Ohio River Tragedy: Attempted Rescue Leaves 5 Dead

0

A tragic scene unfolded on Sunday night in Ohio when five individuals, including two sets of parents, tragically lost their lives attempting to save a swimmer in distress in the river. Their heroic but ultimately heartbreaking efforts have left several young children without their parents.

The group, which included five adults, two children, and one other individual, headed to the Scioto River to enjoy a summer evening of fishing and relaxation. What was meant to be a peaceful outing quickly turned into a nightmare, Delaware County Sheriff Jeffrey Balzer revealed during a news conference held on Monday.

The disaster began when one of the adults decided to take a swim in the river but soon found themselves in trouble. In a desperate attempt to assist, two other adults jumped in to help, but they too started to struggle against the current. Despite the mounting danger, two more adults plunged into the waters to offer aid, as Sheriff Balzer explained.

Tragically, none of them emerged from the river alive.

Help was swiftly summoned when a motorist spotted a “clearly distraught” young child running alongside a nearby road at approximately 9 p.m. This concerned observation prompted the Good Samaritan to dial 911, leading authorities to the grim scene.

The terrified child said that his “family was in the river,” cops said.

Two women were then pulled from the river and taken to nearby hospitals, where they were pronounced dead.

The bodies of three men were recovered later on Monday from the river in Powell, north of Columbus, according to Tracy Whited, a spokesperson for the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office. It’s unclear where the trio were located.

Two sets of parents were among the five killed in the chaos, the sheriff added.

Two young children under the age of 10 who were with the group have since been placed in family services, Balzer said.

Authorities have not yet publicly identified the five people who drowned. The exact circumstances around their deaths remain unclear.

The river was running high and fast, flowing at a rate of 350 cubic feet per second on Sunday, according to data from a US Geological Survey water gauge at the nearby dam. The number is more than double the average rate.

Balzer urged people to ensure they have the proper safety devices and are confident in their swimming abilities before going into the water.

“Know your skill level before you get in the water. Are you a confident swimmer?” Balzer said. “Make sure you have other people around in case something goes wrong to notify someone.”

Internet Influencer Allegedly Shoplifts $2,500 Worth of Items from Grocery Store, Authorities Report

0

A beauty influencer from New Jersey, who is also the wife of a firefighter, has been swept up in controversy for allegedly shoplifting $2,500 in goods over four separate visits to a ShopRite store.

Jeana DiCarlo, a 35-year-old resident of Middletown, is not only a mother to five children but also a notable presence on Instagram, boasting a following of over 30,000. Her social media presence is filled with insights into skincare and glimpses into her life as the wife of an FDNY firefighter.

On June 5, law enforcement arrested DiCarlo at the local Middletown ShopRite after store staff reported she had taken nearly $550 worth of groceries without paying.

The incident unfolded around 5:15 p.m., as employees scrutinized surveillance video and approached DiCarlo in the parking lot. When asked to present a receipt, she was unable to do so, prompting them to call the police.

Footage from police body cameras, which was shared by the YouTube channel Transparency Bodycam, captured the tense moment. Employees informed officers that DiCarlo, visibly upset though silent, had previous incidents of alleged theft at the same ShopRite location.

In the video, a worker said she had gone through surveillance footage records and saw DiCarlo shoplifting at least once before while with her children.

‘She has a full cart. She has the kids with her, which I didn’t think she would do anything with the kids,’ the employee said.

Later in the video, she added: ‘I have a feeling we’re going to go back [and] it’s going to be a lot.’

The ShopRite staff later reported to police that DiCarlo had allegedly previously shoplifted from the location on May 8, May 17 and May 31.

The total value of the stolen goods during those trips was $1,940.20, police said. Adding on the $548.80 from the June 5 trip brought the total value of the allegedly stolen goods to $2,489.

The body camera video shows DiCarlo getting cuffed by Middletown Police Department Officer James Courtney and being driven by patrol car to the department’s headquarters.

The mother of five was charged with third-degree shoplifting, which is a felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $15,000 if convicted in New Jersey. DiCarlo was released pending a court appearance.

DiCarlo was previously arrested for shoplifting from a Target in Middletown in July 2023 and charged with fourth-degree shoplifting, according to court records reviewed by the Daily Mail. It appears she was not sentenced in the case.

She was also arrested for shoplifting once again just five days after the June 5 incident recorded on body camera footage, the court records show.

Her charges for both the June 5 and June 10 arrests are still pending. DiCarlo is scheduled to appear in Monmouth County Superior Court on September 24.

According to her social media, which DiCarlo has made private since the arrest, she recently gave birth to her fifth child.

In the body camera footage, an officer asks her if someone was taking care of her kids and she said yes. ‘I just have my son’s Christening Sunday,’ she added.

According to public records reviewed by the Daily Mail, DiCarlo currently lives in a 1,700 sq ft house estimated to be worth at least $750,000, according to realty site estimates.

As a New York City employee, the salary of DiCarlo’s husband, John DiCarlo, is public information. Records show that he earned $190,780 in 2025.

Revitalize Your Core: 5 Standing Exercises to Flatten Apron Belly After 50

0

Confronting apron belly after 50? Discover five standing exercises that promise to keep you active and strengthen your entire body.

>

Unlike typical belly fat, apron belly uniquely affects the way your clothes fit, the appearance of your lower abdomen, and how your midsection feels in motion. This condition remains closely linked to overall body composition, necessitating a workout routine that not only encourages fat loss but also sustains muscular strength.

While gym machines target isolated muscle groups effectively, combating apron belly requires engaging multiple muscles simultaneously. Standing exercises prove beneficial as they maintain your posture, invigorate your body from head to toe, and transform a brief workout into a more comprehensive session compared to sequentially using seated machines.

For clients aged 50 and above, the goal is repeatability in workouts. A session that exhausts someone for days is counterproductive to building momentum. Instead, a strategy of controlled intensity is ideal: exercises that elevate breathing, engage large muscle groups, and activate the core, without overly focusing on ab work alone.

The following five exercises incorporate standing strength, rotational movements, and low-impact conditioning to achieve these aims. Treat them as a circuit, prioritize maintaining form, and incrementally increase the difficulty as your fitness levels advance.

Unlikely Allies: Inside the Cockroach Janta Party’s Bold Fight for Change in India

0

In India, the start of the week was marked by intense clashes as a sea of protesters, demanding the resignation of the education minister, faced off with police while attempting to march toward parliament.

The confrontation turned chaotic as authorities dispersed the crowd using tear gas and batons after demonstrators tried to force their way through security barriers in the heart of New Delhi.

This disturbance signifies a major escalation in a youth-driven movement protesting against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration.

Identifying themselves as the Cockroach Janta Party, these activists sprang into the limelight online two months prior, fueled by outrage over alleged leaks on social media concerning India’s hyper-competitive college entrance exams.

The movement exemplifies how India’s young activists have reclaimed a derogatory term as a symbol of endurance, transforming it into a satirical political phenomenon that has gained millions of supporters.

A viral post about ‘cockroaches’

The movement began in May after India’s supreme court chief justice Surya Kant compared some unemployed young people to “cockroaches” and “parasites” during a hearing on another issue.

Abhijeet Dipke, a 30-year-old public relations graduate who was looking for work in the United States at the time, said he was “taken aback” by the comments made by Kant — who later said they were taken out of context.

Despite rapid economic growth, millions of people in the world’s most populous nation struggle to find stable and well-paying jobs, fuelling discontent.

“How can the custodian of the constitution compare the youth with cockroaches and parasites, just for expressing their opinions and criticising the system?” Dipke told Agence France-Presse (AFP).

A man speaking into two microphones and raising his hand in the air. A banner with a cockroach and "Cockroach Janta Party" is behind him.

Dipke then went online in May to air his frustrations, making a satirical post on X that said: “What if all cockroaches come together?”

He said he never intended to spark a student movement.

But the post went viral, driving Dipke to transform the idea into a parody platform that he named the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), playing on the name of the country’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

“Within two hours we got some 5,000 sign-ups on the Google form … and that made me realise — why not launch an official website and a manifesto?” Dipke said.

More than 30,000 people joined within 24 hours of its launch. It now has more than 23 million followers on its Instagram account, eclipsing the BJP’s by 14 million followers.

“That is when I realised maybe the youth here is trying to send a message,” he said.

Dipke said momentum for the movement has been largely driven by gen Z students in their 20s.

“They told me they are really dissatisfied with all the existing political parties, because nobody listens to them,” he said.

“There is some genuine frustration … not just a social media trend.”

What do Cockroach Janta Party supporters want?

The movement seeks the resignation of the education minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, over alleged leaks of examination papers, along with sweeping reforms to the examination system and compensation for families of students who died by suicide, whether over the leaks or exam results.

The protesters blame Pradhan for repeated failures in the education system, particularly in the conduct of India’s medical entrance examination.

Alleged irregularities, including a paper leak that forced a retake of the exam, have become a key reason for the mobilisation of CJP.

A student holds up a sign as she opens her mouth to shout a slogan with her eyes closed

For many young Indians, their future depends on a single entrance exam for government jobs and medical colleges.

Dipke said the movement’s online popularity has translated into growing support on the ground.

Since its first major demonstration in New Delhi in early June, he said, thousands of supporters have turned out at universities and rallies in other cities.

What began online has since spilled onto the streets, with CJP holding protests in different cities across the country last month.

Delhi University student, Anjali, 25, from the eastern state of Bihar, said the “protest might have started with a social media trend, some sort of sarcasm … but it has turned into a movement of rage”.

“A rage that has been accumulated in the youth for the past 10 years,” she added.

Ajay Zingade, a 33-year-old IT professional, said recurring exam paper leaks compelled him to join the protest despite no longer being a student.

“I am just exercising my fundamental right of dissent,” he said.

Organisers say the movement has grown into a broader campaign for accountability and restoration of trust in institutions that students believe have failed them, including the judiciary, the political system and the media.

“The system needs a complete overhaul because the current system is no longer accountable or even taking basic responsibility,” Dipke said.

A crowd try to push through yellow barricades with police personnel trying to push from the opposite side

But the government has neither opened negotiations nor publicly acknowledged the movement’s demands.

Senior leaders in Modi’s government have largely dismissed it, with the education minister accusing its members of working against the country. Other government leaders have argued that while students’ concerns deserve attention, there is no need for the government to negotiate with them.

“In a democracy, the government is supposed to listen to the people, to have a dialogue with the people, and more importantly to be answerable to the people. I don’t know why the government isn’t doing that,” Dipke said.

A person wearing a mask is seen amid smoke

Indian police fired tear gas on Monday to stop thousands of protesters from marching on parliament.

The demonstrators, mostly young students, converged at the Jantar Mantar protest site in the heart of New Delhi.

The area reverberated with the sound of tear gas shells fired at protesters, who responded by pelting stones.

Dozens of protesters and police personnel were injured in the clashes, witnesses said.

“Why is the police resorting to tear gas assault on peaceful protesters?” the CJP said in a post on X.

“First your govt ignored this protest for a month and now when we are peacefully marching your govt is attacking us. Why?”

Famous activist gives ‘cockroach’ cause a boost

Renowned Indian climate activist Sonam Wangchuk also joined the protests in solidarity, starting a fast on 28 June.

“It is our duty to raise our voice,” the 59-year-old told AFP.

“I hope that our government, the government of the largest democracy in the world, will be sensitive, sensible and responsive to the voices”.

A man lies on a white pillow with his hand on his forehead

On Saturday, New Delhi police forcibly moved Wangchuk to a hospital over health concerns after a 20-day hunger strike.

Wangchuk’s actions show how the protest has drawn professionals beyond the world of education.

High-profile attention is growing. Opposition leaders from several political parties and some Bollywood celebrities have visited the camp or lent support to the movement in recent days.

When asked about his ambitions, Dipke, who previously worked with the opposition Aam Aadmi Party as a communications strategist, stressed he does not intend to turn the movement into a political outfit.

“There is no point in making it a political party when the elections are fixed and the results are already pre-decided,” Dipke said.

For now, he said, the movement is here to stay and will continue to evolve around student anger, exam fraud and wider frustration with institutions.

“There is no shortage of issues in India that need to be addressed.”

Amy Fisher’s Son Charged in Heartbreaking Cat Killing Case: Police Investigate Shocking Microwave Connection

0

In a shocking twist linked to the infamous “Long Island Lolita” saga, the adult son of Amy Fisher and his girlfriend are now ensnared in a serious legal predicament. According to Florida court documents, they stand accused of felony animal-cruelty charges following the unsettling demise of their pet cat, Reaper.

Brett Anthony Bellera, 25, alongside Jennifer Armenti, 36, are facing charges of aggravated cruelty to animals. This comes after investigators ascertained that their beloved Brown-and-White tabby succumbed to “involuntary heat exposure.” These charges are filed as separate, yet related, cases.

A forensic veterinarian examined the incident, pointing out several grim possibilities including microwave radiation as a potential cause. Other causes considered were immersion in scalding water or exposure to steam from hot water, as detailed in the probable-cause affidavits obtained by news outlets.

The perplexing situation first came to light on December 15, 2024, when a friend of the couple reached out to Broward County Animal Care. The friend voiced concerns that Reaper had passed under circumstances that seemed suspiciously unnatural, sparking the ensuing investigation.

Armenti allegedly told investigators she had awakened that morning and found the cat dead on the bathroom floor. By the time animal-care employees arrived, however, Reaper’s body was outside on the apartment’s back patio.

Investigators found the cat inside a plastic laundry basket, saying that the cat was “stiff” and positioned unnaturally, with a large amount of blood pooled beneath the body.

Bellera allegedly told an officer that he and Armenti had gone to bed the previous night and discovered the cat dead the following morning. He suggested Reaper may have accidentally consumed cleaning products, according to his affidavit.

But a forensic necropsy conducted through the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals pointed investigators in a far darker direction.

A licensed veterinarian concluded that Reaper suffered fatal injuries caused by extreme heat. Microscopic tissue analysis allegedly indicated the exposure did not kill the cat immediately, meaning Reaper endured severe pain before dying, the affidavits say.

Bellera’s case was filed on June 3, 2026, and records show he was arrested the following day. Armenti was arrested later that month. Each posted a $25,000 bond, and both dockets reference electronic-monitoring or house-arrest agreements. Both have pleaded not guilty, and their cases remain active.

Bellera is Fisher’s eldest son with her former husband, retired NYPD officer Louis Bellera.

Fisher became one of the country’s most infamous tabloid figures after she shot Mary Jo Buttafuoco, the wife of her adult lover, outside the family’s Long Island, New York, home in 1992. Fisher, who was just 16 years old, was sent to prison for seven years for shooting Buttafuoco.

Dubbed the “Long Island Lolita,” Fisher first met Joey Buttafuoco when her father brought his car into the 35-year-old’s auto shop.

By 1992, Fisher had grown jealous of Buttafuoco’s wife, Mary Jo, and took it upon herself to eliminate her. Fisher went to Buttafuoco’s home, pretending to be her sister, and shot Mary Jo in the head in broad daylight.

Mary Jo survived, but she still has the bullet in her head.

There were numerous made-for-TV movies produced about the scandalous affair. One film even starred actress Drew Barrymore.

After serving seven years, Fisher was released and used her infamy to enter the world of adult entertainment. News Media has reached out to Bellera and Armenti’s attorneys for comment.

Aaron Rodgers Reconnects with Estranged Family, Strengthening Bonds After Years of Separation

0

Aaron Rodgers appears to be mending fences with his family.

The NFL star and potential Hall of Famer shared an Instagram post on Monday night showcasing a collection of photos with his relatives, notably featuring his mother, father, and one of his brothers. He accompanied the images with the caption, “another bonding week.”

For years, the strained relationship between Rodgers and his family has been under the microscope, often serving as a sensitive topic for the acclaimed quarterback.

Yet, recent developments suggest a shift in dynamics. Rodgers was seen beaming beside his mother, Darla, his father, Ed, and brother, Luke, in several of the candid snaps.

However, the absence of his younger brother Jordan from the family gathering was noticeable.

In one pic, Darla has her arms wrapped around Rodgers, while both smile from ear to ear.

Another shows him standing next to Ed.

In another photo, it shows Rodgers helping to assemble a toy presumably for Luke’s kids.

Rodgers has been estranged from his family for years now, dating as far back as 2016, when Jordan was on the “Bachelorette,” where the QB’s brother would meet his wife JoJo Fletcher.

It’s unclear when Rodgers and his family may have come to a détente, but the images show him in a much better place with them than years past.

Still, Jordan’s absence will lead many to believe that the fence-mending still has a ways to go between the two brothers.

Jordan was not invited to Rodgers’ wedding to Brittani, who has still not been seen publicly during the span of their relationship, the Daily Mail reported last summer, and the quarterback did not attend Jordan’s nuptials to Fletcher in 2022 despite an invite.

Rodgers has spoken about his strained relationship with Jordan in the past and about his brother’s appearance on the “Bachelorette.”

He even addressed it during his Netflix docuseries “Aaron Rodgers: Enigma.”

“It wasn’t like I was super duper close with everybody in the family,” Rodgers said. “But in actuality, it goes back to stuff from high school that kind of made me feel distant. Stuff in college, stuff post-college.”

He also criticized the way he was portrayed over the rift.

“What do they do? They go on a bulls–t show and leave two empty chairs,’ Rodgers said. “They all agreed this was a good thing to do, to leave two empty chairs at a stupid dating show that my brother just went on to get famous – his words, not mine – that he ended up winning.

“But a dinner that was during the season, I was never asked to go to. Not that I would’ve gone.”

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively Thrill Fans at World Cup Event Spectacle

While Blake Lively geared up for an in-person experience at the World Cup final, her husband, Ryan Reynolds, was immersed in business at New York City’s Fanatics Fest.

Hours ahead of the match kick-off, the 49-year-old Reynolds took center stage at the festival, discussing the famed Marvel persona he embodies. He later returned to join fans for a World Cup viewing party.

Though Lively, 38, was spotted catching the Spain versus Argentina game with her friends merely 16 miles away, it’s uncertain if she attended her husband’s fan encounter.

Representatives for the couple have been contacted by the Daily Mail seeking clarification, but there has been no response yet.

These events could signify their first public interactions after they were notably absent from Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding at Madison Square Garden, potentially tied to Lively’s ongoing legal skirmishes with Justin Baldoni.

At Fanatics Fest, Reynolds focused on his passions: The Wrexham co-owner discussed a fourth Deadpool movie and talked about Argentinian soccer sensation Lionel Messi.

‘There’s eventually, you know, remotely, another Deadpool film,’ he said during a panel entitled The Art of Deadpool with Ryan Reynolds..

He also weighed in on the new Deadpool trading cards – revealing he bought an autographed Hugh Jackman card that he was unable to read as it was written ‘in Australian.’

‘I did some bartering. I was looking for… autographed Deadpool Chrome cards. I got them. I didn’t get the double pack. That was like $50,000 or something, but I did get the one Hugh Jackman,’ he said.

‘It’s going in the personal collection,’ he continued when asked what type he got. ‘I don’t know which one it was, it was the chrome, which is beautiful, autographed… I can’t totally read the inscription that he wrote, he wrote it in Australian, so I don’t know what he’s talking about,’ he joked. ‘But lovely though.’

‘Deadpool’s got so many different verticals,’ he said. ‘It’s obviously major motion pictures. That’s a huge part of it. It’s the part that… changed my whole life. It’s a part that I still to this day feel is my mothership in a lot of ways. But it’s such an expansive universe.

‘There’s so many different places. We’ve seen Deadpool in animated form, in comic books, in obviously in the movies, and all these different things, and different iterations over so many years.

‘So many brilliant comic book artists who have reinterpreted the character in different ways for different runs and we wanted all of that represented in this collection by Topps.

‘So we wanted to feel like it was, yeah, you’re hitting stills and moments from the movies but they’re candids. They’re not necessarily ripped right out of the film.

‘They’re moments backstage, behind stage, all that kind of stuff, and then of course they’re moments from the movie, but also actual comic books, actual right out of the comic books, you have other pieces that are out of the anime and stuff. So I love that they cover all the basis.’

It appeared to be one of several appearances Reynolds made at the event.

He also appeared on stage for Men In Blazers’ World Cup Watch Party, where he discussed Lionel Messi’s work ethic.

‘Lionel Messi’s running off Aura right now,’ he said. ‘These are these guys that find this kind of extra gear. I remember seeing a short kind of video story about Lionel Messi working out on his birthday at the gym on his birthday.

‘People are kind of like, well he has no life. And I was like, no he doesn’t have a life. He’s Lionel f**king Messi.’

‘The guy’s a born competitor and he rises to the occasion. This is his sandbox right now.’

Given the Fanatics Fest was held 16 miles away from where the World Cup final was taking place held, it seems unlikely that Reynolds was able to make the match in time.

But his wife, 38, was there with her own ‘squad’ of friends – Libby Glazer, Kendall Arin Glazer, and Emma Gray – and she shared a smiling selfie to her Instagram showing herself posing with her pals.

Once BFFs, Lively’s absence from Swift’s wedding illustrated the painful toll her legal battle with Justin Baldoni took on her friendship with the Love Story singer.

The goddaughter to Lively’s three daughters, Swift reportedly fell out with the actress after she was dragged into her legal battle with Justin Baldoni.

A source has since informed the Daily Mail of Lively’s fury over her rejection, which has set a match to any chance she and Swift might mend fences in the future.

Lively is ‘sad and a little bit p***ed. No, a lot p***ed,’ said the insider. ‘That friendship was over before but if there was hope, it’s gone. They’ll never be friends again.’

The Gossip Girl star ‘wanted to go,’ the source noted. ‘It feels bad to be excluded like that. She had sort of hoped that despite everything, their history was enough that they’d be included, but that’s not the way it went.’

In the days after the wedding , Lively and Reynolds were seen enjoying an off-duty day in his native Canada.

Lively had previously sued Baldoni and his Wayfarer Studios production company in December 2024 for alleged defamation and sexual harassment on the set of It Ends With Us, which they starred in together, with Baldoni also directing.

Baldoni retaliated the following month with a $400 million defamation lawsuit against Lively, Reynolds and the New York Times, which had first published her claims.

All of the parties in the lawsuits denied the allegations against them.

In October 2025, a judge dismissed Baldoni’s case, and in May of this year, after a judge dismissed most of Lively’s claims, she agreed to settle the case.

Lively was not paid any money in the settlement, but Judge Lewis Liman, who presided over the case at a New York court, did allow her to seek legal fees solely related to Baldoni’s failed case against her.

Swift’s reported fallout with the actress happened after she was subpoenaed in the her lawsuit against Baldoni, before the subpoena was later withdrawn.

Swift, whose hit song My Tears Ricochet was featured on the soundtrack of Baldoni’s 2024 film It Ends With Us – where he starred alongside Lively – was pulled into the rollercoaster saga last year when Baldoni filed a $400 million countersuit accusing Lively and her husband of defamation. The suit was later thrown out.

Explosives text messages from Baldoni’s complaint revealed Lively had referred to the superstar singer and her husband as ‘my dragons’ in a bid to intimidate him over the ill-fated flick.

In January, a source told DailyMail.com: ‘Her friends also think that Blake’s “I’m Khaleesi, and like her, I happen to have dragons” text to Justin was uncool and unnecessary because she was essentially used as an intimidation tactic. She was referred to as some kind of pet or possession.’

Since then, Swift has reportedly been trying to distance herself from the scandal as well as her friendship with Lively.

Those efforts have included icing Lively out of her inner circle while Kelce unfollowed Reynolds on Instagram.

Swift and Lively have been friends for a decade, with the pair celebrating milestones together and the singer even name dropping Lively’s children in her music.

Sunny Hostin Defends Harvard Son in Trespassing Drama

“The View” co-host Sunny Hostin found herself in a tense situation recently when police stopped her son for trespassing on Metro-North railroad property. Newly released bodycam footage reveals Hostin repeatedly emphasizing her background as a former federal prosecutor while urging officers to go easy on her Harvard-educated son.

During a phone conversation captured in the bodycam video, Hostin introduces herself to an officer by saying, “My name is Sunny Hostin, and I’m one of the co-hosts of ‘The View,’ and I’m a former federal prosecutor,” as reported by News Media.

Upon reaching the scene, Hostin remained persistent in her plea for understanding.

The body camera footage shows Sunny Hostin engaging with MTA police officers, while her son, Gabriel Hostin, stands nearby following his stop for being on Metro-North railroad property without permission.

“That’s my son. He’s a Harvard graduate. He doesn’t have a criminal record,” Hostin asserts. “He’s not a troublemaker. This was just an innocent mistake,” she explains.

According to records obtained by News Media, Gabriel Hostin was stopped by Metropolitan Transportation Authority police shortly before 8 p.m. June 16 after officers observed him on the Metro-North railroad right-of-way at the New Rochelle station.

An MTA Police spokesperson told News Media the 23-year-old was observed running near an electrified third rail before officers stopped him near Commerce Drive, conducted a criminal background check and escorted him from the area.

Because Hostin had no criminal history and cooperated with officers, police said he was issued a summons for trespass and released.

The bodycam video shows Gabriel Hostin asking officers whether issuing the summons was necessary.

“Because it is an arrestable offense. I want to make that clear,” one officer tells him.

“We’re dimming it down to a trespass violation because you were in the right-of-way.”

The officer goes on to explain that police were taking his lack of criminal history into account.

“We know you’re not a criminal or anything like that, but our hands are tied with cameras everywhere,” the officer says.

Hostin again urged officers to exercise discretion.

“He’s a Harvard grad who teaches fourth-grade geometry to South Bronx kids,” she says. “He’s not a kid who’s ever in trouble. It’s an innocent mistake.”

According to charging documents obtained by News Media, an officer alleged he observed Gabriel Hostin on the active railroad right-of-way at the New Rochelle station “in violation of the posted NO TRESPASSING signs.”

The citation narrative similarly states officers observed him on the railroad right-of-way before conducting a warrant check that came back negative and issuing him an appearance ticket for trespass.

The records also include photographs of warning signs reading, “NO TRESPASSING – PRIVATE PROPERTY – VIOLATORS WILL BE PROSECUTED,” posted near the entrance to the property, along with photos of the gated access point.

According to court records, Gabriel Hostin is scheduled to appear in New Rochelle City Court on July 31.

In a letter obtained by TMZ, Hostin argued her son mistakenly entered the property while jogging after spotting what appeared to be a gravel incline suitable for hill training.

She said the entrance gate was open and that the only “No Trespassing” sign was attached to the left gate and was not visible when he entered.

The bodycam video also sparked reaction online, with several conservative accounts criticizing Hostin for invoking her legal background during the encounter.

Libs of TikTok contrasted Hostin’s past remarks that “no one is above the law” with her comments to officers that she was “a former federal prosecutor” and that her son was a Harvard graduate with no criminal record.

End Wokeness posted a similar critique, arguing the footage conflicted with Hostin’s previous public comments about equal treatment under the law.

News Media reached out to Hostin’s representatives for comment.

Sausalito City Manager’s Dramatic Ocean Adventure: A Voyage Unveiled

0

In a surprising turn of events, the newly appointed City Manager of Sausalito, Elaine Forbes, found herself under arrest by Marin County Sheriff’s deputies. Just days into her new role, Forbes was implicated in a felony burglary incident that unfolded at the Sausalito Yacht Harbor. Responding to a noise complaint, law enforcement discovered her on a 75-foot yacht that she did not own.

The allegations suggest that Forbes had boarded the yacht without the owner’s consent, proceeding to loudly blast the vessel’s horn for an extended duration, starting around 5:30 a.m.

The racket disrupted the slumber of nearby residents and sounded an unexpected alarm for city officials, bringing to light a sudden and significant personnel dilemma.

What makes this incident even more unusual is Forbes’s distinguished career trajectory; she is far from an amateur. Forbes has earned respect through her extensive work in nonprofits and senior positions within public administration.

Born and raised in San Francisco, Forbes holds a master’s degree in urban planning. Her career includes tenures at reputable institutions like the Urban Strategies Council, the Budget Analyst’s Office for the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, the Planning Department, and the San Francisco Airport. Her journey took a significant step forward in 2010 when she joined the Port of San Francisco, eventually becoming its executive director in 2016.

At the SF Port, she oversaw roughly 270 staff and miles of city waterfront, advancing major initiatives on sea-level rise resilience and post-pandemic recovery.

Colleagues praised her vision — until the plot twist arrived.

Last September, Forbes announced that she was stepping down from the SF Port, citing the demanding nature of leading a complex public enterprise. Fair enough.

Fast-forward to May 2026. The city of Sausalito selected her as its next city manager, a $275,000 annual role, to start July 1.

Running Sausalito can’t be easy, but it’s a little more laid back. Forbes must have seemed like a good fit to everyone, including herself.

But on Saturday, July 18 — not even three weeks later — yacht captain Bill Aubrey found Forbes inside a boat’s wheelhouse after she had locked herself in.

And of course, as we now know, it was not her yacht.

He described her demeanor as “normal, friendly,” and not disheveled; she “wasn’t staggering,” though the previously full bottles of Grey Goose vodka and tequila were now empty.

The sheriff’s deputies, who had been searching for Forbes for four days following a missing-persons report, noted that she had initially claimed the vessel was hers, and said she was having “a bad morning.” There was no apparent damage or theft.

Just days before her arrest, following a closed-session City Council meeting, Sausalito placed her on administrative leave through Sept. 8 and appointed an acting manager.

Why? We don’t know, and the city has kept its reasons under wraps, citing privacy interests.

But the timing — mere days before the yacht incident — raises questions about whether there had already been problems with Forbes’ performance or behavior during her short tenure.

Notably, Forbes’ long-term relationship with Angela Calvillo, clerk of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, ended in October 2024. Personal turmoil can lead to professional stress.

In a statement after Forbes’ arrest, a spokesperson for the family said, “Elaine is experiencing a mental health crisis. “We ask that no one rush to judgment based on limited information.”

Mental health challenges deserve compassion and should not automatically disqualify individuals from service, particularly when supported by appropriate treatment.

At the same time, when an official in a position of public trust faces criminal allegations tied to erratic behavior, we have to ask whether she was honest during the hiring process.

We also have to ask whether the elected leaders who hired Forbes did a thorough job of vetting her.

Forbes’ situation may not be unique. San Francisco Board of Supervisors member Jackie Fielder only just returned to work after taking time off for mental health reasons.

These are delicate situations. Even public officials are entitled to some personal privacy, but their needs have to be balanced against residents’ interest in capable leadership.

Trump Escalates Trade Tensions with Stunning 50% Tariffs on Canada

0

On Monday, Donald Trump reignited trade tensions with Canada by imposing a hefty 50 percent tariff on a wide array of Canadian goods exported to the United States.

According to a White House fact sheet, these tariffs will be implemented in 30 days, affecting a diverse range of Canadian products. The list spans from wine and hockey sticks to cement, highlighting the breadth of the trade measures.

An official noted that Trump has tasked his team with exploring further tariffs on Canadian goods. This directive arises from concerns over Canadian wildfires degrading air quality across the northern U.S., with Trump alleging these fires are “poisoning our air.”

This move follows Trump’s assertion that Canada engages in unfair trading practices, particularly against American-made automobiles, alcohol, and dairy products.

Interestingly, Trump did not address these tariff issues with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney when the two leaders met at the World Cup final on Sunday, a public appearance that suggested camaraderie rather than conflict.

The move could unleash a new wave of economic chaos, with risks of higher inflation and further fraying of relations between two nations that had been closely woven together before Trump’s return to the White House.

The administration official previewing the action said that Canada was one of the only nations other than China that retaliated against Trump’s previous tariffs and must be held accountable.

The official insisted on anonymity on a call with reporters to preview the president’s actions and said that Trump signed three proclamations to launch the tariffs under Section 338 of the 1930 Trade Act.

Several Democratic lawmakers last year proposed repealing the section because they said Trump could use it to destabilize the economy.

The 50 percent tariffs would exclude energy products, potash, fish and critical minerals, but they would include goods that had previously been protected from import taxes by the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, or USMCA.

That 2020 trade pact recently expired and triggered a new set of negotiations that could run until 2036.

‘Canada believes in the benefits of free and fair trade, as evidenced by our new government signing more than 20 new economic and security partnerships,’ Carney said in a statement.

‘This trade dispute has raised costs for families, particularly in the U.S. Canada stands ready to engage intensively to address outstanding issues with the U.S. to the mutual benefit of our citizens,’ he added.

‘In all circumstances, Canada will work relentlessly and take any measures necessary to build our strength at home and to support Canadian workers, farmers, businesses, and families.’

Ontario Premier Doug Ford saw a possible showdown ahead.

‘If these tariffs proceed, Canada should respond tariff for tariff, dollar for dollar,’ Ford posted on social media.

Recently, Trump has also been demanding Canada and Carney pay ‘damages’ after wildfires spread down into America.

Trump announced Sunday night that he had spoken with the prime minister about the wildfires in Ontario that have caused massive plumes of smoke to blanket cities across the States.

The President said the conversation at the World Cup final went well, ‘But I told him, ‘You’ve got to stop these fires from coming in and poisoning our air.’ Our air’s being poisoned.

‘I have a good relationship with Mark Carney, but you know, we got to stop the fires up there,’ Trump said.

‘If we can help them, we’ll help them – but maybe they should pay us some damages or something, or [we] should do some tariffs,’ he then threatened.

Trump went on to call the smoke ‘terrible,’ specifically pointing out the situation in Detroit, Michigan, where assembly line workers at Ford Motor’s Michigan Assembly Plant were sent by ambulance to nearby hospitals on Thursday, according to the Detroit Free Press.

But the poor air quality was felt in other parts of the country as well, with smoky conditions being felt in Washington, DC and New York City on Thursday evening.

Trump himself likely experienced the smoky conditions in the capital and while traveling to New York City for a work dinner on Friday evening, as the National Weather Service issued air quality alerts in at least 16 states.

The President then made his first threat to impose tariffs on the US’s northern neighbor that day.

‘We are holding Canada responsible for the fact that they are not properly maintaining their forests and brush,’ he wrote on Truth Social Friday.

The US is being ‘invaded by filthy, polluted, and unhealthy air, the quality of which is dangerous, and totally unacceptable,’ Trump added.

He vowed to call Carney to demand answers, claiming that the ‘cost is incalculable.’

‘This is willful negligence, and becoming a yearly occurrence, costing the United States billions of dollars, which cost of this pollution must of necessity be added to the tariffs Canada is currently paying,’ Trump said.

At the World Cup final on Sunday, Trump watched the game with Carney, who has openly challenged the US president and has sought to expand Canada’s trade relations with other nations.

The Trump administration official said their time together at the game was not a working visit to discuss trade and tariffs.

Trump claims in the proclamations that Canada discriminates against American autos, alcohol and cheese relative to other nations, but his argument rests in large part on retaliatory actions taken by Canada after the US president imposed tariffs on Canada under the pretext that it should do more to stop fentanyl smuggling.

Trump noted in his autos proclamation that Canada maintained, starting in April 2025, a 25 percent tariff on the imports of US motor vehicles that did not qualify for preferential treatment under the USMCA.

His proclamation on alcohol notes that Canadian provinces and territories halted the purchase and retailing of American alcoholic beverages last year, which was also a response to Trump’s tariffs and taunts of making Canada the 51st state.

But Trump has long objected to Canada’s treatment of US cheese, saying in his proclamation that Canada discriminates against the US compared to Europe on dairy products.

Trump and Carney have had a frosty relationship, with Carney, a former central banker, winning the premiership last year by promising to stand up for Canada.

At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland in January, Carney called out Trump — without naming him — by saying that the ‘most powerful’ countries are using the economy to coerce less powerful nations.

Trump responded at the time by saying: ‘Canada lives because of the United States.’
