Yearning for Home: A Heartfelt Desire for Comfort and Belonging

0

During the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday evening, chaos unfolded at the Washington Hilton Hotel as gunfire erupted, leading to the swift evacuation of Erika Kirk. The Turning Point USA CEO, visibly shaken, expressed her distress saying, “I just want to go home,” as she was hurriedly guided out in the aftermath of the incident.

Erika Kirk, widow of the late conservative figure Charlie Kirk, was captured on video, tearfully repeating her desire to return home. This emotional moment occurred after Cole Allen, the suspected shooter, breached a security checkpoint at the hotel armed with a shotgun, handgun, and several knives, causing alarm at the event held in the ballroom.

Watch Below:

The shooting incident transpired roughly 20 minutes after President Donald Trump made his arrival at the dinner. This shocking event follows the murder of Erika’s husband, who was tragically killed during a speaking engagement at Utah Valley University on September 10, over seven months ago.

In response to the threat, President Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and a host of senior White House officials were rapidly evacuated from the prestigious gathering as the alleged assailant began firing.

President Trump, first lady Melania Trump, and Vice President JD Vance, among a slew of other senior White House officials, were urgently evacuated from the high-profile event after the alleged gunman opened fire.

Other alarmed guests — including D.C. reporters — were seen ducking under tables after the shooting erupted, in likely anticipation of more to come.

As – News reported, the 31-year-old suspected shooter wrote a manifesto and attended a No King’s protest, according to a senior Trump administration official.

Trump addressed the public after the White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting, saying the proposed White House ballroom would be drone- and bulletproof and a much more secure venue for important events, such as the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche told NBC News that it appears Allen traveled from Los Angeles to Chicago, then to Washington, DC, via train and checked into the Hilton a day or two before the event.

Unveiling Maul’s Dark Past: The Shadow Lord’s Journey from Sith to Tragedy

0

Warning: Spoilers Ahead for “Star Wars: Maul — Shadow Lord” Season 1, Episode 8 — “The Creeping Fear”

In a thrilling turn of events, the Empire steps up its game by dispatching the formidable Inquisitors to hunt down Maul (portrayed by Sam Witwer). Although Maul narrowly escapes their clutches in “Star Wars: Maul — Shadow Lord” Season 1, Episode 8, titled “The Creeping Fear,” the encounter leaves him deeply unsettled. This brush with danger forces Maul to confront the haunting specters of his past.

This episode delves into Maul’s intricate history through a series of visions and flashbacks. One of his earliest memories revisits the moment his brother Savage Opress attempted to prevent Sheev Palpatine from taking the young Maul away from Dathomir. Following this, Maul recalls his grueling training under Palpatine’s tutelage, which was far from ordinary sparring; instead, it involved enduring the agony of Palpatine’s Force lightning.

Maul’s trip down memory lane brings him face-to-face with the trauma of Obi-Wan Kenobi severing him in two during “Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace.” The memories grow even more harrowing as he recalls a brief alliance with Opress, cut short by Palpatine’s brutal killing of his brother. These flashbacks culminate in an emotional breakdown for Maul, yet they also reignite his vengeful spirit, prompting him to rise and vow retribution.

It’s important to note that Maul is far from an innocent caught in the crossfire between Jedi and Sith. In the “Star Wars” universe, he’s responsible for his own share of dark deeds. As the series progresses, Maul is resolute in continuing his reign of terror by rebuilding his criminal empire in “Star Wars: Maul — Shadow Lord.”

Star Wars: Maul — Shadow Lord establishes the former Sith as a tragic character

Make no mistake about it, Maul isn’t exactly an innocent bystander who was caught up in the battle between Jedi and Sith in the “Star Wars” Universe. He’s also committed his fair share of atrocities, and he continues to do so as he rebuilds his criminal empire in “Star Wars: Maul — Shadow Lord.”

What the animated series does, however, is showcase how Palpatine corrupts Maul at a young age, effectively turning him into a child soldier. By isolating him from his family and teaching him the ways of the dark side, Palpatine poisons his mind and makes him more malleable to his suggestions. Yet when Maul falls in battle to Obi-Wan Kenobi, Palpatine discards his former apprentice. When Palpatine meets him again, it’s to slay his brother, destroying any remaining connection that Maul may have to his family.

While all of these events have been covered in previous series, piecing it all together and showcasing Maul’s reaction adds another dimension to his character. He experiences tragedy from an early age, making that all he knows his entire life. Knowing what we do about Maul’s final fate makes this even more tragic, since he’s never afforded a chance at a normal life. He’s doomed from the start. With such depth to the storytelling like this, no wonder “Star Wars” fans are raving about “Maul.”

Pope Leo Encourages Africans to Contribute Locally Amid Rising Migration Trends

0

Pope Leo XIV, speaking last Friday, delivered a poignant message to African youth, urging them to focus on enhancing their home countries instead of seeking opportunities abroad. This call to action was part of his address to university students at the Catholic University of Central Africa in Yaoundé, the capital city of Cameroon, during his 11-day apostolic visit to the continent.

The pontiff addressed the students by acknowledging the allure of migration, which often tempts young people with the promise of a brighter future elsewhere. “In the face of the understandable tendency to migrate — which may lead one to believe that elsewhere a better future may be more easily found — I invite you, first and foremost, to respond with an ardent desire to serve your country and to apply the knowledge you are acquiring here to the benefit of your fellow citizens,” he emphasized.

As Africa continues to grapple with increasing displacement driven by economic and political challenges, Pope Leo XIV highlighted the critical role of young people in shaping their nations’ futures. He called on the rising generations to commit themselves to societal development, addressing their countries’ needs and tackling systemic issues at home.

The Pope’s message was delivered against the backdrop of his visit to Saint Joseph’s Cathedral in Bamenda, where he engaged with the local community as part of his broader mission across Africa. His remarks underscored the importance of nurturing a sense of responsibility and dedication among African youth to foster sustainable progress within their own borders.

“Africa, indeed, must be freed from the scourge of corruption. For young people, this awareness must take root from their years of formation,” he said.

“These are the witnesses of wisdom and justice, of which the African continent needs.”

He added that through education and spiritual formation, “you learn to become builders of the future of your respective countries and of a world that is more just and humane.”

According to the World Migration Report, most of Africa’s displacement occurs internally within the continent, with 21 million Africans recorded as living in another African country in 2020.

Overseas African migration has also steadily increased, with figures more than doubling between 1990 and 2020.

In 2020, roughly 11 million Africans reportedly migrated to Europe, 5 million to Asia and 3 million to Northern America.

The causes of displacement are largely attributed to political conflict, corruption, violence and economic hardship, including widespread poverty.

These factors are particularly pronounced in countries such as Somalia, one of Africa’s largest sources of refugees; Nigeria, which is riddled with natural disasters and economic pressures; and Sudan’s surrounding areas, where civil war, political instability and food insecurity have driven large-scale displacement.

The Pope’s remarks come just days after President Donald Trump criticized Leo on Truth Social, calling him “weak on crime, and terrible for foreign policy.”

The backlash followed the pontiff’s criticism of the U.S.-Israeli war in Iran and his appeal for a return to peace.

Tensions between the two boiled over several days before the Pope said last Saturday that it was “not in my interest at all” to debate the president.

Leo has insisted that his position is focused on bridging divides among nations and promoting peace and reconciliation.

Obama’s Controversial Stance: Why He Overlooked the Gunman’s Manifesto in Motive Discussion

0

On Sunday, former President Barack Obama faced criticism for his remarks on the motives behind the shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, despite the existence of a manifesto allegedly linked to the suspect. The manifesto, which was first reported by the New York Post, outlines the intentions of Cole Tomas Allen, the 31-year-old alleged gunman. His focus, as stated in the document, was on targeting members of the Trump administration during the exclusive event.

The manifesto, said to be penned by Allen, expresses a vehement rejection of passivity in the face of wrongdoing. “Turning the other cheek is for when you yourself are oppressed,” it reportedly declares, distancing Allen from personal victimhood. He mentions, “I’m not the person raped in a detention camp. I’m not the fisherman executed without trial,” highlighting various injustices he perceives.

Further, the document continues with a critique of inaction against oppression, portraying it as complicity. “Turning the other cheek when *someone else* is oppressed is not Christian behavior; it is complicity in the oppressor’s crimes,” he writes, positioning himself as a defender of those he believes are victimized by the administration.

In a particularly striking section, Allen is said to have written, “I am no longer willing to permit a pedophile, rapist, and traitor to coat my hands with his crimes.” This declaration underscores his alleged motivation for targeting officials, reflecting a personal moral stance against individuals he accuses of severe misconduct.

In one passage, Allen allegedly wrote: ‘I am no longer willing to permit a pedophile, rapist, and traitor to coat my hands with his crimes.’

But several hours after the missive, Obama claimed ‘details about the motives’ were still unclear.

‘Although we don’t yet have the details about the motives behind last night’s shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, it’s incumbent upon us all to reject the idea that violence has any place in our democracy,’ he posted on X Sunday evening.

‘It’s also a sobering reminder of the courage and the sacrifice that US Secret Service Agents show every day. I’m grateful to them – and thankful that the agent who was shot is going to be OK.’

The former commander-in-chief quickly received some backlash for the post.

‘There is no ambiguity. It was a politically-motivated attack driven by anti-Trump and anti-Christian bile. It’s wrong to downplay or obscure the obvious motive,’ former Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin posted.

EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin also hit out at the former president.

‘Let’s not pretend to be this clueless about motive,’ he wrote.

‘The attempted assassin put out an anti-Trump manifesto about wanting to kill Trump Admin officials, minutes before trying to storm a ballroom filled with the President, VP, Cabinet and many others from his Admin.’

Utah Senator Mike Lee added: ‘It was politically motivated. He made that pretty clear.’

Even an account belonging to the Republican National Committee blasted Obama for his remark.

‘Law enforcement officers confirmed this radicalized Leftist was targeting President Trump and his administration last night,’ RNC Research wrote. ‘Why are you lying?’

After reading the missive, President Donald Trump suggested on Sunday that Democrats helped radicalize far-left agitators like Allen.

He also cited the Internet as having ‘radicalized some people’ and ‘made some people mentally sick,’ and argued that the far-left is spreading violent rhetoric.

‘I do think that the hate speech of the Democrats much more so is very dangerous,’ Trump told CBS’ Norah O’Donnell in an interview for ’60 Minutes.’

‘I really think it’s very dangerous for the country.’

President Donald Trump and Melania took to the stage with other members of his cabinet just moments before shots rang out and chaos unfolded.

One Secret Service agent was harmed when he was struck in his bulletproof vest, and was expected to recover.

An ensuing investigation revealed Allen had been staying at the Hilton hotel where the event was taking place in the lead up to the gala, and his family has said he would regularly visit a shooting range to train with his guns.

He was also said to be armed with two guns and knives when he allegedly sprinted past a security checkpoint and attempted to reach the doors to the ballroom where the president was gathered along with his most senior cabinet members and thousands of journalists.

Trump said the shooter appeared to be like a ‘blur’ in surveillance footage showing him racing through the hotel hallway on Saturday night, joking that the ‘NFL should sign him up.’

‘But it was amazing because as soon as they [law enforcement] saw that, you could see them draw their guns. They were so professional, aimed their guns, and then they took him down immediately,’ Trump told O’Donnell.

The suspect is now expected to be arraigned Monday on two counts of wielding a firearm during a crime of violence and one count of assault on a federal officer using a dangerous weapon.

Washington County Commissioner Unveils Strategic Investments in Agriculture Sector

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Tenn. – In a bid to underscore the significance of agriculture within the community, Washington County Commissioner Jodi Jones led a bus tour across the county, focusing on two major agricultural initiatives.

As the representative for Washington County’s District 11, Commissioner Jodi Jones is in her second term and organized this tour to showcase a proposed agriculture learning center and a newly established local meat processing facility. Alongside these sites, the tour also included a visit to a residential farm, all to emphasize the critical role of agriculture in the region.

“Our farms are a cherished part of our community,” Jones remarked. “But sadly, they are gradually disappearing.”

To provide deeper insights, Jones enlisted Dana Ensor, a tenth-generation farmer from Washington County, to lead the tour attendees and discuss the ongoing challenges faced by local agriculture. Speaking to News Channel 11, Ensor highlighted that while the county boasted 133,000 acres of farmland in 2002, that number is projected to shrink to 97,000 acres by 2026, reflecting a 27% reduction.

“Currently, there’s no land use plan in place for open spaces or agricultural preservation in the county,” Ensor explained. “We need to strategize on how to slow these changes while ensuring that farmers can retire comfortably and secure their financial futures. That’s why collaborations with Commissioner Jodi Jones and others are crucial.”

The two investments include the planned Agriculture Learning Center at Jonesborough Elementary School and the new Appalachian Producers Cooperative meat facility. The planned Agriculture Learning Center will include classrooms, a greenhouse and a culinary lab.

“We intend to have a setting there where students learn about farming and gardening,” Jones said.

“Kids not only will grow and learn how to grow, but they will also learn how to cook healthy foods while they’re there,” Ensor said. “And the goal is to raise their awareness of what it takes to grow food. And then, how do you cook food that’s not coming out of a package.”

The Appalachian Producers Cooperative Meat Facility aims to keep processing local for farmers.

“The reason this is significant is that until this point, if people didn’t sell off the farm, it went to the Midwest to be grain-fed and then goes into the system,” Ensor said. “So the carbon footprint is really small now that the food can stay here and people can produce this and take it back to their farm and actually sell it.”

Jones said the meat processing facility is a $2 million investment, while the learning center is estimated at $700,000. The county is still working to secure funding for the learning center.

Cheryl Hines Recounts Dramatic Exit from White House Correspondents’ Dinner Amid Gunfire Incident

0

Cheryl Hines recently shared the harrowing experience she and her husband, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., endured when they were swiftly evacuated from the White House Correspondents’ Dinner due to the sound of gunfire.

“I just returned from the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, and it was an intense moment,” Hines recounted on her Instagram Stories.

She detailed the incident, saying, “We were there when we suddenly heard gunshots. Everyone ducked under the tables, not knowing what was happening. Bobby’s security team quickly surrounded us, and they had to carry me over chairs because I was in heels and wearing a gown.” She continued, “They led us through back routes until we reached our car and made our exit.”

Hines later took to social media again to reassure her concerned followers.

“Thank you to everyone checking in on us—we’re safe and sound,” she posted. “Now, I’m in my pajamas, watching the news unfold just like the rest of you. Please, everyone, stay safe.”

Chaos broke out at the event Saturday night when suspected gunman Cole Allen reportedly stormed a security checkpoint and opened fire.

President Donald Trump was immediately rushed from the ballroom at the Washington Hilton Hotel. Video from inside the event showed attendees taking cover under tables as panic spread through the room.

The moment carried additional weight for several attendees whose lives had already been shaped by political violence, including Trump, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., House Majority Leader Steve Scalise and TPUSA CEO Erika Kirk.

“The people that make the biggest impact, they’re the ones that [shooters] go after,” Trump said late on Saturday evening from a press conference at the White House. “They don’t go after the ones that don’t do much because they like it that way.”

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the nephew of President John F. Kennedy, was swiftly escorted out of the room on Saturday, an HHS official told Fox News Digital. His family history is closely tied to two tragic assassinations.

Trump hailed law enforcement during his press conference from the White House late on Saturday, saying the situation was “incredibly acted upon by Secret Service and law enforcement.”

“[The suspect] had a long way to go. That was really a first line of defense. And they got him. And they really, you know, they acted incredibly,” he continued.

The suspected gunman, identified as a 31-year-old Cole Allen of California, was taken into custody.

Jo-Ellen Unveils Evidence of Brian’s Ongoing Affair Amid Rulla’s Marriage Struggles

On the latest episode of The Real Housewives of Rhode Island, tensions and rumors reach a boiling point. Jo-Ellen is determined to expose the truth about Rulla’s husband’s infidelity, refusing to let the issue rest. Meanwhile, Kelsey’s frustration with Rosie is intensifying, adding another layer of drama. The episode’s central theme is support, but it remains to be seen whether the women will rise to the occasion when it’s truly needed.

RHORI Recap: Kelsey Wonders Why Rosie Does Not Support Her on Social Media and Believes Rosie Feels Threatened by Her; Plus, Jo-Ellen Has Real Time Proof that Rulla's Husband is Still Having an Affair, but Rulla Denies This, Claiming it to Be AI Generated Texts While Brian Suddenly Leaves for an Alleged Family Emergency and Returns Without His Wedding Ring

Alicia is thrilled to reunite with Jo-Ellen, who is grieving the loss of her 100-year-old grandfather. Jo-Ellen shared a close bond with him, and coincidentally, he was also Alicia’s neighbor, highlighting the interconnectedness of their lives. As Liz arrives, she presents Jo-Ellen with an extravagant floral arrangement, making Alicia’s homemade bouquet seem modest in comparison.

Jo-Ellen, absent from recent events due to a work commitment, gets a rundown from Liz about the beach confrontation with Rosie. Alicia confesses she regrets calling Rosie a derogatory term, feeling that Rosie manipulated her words and attempted to drive a wedge between her and Liz. Despite her anger, Alicia quickly forgives Rosie for stirring the pot.

Liz advises Jo-Ellen that confronting Rulla now might be too harsh, suggesting she ease up. It’s apparent that Rulla prefers to remain in the dark about her husband’s activities. Surprisingly, Jo-Ellen expresses sympathy for Rulla, revealing an unexpected empathy for her predicament.

Liz points out that attacking Rulla right now is like going for the low-lying fruit, so maybe Jo-Ellen should back off a bit. Liz realizes that Rulla does not want to know what is going on with her husband and would prefer to just be ignorant. Jo-Ellen goes as far as saying she feels bad for Rulla and that she is, shockingly, empathetic towards her situation.

Kelsey has Ashley over to her mansion…maybe the next Bachelor mansion?? We learn that Kelsey’s boyfriend has kids who are three years younger than her (awkward).  We also learn that Kelsey has a full-blown salon in her home and that she loves doing hair and makeup.  In fact, IF she would ever have to work again should she leave her current boyfriend, she would absolutely be a hairdresser.  Until then, she will do friend’s hair for a social media shout out.

However, when friends do not tag her services, Kelsey gets activated.  She fills Ashley in on how she can’t seem to understand Rosie, Ashley’s clinger friend. Kelsey did her hair once and Rosie did not even post a thank you on social media.  Ashley understands the importance of supporting one another and realizes that an influencer can help out any person tagged.

Kelsey believes that Rosie feels threatened by her and feels unsupported by Rosie. To prove she gets it, Ashley posts her fresh cut right away to give her buddy props.  Kelsey’s coming for Rosie…

Rosie’s friends, Jack and Anthony, are hosting a birthday party on a boat.  They specifically asked Rosie to get the “girls and the gays” together to celebrate.  The ladies roll up to the dock and when Rulla arrives, Jo-Ellen is not sure what will happen.  They left off on bad terms, but Jo-Ellen is not trying to rehash things with Rulla on the boat. Rulla also states that if Jo-Ellen starts with her, she’s going right in the water, so there’s that.

Rosie talks with Ashley and Dolores about how she feels unsupported and never good enough for the group.  Kelsey jumps into the conversation and asks Rosie outright why she never posted anything about doing her hair. Kelsey got zero credit and Rosie did not show support. Rosie feels like Kelsey is trying to find reasons to have a problem with her and claims it is not her job to take a picture of the back of her head. Kelsey believes that it is calculated of Rosie to purposely not support her. According to Rosie, Kelsey uses people for “everything” and when Kelsey walks away, Rosie starts crying.

LOLing at Alicia trying to start a game whilst this conversation is going on, but she doesn’t know where to begin. “I don’t know games, what’s a game?”

Liz and her husband, Gerry, are prepping to say goodbye to the Gypsea.  The sport fishing chapter is coming to a close, but the memories will stay with them forever…like the time Gerry fished against Michael Jordan, and won.  Liz calls Gerry out for leaving her to sport fish and she gets teary talking about the resentment she had every time he left her, but now the next chapter will bring a grandchild and more time with family.

Jo-Ellen meets with Rulla to clear the air, without the husbands, to see where they can go from here. Rulla is ready to put a stop to Jo-Ellen spreading her business. Jo-Ellen explains she has resentment towards Brian because the affair is still going on.  Jo-Ellen knows the mistress because their children go to daycare together and she has texts from this woman.  Rulla believes that these texts are AI fakes and Brian has told Rulla that this lady is “not so stable.”

According to Jo-Ellen, she read all of the mistresses’ messages, but Rulla has no time for this.

Rulla explains that she has a GPS tracker on Brian.  Rulla claims that Brian is at the gym every morning to which Jo-Ellen retorts,  “Does Brian look like he goes to the gym?!” Rulla refuses to listen to Jo-Ellen’s “truth,” but Jo-Ellen is desperately trying to prove the reality to Rulla. Rulla is looking for real proof, not fabricated evidence, and she believes that Jo-Ellen is being “duped by the homewrecker.”

Ashley is on her influencer cruise and now Rosie has to go to polo without her bestie.  Rosie is taking the invitation from Alicia and running with it.  Alicia sets up Billy’s family-owned pizza place for a pre-polo-party. Kelsey rolls up with Bill (her other “boyfriend”), who is very eager to show his relationship with Kelsey in public.

Kelsey is busy pretending that Rosie does not exist when Rulla arrives with Brian acting as a “united front.” However, their time is cut short because something happens with Brian’s mom and they have to get her to the hospital. According to Brian, she has cold hands and feet.  They leave swiftly and 40 minutes later, Liz FaceTimes Rulla for updates. Rulla explains that Brian is with his parents (why is she not there?), but as soon as they hang up, Jo-Ellen gasps over a text.

One of Jo-Ellen’s friends is actually friends with Brian’s mistress.  Evidently, this whole “my mom has to go to the hospital” story line is bogus and Brian used it to get out of filming and to see his girlfriend.  Liz does not believe this could actually be true, but let’s discuss Brian’s reaction to finding out his mom needed to go to the hospital…

They make it to the polo match and the rest of the husbands join their wives. Rosie talks about her soon-to-be 8,000 square foot home with Jo-Ellen.  It seems like Rosie is always exaggerating and Kelsey knows that at the end of the day, Rosie is not building a home as big as she says.

Rulla and Brian shockingly make their return to the polo match, but this time, Brian is not wearing his wedding ring.  He was, however, wearing it before they left for the alleged hospital stint.  Curious??

Love that Jo-Ellen has the mistress’s notifications on so she won’t miss a beat.  She is taking her Nancy Drew job seriously and realizes that the girlfriend JUST posted a picture from Brian’s interior of his car in REAL TIME.  Jo-Ellen then walks us through the timeline of scandal and I gotta tell you, her attention to detail is truly something else.

When Liz finds out what Jo-Ellen knows, she decides that they need to let Rulla know what is going on. Brian is chatting with Jo-Ellen’s husband about “getting stuck in the middle of something you don’t want to get stuck in” while scrolling on his phone and Liz asks him if he is browsing Instagram.

He knows what is coming next and he immediately evacuates, refusing to get this on camera.  As he tries to get his mic off, Brian tells Jo-Ellen to stop perpetuating this stuff, but Jo-Ellen knows it’s all current proof.

Jo-Ellen repeats to Rulla that Brian’s affair is not done and if she wants proof, she can help her.  An agitated Brian tells Jo-Ellen it’s none of her business and admits that the mistress called him yesterday, but he hasn’t spoken to her since…”for a long time.” What does that even mean?

Liz believes that there are moments when you have to admit defeat and sees that Brian is not telling the truth.  He tells the group,  “If I haven’t left, I’m obviously not going to leave.” Alicia realizes that Rulla is a lot like her- they always forgive people. Rulla feels like Jo-Ellen is stirring the pot because she is communicating with these people involved in Rulla’s life, but Jo-Ellen realizes that Brian is ok with the mistress posting because he wants Rulla to leave him.  Messy, messy.

Gainesville Resident Faces Serious Charges in Assault Case

0

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Authorities have taken Jose Daniel Cediel Marin, 63, into custody following allegations of sexual battery and strangulation.

According to a report by the Gainesville Police Department, the victim recounted feeling uneasy after Cediel Marin cast a suggestive look her way while at his residence. Feeling uncomfortable, she reached out to her sister by phone. Despite her discomfort, Cediel Marin allegedly approached her and initiated a kiss, which she did not reciprocate, citing his marital status as her reason.

The victim further stated that Cediel Marin then coerced her into a bedroom, where he sexually assaulted and strangled her. Despite her cries for him to cease, he allegedly continued and assaulted her a second time. After the incident, Cediel Marin reportedly prepared for work, while the victim contacted her sister, who advised her to notify the police. Officers arrived just as Cediel Marin was about to leave for his job.

The police noted visible redness around the victim’s neck and collarbone. She reportedly confirmed to the officer that she never consented to engage in any sexual activity with Cediel Marin.

Post Miranda, Cediel Marin reportedly said the victim had been upset about a project that wasn’t working out, and he had offered to help her with it when he got home from work. He said the victim kissed him first, and he declined her advances and then got ready for work. He denied ever having sex with, kissing, or hugging the victim in any way. He said he does not need to have sex with the victim because he is married.

Cediel Marin, who is from Colombia but is a United States citizen, has been charged with sexual battery and battery by strangulation. He has no local criminal history, and Judge Bo Bayer ordered him held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s Office to hold him without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Two Republican Presidents Targeted in Assassination Attempts: A Look at Their Lasting Influence

0

President Donald Trump appeared poised and remarkably composed as he addressed questions from the press following the third assassination attempt targeting him in less than two years.

Peter Doocy, a senior correspondent for Fox News at the White House, posed a two-part question to the president. However, it was the second part of his inquiry that prompted a particularly insightful response.

Doocy asked, “With all due respect, why do you believe these attempts keep occurring?”

Trump took a moment to reflect before responding thoughtfully and carefully.

WATCH:

Well… you know, I’ve studied assassinations, and I must tell you that the most impactful people, the people that do the most, you take a look at the people… Abraham Lincoln, the people who have gone through this, where they got ’em. But, the people that do the most, the people that make the biggest impact, they’re the ones that they go after.

They don’t go after the ones who don’t do much because they like it that way. And when you look at the people who have, whether it was an attempt, or a successful attempt, they’re very impactful people. Just take a look at the names. They’re the big names. And, uh, I hate to say I’m honored by that, but I’ve done a lot, we’ve done a lot. We’ve taken this country and we were a laughingstock for years, and now we’re the hottest country anywhere in the world. We’ve changed this country, and there are a lot of people who are not happy about that. So, I think that’s the answer, Peter.

Our 40th president, Ronald Wilson Reagan, is the most recent example of a president who survived an assassination attempt, and went on to make an even more significant impact on the country, while bringing consequential change to the world. “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down that wall!” is as iconic as “Fight! Fight! Fight!”

Both are rallying cries that changed the trajectory and transformed the direction of nations. We would have never heard those words from Reagan, and the Cold War might never have been brought to an end, had Reagan not survived that 1981 assassination attempt by John Hinckley, Jr., ironically, in front of the same Washington Hotel where the last attempt on Trump’s life occurred. The mentally disturbed Hinckley, craving the attention of actress Jodie Foster, used a .22 caliber revolver to blunt President Reagan’s impact. One shudders to think what might have become of America and the conservative movement if Hinckley had succeeded.

The impact of Reagan’s recovery and second term reflected his determination to leave a better America and a safer globe for the next generation, because it mattered.

“Each generation goes further than the generation preceding it because it stands on the shoulders of that generation. You will have opportunities beyond anything we’ve ever known.”

Hell Freezes Over As Media Reveals Remarkable Actions Trump Took After WHCD Shooting

In 1912, our 26th president, Theodore Roosevelt, was also almost taken out by an assassin’s bullet. On a campaign stop in Milwaukee, WI, while running for a third presidential term, Roosevelt was the victim of an assassination attempt by a man named John Flammang Schrankat, who shot the president in the chest. Thanks to Roosevelt’s metal glasses case and the 50-page manuscript of his speech, the force of the bullet was blunted. While it lodged in his chest muscles, it did not hit any vital organs. Roosevelt not only calmed the crowd and prevented them from killing Schrankat, but he refused medical attention and still gave his speech, bloody shirt and all. Pretty ballsy.

My father was named after the Rough Rider, so I have a special affection for this president for that reason, along with his other consequential actions. From anti-trust legislation, the U.S. Census Bureau, the Roosevelt Corollary (which is a close cousin to the “Donroe Doctrine”), the Panama Canal, to our network of national park systems and national monuments, it was the visionary and bullheaded Theodore Roosevelt who got these things done, despite the opposition. Part of Roosevelt’s philosophy and impact is embodied in this quote: “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.”

In this year of America’s 250th anniversary, I expect that President Donald Trump will continue to work on consequential policies and actions to restore America to its people and leave a better future for the next generation.
