Prince Harry Determined to Bring Archie and Lilibet to the UK: Exploring Every Possibility

0

Today, Prince Harry committed to pursuing “every available option” to ensure his wife and children can join him in the UK next month. A source close to the prince described the denial of round-the-clock police protection for his family as “bizarre.”

Currently vacationing in Europe with their children, Archie and Lilibet, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are amid plans to visit the UK in July, which have turned into what some insiders call a “total farce.”

Prince Harry is scheduled to be in the UK early next month to kickstart preparations for the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham. He had hoped that Meghan and their two children would accompany him on this trip.

The itinerary for their visit was to include a meeting with King Charles and a significant visit to Althorp Estate in Northamptonshire, the final resting place of Harry’s mother, Princess Diana.

Archie and Lilibet have not had the opportunity to see their grandfather since their last visit to Britain in June 2022, which was for the celebrations of Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee.

However, Harry is said to be furious that his request for a review of their police protection was turned down ‘at the 11th hour’. He is reported to blame his father’s aides – the so-called ‘men in grey suits’ – with whom relations remain strained.

A source close to Harry has described the decision as ‘bizarre’, insisting it was wrong to deny full armed protection to the son of the monarch, who is fifth in line to the throne, with Archie and Lili sixth and seventh.

In a statement on Monday, his spokesman said Harry wants his family to have ‘the opportunity to enjoy the UK’ – but not without ‘proportionate protective security’.

‘The Duke continues to explore every available option to enable the visit to proceed safely and to give his children the opportunity to enjoy the UK,’ the statement said.

In a nod to the King’s offer of a royal palace as a base for their Invictus trip, which has yet to be accepted, the spokesman added: ‘Safe accommodation is only one element of an effective protective security plan because risk follows the person, not the place.

‘The issue has never been accommodation. The issue is whether appropriate and proportionate protective security is being provided throughout the entirety of the visit.’

‘The independent Risk Management Board that Ravec itself decided was necessary last November has still not taken place.

‘It is therefore difficult to understand how the proportionality of the current arrangements can credibly be maintained without that independent assessment.’

The Sussexes are believed to be at their £6.3million holiday home in Portugal, with the Duke now reconsidering bringing his wife and children to Britain after learning they will not receive 24/7 police protection.

On Friday they were all set to come – within 24 hours the plan was being reconsidered by Harry.

It is understood that the Sussexes’ programme remains the same, for now.

An insider close to Harry has blamed ‘those around the King’ who sit on the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec), which decides security arrangements for VIPs.

There was also criticism that ‘celebrities like Taylor Swift’ receive ‘state-funded security’ – unlike the Sussexes. The singer was given a police escort in London two years ago after a terror attack on one of her shows was foiled in Europe.

The source told ITV News that they believe that Harry is not being offered a security review for the July trip because a third of Ravec is drawn from Buckingham Palace and Prince William’s office.

A royal insider told the Daily Mail that the Sussexes’ trip was fast becoming an ‘unwelcome mess’ for both Harry and the King.

‘Harry really wants his children to see their grandpa. It’s not clear how keen the King is to see them if it involves all these theatrics,’ the insider said.

‘Unfortunately, what should have been a chance to build bridges has led to more mistrust on both sides,’ the insider said.

‘Harry is furious that the King’s aides leaked plans for the Sussex family to stay at Buckingham Palace for part of the visit. He feels that has endangered his family because, while they are protected by the security cordon when they are inside the palace, they are vulnerable as soon as they leave it.

‘At least when they were living at Frogmore Cottage there were several exits from the Windsor estate that made it more difficult for them to be spotted and followed. But of course, they were evicted from there to punish them for quitting.

‘Harry is now looking at alternative royal accommodation for part of the stay as well as somewhere else that is privately owned.’

On Friday, Harry’s team had released details of the itinerary for the five-day visit next month – but within 24 hours he had changed his mind following another row over his security.

‘Their plans to see family… and visit charitable causes close to the Duke’s heart have been pulled out from under their feet at the 11th hour. He’s looking at every option to get the family here safely,’ a second source said.

Harry is said to be ‘desperate’ for Archie and Lilibet to see their grandfather, with one option being considered to fly them in and out of Britain in a single day from Europe, where they are on holiday.

The family are likely to be in Portugal, although their exact location has not been confirmed.

Meghan is reported to have enlisted Soho House designers to recreate the brand’s signature style at the Portuguese villa the couple bought for £6.3million in 2023.

Harry and Meghan are thought to be staying at their holiday home at the ultra-exclusive CostaTerra Golf and Ocean Club in Melides.

The private estate is also home for part of the year to Harry’s cousin Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank, who are close to the Sussexes and have two young children, with a third on the way.

The Daily Mail’s Royal Editor Rebecca English said last night that Buckingham Palace’s patience with the Sussexes – and the constant psychodrama surrounding them – is being pushed to its limits.

The Palace offered them the use of a royal residence, but this has not been accepted with only a few days to go.

A source told her: ‘For the sake of family harmony, the Palace would have been perfectly happy with a peaceful and low-key visit. Yet, once again, they have turned it into a soap opera. It’s tiresome.’

King Charles is said to be pragmatic and unlikely to reject any overture to meet his grandchildren discreetly for the sake of family harmony. However, recent events are making that increasingly difficult.

Insiders say the King would be deeply dismayed if the meeting no longer goes ahead.

And the Duke himself had been described as ‘desperate’ for Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, to see their grandfather.

One source told The Mail on Sunday: ‘On Friday night the Sussex office issued an op [operational] note saying that the full family would be coming to the UK and they had accepted royal accommodation. Next day they pull out.

‘It’s a total joke and a farce. They are totally playing into the hands of those who say they court drama like this to sell Meghan’s jam.’

Harry has long argued that security concerns have prevented him bringing his family to Britain after his taxpayer-funded protection changed

Harry has long argued that security concerns have prevented him bringing his family to Britain after his taxpayer-funded protection changed

While the children are not expected to attend any public events, the Duchess was scheduled to join her husband on visits to Royal Hospital Chelsea and an Invictus event in Birmingham.

Details of the trip were announced on Friday evening.

But shortly afterwards, according to reports, the Duke was told that his application for security for the visit had been denied.

The King’s estranged son was stripped of his 24-hour, taxpayer-funded armed guard on visits to the UK after he quit royal duties and moved to the US in search of a lucrative commercial career.

He then lost a High Court appeal over the move, which he vehemently criticised as an ‘establishment stitch-up’.

But it then emerged that the Home Office, via its risk management board Ravec, had ordered a reassessment of his situation.

However, the Duke was told last week that the review had not taken place and had in fact been ‘paused’.

It means his family’s taxpayer-funded protection in the UK does not extend beyond royal residences. The Sussexes do, however, travel with their own bodyguards.

On Saturday, a source close to the California-based Duke and Duchess accused the Home Office of ‘wilfully creating conditions that are making it nearly impossible’ for them to move around Britain.

Since quitting royal duties to move abroad in 2020, Harry has not been given police protection for anything other than official royal occasions, such as Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.

Normally he must provide 28 days’ notice of plans to visit Britain, with security decided on a case-by-case basis.

King Charles last saw his grandchildren in 2022, when the Sussexes were in Britain for Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee.

The family celebrated Lilibet’s first birthday together at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.

A source said: ‘The precarious security situation and endless speculation about where the family will stay is making the planning and logistics for the private security team increasingly difficult.

‘There have been three separate incidents in the UK in less than 12 months that we know of, each involving a fixated person getting to within feet of the Duke.

‘In some circumstances, because of the limitations on what private security have the authority to do, they weren’t able to remove the person.

‘Harry is a big guy, a former soldier and generally pretty robust when it comes to handling these incidents.

‘It’s what impact such moments would have on the kids that everyone is most concerned about.’

While Meghan shares photographs and videos of their children on social media, their faces are obscured, and they do not attend public events with their parents.

Among the options said to be under consideration would be to fly the Duchess and the children in and out of Britain in one day, from a location in mainland Europe.

Prince Harry is said to have been given assurances from Buckingham Palace that there is ‘hope’ a meeting with the King could still happen.

The Sussexes’ private security team has drawn up its own risk assessment, which has identified serious concerns.

A Government spokesman said: ‘The UK Government’s protective security system is rigorous and proportionate.

‘It is our long-standing policy not to provide detailed information on those arrangements, as doing so could compromise their integrity and affect individuals’ security.’

Teen Robbery Suspect Receives Four-Year Sentence for $19k Watch Heist in Decatur

In a stark reminder of the consequences of youth crime, the case of a Decatur teenager culminated in a sentencing hearing on Monday, leaving a community pondering the repercussions of a momentary lapse leading to a lengthy penalty.

Nineteen-year-old Jerrion Jarrett learned his fate before the court, standing solemnly as the sentence was handed down. Having earlier entered a guilty plea to charges of aggravated robbery, Jarrett faced the reality of a four-year prison sentence for his role in stealing a $19,000 watch at gunpoint earlier this year.

The court proceedings unfolded with both prosecution and defense presenting their perspectives, each side submitting one piece of evidence. Jarrett also took the opportunity to speak on his behalf, attempting to sway the decision of Judge Thomas Griffith, who held the power to determine the length of his incarceration.

The terms of Jarrett’s plea agreement generously allowed Judge Griffith to exercise discretion over the sentencing. Weighing the gravity of the crime, Griffith concluded that a prison term was essential, reasoning that probation would fail to reflect the severity of the offense and that incarceration was necessary to ensure public safety.

Decatur Police previously reported that Jarrett was one of two people who, on March 13, approached a man outside T’bacco Shack on Grand Avenue, pulled guns and demanded his Rolex. The victim complied and both offenders, along with a third person accompanying them, ran into a nearby house.

The victim saw this, called police and pointed the responding officers to the house. The Emergency Response Team surrounded the house and demanded the people inside come out. Jarrett was the only one to do so, and police didn’t indicate that anyone else was arrested.

A court-authorized search of the home found both the victim’s watch and clothing that one of the robbers was seen on surveillance footage wearing.

Jarrett was charged with two felony counts of robbery: a Class X count of armed robbery and a Class 1 count of aggravated robbery. He pleaded guilty to the latter count while the former was dismissed.

Court records show Jarrett was given credit for the three months he spent in custody at the Macon County Jail, which will be deducted from his four-year sentence. He is also day-for-day eligible, which would cut his sentence in half.

He will be on parole for one year following his release from prison.

Exploring the Romantic History of ‘RHORI’ Star Kelsey Swanson’s Ex, John Caprio: Connection to Paula Abdul?

0

The second portion of The Real Housewives of Rhode Island reunion episode premiered last night (June 28), sparking curiosity about Kelsey Swanson’s previous relationship.

Before and during her current romance with Bill L’Europa, Swanson was involved in a relationship of convenience with John Caprio, the son of the late Judge Frank Caprio. Though not exclusive, Swanson accepted the fact that Caprio had another girlfriend in Miami. The RHORI personality was content with having him for half of the year while the other woman had him for the remaining half. Swanson, however, refrains from classifying the arrangement as polyamory. During their time together, Caprio provided Swanson with accommodation in his lavish 16,000-square-foot mansion and she wasn’t required to work.

Though their relationship has ended, Swanson has remained positive about her time with Caprio. The reunion revealed a surprising fact—John Caprio has another celebrity ex. Host Andy Cohen inquired about Caprio’s past romance with the iconic Paula Abdul, and Swanson confirmed it!

So, did John Caprio genuinely have a relationship with Paula Abdul? Are Kelsey Swanson and John Caprio still friends? Continue reading for the details.

Did John Caprio date Paula Abdul?

Kelsey Swanson confirmed that John Caprio did, in fact, date Paula Abdul. She mentioned this relationship occurred before her own time with Caprio, adding that she even “used to stay at Paula’s house with [Caprio] whenever [they] traveled to Los Angeles.”

It’s clear that Swanson was telling the truth during the intense reunion. The Boston Globe mentioned that Abdul and Caprio were “dating” back in 2012. Although it was not a very public relationship, the two were seen celebrating the singer’s 50th birthday together and in other locations around Rhode Island.

Adul did form a close bond to Caprio’s father, Judge Frank Caprio, and even served as an honorary pallbearer at the judge’s funeral.

Are John Caprio and Kelsey Swanson still friends?

Yes! Although the two are no longer together, their relationship ended very amicably. In Season 1, Episode 6 of the series, Swanson revealed that Caprio was still paying for her health insurance and car insurance. When talking about the arrangement, she said on  The Real Housewives of Rhode Island After Show: “We still love each other, we still care about each other. It’s like you’ve never dated a good guy if he didn’t offer to help you get on your feet after a breakup.”

It has been a while since the series was filmed though. At the reunion, Swanson revealed that her new boyfriend now pays for her car insurance, and she pays for her own health insurance.

Who is Kelsey Swanson dating now?

Swanson is happily in a relationship with Bill L’Europa. The two had known each other for quite some before they started a romantic relationship. In fact, he was one of her first crushes. Their relationship seems to be getting serious as they have begun talking about building a future together. Perhaps we will see more of them in Season 2.

Tragic Florida Weekend: Alligator Attacks Claim Woman’s Life, Injure Child

0

Tragedy struck in Central Florida on Sunday when a 31-year-old woman lost her life after an alligator attacked her, severing her arms while she swam with friends in the Econlockhatchee River. This incident adds to a troubling pattern of alligator attacks in the area, which had already resulted in a child being injured. These incidents have prompted state officials to issue warnings about the dangers posed by so-called “nuisance alligators.”

Responding to this surge in attacks, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) released an urgent advisory on Monday. The statement stressed the importance of reporting alligators that have come to associate humans with food. Such animals need to be identified and removed from their natural habitats to prevent further incidents.

The fatal encounter on Sunday is notably the second in the span of just 24 hours in Central Florida, according to FWC officials. It also marks the third reported attack in the region over the past week, underscoring the growing risk that communities face.

In the wake of Sunday’s attack, a deeply distressed 911 call captured the severity of the situation. “Bad, real bad please, hurry … she’s losing a lot of … please hurry … ” pleaded the caller, as released by local media on Monday. Among the frantic words was a chilling confirmation: “Someone got bit by a gator….”

The FWC said the woman was swimming near the Barr Street Trailhead in the Little Big Econ State Forest. She was taken to a hospital as a trauma alert and later died from her injuries, officials said. Her name had not been released Monday.

“The FWC extends its deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of the victim during this difficult time,” FWC press secretary Ashlee Brahier Sklute told News Media in a statement.

FWC officers, the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office and a trapper responded to the river.

“Multiple agencies and a contracted nuisance alligator trapper have responded to the scene,” Sklute said, detailing the ongoing investigation. “Trapping efforts are ongoing.”

The fatal attack came one day after a child was bitten in the hand by an alligator while fishing from shore at Nelson Fish Camp near Umatilla in Marion County, FWC said. The child was taken to a hospital for treatment, and an FWC officer later captured and killed an alligator that measured 8 feet, 7 inches, according to the FWC.

A week earlier, a snorkeler was bitten by an alligator in the Rainbow River in Marion County, prompting officials to temporarily close the waterway while FWC and deputies searched for the animal. Authorities later removed an 8-foot alligator, and the snorkeler was released from the hospital.

FWC says serious injuries from alligators are rare, but the agency warns that alligators are active across Florida, especially during courtship and mating season in spring and early summer. Florida is home to about 1.3 million alligators, and the animals live in all 67 counties, according to FWC.

“The FWC places the highest priority on public safety and administers a Statewide Nuisance Alligator Program (SNAP) to address complaints concerning specific alligators believed to pose a threat to people, pets or property,” the agency wrote in its statement to News Media.

“People with concerns about an alligator should call FWC’s toll-free Nuisance Alligator Hotline at 866-FWC-GATOR (866-392-4286),” they said. “When someone concerned about an alligator calls the Nuisance Alligator Hotline, we will dispatch one of our contracted nuisance alligator trappers to resolve the situation.”

A few safety recommendations for individuals coming into contact with an alligator, according to FWC: “Keep a safe distance” and “keep pets on a leash and away from the water’s edge.”

“Pets often resemble alligators’ natural prey,” FWC warns. “Swim only in designated swimming areas during daylight hours and without your pet. Alligators are most active between dusk and dawn.”

Also, “never feed an alligator; it’s illegal and dangerous.”

“When fed, alligators can lose their natural wariness and instead learn to associate people with the availability of food,” the FWC added. “This can lead to an alligator becoming a nuisance and needing to be removed from the wild.”

Michigan Tragedy: Heroic Girl Drowns Attempting to Rescue Cousin

0

A Michigan father is heartbroken following the tragic drowning of his teenage daughter, who died while attempting to save her cousin. In a poignant reveal, he shared the haunting last words she spoke.

Glenn Bradley, aged 38, expressed feeling ‘numb’ after his 14-year-old daughter, Aamina Bradley, lost her life in the river at Maheras-Gentry Park in Detroit. She was trying to rescue her nine-year-old cousin.

The devastated father recounted that the family was enjoying a day at the park to celebrate her brother’s graduation on Saturday. It was during this joyful event that Aamina’s younger cousin accidentally fell into the water.

‘My niece attempted to swim across and began to struggle,’ Bradley told the Daily Mail, recounting the perilous moment.

‘My daughter rushed in to help her. Sadly, the current in the Detroit River is overpoweringly strong,’ he explained.

Bradley recalled how he jumped in and tried to save her, as the teen called for him for the last time.

‘She looked at me one last time and said, “Dad, help me.” And she disappeared in the water. I just went out there and couldn’t find her. The current was pulling me.’

In the desperate search for Aamina, Bradley said he began drowning and also had to be rescued.

Bystanders pulled the nine-year-old out of the waters, while police searched the waters for hours before pulling the teen’s body from the river.

The selfless teen, a sister to two brothers, ‘loved the water,’ according to her grief-stricken father.

‘She had the biggest heart. She was sassy [and] very possessive with the people that she loved,’ he said.

‘She was very brilliant, smart. Very funny, always playing jokes.’

Bradley said, after Aamina’s biological mother left, the young teen was raised by himself and her grandmother.

His family are now left grieving Aamina, who had dreams of becoming a scientist, her father said.

‘She was my favorite girl in the world… [It] doesn’t really feel real. I have moments when I break down. Other moments, I’m mostly numb,’ he continued.

‘She was a beautiful soul. She was a fighter… for the people that she loved, she was going to have your back.’

Bradley recalled his heartbreaking last moments with his daughter. On that day, she had picked out ‘a pretty burgundy dress with flowers’ and white sandals, the father remembered.

Detroit mayor Mary Sheffield said in a statement: ‘A young girl lost her life in the water at Meharas-Gentry Park. There are no words adequate to ease the grief her family is carrying today.

‘No family should ever have to endure the loss of a child. The city sends our heartfelt condolences to the family.’

Bradley said the heartbroken family are preparing arrangements to celebrate Aamina’s young life.

According to a GoFundMe to help lay Aamina to rest, the young teen was a ‘beautiful, bright, loving and feisty girl’ with a ‘smile that could light up any room.’

Will Ferrell Debuts ‘The Hawk’: Breaking Out in Skims Underwear Campaign

0

Actor, comedian, and producer—these are titles often associated with Will Ferrell. But now, it seems he can add ‘underwear model’ to that list, albeit in a particularly Ferrell-like fashion.

In an unexpected and entertaining move, Will Ferrell has taken on a new role as the face of a Skims campaign. But it’s not just the actor himself who’s in the spotlight; rather, it’s his latest character, a charming athlete alter ego, that’s garnering attention.

Fans will soon see Ferrell embody Lonnie Hawkins, an aging professional golfer, in Netflix’s eagerly awaited series “The Hawk.” At the age of 58, Ferrell gamely embraced this character, even stripping down to his underwear for some in-character promotion.

On Monday, Skims took to Instagram to share a series of amusing images featuring Hawkins in his underwear. Accompanied by the cheeky caption, “@LonnieTheHawk knows he’s still got it,” the fictional golfer’s online persona has already attracted over 70,000 followers.

In these photos, Ferrell, as Hawkins, can be seen modeling men’s briefs from the brand, complete with a tank top, tube socks, and the character’s unmistakable accessories: a “Hawk” visor and puka shell necklace.

Skims co-founder Kim Kardashian even narrated a corresponding video spot, in which Ferrell’s character hits the golf course in his skivvies.

“His body says retire. His Skims say one more round,” Kardashian deadpans, calling Skims “built for men who still know they’ve got it.”

Ferrell and Kardashian teased their collaboration a few weeks ago on Instagram, with the reality icon teaching the athlete how to snap the perfect selfie.

The caption on the pair’s joint upload reads, “My name is Lonnie Hawkins. This is an Instagram post. Please comment if I posted it. Thank you Kim for helping me post. Is this going through? Can people see it. Comment below if you can see this post. Please use all caps.”

Ferrell joins a long list of famous Skims campaign stars; Nelly Furtado, Hailey Bieber, Kylie Jenner, Cardi B and Charli XCX are among the many celebs who’ve posed for Kardashian’s company in the past.

And while Skims’ men’s line hasn’t been around for quite as long, Usher and Post Malone have appeared in past ads as well.

“The Hawk” hits Netflix on July 16.

Boost Mobility Over 60: 4 Essential Exercises to Conquer Stairs Effortlessly

0

Does climbing stairs seem more challenging than it once did? These four daily exercises focus on strengthening the muscles that are key to conquering those steps with ease.

>

For many, stairs are one of the first indicators that physical effort is becoming more challenging, sometimes even before they notice other signs of slowing down. With close to four decades in the personal training industry and two decades managing TRAINFITNESS, I’ve observed this firsthand. What many don’t realize is that stair climbing is more than just a reflection of fitness—it’s a skill that can significantly improve with regular, targeted exercises.

To help stairs become less daunting, try these four exercises at home. In roughly eight minutes a day, they can make a noticeable difference.

If You Can Do These 4 Classic Exercises Daily at 60, You’re Aging Like an Athlete

Why Stairs Get Harder After 60

The biggest issue is asymmetric weakness, often without people realizing. One leg pushes harder than the other, the body learns to lean into the strong side, and the weaker leg gets a little weaker each year. By 60, most people have noticeably less strength on one side and don’t know which one.

Stairs get harder for a few specific reasons. The quads weaken first, which makes pushing the body up onto the next step a real effort. The glutes weaken next, which is what stops you from wobbling sideways as you step up.

And the eccentric strength, the muscles working as they lengthen, fades fastest of all. That’s the system that controls the body coming down.

That’s why going downstairs feels harder than going up for many over 60s. Going up, the muscles shorten under load. Going down, they have to lengthen under load while stopping you from falling. It’s a much harder ask, and it’s the bit nobody trains.

There’s also the confidence side. After one bad stumble or a knee that suddenly gave way, people start gripping the banister and pausing at the top to look down. The hesitation itself makes stairs harder because the legs don’t fire smoothly when the brain isn’t sure.

Why Daily Practice Works Fast

Specificity. Stairs are a repeated single-leg movement, so the training that helps most is repeated single-leg work. A general gym session might build strength, but won’t necessarily teach the legs how to use it on a step.

Frequency is the other half. The legs respond very quickly to short, daily practice on the exact patterns needed. The neural side of the work, where the brain teaches the muscles when to fire, can change in days. Strength gains follow within weeks.

And there’s the confidence effect. Doing a stair pattern in your own home, every day, builds trust in the legs in a way a weekly class never quite manages. Stair climbing has a mental component that most people underestimate.

4 Chair Exercises That Flatten Waist Overhang Faster Than Gym Workouts After 50

Step-Up Onto A Low Step

Trains the exact pattern of going up stairs, on one leg at a time. Builds the quad and glute strength on the working leg while teaching the balance system to hold the body steady through the transition.

Muscles Trained: Quads, glutes

How to Do It:

  • Use the bottom step of your staircase, or a sturdy step of 4 to 6 inches
  • Hold the banister or a wall for balance
  • Place one foot flat on the step
  • Push through that heel to lift the body up until you’re standing on the step
  • Step the working leg back down slowly, under control
  • Do 8 to 10 reps on one side, then swap

Avoid These Mistakes:

  • Don’t push off the back foot instead of using the working leg
  • Don’t let the knee collapse inwards
  • Don’t rush the descent, which is where most of the value sits.

Slow Step-Down

This is the move that fixes going down stairs, which is what most people over 60 struggle with most. It trains the quads and glutes to control the body’s weight as it lowers, which is the exact skill the stairs demand.

Muscles Trained: Quads, glutes

How to Do It:

  • Stand on the bottom step or a sturdy 4 to 6-inch step
  • Hold the banister for balance
  • Slowly lower one foot towards the floor, taking 4 to 5 seconds
  • Let the heel of the lowering foot lightly tap the floor, but keep your weight on the leg still on the step
  • Push back up to standing on the step
  • Do 6 to 8 reps on one side, then swap

Avoid These Mistakes:

  • Don’t drop fast onto the lower foot, which removes the eccentric work
  • Don’t let the working knee buckle inwards
  • Don’t hold the banister so tightly; you’re pulling yourself up rather than pushing through the leg.

6 Standing Exercises for a Stronger, Leaner Core After 50

Sit-To-Stand

Builds general leg strength and rehearses the move closest to stair climbing in daily life. A strong sit-to-stand is the strongest signal we have that someone will keep climbing stairs without trouble into their seventies and beyond.

Muscles Trained: Quads, glutes

How to Do It:

  • Sit on a sturdy chair, feet flat on the floor, hip-width apart
  • Fold your arms across your chest, or hold them out in front for balance
  • Lean slightly forward at the hips
  • Push through the heels to stand all the way up
  • Sit back down slowly, taking 3 seconds
  • Do 10 to 15 reps

Avoid These Mistakes:

  • Don’t rock back and use momentum to throw yourself up
  • Don’t drop into the chair, which trains nothing on the way down
  • Don’t lift the heels at the start, which loads the knees instead of the glutes.

Calf Raise With Chair Support

The calves do most of the push-off work on a stair. Strong calves also stabilize the ankle, which is the joint that has to deal with the small wobbles each step creates. The chair support means you can train them safely without risking a wobble.

Muscles Trained: Calves

How to Do It:

  • Stand behind a sturdy chair, hands resting on the back
  • Lift the heels off the floor, rising up onto the balls of the feet
  • Hold at the top for 1 second
  • Lower slowly over 2 seconds, the heel just brushing the floor before the next rep
  • Do 15 to 20 reps

Avoid These Mistakes:

  • Don’t bounce through the reps without control
  • Don’t pull up with the arms, rather than lifting with the calves
  • Don’t let the ankles roll outwards at the top.

5 Chair Exercises That Restore All-Day Energy Better Than Coffee After 60

How To Fit This Into Your Week

The whole sequence takes around eight minutes. Do it daily if you can, or five days a week as a realistic minimum. The legs are quick to respond and won’t get sore from this kind of work after the first week.

The best time of day is whenever you’ll actually do it. Many of my clients use the staircase pattern first thing, before breakfast, because the staircase is right there and gets used as the gym. Five minutes before you start your day is enough.

If you only have time for two exercises, pick the step-up and the slow step-down. Those two cover the patterns that matter most. The sit-to-stand and calf raise add a meaningful extra dose of leg strength, but the stair patterns are the bit that translates most directly.

Safety Tips And Easy Changes

For knee pain, start with the smallest step you can find, even a single inch off the floor in some cases. The lower the step, the less load on the knee. Build the height gradually over weeks as the joint settles. The slow step-down is excellent for most knee pain because it strengthens the muscles that protect the joint, but if a specific knee position causes pain, reduce the depth.

For hip issues, the same principle applies. Reduce the range, slow the tempo, and keep the working knee tracking over the second toe. If a deep step-up pinches the hip, lower the step until it doesn’t.

For balance problems, use two hands on the banister or a wall, and have someone with you for the first few sessions if needed. The whole point is to build confidence, not to test it. A fall during a balance exercise is the opposite of what we’re after.

Across all four, sharp pain is the stop signal. A steady muscle effort or a strong stretch is fine. A sharp catch, a sudden giving way, or pain that lingers for hours afterward is the body asking you to back off. Drop the load, the depth, or the speed and try the next day again.

What To Expect In 4 To 6 Weeks

Two weeks in, most people notice they’re not gripping the banister as hard as they used to. The legs are firing more confidently, especially on the way down.

By 4 weeks, the change is bigger. Stairs in the home start to feel like a non-event. Stairs in unfamiliar places, the railway station, or a friend’s house, also feel less of a worry.

By 6 weeks, strength has caught up with the new pattern. The legs feel solid under you, and most clients report that they’re walking faster on the flat too, because their stride is no longer being held back by hesitant hips.

A simple way to check progress is to time yourself going up and down a single flight of stairs at the start, walking at a comfortable pace, holding the banister lightly. Repeat the test at 4 weeks. Most people knock 20 to 30 percent off the time without trying to rush.

You can also count how many times you can stand up from a sturdy chair in 30 seconds without using your hands. That’s a measure most physios use, and it tracks stair climbing strength very closely. Below 10 is a sign of weakness, 12 to 14 is normal for someone in their sixties, and above 15 puts you in the strong category.

Argentinian YouTube Stars Detained for Suspected Security Breach at World Cup Match

In related news, two YouTubers from Argentina are facing serious legal trouble after being arrested at a World Cup match. Authorities claim the two attempted to breach security measures using phony credentials.

Pato Perrotta, aged 26, and Beni Marmol, 20, were taken into custody on Saturday at Hard Rock Stadium. They allegedly managed to bypass three levels of security during the Colombia-Portugal match using credentials that were not legitimate for the event.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by News Media, a deputy from the Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office reported that Perrotta claimed he was “hired by a media company to cover the event and possessed valid credentials.”

However, the deputy noted that the credentials Perrotta provided were actually from a different event and were not authorized for use at Saturday’s game.

Marmol allegedly “stated that he was a media influencers (sic) trying to get in to stream the game.”

Both men were arrested on charges of felony interference with a sports/entertainment event, which has a maximum sentence of five years in prison.

Perrotta and Marmol were held at a local jail on a $2,500 bond.

During a live video, streamer Momo Benavides said he heard from Walter Costabel, who is the YouTuber’s manager, Todo Noticias reported.

“I have been with Mármol y Pato since yesterday. We already paid bail, they will be released in a few hours. The cause is still not entirely clear. The judge just set bail and nothing more. All that is said are rumors about it,” Momo said.

Momo said the YouTubers will remain in the U.S. until the matter is resolved.

“I imagine that, obviously, the fact that they have paid bail is not going to allow them to return. They are going to have to stay there until it is resolved,” he said. “In any case, they are not deported, they just do not have to be near the stadiums where the World Cup matches are played. The crime charged is interference in sporting events.”

The duo’s videos span lavish shopping sprees and 24-hour challenges. Perrotta boasts more than 500,000 YouTube subscribers, with Marmol close behind at more than 270,000.

David Beckham Accompanies His Mother Sandra for Their Yearly Outing at Wimbledon

David Beckham embraced the lively atmosphere of Wimbledon’s opening day on Monday by joining his mother Sandra in participating in a Mexican wave from the prestigious Royal Box.

Fresh from a flight back to the UK after attending England’s World Cup game in New Jersey on Saturday, Beckham treated Sandra to a memorable outing at the All England Club.

Elegantly dressed in a grey suit, the 51-year-old David and Sandra were seated in the VIP area alongside notable figures such as Mary Berry and former tennis player Debbie Jevans, with Mark Rylance, Alexandra Armstrong, and Katherine Jenkins sitting in the row behind them.

However, the invitation to the Royal Box did not extend to David’s son Romeo and his partner Kim Turnbull.

Despite being avid tennis enthusiasts, Romeo and Kim had to enjoy the matches from less prestigious seating, as they were spotted arriving at Wimbledon’s SW19 grounds.

Romeo looked suave in a brown suit with a white T-shirt whilst Kim sported a glam white dress.

Weather presenter Carol Kirkwood appeared at the event for the first time since stepping back as a commentator and now acting as guest.

She has traditionally provided weather updates throughout the Championships yet will be absent from screens after stepping down from her role on BBC Breakfast in April following a 28 year career in the field.

Her replacement Isa Guha paid tribute to Carol minutes into Wimbledon’s opening coverage, saying: ‘Now, this is normally the time in the show that we head across to Carol Kirkwood for a British weather update, especially here in the sunshine…

‘It would have been great to see her, but after 28 years on BBC Breakfast, Carol has moved on. So, we wish you all the best, Carol. Hopefully you’ve got your feet up on the sofa with a cup of tea to enjoy the tennis this week.’

Confirming Carol’s replacements, Isa continued: ‘Of course, there isn’t one presenter who could replace Carol, so we’re going to have a selection of BBC weather’s finest over the two weeks, including today with Matt Taylor.

‘Welcome along, Matt. How is it looking today, and for the rest of the fortnight?’

Pointless star Alexander Armstrong looked stylish in a blue suit as he arrived hand in hand with his wife Hannah.

Wimbledon have told fans to stop coming down to the queue on opening day after enormous numbers of hopefuls descended in the hope of grabbing a ticket.

The famous Wimbledon queue was visibly heaving and it has been confirmed that 10,000 people were there by 8.30am.

Many of those queuing overnight will have been planning on grabbing a No1 Court ticket to watch Emma Raducanu – but those hopes were dashed by the British No1’s late-night withdrawal on Sunday after a scan revealed she suffered a stress fracture.

Jannik Sinner will start his title defence against Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanović in the first match on Centre Court.

Sabalenka also begins her campaign against Teodora Kostovic.

Novak Djokovic, a 24-time major champion, is also in action on an opening day and starts his latest bid for a 25th grand slam title against China’s Wu Yibing.
