Unraveling the LEGO-for-Linguine Scheme: How a Pasta Swap Cost Target Thousands

0

A man has been taken into custody for allegedly executing a scheme that involved purchasing LEGO sets, substituting the pieces with dried pasta, and then returning the altered sets, leading to significant financial losses for Target.

“Yes, you read that correctly,” stated the Irvine Police Department in California in a Facebook post dated April 16. “We are indeed discussing durum wheat semolina pasta, in what can only be described as a pasta-tively terrible plan.”

Jarrelle Augustine now faces charges of grand theft and is being held in the Orange County Jail, according to the police statement. It remains unclear if Augustine has entered a plea to the charges.

The investigation into the 28-year-old began in December when he purchased and subsequently returned two LEGO sets valued at $350, as reported by the Los Angeles Times.

“LEGO pieces and pasta essentially produce the same sound,” explained Irvine Police spokesperson Ziggy Azarcon to the publication. “It’s a creative approach, that’s for sure. This is something our team had never encountered before, so it was certainly unique for our investigators to piece together this puzzle.”

Azarcon told Oxygen that in some cases, Augustine allegedly removed key pieces, without adding pasta, before returning the sets.

Augustine was arrested at his Paramount apartment, Azarcon told Oxygen. There, police found enough Lego pieces to fill two garbage bags, according to the Los Angeles Times.

“Target reported at least 70 thefts nationwide tied to the same suspect, stacking up about $34,000 in losses,” police shared on Facebook. “That’s a lot of missing pieces.”

In a surveillance video included in the police Facebook post, a suspect was seen grabbing LEGO boxes from store shelves and later exiting the store. Elsewhere in the video, a photo showed a $499 Marvel Avengers-themed set surrounded by bags of pasta.

“Everything was awesome in this LEGO crime spree until we got involved,” police wrote. “Like most bad builds, this one didn’t hold together.”

“If your master plan involves swapping LEGOs for linguine,” they continued, “we can promise your plan will be cooked al dente.”

Oxygen did not locate an attorney for Augustine.

Spokespeople from LEGO and Target did not immediately return requests for comment from Oxygen.

Chilling Case Unveiled: Teen Accused of Fatal Attack with Hair Tie – DA Reveals Shocking Details

A teenager from California faces serious charges, including murder and “assault with a hair tie,” after allegedly using a ponytail holder to strangle his 2-year-old foster brother. This tragic incident occurred just weeks after the young boy was placed in the care of the teen’s mother, despite her previous conviction for child endangerment, according to prosecutors.

The accused, now 18 but a minor at the time of the incident which took place on Easter Sunday, is charged with murder, sexual assault, and felony assault using a hair tie. The victim, Jaxon Juarez, affectionately known as “Baby Jaxon,” tragically lost his life.

The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office has not disclosed the teen’s name as he is currently being charged in juvenile court. Efforts are underway to move the case to adult court, according to a press release issued by the office.

The DA’s release details that the San Jose Police Department discovered Baby Jaxon’s small, bruised body on April 5, 2026. Evidence indicated that Jaxon, who was also the suspect’s cousin, had suffered repeated physical and sexual assaults since his placement in the foster home in February.

During a press conference on Monday, DA Jeff Rosen reported that Jaxon was found in his crib with a ponytail holder around his neck, justifying the “assault with a hair tie” charge. Rosen described the case as “terrible and horrific,” revealing that Jaxon endured multiple traumatic injuries, which led to his hospitalization and subsequent placement on life support.

Jaxon later died on April 9, per the DA’s office.

“We are left with broken hearts and serious questions about who was watching out for the safety of these extremely vulnerable children,” Rosen said in his office’s press release about Jaxon, who is the third foster child since 2023 to have been murdered under the care and custody of California’s Department of Family and Children’s Services, per Rosen.

“Today, we sadly add the name of Baby Jaxon alongside Baby Phoenix and others on a list of children whose short lives have been snuffed out through cruelty and recklessness,” Rosen said. “Jaxon will never have a chance at life. Jaxon will never have any way to tell his own story. My Office will speak for him and all the lost children as we seek justice.”

Local officials say Jaxon was placed in the care of Bridget Michelle Martinez, his killer’s mother, in February despite the woman having a felony conviction for child endangerment, according to local NPR affiliate KQED.

Jaxon’s biological father is reportedly Martinez’s cousin.

“It is completely unacceptable,” said Riley Wallace, Jaxon’s aunt who lives in Arizona, in an interview with KQED about Jaxon’s placement by DCFS. “They did not protect a child, and that’s their job,” Wallace blasted. “That’s what they took the child for, to protect him. And they failed him so terribly.”

According to Wallace, Jaxon’s mother passed away in 2025 due to alcohol abuse, which prompted the county to take custody of him. He lived with another foster family and then his maternal grandfather near Sacramento for six months before being placed in the care of Martinez. Wallace told KQED her family requested to take Jaxon in, but the county allegedly refused due to the distance from Jaxon’s father.

“We have the room,” Wallace said, noting how they would have taken Jaxon “in a heartbeat” had they been allowed. “Nothing made sense.”

Police and court records obtained by KQED show that Martinez was charged and convicted of child endangerment in 2014, as well as DUI, after being caught driving drunk with her 1-year-old daughter in the car with her. She pleaded no contest and was sentenced to probation.

Martinez also had a prior DUI conviction from 2011 and another DUI charge in 2020.

“It’s critical that whatever placement they decide, the first consideration should be, is it safe? And are the people there capable of meeting this child’s needs?” Steve Baron, a member of Santa Clara County’s Child Abuse Prevention Council, told KQED. “Were they aware of those records? And if not, why not? Because they should have been.”

DCFS officials have said they are currently investigating Jaxon’s case, calling it “deeply concerning,” KQED reports. “The county is committed to swiftly investigating every aspect of this horrific tragedy and publicly sharing the results of these investigations when available and to the extent allowable by law,” the agency said in a statement last week.

Details surrounding Jaxon’s murder case and the teen who allegedly killed him are not publicly available, due to the defendant’s age.

“If his petition is found true in juvenile court, he could face seven years in Secure Track, a locked facility for juveniles who have been adjudicated of serious crimes,” the DA’s office said in its press release Monday. “If the case is sent to adult court by a judge, he could face many years in prison.”

Juvenile Charged in Tragic Case of 10-Year-Old Alabama Girl’s Murder, Family Seeks Answers

0

A young girl from Alabama, cherished for her “vibrant and cheerful” personality, was tragically found deceased in an Alabama residence late on Friday night, prompting a homicide investigation that has resulted in a murder charge against a juvenile.

Piedmont police located Katheryn Bigbee’s body less than an hour following her reported disappearance, as detailed by AL.com.

“Officers acted promptly and arrived at the home,” stated Piedmont Police Chief Nathan Johnson. “Tragically, they found a young juvenile deceased inside the premises.”

Details regarding the home’s location or whether it was Katheryn’s own residence remain undisclosed by authorities. A minor, whose identity and connection to Katheryn have been kept confidential due to their age, has been apprehended and faces murder charges.

Uncertainty surrounds the ownership of the residence where Katheryn, aged 10, was found. A GoFundMe page has been established to support her family. (GoFundMe)

Bigbee’s cause of death also remains unclear, with police saying the investigation was still ongoing.

“Our family has been torn to pieces, and we have lost the most amazing, sweetest little girl. She was a light in any room she walked into,” Blake Trammell, who is in a relationship with Katheryn’s mother, wrote in a Facebook post. “I cannot express the pain, guilt, and emptiness that has come from all of this. We don’t have answers, only more questions.”

As a result of the investigation, police said that another juvenile has been taken into custody and charged with murder. (Blake Trammell/Facebook)

The girl’s school also recalled her as a beloved student, remembered for her “spunky personality.”

“Katheryn had a joyful, spunky personality that made her truly special. She was an enthusiastic reader and will be remembered for the happiness she shared so freely,” the school said in a statement.

Troop Beverly Hills Cast: See Their Stunning Transformations Today!

0

Viewed through a contemporary lens, “Troop Beverly Hills” emerges as a vibrant, whimsical film with a strong feminist undertone. However, this wasn’t always the case; the movie initially faced harsh criticism from both reviewers and audiences.

Released in 1989, “Troop Beverly Hills” is a family comedy featuring Shelley Long of “Cheers” fame. She portrays a wealthy housewife who takes on the role of troop leader for her daughter and other privileged children in Beverly Hills. Despite their lack of wilderness skills, the group exhibits resilience and enthusiasm, proving they’re a formidable team.

Thanks to its opulent costumes and spirited performances, “Troop Beverly Hills” has undergone a critical renaissance, earning its status as a cult favorite. With a diverse cast of young talents, many might wonder where these key players are now—ranging from Hollywood elites to social advocates and beyond.

Leading the spirited troop is Phyllis Nefler, a socialite confronting her recent separation from her husband, Freddy. Though initially out of her comfort zone, Phyllis is committed to being a dedicated leader for her daughter, Hannah, ultimately discovering her own inner strength and independence.

Shelley Long brings Phyllis to life, most famously known for her role as Diane Chambers on “Cheers.” Her portrayal earned her six Emmy nominations, resulting in one win, with five nods for the original series and another for reprising her role in “Frasier.” After departing from “Cheers”—a move that stirred controversy and might have affected her career trajectory—Long portrayed Carol Brady in “The Brady Bunch Movie” and its sequel. She also made memorable appearances in “Modern Family” as DeDe Pritchett. Her latest appearance was in 2021, playing Sharon Enderly in “The Cleaner.”

Shelley Long – Phyllis Nefler

At the head of the indomitable Beverly Hills troop is Phyllis Nefler, a rich housewife reeling from her recent separation from her husband Freddy. Out of her depths but utterly devoted to her preteen daughter Hannah, Phyllis is determined to be a good troop leader, and in the process, she rediscovers a brave, self-reliant part of herself.

Phyllis is played by Shelley Long, who is best known for her performance as Diane Chambers on the long-running sitcom “Cheers,” for which she earned six Emmy nominations (five for the original series, and one for her brief return to the character on “Frasier,” one of its many spinoffs) and one win. After leaving “Cheers,”  — a decision that generated controversy and may have negatively impacted her career — she played Carol Brady in the quirky “The Brady Bunch Movie” and “A Very Brady Sequel” and made several guest appearances on “Modern Family” as DeDe Pritchett, the ex-wife of Jay (Ed O’Neill) and the mother of Claire (Julie Bowen) and Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson). Her most recent role was in 2021, when she played Sharon Enderly in “The Cleaner.”

Craig T. Nelson – Freddy Nefler

Freddy Nefler is not an unfamiliar figure in the rich circles of Beverly Hills. A self-made man with his own business, Freddy is unfulfilled in his marriage and inevitably falls into the arms of a perky young realtor. Although he and Phyllis are in the process of breaking up when “Troop Beverly Hills” begins, there might just be enough of a spark for their marriage to survive.

Craig T. Nelson is also not an unfamiliar figure for fans of film and television. In addition to roles in movies like “Private Benjamin,” “Silkwood,” “The Killing Fields,” “Turner & Hooch,” “The Proposal,” and “Poltergeist” (a franchise fraught with real life peril) Nelson also voiced Mr. Incredible in “The Incredibles” and “The Incredibles 2” for Disney.

On the TV front, he’s perhaps best known for playing Coach Hayden Fox on “Coach” from 1989 to 1997, a role that earned him three Emmy nominations and one win. He was also featured in the main cast of “Parenthood” as the family patriarch Zeek Braverman from 2010 to 2015, and he played Dale on both “Young Sheldon” and “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.”

Jenny Lewis – Hannah Nefler

While Phyllis Nefler is larger than life, her daughter Hannah is much more grounded and often comes across as the adult of the family. She’s played by Jenny Lewis, who had a thriving acting career as a child during the 1980s and 1990s. Lewis’s largest role — aside from “Troop Beverly Hills,” of course — was her 18 episodes as Katie Monahan on “Brooklyn Bridge.” She was also featured on episodes of “The Twilight Zone,” “Webster,” “The Golden Girls,” “Mr. Belvedere,” “Growing Pains,” “Roseanne,” and had a role in “Pleasantville” with Reese Witherspoon and Tobey Maguire.

But these days, Jenny Lewis is far better known for her career as a musician. She was the lead singer and rhythm guitarist of Rilo Kiley with her then-boyfriend and fellow child star Blake Sennett, an indie band that released four albums before breaking up in 2014. She has since released five solo albums, not mention being part of the groups The Postal Service, Jenny & Johnny, and Nice as F*ck.

Ami Foster – Claire Sprantz

Ami Foster played Claire in “Troop Beverly Hills,” the daughter of a famous romance novelist who runs all of her ideas past her. Aside from her work in this film, she was best known for playing the snooty Margaux on “Punky Brewster” for 55 episodes from 1984 to 1988. In 1988, she was the voice of Lucy Van Pelt in “This is America, Charlie Brown.” She was also the voice of Holly on the animated series “Pound Puppies” and had appearances in “Full House,” “Charles in Charge,” “Quantum Leap,” “The Wonder Years,” “Empty Nest,” “The Outsiders,” and “Step by Step.”

Her last on-screen performance as a child actor was the role of Marla on “CBS Schoolbreak Special” in 1994. But she did return to play Margaux Kramer once more in the “Punky Brewster” reboot, where she was featured in one episode. She currently lives in Los Angeles with her firefighter husband, and they have two children together.

Carla Gugino – Chica Barnfell

Chica Barnfell is proof that just because a kid grows up surrounded by money and privilege doesn’t mean that she can’t also be neglected by her parents. Perpetually abandoned by her jet-setting mother and father, Chica has one of the most interesting arcs in “Troop Beverly Hills,” as she learns to let her guard down around Phyllis and her fellow Wilderness Girls.

Chica is played by Carla Gugino, who has gone on to have a thriving career in Hollywood, thanks in large part to her work with Mike Flanagan — she’s been in pretty much every one of his horror miniseries, from “The Haunting of Hill House” to “The Fall of the House of Usher.” But she’s been working as an actress since 1988, when she made an appearance in “Webster.”

Since then, she acted in “Chicago Hope,” “Spin City,” “Wayward Pines,” and “Falcon Crest” on television. On the big screen, you can find Gugino in “This Boy’s Life” alongside a young Leonardo DiCaprio, “Spy Kids,” “Sin City,” the 2009 version of “Watchmen,” “Gerald’s Game,” and “Lisa Frankenstein.” Gugino is also slated to appear in “The Adventures of Cliff Booth,” a rare follow-up from Quentin Tarantino starring Brad Pitt’s character from “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.”

Heather Hopper – Tessa DiBlasio

Tessa was the resident therapist in “Troop Beverly Hills” — she spent enough time with her psychologist to be able to psychoanalyze her fellow Wilderness Girls (and her troop leader, for that matter) with the best of them. She was played by Heather Hopper, a young actress who had the majority of her credits between the late 1980s and early 1990s. Hopper was best known for playing Nikki Coleman on “Good Morning, Miss Bliss,” a precursor to “Saved by the Bell.”

She also appeared in episodes of “Punky Brewster,” “It’s Garry Shandling’s Show,” “Married… with Children,” and “Beverly Hills, 90210.” In 1991, she was featured in an episode of “The New Lassie,” which was her last role for 10 years.

Between 2001 and 2004, she appeared in “Elvira’s Haunted Hills,” “The Shield,” “Miss Match,” and “Passions.” After that, she has seemingly led a quiet life in California raising her daughter, although she has attended reunions celebrating benchmark anniversaries for “Troop Beverly Hills” over the years.

Kellie Martin – Emily Coleman

Emily Coleman was one of the sadder but wiser of the Wilderness Girls in “Troop Beverly Hills” — her father was an actor hitting a rough patch in the industry, and their money struggles provided a stark contrast to the wealth and opulence of the rest of the troop.

She was played by Kellie Martin, who went on to have a long and interesting career as an actress. Martin is perhaps best known for her work in the fifth and sixth seasons of “E.R.,” where she played  Lucy Knight, a bright young medical student whose burgeoning career came to a tragic end during one of the most memorable Valentine’s Day episodes in television history. She also had the lead role in the made-for-TV drama “The Face on the Milk Carton” and appeared on episodes of shows like “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Mad Men,” “Ghost Whisperer,” and “Army Wives.” Over the last several years, she’s headlined a series of TV films for Hallmark called the “Hailey Dean Mysteries.”

Emily Schulman – Tiffany Honigman

Of all the Troop Beverly Hills girls, Tiffany was the kid who fit the one-percenter bill the most. Her father had to pay her off to attend their troop meetings at the beginning, and she’s the one who nails the jewelry appraisal patch. Tiffany was played by Emily Schulman, a face who was likely very familiar to 1980s audiences. Not only did she have hundreds of commercials under her belt by her teen years, but she also played the role of Harriet for nearly 100 episodes of “Small Wonder.” She also starred opposite her “Troop Beverly Hills” co-star Kellie Martin in “Christy.”

By the time she reached adulthood, she left acting behind but not the industry. She worked as the head of Acme Talent and Literary’s Commercial Division, and in 2008, her team moved to Talentworks. More recently, Schulman (now Emily Webster) has left the agency world and moved her family to Connecticut, where she teaches acting.

Tasha Scott – Jasmine Shakar

All of the Wilderness Girls in “Troop Beverly Hills” have charisma, but Jasmine is without a doubt one of the most memorable, largely because of her scene-stealing lead performance during the film’s “Cookie Time” musical number. Jasmine is the extremely self-confident daughter of a wealthy boxer, and she was played by Tasha Scott.

Scott began her career in “Webster” back in 1987, and made brief appearances in “Full House” and “Quantum Leap” before taking on larger roles in 13 episodes of “Snoops” and 10 episodes of “South Central.” Her last on-screen performance came in 1997, when she starred in 10 episodes of “The Parent’Hood” as Theresa.” She took a long break from acting after that, but returned to Hollywood in the 2010s, playing Judge in the 2015 short film “Troop Hood” and Porsche in 2018’s “Bluest Moon.” She also has an upcoming role in the Christian romance “Recipe for Disaster.”

Aquilina Soriano – Lily Marcigan

Lily is the daughter of, as Phyllis calls them, Mr. and Mrs. Dictator, loosely based on Ferdinand and Imelda Marcos of the Philippines. She was played by Aquilina Soriano, a young actress who had just four credits to her name, aside from “Troop Beverly Hills.” She appeared in “Falcon Crest,” “Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper,” “Blossom,” and “Unhappily Ever After” before retiring from acting to pursue other interests. But that’s not the end of her story.

Soriano is a founder and the current executive director of the Pilipino Workers Center of Southern California, where she does advocacy work on behalf of the domestic worker movement in California. In 2018, she was named one of the Frederick Douglass 200, an award established by the Frederick Douglass Family Initiatives & the Antiracist Research & Policy Center at American University to honor those who “best embody the work and spirit of Douglass across those areas where he had such an impact — abolitionist, politician, writer, feminist, educator, entrepreneur and diplomat.”

Betty Thomas – Velda Plendor

Velda Plendor is the militant leader of a Wilderness Girls troop who stands in withering contempt of everything Phyllis Nefler represents. From beginning to end, she attempts to bring down our stalwart heroines in “Troop Beverly Hills.” Velda was brought to life by Betty Thomas, who was best known for playing Lucille Bates on nearly 150 episodes of “Hill Street Blues” during the 1980s.

Although she was a decorated actress, winning an Emmy in 1985 for her work on “Hill Street Blues,” “Troop Beverly Hills” was destined to be her last on-screen performance (not counting a one-off cameo on a 2018 episode of “Kidding”). Instead, she shifted her focus behind the camera, and become one of the most successful female directors of the 1990s and 2000s. She helmed “The Brady Bunch Movie,” “Doctor Doolittle,” “I Spy,” “John Tucker Must Die,” “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel,” and several episodes of “Grace and Frankie.” In 1993, she received her second Emmy win, this time for directing an episode of “Dream On.”

Mary Gross – Annie Herman

Sweet little Annie is used and abused in “Troop Beverly Hills,” as the domineering Velda forces her to go undercover as Phyllis’s assistant troop leader to spy on Wilderness Girls of Beverly Hills. Luckily, she gets her revenge and a lovely ’80s makeover to boot, so all’s well that ends well.

Annie Herman was played by Mary Gross, a comedic actor who was well established in the industry by the time she was cast in “Troop Beverly Hills.” From 1981 to 1985, she was a cast member on “Saturday Night Live,” and she added to her small screen credits with appearances in “Californication,” “Boston Legal,” “Malcolm in the Middle,” “Six Feet Under,” and “Sabrina the Teenage Witch.” She was also well represented on film, acting in “Baby Boom,” “The Santa Clause,” “40 Days and 40 Nights,” and “A Mighty Wind.” Her last performance was in a 2012 episode of “Raising Hope,” where she played Denise Jenkins, a woman who briefly adopted Jimmy as a young child.

Dinah Lacey – Cleo Plendor

Poor Cleo. She’s set up to be the villainous counterpart to the young members of Troop Beverly Hills, but really she just longs for the approval of her mom, militant troop leader Velda Plendor (who has no issue with telling her to “nix on the ‘mom’ business” whenever she starts showing signs of sentimentality).

Cleo Plendor was played by Dinah Lacey, a young actress who got her start on television in the 1980s. She appeared on episodes of “The Jeffersons,” “The Facts of Life,” “Highway to Heaven,” and “Life Goes On.” “His & Hers,” released in 1990, was her final on-screen performance until 2022, when she turned up as a zombie in the horror film “Bury Me Twice.” Like many of her “Troop Beverly Hills” costars, she has participated in reunions for the cult classic film over the years.

Tori Spelling – Jamie

One of the pre-eminent ’90s nepo-babies, Tori Spelling made her big screen debut as Jamie in “Troop Beverly Hills, the second in command of the Red Feather Wilderness Girls troop. As the daughter of big-time Hollywood producer Aaron Spelling, a career in acting was pretty much a foregone conclusion. She got her breakout role as Donna Martin on “Beverly Hills, 90210,” a hit television show that she appeared in for 292 episodes (and allegedly got one of her co-workers fired during). She reprised the role of Donna in the spinoff “Melrose Place,” as well as the “90210” reboot.

In addition to some other acting performances, including playing Holly Hamilton in “Mystery Girls” and Linda Lake in “Smallville,” Spelling has become a reality TV star in her own right. She and her then-husband starred in “Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood” for several years, and she was featured on Season 33 of “Dancing With the Stars.”

Syria Reports Successful Interception of Suspected Iran-Backed Hezbollah Missile Targeting Israel

0

On Sunday, Syrian authorities announced they had successfully disrupted a plan by Hezbollah militants, backed by Iran, to launch an attack on Israel from Syrian territory. The scheme reportedly involved a covert operation using a truck camouflaged to transport missile launchers.

The Syrian Interior Ministry revealed that they intercepted the truck in Quneitra, a southern province that encompasses the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. The vehicle, along with its three passengers, had been under close observation before officials from the Interior Ministry and Syria’s General Intelligence Service intervened to arrest the suspects.

This truck was discovered to be outfitted with missiles and launchers that had been “professionally prepared and concealed,” intended for a surprise cross-border assault on Israel. According to Syrian security forces, the truck had been altered to deploy 107mm rockets from its cargo area—a tactic frequently employed by Iran-supported Shiite militias in Iraq.

In the operation, two individuals were apprehended, while a third suspect managed to evade capture.

The Interior Ministry reported that the “sabotage cell” was connected to both Hezbollah and vestiges of the Assad regime, which was ousted by the current Syrian administration in December 2024. The cell aimed to “fire missiles across the border to create instability in the region.”

Syrian officials said there have been “several attempts to destabilize the country and undermine public security” by “remnants of the former regime and unscrupulous individuals linked to Hezbollah.”

Another example occurred last week, when a terrorist cell linked to Hezbollah allegedly attempted to use a bomb to murder “a religious figure in the vicinity of the Maronite Church in Bab Touma.” Subsequent reports indicated the target was Rabbi Michael Khoury, although this has not been confirmed by the Syrian government.

The Syrian Interior Ministry seized a massive cache of weapons and explosives from the cell. Five more alleged members were arrested on Sunday.

Hezbollah claims it has “no activity, no ties and no relationship with any party in Syria and has no presence on Syrian soil.” When the Syrian government directly accused Hezbollah of participating in the Bab Touma plot, the Lebanese terrorist group said the claims were “false and fabricated” by unspecified “intelligence services” that wanted to “inflame tensions between Lebanon and Syria.”

Hezbollah is regarded with disapproval by Damascus because it supported dictator Bashar Assad against the coalition of rebels and jihadis who eventually overthrew him, as did Hezbollah’s masters in Iran. In the time since Assad’s ouster, Syria has cut off Hezbollah supply routes and shut down its drug smuggling operations.

Local Man Sues Hawkins County and Deputy Over Alleged Unjust DUI Arrest

In Hawkins County, Tennessee, a man is taking legal action against both the county and a deputy from the local sheriff’s department, alleging unjust detention and arrest for a DUI offense.

Filed on February 26, 2026, the lawsuit presents Timmy Martin as the plaintiff, who contends that Deputy Brandon Beach unlawfully detained him on March 1, 2025, at approximately 5:30 a.m.

Both Deputy Beach and Hawkins County have refuted any misconduct and are seeking the dismissal of the case.

Martin’s Claims

Martin recounts that he was en route to his morning work shift at a Knoxville salon when Beach pulled him over on Highway 11W. According to the lawsuit, Martin promptly began recording the encounter using his phone.

The legal document also asserts that due to the darkness, Beach lacked adequate lighting to properly observe Martin’s eyes and facial expressions.

Beach allegedly told Martin he had pulled him over because the vehicle had swerved and requested Martin’s license and registration, the lawsuit states. Beach then reportedly asked if Martin had been drinking or taking drugs, to which Martin said he had not.

The lawsuit claims Martin explained he was going to work at a salon, which caused a change in Beach’s demeanor. Martin claims he was again asked if he had taken any antidepressants or suboxone, which he denied. According to Martin, the only things he had consumed in the last seven hours were a normal dose of Nyquil and two Goody’s powder packets.

The suit alleges Beach told Martin that if he admitted to taking drugs, he would let him go.

Martin claims to have been subjected to a series of field sobriety tests while on a downhill slope in 30-degree weather. He also claims to have told Beach he was unable to continue raising his foot during one test due to a previous surgery. After telling Beach he was not able to perform the test with his other foot, Martin alleges he was placed in the back of the patrol vehicle while Beach searched his vehicle.

The lawsuit states Martin had $860 in the center console of his vehicle that night.

Beach then told Martin he was going to jail, according to the suit.

“Upon hearing that he was going to jail, the plaintiff said, ‘You know this is a false arrest.’ Deputy Beach replied, ‘I’ll make sure it’s not,” the lawsuit reads.

When another member of law enforcement arrived, the lawsuit claims Beach could be heard saying, “It’s not alcohol, there’s something in his eyes.” Martin then claims to have been transported to the Hawkins County Jail, where he says he was strip-searched and had his blood drawn.

Martin also claims to have requested that his blood pressure be taken, which he says was denied. When he was released from the hospital, the lawsuit states Martin went to get his impounded vehicle. Martin alleges that when he found his vehicle, the $860 was missing.

The lawsuit claims the money was never returned to him. It also states that when Martin received his belongings, including his phone, back from the jail, the video of Beach was gone.

Martin also claimed that he went to a hospital after his release from jail and learned that his blood pressure was at a level that qualified as a medical emergency.

The lawsuit claims Beach filed an arrest warrant for Martin that contained false and omitted information.

Martin claims the results of the blood draw showed no evidence of alcohol or drugs, with the exception of .05 mL of Doxylamine, which is found in Nyquil.

After receiving the results of the tests, the charges against Martin were reportedly dismissed in exchange for his attending traffic school.

Martin is suing the county and Beach on claims of unlawful detention, false arrest and malicious prosecution, as well as negligence, theft of property and destruction of evidence, and intentional, reckless, and/or negligent infliction of emotional distress.

Beach and Hawkins County’s Answer

In an answer to the lawsuit filed on April 10, 2026, Beach denied violating Martin’s constitutional rights and denied that Martin was wrongfully detained or arrested without probable cause.

He further denied that any falsified statements were made and said it was not a true statement that no drugs were found in Martin’s system.

Beach also denied that Martin had $860 in the vehicle, nor was that amount of money in his possession when he was booked into the jail.

The deputy also denied that Martin had recorded the interaction on his phone and denied ever removing any video from Martin’s phone.

Beach did acknowledge that Martin’s DUI charge was nolled by the district attorney’s office in exchange for his attendance at driving school.

Beach denied that Martin was entitled to any relief or damages.

Beach asserted that he is entitled to qualified immunity in the matter under state law and reiterated that he had reasonable suspicion to conduct a traffic stop and arrest Martin.

“Having fully answered the Complaint, the defendants assert that the claims against them should be dismissed at the cost of the plaintiff.”

Authorities Rescue Young Girl from Abductor Thanks to Her Discreet Signal

A Michigan gas station attendant became a hero when he noticed a frightened 16-year-old girl silently pleading for help, leading to her rescue from an abductor, police reported.

The drama began around 7 a.m. on April 13 in Hamtramck, as the teenager waited at her bus stop. Allegedly, Donald Fields approached her, pressed an object against her back, and coerced her into a van at gunpoint, according to Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy.

A fellow student from Frontier International Academy witnessed the kidnapping and quickly dialed 911 as Fields drove off, authorities revealed.

Inside the van, Fields, 48, is accused of sexually assaulting the young girl before arriving at a gas station. There, he led her into the convenience store, according to officials.

In response, Hamtramck Police officers launched a search at the girl’s school. Her classmates, utilizing cellphone tracking, alerted authorities to her location at the gas station, enabling her swift rescue.

Responding officers then told other police units to rush to the station, where they found Fields walking out of the door and the girl inside with the heroic clerk who brought her to safety.

Abdulrahman Abohatem was behind the counter that morning when Fields and the girl entered the store as the suspect asked the minor to purchase cigarettes for him, police said.

‘When he ask her to pay for the cigarettes, I stop and go there’s something wrong. And she mouthed to me, like with no sound, “help”,’ Abohatem told WXYZ-TV.

He then came out from behind the protective glass, confronted Fields, and brought the girl to safety.

‘I go out, I kick him out, I ask the girl go behind me,’ he explained before adding: ‘I feel good when you save somebody. Sixteen years old – she is [a] child.’

Police bodycam footage captured the moment officers pulled up to the gas station and arrested Fields.

He was seen walking out of the store by himself when officers told him to put his hands behind his back.

They then brought him over to the hood of a patrol car and latched the handcuffs on his wrists.

Fields then showed officers where his car, a BMW SUV, was parked by the gas pumps and was told he was being detained.

Fields responded: ‘For what?’

‘I’ll tell you in a second,’ a male officer replied as two others walked into the store.

Officers with the Hamtramck Police Department then rushed to the gas station and arrested Fields, who has a history of sexual assault charges, Hamtramck Mayor Adam Alharbi said

Other chilling footage captured the moment Fields allegedly snagged the girl at the bus stop.

The police department blurred out the girl in the clip, but in the very beginning, a man, who appeared to be Fields, grabbed her.

He then sped away in the car as the other girl came running before calling the police.

Fields was charged with two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, kidnapping, one count of felonious assault, and three counts of felony firearm.

He was also charged with one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm because he has a criminal history of sexual assault charges, Hamtramck Mayor Adam Alharbi said on Thursday.

He entered a not guilty plea during his arraignment and is being held without bond.

Fields is scheduled to appear in court next on April 30 at 9am. If convicted as charged, he could spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Meanwhile, the teenage victim is back home safe with her family, who are beyond thankful that Abohatem stepped in to save her from further harm.

The prosecutor’s office commended the young girl for her fast thinking during such a terrifying situation.

‘Our young survivor in this case was simply walking in broad daylight when she was viciously attacked and sexually assaulted,’ Worthy said.

‘Despite what she had just gone through, her quick thinking and mental toughness saved her life. We cannot reverse what happened to her, but we can work hard to bring justice to he.’

West Wilson Speaks Out: The Truth Behind Amanda Batula Romance, Harassment Scandal & Cheating Allegations

Summer House Star West Wilson Breaks Silence About Amanda Batula Romance, Says Amanda's Been Getting Harassed & Addresses Cheating Claims

Summer House personality West Wilson has finally opened up about his relationship with fellow cast member Amanda Batula in a revealing podcast interview.

In the candid conversation, West was clear about the timeline of his romance with Amanda, emphasizing that it did not overlap with her marriage to Kyle Cooke or his intermittent relationship with Ciara Miller.

“I’ve been better,” West admitted on the Show Me Something With Sophie and West podcast, which he co-hosts. “A lot has unfolded in a very short period, to say the least. I’m just trying to take it day by day and avoid my phone, but the internet can be quite intimidating.”

He acknowledged that Amanda has borne much of the fallout and expressed his desire for critics to direct their grievances toward him instead.

“For example, her number got leaked,” he elaborated. “I don’t know how that happened. And someone messaged her and called her a home-wrecking w*ore, which I found to be obviously inappropriate. Can’t talk like that to people. But it’s also not true.”

West also insisted he wanted to be “very clear” about the lack of overlap between other relationships and theirs.

“I know there’s a thousand different theories on the internet right now, but that is one thing that for sure did not happen,” he stated. “Everyone was single, like I said earlier. So then we realized things are maybe a little bit serious in February, and that’s when this all started, and there’s not a whole lot more to it than that.”

West was also asked if he’s sent messages to any of his castmates.

“I’ve sent some texts,” he confirmed. “Haven’t gotten responses from everybody yet, which is to be expected. And I get it.

“But that’s the hardest part I think of this whole situation is, you know, my actions have hurt people that I care about. But the reunion’s coming up and I can give those apologies face-to-face and also clear up all of the crazy s*it that’s been on the internet.”

West and Amanda officially confirmed their relationship to the world with a joint social media statement on March 31.

“We’ve seen the growing online speculation, so while this is still very new, we wanted to provide some clarity,” they shared at the time. “It was never our intention to purposefully hide anything. Given the complicated dynamics involved and the scrutiny that comes with being on a reality show, we needed a little space to process things privately before speaking on it.”

“We’ve shown up for each other as friends over the years, through all the highs and lows, and what’s developed recently was the last thing that either of us expected,” they continued. “Our connection grew out of a genuine, long-standing friendship, which made it especially important for us to approach this with care.”

Amanda and West noted that, as their “feelings evolved,” they kept quiet, because they wanted to “take time to understand exactly what [they] were feeling.”

“We also recognize that this has had an impact beyond just us and never wanted our actions to cause any hurt or be perceived as careless,” they added. “We truly appreciate the understanding and respect as we navigate this.”

Zephyrhills Mailbox Damage Disrupts Regular Deliveries for a Year

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — For an entire year, Joe Desmarais and seven of his neighbors faced erratic mail service after their community’s cluster mailbox was damaged and taken away. As an associate broker at Betmar Realty, Desmarais found himself without consistent mail delivery due to the absence of this shared set of secured mailboxes.

Frustrated by the lack of progress, Desmarais reached out to Better Call Behnken, seeking assistance after numerous attempts to get updates from officials about when a new mailbox would be installed.

“I’ve been in touch with them several times,” Desmarais explained. “They either say the mailbox is on order or they’ve received it but are waiting for installation.”

During this period, mail delivery was sporadic at best.

“The mail carrier delivers only occasionally,” Desmarais noted. “When mail does arrive, it’s usually a large pile, representing three to four weeks’ worth at once.”

While some neighbors have individual mailboxes, Desmarais said he was told that customers assigned to a cluster box are not allowed to install their own mailbox.

“I’ve got several case numbers,” Desmarais said. “Each time that I’ve called, which has been on a monthly basis since January, I’ve gotten a new case number and they’ve told me that we’ve escalated, we’ve escalated, and I just still haven’t seen any … obviously there’s no new box out there.”

The delay created challenges for his business.

“It is very frustrating not getting the mail,” he said. “As a business, we have things that have to go out to customers. And we need those documents to come back to us as well. And when they’re not delivered in a timely fashion, it’s very inconvenient.”

After months of delays, Desmarais called 8 On Your Side Consumer Investigator Shannon Behnken who then reached out to the U.S. Postal Service.

A spokesperson sent this statement:

USPS statement:

“The Postal Service strives to always provide the best possible service to our valued customers. We apologize for any inconvenience that may have been experienced, due to the damaged Cluster Box Unit (CBU) at this location. Local postal officials took swift action to address the situation. We are pleased to report that the CBU replacement has been installed, and regular mail delivery has resumed.  We appreciate the patience of our valued customers.”

Within hours, Desmarais called to report a resolution: workers installed a new mailbox.

“I’m absolutely amazed and I want to thank you first off,” he said. “The squeaky wheel gets the grease, but with your help, it occurred much more quickly than me just trying to do it on my own.”
