A man is facing serious charges after reportedly tampering with a coworker’s water bottle and footwear due to dissatisfaction with the colleague’s behavior following a promotion.
Makoto Kuroda, employed in a laboratory at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, has been charged with second-degree reckless endangerment and tampering with household products, as per a university press release.
As of now, it remains unclear from court documents whether Kuroda has entered a plea in response to these charges.
The incident unfolded on April 6, when campus police responded to a report involving the contamination of a water bottle and shoes belonging to an employee at the Influenza Research Institute. This information is detailed in a criminal complaint obtained by Oxygen.
According to the complaint, the male employee, whose identity has not been disclosed, informed police that he had consumed half of the water from his bottle before leaving it on his desk. Upon returning a few days later, he noticed a peculiar smell and taste, prompting him to spit out the water. Additionally, he detected an unusual odor emanating from his shoes, which he suspected to be chloroform.
According to the affidavit, Kuroda admitted he placed the chemicals Trizol and paraformaldehyde into his co-worker’s water bottle and shoes. University officials said in a statement that the chemicals—paraformaldehyde, chloroform and Trizol—are commonly found in research labs, though testing is still ongoing.
Kuroda allegedly told police he was upset over a promotion. After both men moved up the corporate ladder, the victim was promoted again and, per the affidavit, and Kuroda claimed his co-worker’s attitude toward him changed, acting as though he was “better.”
Meanwhile, in an interview with police, the victim said that he and Kuroda were once good friends, but had grown apart, according to the affidavit.
Kuroda has been placed on administrative leave while the university conducts a workplace investigation, with the press release noting, “His access to physical and digital university assets, and his research privileges, have been revoked.”

The Los Angeles Police Department has confirmed the arrest of singer D4vd in connection with the murder of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas. This development was announced on Thursday.
According to an official statement from the LAPD, detectives from its Robbery-Homicide Division took David Burke, a 21-year-old Los Angeles resident, into custody. Burke, who performs under the stage name D4vd, is currently being held without bail on suspicion of Rivas’s murder.
The case is set to be reviewed by the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office on Monday, where further legal proceedings will be determined.
In response to the arrest, D4vd’s legal team has issued a statement asserting his innocence. They firmly deny that he was involved in Rivas’s death.
“No grand jury has returned an indictment in this case, nor has any criminal complaint been filed,” the statement reads. “David has been detained solely on suspicion, and we are committed to vigorously defending his innocence.”
D4vd’s arrest comes months after Rivas’s remains were discovered in the front trunk of a Tesla that had been impounded at a Hollywood tow yard. Police say the vehicle was registered to D4vd.
D4vd was officially named as a suspect in the killing in February, per unsealed court documents. In petitions demanding his parents testify in front of a Los Angeles County grand jury, D4vd was described as a ‘target’ in the death of Rivas.

The grand jury investigation into D4vd began in mid-November. Jurors were presented evidence by prosecutors and relevant individuals were called testify, including D4vd’s managers and a friend of D4vd, Neo Langston.
Rivas’s family said she was last seen in the spring of 2024, when she left her Lake Elsinore home. She was 13 at the time.
Rivas’s remains were discovered last September because the Tesla that allegedly belonged to D4vd was left on a public street for more than 72 hours, according to the LAPD.
Neighbors said the Tesla was moved several times over the preceding three months before it was left on Bluebird Avenue in the Hollywood Hills.
It was then impounded and taken to Hollywood Tow. Employees at the tow yard began to notice a stench coming from the vehicle and called police on September 8, 2025.
Rivas’s decomposing body was found in the Tesla by investigators, who said she had been dismembered.
She was found days after what would have been her 15th birthday, but police believe she likely died much earlier, possibly in the spring of 2025.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner said Rivas was wearing black leggings, a tube top, a yellow metal chain bracelet and stud earrings when she was found.

Chilling audio captured by a Ring doorbell reveals a drug dealer bragging about the fatal stabbing of a university student mere minutes after the crime.
Dino Donaldson took the life of 21-year-old Anojan Gnaneswaran, an accounting student and accomplished karate black belt, during a violent drug deal gone wrong at Strawberry Hill station in Twickenham.
As Donaldson left the scene, he inadvertently triggered a nearby Ring doorbell, which recorded him boasting about the murder to a companion.
In the recording, he boasts, “I stabbed a man in his back, bro. I stabbed him through the back, bruv – I stabbed him fully. I watched it and felt it go in him. Yeah?”
After the shocking incident, Donaldson boarded the N87 night bus, where security footage showed him laughing and smiling. He was also seen shaking hands and exchanging a fist-bump with another passenger.
Donaldson, from Ealing, was arrested by detectives from the British Transport Police’s Major, Serious and Organised Crime (MSOC) team.
Jurors found him guilty of murder on Wednesday.

Earlier, the Old Bailey heard how two groups of young men arranged a deal of £50 for 10 MDMA tablets to be exchanged at Strawberry Hill on the evening of January 8, 2024.
Donaldson and three others arrived just after 10pm, followed by Mr Gnaneswaran around an hour later.
There was a disagreement between the two parties and Mr Gnaneswaran called his brother, who came to the station with two others.
The argument continued on the platform before Donaldson pulled a long knife out of his waistband.
He chased the group and caught up with Mr Gnaneswaran on the railway tracks where he stabbed him in the chest, abdomen and thigh.
The victim’s brother phoned 999 and began CPR before paramedics arrived to take over. But the youngster died at the scene.
BTP detectives traced Donaldson’s movements after the attack using CCTV as he fled from Twickenham to Kingston Upon Thames.
A search team found the knife and a black glove in a tree at the murder scene. Forensic examination found DNA belonging to Donaldson and Anojan on both items.

Vanuatu’s government plans to ask China for help on energy security

Ralph Regenvanu, Vanuatu’s Minister for Climate Change Adaptation, spoke amid rising tensions following Australia’s unsuccessful bid to finalize a $500 million security agreement with Vanuatu last September. Meanwhile, China continues to expand its influence across the Indo-Pacific region.
A passionate advocate for climate action, Regenvanu told SBS News that Australia must reconsider its reliance on fossil fuels, especially with the ongoing threat to energy security posed by potential disruptions in oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz.
Prime Minister Albanese arrived in Malaysia on Wednesday afternoon, following visits to Brunei and Singapore earlier in the week. During these trips, he sought assurances that Australia will continue to receive crucial supplies of petrol and diesel from these partner nations.
Regenvanu emphasized to SBS News that Australia has a significant opportunity to pivot to renewable energy, a transition that is already underway in the domestic market. He warned that further investments in fossil fuels could detract from this vital shift towards sustainable energy sources.

Regenvanu also threw his support behind Australia introducing a 25 per cent gas export tax, an idea which has gained traction from the crossbench and Greens during the war in the Middle East.
“We are concerned about Australia continuing to supply LNG [liquefied natural gas] to the Asian economies,” he said.
“There’s a need to rein this in, in alignment with international law. There’s a need to phase out these exports as well.”
When asked about whether it was time for a gas export tax to be introduced, Albanese said any changes would be found in the upcoming federal budget, to be handed down in three weeks.

Energy Minister Chris Bowen stressed Australia’s first priority was supply, but recognised the importance of diversifying energy — including with renewables — during times of global conflict.
“There isn’t one country in the world that said: ‘You know what this fuel crisis reminds us, is we need more fossil fuels’,” he told reporters on Monday.
“No war can impede the flow of sun to Australia. No sanctions can be applied to wind.”
Regenvanu’s criticism come as Pasifika leaders wrap up three-day talks in Port Vila to manage a transition away from fossil fuels, ahead of a major international summit in Colombia later this month.

Regenvanu said Vanuatu has enough fuel reserves until the end of June, but residents will likely start seeing fuel and food price hikes by May.
Vanuatu has not asked for help with energy security from Australia yet, but Regenvanu did not rule it out.
“We are definitely going to reach out to China as well,” he said.
“I don’t think anyone has anything to be concerned about Vanuatu doing what it does as a sovereign state.
“We are not going to be a militarised state in any way. We will never host any foreign military bases. We will never abide any foreign interference in our infrastructure,” he said.
The proposed 10-year, $500 million Nakamal agreement was aimed at funding Vanuatu’s key economic and climate priorities, while locking in Australia as Vanuatu’s security partner of choice.
But last-minute sticking points emerged while Albanese travelled to Port Vila last September to sign the pact, due to concerns from Vanuatu officials it could hurt the country’s economic ties with China.

A man in New York City faces serious charges after a devastating apartment fire resulted in the deaths of four individuals and left several others injured. Sources indicate that the accused, a Mexican national residing in the U.S. illegally, faces the possibility of being released back into the public as the city’s officials reportedly decline to comply with a request from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for his transfer to immigration authorities.
Roman Ceron Amatitla, 38, who hails from Maspeth, is charged with eight counts of second-degree murder and first-degree arson. The charges stem from allegations that he deliberately set fire to a three-story building in Flushing on March 16, choosing his target at random.
Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz detailed the events leading up to the incident. On that fateful day, Amatitla reportedly entered and exited the Avery Avenue building several times, behaving erratically by urinating in front of the apartments. He then proceeded to a nearby gas station, where he purchased a beer, stole a second one, and acquired a pack of matches after refusing to pay for a lighter.
The authorities allege that Amatitla re-entered the apartment building for the last time, igniting a piece of paper and tossing it onto trash near a stairwell, sparking the tragic blaze.

A man from New York faces a lifetime in prison after he fatally shot two individuals while they stood on a porch.
Jermaine Williams, aged 25, was convicted by a jury last month on two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree murder. The verdict came nearly two years after the tragic deaths of 46-year-old Shatina Jones and 43-year-old Timothy Chealey. On Wednesday, Williams received a life sentence without the possibility of parole. As reported by the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office, the fatal shooting occurred on May 6, 2024, in Rochester, New York, after a concert Jones and Chealey attended earlier that evening.
Williams had an altercation with an unidentified person at the concert, which led him to follow them to the house where Jones and Chealey were present. Upon arrival, Williams opened fire, resulting in the deaths of Jones and Chealey. A third person was also shot but survived the incident.
According to local ABC affiliate WHAM, Jones and Chealey had attended a Sexyy Red concert at the Blue Cross Arena. Jones, a resident of Buffalo, New York, was in Rochester to celebrate her daughter’s birthday.
Jones’ family shared with WHAM that she had known the homeowner for over three decades. Her sister, Andrea Tripp, remarked, “Our families grew up together, so it was just my sister spending one night at her best friend’s house.”
On the night she was killed, Jones had stepped out of the house to smoke a cigarette on the front porch when Williams started firing.
The nature of Jones’s relationship with Chealey remained unclear.
After the shooting, Williams fled but was apprehended in a neighboring county by the U.S. Marshals.
Monroe County Assistant District Attorney Adam VanHeyst said in a press release following Williams’ conviction, “What should have remained a minor dispute at a concert turned into a calculated and cowardly act of retaliation.” He added, “Jermaine Williams made a conscious decision to arm himself and open fire on a porch full of individuals — killing Timothy Chealey and Shatina Jones, one of whom had nothing to do with the earlier altercation.”
Authorities are currently on the lookout for a potential witness to an alleged sexual assault that occurred earlier this year in Melbourne.

A different man has already been arrested in relation to the alleged sexual assault at the nightclub and another at nearby Corrs Lane.
Police confronted the 22-year-old French national at Sydney International Airport on January 4.
He was extradited to Melbourne the following night and charged with six offences, including two counts of rape and two counts of sexual assault.
He will next appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on May 22.

Comedian Kevin Hart is once again joining forces with Audible to release a new Audible Original entitled “Kids Make Me Angry,” scheduled for launch on June 4, just in time for Father’s Day.

In the audiobook, Hart outlines fatherhood through eight distinct stages, beginning with initial uncertainty and progressing to the complexities of raising teenagers and ultimately learning to let go. His stories cover everything from everyday discipline to high-stakes situations and preparing his kids for life as adults.
