Exciting Updates Unveiled: Transformative Changes at Central IL Senior Living Facility

MONTICELLO, Ill. (WCIA) — Roughly six weeks have passed since WCIA initially unveiled the issues plaguing employees at several memory care facilities in Central Illinois, who reported not receiving their paychecks on time. In response, the organization behind these facilities is undergoing a reorganization of its operations.

Back in May, WCIA brought to light the concerns of employees at Shepherd Premier Senior Living, which had acquired three locations in November, including facilities in Monticello and Charleston. Shortly after Shepherd Premier assumed control, a troubling pattern of delayed paychecks emerged, persisting into June when WCIA revisited the story.

However, a significant shift is on the horizon. Shepherd Premier announced in a news release shared with WCIA on Wednesday evening that they plan to “transition operations” for their living and memory care homes in Charleston, Robinson, and Monticello. This change will see the operational management of these facilities return to the original ownership, set to take effect on July 1, 2026.

According to officials, this decision was driven by a commitment to prioritize the wellbeing of the residents in these facilities.

“Residents come first. That is not a slogan for us — it is the rule that makes every other decision,” said Brandon Schwab, Founder and CEO of Shepherd Premier Senior Living. “We will not operate a home where we cannot meet the standard our residents and their families deserve. This transition ensures continuity of care, staffing, and daily routines while we maintain our commitment to the residents of these communities.”

Shepherd Premier added that has notified the Illinois Department of Public Health and the homes’ ownership (Arbor Rose) to “maintain continuity of care, staffing, and daily routines.” Residents and family are being contacted directly.

“Out of respect for the privacy of residents and families, SPSL will not discuss specific details of its commercial arrangement with the homes’ ownership and remains focused on a smooth, safe
transition,” Shepherd Premier added in its news release about the transition.

Tragic Accident Claims Lives of Eight Monks in Thailand as Truck Driven by 11-Year-Old Crashes into Pilgrimage Group

In northeastern Thailand, a tragic incident occurred on Thursday when an 11-year-old boy drove a pickup truck into a cluster of monks engaged in a pilgrimage. The crash resulted in the deaths of eight individuals, according to official sources.

The pilgrimage involved 35 monks from Mukdahan province, positioned roughly 600 kilometers from Bangkok. They had embarked on a spiritual journey across the region.

Mukdahan’s Governor, Worrayan Boonnarat, reported that five monks lost their lives instantly at the scene, while three more succumbed to their injuries in the hospital.

Additionally, fourteen other monks sustained injuries and were admitted to the hospital, with four listed in critical condition.

This expedition began only half an hour prior to the accident, covering a 260-kilometer path from Mukdahan to Ubon Ratchathani province.

Security camera footage shared by a local rescue group, Ruam Jai Mukdahan Rescue Association, shows the monks walking in a single line on the side of a road before the truck crashes into them.

Local police said the boy is now in custody and will be questioned when state child protection officers arrive.

The police said the cause of the accident is still under investigation, but said they were told by the monks that they saw the vehicle swerving before it slid off the road and crashed into the group.

Heatwave Alert: Scorching Temperatures Predicted for Fourth of July Weekend

SAVANNAH, Ga () – Good morning! This is StormTeam 3 Meteorologist Alysa Carsley, wishing you a fantastic Thursday!

Today kicked off with temperatures ranging from the upper 60s to the low 70s. Underneath a blend of sunshine and clouds, the temperatures will climb to a seasonally warm zone, reaching the low to mid 90s. The weather will echo yesterday’s conditions, being hot yet less humid compared to earlier this week, thanks to high pressure ushering in drier air and lowering the dewpoints. It’s anticipated to stay dry as well.

As we wrap up the work week and head into the holiday weekend, expect temperatures to escalate into the mid to upper 90s. While mostly dry conditions will prevail, the high pressure system will slowly drift off the East Coast. During the afternoon, the heat index could hit triple digits, soaring up to 105°.

This 4th of July could be as sizzling as the fireworks with record-challenging temperatures! The historic high for Independence Day in Savannah stands at 99°, noted in 1931, 1954, 1979, and 1997. We’re forecasting highs in the upper 90s, with heat index readings hovering between 105-110°. It’s crucial to stay hydrated and find ways to keep cool!

A few afternoon storms might come with strong gusty winds. However, by Saturday evening, when it’s time for fireworks, the storms should taper off. Post-sunset, temperatures will dip into the low 80s, although it will remain humid with a heat index in the lower 90s.

Starting Sunday through next week, hit-or-miss storms will be back in the forecast with high temperatures in the mid 90s.

Vulnerable Zones Pose Major Security Concerns for America 250 Fourth of July Celebrations

As America prepares to commemorate its 250th anniversary this weekend, security agencies are on high alert for potential threats targeting Independence Day festivities and parade attendees.

This vigilance extends to the Salute to America 250 Celebration and Fireworks in Washington, D.C., touted by the White House as “one of the most magnificent expressions of patriotism ever witnessed in the world.”

An anticipated audience of over a million is expected to converge on the National Mall, eager to hear President Donald Trump’s address and witness “the largest pyrotechnic display in history,” as per the White House.

Jason Pack, a retired supervisory special agent with the FBI, told News Media agencies have likely been preparing and coordinating for the event for weeks, if not months.

“It’s a whole of government approach, not just one agency,” Pack said. “That’s really important because that’s how in the past [threats] were stovepiped and could have gotten missed.”

He said he has not heard of any specific threats, but anything is possible.

“Given it’s the Fourth of July, which is a holiday that’s so special to the country, there’s no doubt that someone would want to,” Pack said.

While there will be heightened security in our nation’s capital with millions of spectators expected to descend on D.C., experts say it’s important to understand that smaller-scale events will also likely have amplified security.

Recall in 2022, a mass shooter opened fire on July Fourth parade-goers in Highland Park, Illinois.

Robert Crimo III was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole after court documents say he climbed on a roof above the parade and opened fire on spectators with a an assault rifle; seven people were killed and 48 others injured .

Fox News Contributor and former NYPD Legal Bureau Commanding Officer Paul Mauro told News Media that it’s imperative for local law enforcement to have safeguards in place to prevent tragedies.

Mauro urged small cities and governments to communicate with larger agencies.

He said, “Don’t be afraid to ask the FBI office. Don’t be afraid to talk to Homeland Security. They’re there for that. Everybody is hyper aware of the fact that this is an iconic anniversary.”

Mauro also said mass shootings are not the only risk to public safety.

In 2021, in Waukesha, Wisconsin, Darrell Edward Brooks Jr. drove an SUV into crowds of people at the Waukesha Christmas parade. Six people were killed and more than 60 others were injured.

Brooks Jr. is currently serving six consecutive life sentences. Mauro said that small towns, like Waukesha, and their police departments need to accept that terrorist attacks or similar incidents could happen in their communities.

He said the first step in preparing for such threats is acknowledging the possibility, rather than assuming “it could never happen here.”

Once agencies recognize the risk, they can begin implementing appropriate security and preparedness measures.

Another example of attack by vehicle-ramming during a community celebration happened in 2017.

Sayfullo Saipov from Uzbekistan killed eight people and injured nearly 20 more when he rammed a truck into crowds of people at a Halloween parade in New York City. His devotion to ISIS was his alleged motive, the DOJ said; he’s currently serving eight life sentences in federal prison.

While the truck ramming resulted in those eight lives lost, Mauro said the attack could have resulted in significantly more deaths.

He said that while serving in the NYPD Intelligence Bureau’s counterterrorism unit, officials anticipated the possible vehicle-ramming attack. As a result, they hardened vulnerable parade routes by placing sanitation trucks and other heavy vehicles as barriers.

Saipov, who had rented a truck and planned to target a Manhattan parade, found the route blocked by these barriers and abandoned that plan. Instead, Mauro said, he drove along the West Side Highway in New York City, where he carried out a vehicle attack before being stopped after crashing into a school bus.

Mauro argued that because the attacker had no prior criminal or intelligence indicators, he was difficult to detect in advance.

He concluded that acknowledging the threat and implementing physical security measures prevented a much deadlier attack at the parade.

Saipov is accused of killing eight people and injuring 12 in lower Manhattan on Oct. 31.

Looking ahead, one way that federal agencies and local police work together to thwart premeditated or organized attacks comes from the help of fusion centers, Pack said.

“Fusion centers” are located in various cities and larger urban areas “for the receipt, analysis, gathering and sharing of threat-related information between State, Local, Tribal and Territorial (SLTT), federal and private sector partners,” according to Homeland Security.

Police Report: Infant Found Deceased After Being Left Unattended During Mother’s Work Hours

An Alabama mother now faces charges of child abuse after a heartbreaking discovery. Police allege that she left her infant son unattended at home while she went to work, and tragically returned to find him deceased.

Mom allegedly left baby home alone

Ja’Keisa Knox, 29, remains in custody at the Tuscaloosa County Jail following her arrest on Tuesday. That day, she encountered an unimaginable tragedy: her 9-month-old son was found lifeless in their home. According to WBRC, a local Fox affiliate, Knox called the police at 4 p.m. on Tuesday after discovering her baby unresponsive upon returning from work—a discovery that unraveled the distressing series of events.

In conversations with deputies from the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, Knox reportedly admitted that she had left her apartment at 8 a.m. This timeline suggests the baby was alone for approximately eight hours. Authorities confirmed that Knox claimed to be the child’s sole guardian, and no one else was assigned the responsibility of caring for him during her absence.

The incident took place in a neighborhood that now bears a spotlight due to this tragic event. This brings a somber note to the Tuscaloosa, Alabama area, visualized in part by the imagery of local landscapes juxtaposed with Knox’s booking photo from the sheriff’s office.

Knox reportedly told deputies with the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office that she left her apartment at 8 a.m., indicating that the baby was allegedly alone in the home for eight hours. According to police, Knox confirmed she was the sole guardian of the baby, and no one else was expected to come care for him while she was gone.

Tuscaloosa News reported that the baby was brought to DCH Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Medical staff at the hospital told police that they observed several injuries on the boy, who was also malnourished and underweight. The discovery prompted a call to the sheriff’s Violent Crimes Unit, which is also participating in the baby’s death investigation.

Knox was charged with child abuse, and authorities said additional charges may be added depending on the results of the baby’s autopsy. She is being held at the Tuscaloosa County Jail without bond. Her next court date was not immediately available.

GOP Unveils Strategic Midterm Convention to Bolster Republican Campaigns

0

In a move stirring political excitement, President Donald Trump has declared that the Republican Party will stage its inaugural midterm convention this year in the vibrant city of Dallas, Texas.

The convention will gather stalwarts who are propelling the nation’s prosperity — from enterprising innovators and manufacturers to dedicated first responders and job creators. This celebration, bursting with entertainment, aspires to be a rally unlike any other. As the 250th anniversary of America approaches, this gathering aims to lay the groundwork for the next quarter-millennium of American triumph. On September 9th and 10th, Dallas will become the heart of national celebration, honoring American achievements and future prospects. President Trump proclaims confidently, “THE GOLDEN AGE OF AMERICA HAS ONLY JUST BEGUN!”

Although the GOP has never before convened such a midterm event, it’s noteworthy that the Democrats ventured into similar territory with three of their own conventions in the 1970s and 80s.

The driving force behind this Republican midterm convention is a strategic push to retain control of the House in the upcoming 2026 elections. Presently, the Republican Party holds a slim 218-plus-one (nominal independent) majority over the 212 Democrats, with four current vacancies adding complexity to the equation. Assuming the GOP secures one vacant seat, their margin remains delicate, allowing only a net loss of two seats. Historically, gaining seats during midterms is rare, as the president’s party has only achieved this feat twice in recent history.

President Trump’s approval ratings, as averaged by Real Clear Politics, stand at a tentative 40.7 percent, with a 57.4 percent disapproval rate. While this does indicate a slight improvement from previous metrics, it remains below the critical 43 percent threshold. Nevertheless, Democrats hold just a 5.6 percent lead in generic congressional vote polls, a margin not indicative of a sweeping “blue wave.” Moreover, recent trends show Republicans performing more robustly in generic ballot polling, infusing the party with a sense of cautious optimism.

Gainesville Resident Arrested in Alleged Vehicle Assault Over Parking Space Dispute

By the Editorial Staff

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A 40-year-old woman, Candice Renee Collier, faces charges following her arrest yesterday. She allegedly drove her car toward a neighbor amid an argument over a coveted parking spot.

The incident unfolded around 11:10 a.m. on June 30. An Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy was called to Holly Heights, where a woman reported a confrontation with Collier. According to the victim, she asked Collier to relocate one of her numerous vehicles—some reportedly non-operational—to make room.

A dispute erupted between the neighbors over the parking arrangement. The victim claimed that during the argument, Collier climbed into a gray SUV, reversed it from its grassy spot, then drove it forward and right, heading directly toward her. She recounted to authorities that she had to leap out of the SUV’s path to evade being struck.

Officials noted that the event was captured by a doorbell camera, providing video evidence of the tense moment.

Post Miranda, Collier reportedly said she drove toward the victim in self-defense because the victim said she would beat her up.

Collier has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. She has no criminal convictions, but previous charges of aggravated stalking (2021), hit and run (2021) and battery (2024) were dropped. Collier posted bail of $5,000 before attending a First Appearance hearing.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Transform Your Posture After 60: Discover 6 Morning Exercises Faster Than Pilates

Combat rounded shoulders after 60 with these six morning exercises designed to help you stand taller.

>

Achieving poor posture is rarely the result of a night’s rest. Years of sitting, peering at phones, driving, and mundane daily habits gradually pull the shoulders forward, weakening the muscles that keep our spines erect. Many clients I’ve worked with assume that rounded shoulders and stooped posture are inevitable with age. However, it’s often muscle weakness, not aging itself, to blame—and that’s something you can change.

While stretching has benefits and Pilates offers superb mobility exercises, maintaining good posture hinges on strength just as much as it does on flexibility. The muscles in your upper back, shoulders, core, glutes, and neck collaboratively work to keep your body aligned all day. Strengthening these muscles makes standing tall a natural habit rather than a conscious effort. Therefore, I advise my clients to start their mornings by activating the muscles crucial for posture rather than merely stretching tight areas.

Having coached adults over 60 for several years, I’ve observed that the ones with the best posture don’t spend hours working out. They regularly perform a few simple strength exercises that reinforce healthy movement patterns each day. These six exercises are designed to invigorate the muscles supporting your spine, enhance shoulder alignment, and help you stand taller right at the start of your day. Commit to these exercises for a few weeks, and you’ll likely find improved posture without the constant need to remind yourself to “sit up straight.”

Wall Angels

Whenever someone walks into my gym with rounded shoulders, wall angels almost always become part of their program. This movement strengthens the muscles between the shoulder blades while improving shoulder mobility and encouraging proper alignment through the upper back. Many adults discover they have difficulty keeping their arms against the wall at first, which immediately highlights where mobility and strength have declined. With regular practice, the movement becomes smoother as the upper back grows stronger and posture begins improving naturally. I appreciate this exercise because it teaches the body what proper alignment actually feels like.

How to Do It

  • Stand with your back against a wall.
  • Keep your head, shoulders, and hips touching the wall.
  • Raise your arms into a goalpost position.
  • Slide your arms overhead slowly.
  • Return to the starting position.
  • Complete 10 to 12 repetitions.

5 Morning Exercises That Improve Balance Faster Than Yoga After 60

Resistance Band Pull-Aparts

Weak upper-back muscles often allow the shoulders to drift forward throughout the day. Resistance band pull-aparts directly strengthen those muscles while encouraging better shoulder positioning and scapular control. I frequently recommend them because they counteract hours of sitting better than almost any other simple movement. Clients often notice their shoulders resting farther back after just a few weeks of consistent practice. Stronger muscles between the shoulder blades make maintaining good posture feel effortless instead of exhausting.

How to Do It

  • Hold a resistance band at shoulder height.
  • Keep your arms nearly straight.
  • Pull the band apart.
  • Squeeze your shoulder blades together.
  • Return slowly.
  • Perform 12 to 15 repetitions.

Bird Dog

Strong posture begins with a stable core, not just the muscles you see in the mirror. Bird dogs challenge the deep stabilizers of the spine while strengthening the glutes, shoulders, and back simultaneously. I often tell clients that this exercise teaches the body to resist unwanted movement, which carries over into standing, walking, and lifting throughout the day. Although it looks simple, maintaining balance while extending opposite limbs demands full-body coordination. That combination makes it one of my favorite morning exercises for improving posture from the inside out.

How to Do It

  • Start on your hands and knees.
  • Extend your right arm and left leg.
  • Hold briefly.
  • Return with control.
  • Alternate sides.
  • Perform 10 repetitions per side.

Over 50? If You Can Perform These 5 Core Moves, You’re in Good Shape

Chin Tucks

Forward head posture has become incredibly common, especially among adults who spend hours reading, using computers, or looking at phones. Chin tucks strengthen the deep neck muscles responsible for supporting proper head alignment without placing strain on the cervical spine. I introduce this movement early because improving head position immediately benefits the entire posture chain. Clients frequently report less neck tension and better awareness of their posture after adding chin tucks to their morning routine. Small adjustments often produce significant improvements over time.

How to Do It

  • Stand or sit tall.
  • Look straight ahead.
  • Pull your chin straight back.
  • Avoid tipping your head up or down.
  • Hold for 3 to 5 seconds.
  • Repeat 10 to 15 times.

Glute Bridge

Many people don’t associate strong glutes with better posture, but they play a major role in supporting the pelvis and lower back. Weak glutes often contribute to poor standing mechanics and excessive strain throughout the spine. I include glute bridges because they strengthen the hips while encouraging proper alignment through the core and pelvis. Clients often notice they stand taller and walk more comfortably once these muscles become stronger. Building strength from the ground up creates lasting improvements in posture.

How to Do It

  • Lie on your back with knees bent.
  • Keep your feet flat on the floor.
  • Tighten your core.
  • Lift your hips until your body forms a straight line.
  • Lower slowly.
  • Perform 12 to 15 repetitions.

4 Wall Exercises That Restore Leg Strength Faster Than Yoga After 60

Standing Rows with Resistance Band

I like finishing posture routines with a movement that reinforces everything the upper back should be doing throughout the day. Standing rows strengthen the rhomboids, rear shoulders, and middle trapezius while encouraging healthy shoulder positioning. Every repetition reinforces the habit of pulling the shoulders back rather than allowing them to round forward. Many clients tell me they feel taller and more confident immediately after completing a set. Strong pulling muscles form the foundation of lasting posture improvements.

How to Do It

  • Secure a resistance band in front of you.
  • Hold one handle in each hand.
  • Pull your elbows straight back.
  • Squeeze your shoulder blades together.
  • Return slowly with control.
  • Complete 12 to 15 repetitions.
