Chicago Couple Fights for Wedding Venue Refund After Sudden Closure of Great Central Brewing Company

0

A Chicago couple is facing a challenging situation as they attempt to reclaim their deposit after an unexpected closure of their chosen wedding venue, a brewery located in West Town.

Hailing from Logan Square, the couple reports that Great Central Brewing Company did not inform them of its closure, and their deposit remains unreturned.

ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watch

Grace O’Leary recounted waking up to a friend’s message alerting her that the fall wedding venue she and her fiancé had reserved was no longer in operation.

“Initially, I thought it might just be a temporary closure, perhaps for the day or week,” O’Leary explained. “The idea that a venue would shut down without notifying us and keep our money, leaving us in a difficult position, was hard to believe.”

However, when she attempted to reach out to Great Central Brewing Company…

“Their website is down,” O’Leary said. “Their phone number. You ring, you call it, and it just goes to nowhere. It’s been disconnected.”

Grace and her fiancé Samuel had put down a $5,400 deposit last July for their November wedding.

“It feels so violating to just kind of be, like, robbed of your money, basically, especially for something that’s like, such a big day,” O’Leary said. “And we put so much planning into.”

But now the venue sits empty with a sign on the door saying the “Tap room is closed for a post holiday break.”

It’s unclear when the brewery shut down or for how long the shutdown will last, but according to the Illinois Secretary of State’s website, the West Town brewery was listed as NGS, or “Not Good Standing,” since February.

The Logan Square couple says they are grateful there is time to find a new venue, but not much time.

“I have to laugh, because if I don’t laugh, I’ll start crying, and that’s not going to be helpful,” O’Leary said. “And I know it’ll be okay. We’ll get it worked out. But it is just like, what? Like, who does this?”

ABC7 made attempts Thursday to reach out to the business, the owner and their attorney, but did not receive a response for comment.

On Sunday, Great Central Brewing Company’s CEO responded to ABC7, saying the taproom venue is only closed temporarily. The business owner also said they would still honor the couple’s November wedding event, but they are now in the refund process.

DCLM Daily Manna 4 May 2026 — Principle Of Faith

DCLM Daily Manna 4 May 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Principle Of Faith

TOPIC: Principle Of Faith (DCLM Daily Manna 4 May 2026)

KEY VERSE: His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it” (John 2:5).

TEXT: John 2:1-5 (KJV)

1 And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:

2 And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage.

3 And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.

4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.

5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.

DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:

John Trapp, a 15th-century English writer and theologian, was spot-on when he wrote, “It is the nature of faith to believe God upon His bare word… It will not be, saith sense; it cannot be, saith reason; it both can be and will be, saith faith, for I have a promise for it.” This emphasises the close relationship between God’s word and faith. Faith produces results by acting on God’s promises. This truth was demonstrated at the wedding event at Cana in Galilee. The wedding must have involved people related to Mary, the mother of Jesus, going by her active participation and the presence of Jesus Christ and His disciples. During the ceremony, the organisers ran out of wine. Mary observed the dire situation and approached Jesus for possible intervention, even though Christ was not known to have performed any miracle previously. His retort, “Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come,” was not intended as a disrespect, but was a tender and affectionate expression hinting that He would do something, but at His own and appropriate time. Then followed what may be termed Mary’s Principle of Faith: “Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it,” said Mary to the event’s stewards. When they obeyed, the result was the first public miracle of Christ.

This move of faith remains a major condition for securing divine interventions. If only we can learn to act, like Peter, “at thy word”, and observe whatsoever He says unto us, we will experience the manifestation of God’s power. By His presence and performance at this wedding, Christ also endorsed the institution of marriage. It can rightly be inferred that just as Christ provided wine (a symbol of joy) at a desperate hour, every family that has the presence of Christ will enjoy His blessedness and a good supply of joy.

Mary’s faith was borne out of a deep-seated conviction about the power of every word that proceeds from the Lord. However God’s demand may sound, “the foolishness of God is wiser than men.” Whatever else your feelings or experience indicate, faith always says it can be done, and draws down the miracle.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Divine precepts and promises need no question mark from us.

Bill Rancic’s Stunning Facial Transformation: What You Need to Know

Since the conclusion of “Giuliana & Bill,” Bill Rancic has largely stepped out of the limelight. The gaps between his public appearances have allowed onlookers to notice the evolution in his appearance. Bill, who first captured attention as the inaugural winner of “The Apprentice” in 2004, has undeniably matured over the years. A comparison of photos from 2006 and 2025 clearly illustrates his transformation into a more seasoned version of himself, which is only natural.

Since the finale of “Giuliana & Bill,” we don’t hear much about Bill Rancic anymore. The time that goes between his public appearances give ample opportunities for observers to notice his physical changes. And it just so happens that he has changed quite a bit since he burst onto the scene after becoming the first winner of Donald Trump’s “The Apprentice” in 2004. As the side-by-side pictures from 2006 and 2025 below show, Bill has acquired a more mature look, which is to be expected.

But Bill’s face has also seemingly gotten a bit more round, making his nose slightly more prominent as well. His skin, on the other hand, has remained incredibly smooth for a man in his mid-50s. He looks pretty darn good, but he certainly looks different. We aren’t the only ones to have noticed it. Bill sparked plastic surgery rumors in March 2024, when his wife, Giuliana Rancic, shared a picture on Instagram that had many social media users doing a double take.

Not one to shy away from enhancing his looks, Bill Rancic openly seeks professional treatments to maintain his appearance. In 2023, he candidly shared his openness to trying new skincare techniques. “I’m no beauty expert,” he admitted, “but you shouldn’t fear experimenting. On a recent trip to LA, I indulged in a laser facial, my first real facial at 52!” he confessed to New Beauty. The results left him pleasantly surprised, as he remarked, “I must say, my skin felt incredible!”

In addition to skincare treatments, both Bill and Giuliana Rancic emphasize the importance of sleep for maintaining healthy skin. “We both understand how crucial sleep is,” Giuliana shared. However, Bill’s attention to his appearance extends beyond skincare. He has been transparent about his battle with hair loss and the measures he’s taken to address it. Back in 2012, he even served as a spokesperson for Rogaine, a well-known brand of minoxidil. “I’ve noticed significant improvements in my hair since using the product, but I’ll let you judge for yourself,” he remarked, according to PR Newswire.

Bill Rancic takes care of his skin and hair

Bill Rancic isn’t above seeking out professional help to look his best. In 2023, he revealed that he is willing to do quite a bit to improve the appearance of his skin. “I’m not a beauty guru by any means [but] you can’t be afraid to try stuff. I was in LA recently and I got a laser facial, and I never really had a facial before. I’m 52!” he told New Beauty. He was pretty impressed with the results. “I have got to tell you, my skin felt pretty darn good!” he said.

Besides facials, Bill and Giuliana also prioritize rest to ensure their skin health. “Sleep is definitely something that Bill and I recognize as very important,” she revealed. But skincare isn’t the only aspect of his physical appearance that Bill pays attention to. He has been an open book regarding his hair loss — and the steps he has taken to counteract it. In 2012, he even became an ambassador for Rogaine, one of the brand names for the medication minoxidil. “There’s definitely been a positive change in my hair since I started using the product, so I’ll let you be the judge,” he said (via PR Newswire).

Bill’s experience with hair loss started early on, a factor that contributed to his strong desire to fight it. “One day I was looking at a picture of myself, and I almost didn’t recognize myself,” he said in a 2014 interview. Now in his 50s, he still has a head full of hair, so his approach has seemingly paid off.

Brave Teen Receives Critical Treatment in Fight Against Stage 4 Bone Cancer

0

A courageous teenager from Alabama, grappling with stage 4 bone cancer, successfully journeyed to California for potentially life-saving treatment, thanks to a heartfelt video he shared online. Will Roberts, a 15-year-old, took to his mother’s Facebook page on April 22, making an urgent appeal to connect with lawmakers who could help bring an experimental drug to his small hometown.

In the video, Will explained, “I’ve had osteosarcoma for the past 16 months. It’s a very, very, very deadly and difficult-to-treat bone cancer.” His message conveyed the desperation and urgency of his situation, as he noted, “My chemo treatments aren’t working, and I’ve been battling this for a while now. I’ve tried almost everything available, and we’re nearing the end of the road. I need help.”

Will also described the toll his illness has taken on his family, particularly his mother. She has endured countless sleepless nights, tirelessly researching treatments and reaching out to senators, congressmen, and even the National Institutes of Health in a bid to find a solution.

This poignant appeal not only highlighted the challenges faced by Will and his family but also underscored the power of social media in rallying support and potentially altering the course of his treatment journey.

He also said that his mother, who had been lying in her bed, reading up on treatments as she continued emailing senators and congressmen – and even the National Institutes of Health – was having ‘sleepless, sleepless, sleepless nights.’

Her hard work seemed to pay off, as Will said she ‘found this drug that could possibly save my life if we get it in time.’

The drug, DeltaRex-G is an experimental treatment that shuts down the gene that cancer cells need to grow.

The National Library of Medicine reported that in some patients with advanced cancer, treatment with the drug has led to ‘long-term survivorship’ of 10 years or more.

Will Roberts, 15, snuck onto his mother's Facebook page on April 22 and made a desperate plea for anyone who could help him get in contact with lawmakers who could get him the experimental drug that could save him from bone cancer

‘I want my life, just as anybody does, but even if this won’t work out for me, if this drug can get out in the future, I mean, it’ll help hundreds of other kids,’ Will said.

‘I really want it to get out in time for it to help me, too.’

He then pleaded with anyone who saw the video to share it with either President Donald Trump or Robert F Kennedy, the secretary of Health and Human Services.

The video quickly went viral online, and Alabama businessman Ric Meyers – a member of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort – saw the post and forwarded it to the president, AL.com reports.

Soon, reports came in that Robert F Kennedy Jr saw Will’s message, as did First Lady Melania Trump and Barron Trump.

US Representative Barry Moore then made some calls and US Senators Katie Britt and Tommy Tuberville took action.

The Roberts family also received a call from the President’s spokesperson telling them Donald Trump would like to meet Will.

Then, the family received a call from Dr Mehmet Oz, administrator of The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, who helped them get in contact with Sarcoma Oncology Center in Santa Monica, California.

The Roberts family was ultimately able to get Will an appointment at the California clinic, and his doctors back home cleared him to fly across the country.

They have since arrived in the Golden State, where Will is expected to receive thirty minute treatment sessions three times a week as his family splits their time between Alabama and California.

But the treatments will now cost the family $500,000, and Will’s mother, Brittney, said they have already spent $100,000 after medical expenses and the cost of travel and hotels.

An online fundraiser has now been set up to help the family, noting they would never ask for any donations.

‘This fundraiser is for the Roberts family, a family that would do anything for anyone – the kind of people who show up, lend a hand and open their hearts without ever asking for anything in return,’ it says.

As of Sunday evening, it had raised over $651,400.

Still, Will said he wants to work to ensure pediatric cancer patients receive any drugs that show promise delivered to their hometowns at a reasonable price.

‘I may not survive bone cancer. It might be too late,’ Will told AL.com.

‘But if I can help other children have future access to proper cancer drugs without flying all over the world to get them, I’ve done my job.’

Peter Obi Urges Tinubu Government to Let NDC Develop Without Interference

Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate, has urged President Bola Tinubu’s administration to respect the autonomy of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) and refrain from meddling in its internal affairs.

Obi made this appeal in Abuja on Sunday during an event where he welcomed new members into the party, following his official induction.

He emphasized the importance of allowing party members the liberty to organize and develop the NDC without interference from the government.

In his address, Obi stated, “We aim to alleviate poverty and build a nation where anyone, regardless of background, can achieve success without needing influential connections.”

“We want to pull people out of poverty because we want to build a country where a child of no body can become somebody without knowing anybody.

“We are using this occasion to plead with the government of today, you know that I contest election in LP, Kwankwaso contested election in a different party…. the leader has already told us their destination and we are building with them. Respect our democracy, please don’t come here.

“We are pleading with you, don’t come here, we are pleading with you that we want to have peace, we want to build the party.

“We don’t want cases, we are pleading with the judiciary to end cases in parties.

“Please let there be no litigation. Party members, please don’t go to court. We want to build a party, we are not lawyers.”

4 At-Home Exercises to Tighten Belly Overhang Faster Than Gym Workouts for Those Over 60

Revitalize your core and combat belly fat by incorporating these effective daily exercises into your fitness regimen.

Targeting a stubborn waistline is a widespread aspiration, especially as age-related hormonal and metabolic changes often lead to weight gain in unwelcome areas. Establishing a reliable at-home workout routine fosters consistency and accountability, which are crucial for success. We consulted Michael D. Pope, an Outreach Athletic Trainer at Houston Methodist Baytown Hospital, for insights into four pivotal exercises that could accelerate your journey to shedding belly fat faster than typical gym workouts for those over 60. Pope holds a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from East Texas Baptist University and has been a Tactical Strength & Conditioning Facilitator (TSAC-F) since 2021.

“It’s a common misconception that only inactive individuals or those not losing weight have a belly overhang, also known as the ‘belly apron,’” Pope explains. “Rapid weight loss and decreased collagen production are primary contributors. As we age, collagen—which maintains skin strength and elasticity—diminishes, leading to sagging and thinner skin, often resulting in a belly overhang in older adults.”

These exercises are designed to bolster your deep core and glute muscles, enhancing balance and alleviating lower back discomfort.

The exercises below can strengthen your deep core and gluteal muscles, helping to improve balance while reducing lower back pain.

Pelvic Tilt

“This exercise assists in postural stabilization by strengthening deep core muscles as well as gluteal muscles. These corrections will help improve balance and decrease low back pain,” Pope explains.

  1. Begin by lying flat on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the mat.
  2. Activate your core and rotate your hips by driving your belly in toward your spine.
  3. Hold for 10 seconds.
  4. Slowly release.

Supine March

  1. Begin lying flat on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the mat.
  2. Activate your core.
  3. Lift one foot a few inches off the floor, bringing that knee close to your chest.
  4. Slowly lower.
  5. Repeat on the other side.

Glute Bridge

  1. Begin by lying flat on your back with bent knees and feet hip-width apart on the mattress, arms at your sides with palms pressing into the surface.
  2. Press through your heels to lift your hips until your body forms a straight line from head to heels.
  3. Squeeze your buttocks, holding at the top for 5 seconds.
  4. Lower your hips back to the start position.

Alternating Superman

  1. Lie with your face down with your arms reaching overhead.
  2. Arch upward, raising your right arm and left leg at the same time.
  3. Return to the start position.
  4. Continue to alternate sides.

Washington Post Editorial Critiques Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson’s Policies

0

In a critical editorial on Friday, The Washington Post editorial board took aim at Seattle’s socialist Mayor Katie Wilson for her dismissive remarks concerning the exodus of affluent residents and the increasing dissatisfaction among taxpayers due to rising rates.

“Just nine days after securing victory in Seattle’s November mayoral election, Katie Wilson stood alongside striking Starbucks baristas, vowing to avoid the coffee giant until their union demands were met,” the board noted.

“The socialist mayor might have to hold off on her coffee cravings a bit longer,” the editorial stated in a biting article entitled “Seattle’s mayor waves goodbye to prosperity.”

The piece underscored the evolving business environment, citing recent closures of Starbucks locations and the company’s decision to expand significantly in Nashville, Tennessee. This strategic move will result in the relocation of 2,000 jobs from the Pacific Northwest.

The editorial board also highlighted the impact of Washington Governor Bob Ferguson’s newly implemented “millionaire’s tax,” which enforces a 9.9% levy on annual incomes over $1 million.

“With the tax on the horizon, former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz announced that he and his wife are fleeing Seattle for Miami. Florida has no state income tax,” the board noted.

Wilson, a longtime progressive activist and co-founder of the Transit Riders Union, has faced significant heat for her past support of radical policies.

During her activist career, she notably championed a “Solidarity Budget” that sought to slash the Seattle Police Department’s funding by 50%.

The traditionally liberal newspaper did not pull its punches, describing Wilson as “arrogant” for her handling of the city’s economic concerns.

“Speaking recently at a Seattle University event, the mayor brushed off claims that taxpayers respond poorly to higher taxes. ‘I think the claims that millionaires are going to leave our state are, like, super overblown,’ Wilson said.

“‘And if — the ones that leave, like, bye,’” the editorial recounted, referencing a video of Wilson waving to the crowd.

“Her arrogance is increasingly typical of the state’s political elites,” the paper added.

The board warned that industry leaders are sharing these concerns.

In the piece, the board cited Microsoft President Brad Smith, who previously admitted he is “probably more worried right now about the business climate in Washington than at any point over the last 30 years.”

The controversial remarks took place during a “Governing Through a Progressive Lens” forum held at Seattle University’s Pigott Auditorium on April 14, 2026.

Appearing alongside King County Executive Girmay Zahilay, Wilson used the event — part of the university’s “Conversations” series — to double down on her socialist platform and the state’s recently enacted 9.9% tax on high earners.

While moderators and business leaders questioned whether the aggressive tax climate would hollow out the city’s revenue base, Wilson’s dismissive wave and “bye” comment have since become a viral flashpoint, fueling a growing debate over whether the city’s new leadership is intentionally purging its most successful residents in favor of ideological purity.

Justice for Kumanjayi: Family Finds Relief as Charges Are Filed, Urges Against Political Agendas

This content may be unsettling for certain audiences.

The family of a five-year-old girl, allegedly murdered in Central Australia, has expressed a sense of relief following the police’s decision to charge a suspect. They have also appealed to the public to refrain from politicizing the tragic event.

“The family of Kumanjayi Little Baby, whom we consider our queen, feels relieved now that charges have been filed and the accused will stand trial,” stated Robin Japanangka Granites, a Warlpiri Elder and family spokesperson, to NITV News on Sunday.

Granites, who regards himself as the child’s grandfather, emphasized, “It is essential now to allow the justice system to carry out its process.”

Police announced earlier on Sunday that they had charged 47-year-old Jefferson Lewis with the murder of Kumanjayi Little Baby, following his arrest earlier this week.

Since being detained on Thursday, Lewis has been charged with one count of murder and two other charges that cannot be reported due to legal restrictions. He is expected to appear in Darwin Local Court on Tuesday.

The body of Kumanjayi Little Baby was discovered at around midday on Thursday by police, approximately 5km from where she had disappeared days before.

Granites also reiterated previous calls for Alice Springs to remain calm and asked that all people come together “in respecting this time of Sorry Business and mourning”.

“I also ask all our politicians, leaders to be respectful of this sorry time,” he said.

“We too need to work together on this, on many issues facing our people and communities here in Central Australia, but our little baby’s passing must not become a politician issue or an argument.”

Northern Territory Opposition legal affairs spokesperson Chansey Paech also said it was important to focus on the human dimension of the tragedy.

“It’s really important with all of the national headlines and stories and conversations that we don’t lose sight of what really, truly matters here, and that is the heartbreaking loss of Kumanjayi Little Baby,” he told NITV News on Sunday.

“To see that those charges have been laid, we’re able now to move to the next process of letting the justice system begin its job … and not losing focus on the role of supporting and helping families through this time of incredible sadness,” he added.

Additional arrests over Alice Springs riot

Police also announced on Sunday that there had been additional arrests relating to “riotous behaviour” around the Alice Springs hospital on Thursday, where locals gathered after news emerged that Lewis was being treated there following his arrest.

Police say the events resulted in over $180,000 in damages and losses.

Five people have now been arrested, police said on Sunday morning, after a service station and supermarket were damaged and burgled.

“Following a review into CCTV and media outlet footage, five people aged 18, 26, 34, 46 and 49 have all been arrested and remain in custody with charges expected to follow,” local police said in a statement.

“Further offenders have been identified, and multiple arrests are expected to be made in coming days.”

Police Reveal Shocking Statement from Suspect: ‘No Need to Worry’ About Deceased Woman, Witness Claims

Background: The Henry County Sheriff”s Office in Clinton, Mo. (Google Maps). Insets (left to right): Billy Tabor, Janice Cook, and Colby Eisel (Henry County Sheriff’s Office).

Authorities have arrested two men in connection with the disappearance and death of a Missouri woman, whose body was recently discovered. Billy Tabor, 70, and Colby Eisel, 39, face charges related to the case. Tabor has been charged with first-degree murder and both men have been charged with abandonment of a corpse following the death of 43-year-old Janice Cook, according to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.

Cook was reported missing on April 9 after she stopped engaging with her social media accounts on March 27. A probable cause statement reveals that a witness saw Cook on Tabor’s property in the early hours of March 28, lying on the ground while Tabor appeared agitated, pacing back and forth.

On the same day, Cook’s abandoned vehicle was discovered, and her dog was found approximately a mile away from the car. Friends and family expressed concern, noting that Cook would never willingly leave her dog behind. Coupled with her abrupt silence on social media, these signs heightened worries about her well-being.

Police investigations into Cook’s phone records indicated her last known location was in Windsor, Missouri, and the final person she contacted was Tabor, a resident of the area. When questioned by authorities, Tabor acknowledged that Cook had visited his home briefly in the early morning of March 28. He claimed she left after a few hours, although he was unable to specify the exact time of her departure.

According to the probable cause statement, police investigated Cook’s phone records and found that her last known location was in Windsor, Missouri. The last person she had contacted was Tabor, who lived in Windsor. Police went to Tabor’s residence and questioned him about Cook. He said he knew the missing woman and confirmed that she had been at his residence for a short time during the early morning hours of March 28. Tabor told police that she left after a “couple of hours,” but could not provide an exact time.

As police investigated further, they heard that Tabor had allegedly told an unnamed woman that she “would not have to worry about J.J. anymore,” referring to Cook by her nickname. When he was asked if he killed Cook, Tabor allegedly “laughed and walked away without providing a response.”

On April 30, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office received information from a neighboring county that a witness was also at Tabor’s home on the night Cook allegedly went missing. The witness told police that he showed up at Tabor’s residence at 2 a.m. on March 28 and saw Tabor “pacing back and forth in an agitated state.” He then saw Cook lying on the ground “and believed her to be deceased.”

According to the probable cause statement, the witness said Tabor got ropes and tied them to Cook. He then allegedly tied the other end of the ropes to a Honda CR-V, which he used to drag Cook’s body farther down the property. Tabor allegedly yelled to the witness to come down to where he was to help him “dig a grave.” The two men allegedly dug a large hole, wrapped Cook’s body in black fabric, and buried her in the hole.

The witness told police that Tabor allegedly “threatened to shoot him” if he did not move Cook’s vehicle along with her belongings to Johnson County. After Tabor picked the witness up and brought him back to his home, the witness said he saw a black revolver on the table. According to the probable cause statement, Tabor made comments to the witness indicating that he had been frustrated with Cook.

Police questioned Tabor again on Friday, and he invoked his right to counsel. He was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and abandonment of a corpse.

The witness later brought police back to the property to show them where he and Tabor allegedly buried Cook’s body. The Henry County Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post that human remains were recovered, and they believed they belonged to Cook. They stated that they were still waiting for confirmation through forensic testing but had made contact with Cook’s family.

The probable cause statement was redacted and did not include the name of the witness who led police to Cook’s remains. On Friday, Eisel was charged with abandonment of a corpse.

Both Tabor and Eisel are being held at the Henry County Jail. Tabor is being held without bond and is scheduled for a bond hearing on May 5. Eisel is being held on $250,000 cash-only bond. His next court date was not available.
