Olivia Wilde Addresses Alleged Confrontation with Florence Pugh

0

Intense rumors of a falling out between Olivia Wilde and Florence Pugh cast a shadow over the debut of the film “Don’t Worry Darling.”

Now, Wilde is addressing the gossip that swirled during the film’s release.

Allegedly, the tension between Wilde and Pugh emerged amid the filmmaker’s romantic involvement with Harry Styles. Reports suggest Pugh was displeased with Wilde’s relationship with Styles, as it began while Wilde was still engaged to Jason Sudeikis.

Wilde has refuted claims of a heated confrontation with Pugh on the movie set. The film explores the story of women who are unknowingly turned into 1950s housewives by their partners’ manipulation.

“I have never had a screaming match on my set. I was always available on set. I wanted to say, ‘None of this is true,'” Wilde shared with the publication.

The relationship – which Wilde called ‘loving and wonderful and joyful’ – lasted for nearly two years.

Yet the rumors contaminated not just the rollout of the film, but also followed Wilde and Styles around throughout their relationship.

Wilde, who directed the movie, claimed she was advised against speaking up about the speculation by the studio and other parties – a request she acquiesced to but now regrets.

‘I was told, “Don’t say a f**king word. Just go out there and smile”,’ Wilde, shaking her head, told The Cut. ‘I resent that, but it taught me it’s not the way I want to handle things.’

The Daily Mail has contacted a representative for Pugh for comment.

At the time, a report in Page Six claimed Pugh took issue with Wilde for supposedly taking up with Harry while still engaged to Sudeikis.

The apparent feud intensified when Wilde referred to Pugh as ‘Miss Flo’ and said she needed a ‘wake-up call’ during the rehearsal period of the movie, in a video to actor Shia LaBeouf that was leaked.

At the time, Vulture reported that the director and her star got into a ‘screaming match’ with one another while filming the movie, as the director would often disappear with Styles.

‘Olivia and Harry would just disappear,’ an insider claimed to the outlet.

It had been reported the feud had begun as Pugh was upset seeing Wilde 'hooking up' with Styles while she was still engaged to Jason Sudeikis (Wilde and Sudeikis in 2013)

Should directors speak out when rumors threaten a film, or stay silent to protect the project?

According to an unnamed insider on the movie, Pugh and Wilde came to blows over Wilde’s ‘frequent, unexplained absences,’ on set which resulted in a ‘screaming match’ between the two women.

Wilde did praise Pugh when asked about the feud during a press conference for the film at the Venice Film Festival, which was not attended by Pugh due to previous filming obligations.

‘Can you just clear the air and address whether there has been a falling out there and if so why, because it’s something that people are discussing?’ the reporter asked.

Wilde responded: ‘Florence is a force and we are so grateful that she is able to make it tonight despite being in production on Dune.’

‘I know as a director how disruptive it is to lose an actor even for a day so I’m very grateful to her and Denis Villeneuve for helping us – we’re really thrilled we’ll get to celebrate her work tonight.’

She continued: ‘I can’t say enough how honoured I am to have her as our lead. She’s amazing in the film and, as for all the endless tabloid gossip and all the noise out there, I mean, the internet feeds itself. I don’t feel the need to contribute, I think it’s sufficiently well nourished.’

The speculation was present as the cast attended the Venice International Film Festival, where their film premiered (L-R, Kroll, Pugh, Pine, Wilde, Sydney Chandler, Styles and Gemma Chan)

In addition, a total of 40 individuals who worked on the movie, including producer Miri Yoon, came forward to release a joint statement obtained by the Daily Mail after the movie came out, in an attempt to ‘correct’ the ‘absurd’ and ‘completely false’ claims that were made about the set.

‘As a crew, we’ve avoided addressing the absurd gossip surrounding the movie we’re so proud of, but feel the need to correct the anonymous “sources” quoted in a recent article,’ the statement began.

‘Any allegations about unprofessional behavior on the set are completely false. Olivia is an incredible leader and director who was present with and involved in every aspect of production.

‘She ran this set with class and respect for everyone involved. There was never a screaming match between our director and anyone, let alone a member of our cast.’

Wilde and Styles have since split, and the separation was thought to be down to the pressures of his global touring and Wilde’s focus on her children in Los Angeles.

She has two children with Ted Lasso star Sudeikis, son Otis Alexander, 12, and daughter, Daisy Josephine, 9.

Harry’s new song Paint By Numbers is considered to be a break-up song about Olivia.

The lyrics go ‘You’re the luckiest, oh, the irony/ Holding the weight of the American children whose hearts you break/ Was it a tragedy when you told her/ ‘I’m not even 33?’

Urgent Water Quality Alerts for Georgia Beaches: Latest Test Results Reveal Elevated Bacteria Levels

TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. () — State authorities are advising caution for those heading to the beach after higher than normal levels of fecal bacteria were recorded at several of Georgia’s popular beaches, including parts of Tybee Island.

A recent water quality assessment in Georgia revealed that over a dozen miles of its coastline do not meet safe recreational standards due to increased levels of enterococci—a bacteria typically found in the intestines of humans and other warm-blooded animals.

The Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) has flagged areas on Tybee Island, Jekyll Island, and St. Simons Island as compromised because of the elevated bacteria levels.

Although these beaches remain accessible to the public, officials advise steering clear of the affected zones while ongoing monitoring and water quality tests are conducted.

Enterococci, one of two fecal indicator bacteria employed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), is used to safeguard public health in recreational water bodies. These bacteria, commonly residing in the intestines of both humans and animals, may indicate contamination and suggest the possible presence of harmful pathogens.

According to environmental experts, enterococci and other bacteria can enter waterways through a variety of sources, including:

  • Stormwater runoff

  • Sewage discharges
  • Animal waste
  • Wastewater treatment plant effluent
  • Failing septic systems
  • Some background levels may also occur naturally from non-fecal sources such as plants, sand, soil and sediment.

State officials have not yet determined the exact source of contamination in the affected coastal waters.

    Affected beach segments below.

The following shoreline segments were identified as impaired due to elevated enterococci levels:

    Beach Area Location Length (Miles)
Jekyll Island – Driftwood Beach Beach Kilometer Marker 1 to Tallu Fish Lane 2.0
Jekyll Island – North Beach at Dexter Lane Tallu Fish Lane to Brice Lane 4.0
St. Simons Island – 5th Street Crossover Beach Cedar Street to 9th Street (Village Area) 0.6
St. Simons Island – Massengale Park Beach Driftwood Drive to Cedar Street 0.5
St. Simons Island – Middle Beach (East Beach Old Coast Guard Station) Tenth Street to Driftwood Drive 0.9
St. Simons Island – North Beach at Gould’s Inlet Fifteenth Street to Tenth Street (East Beach Area) 0.4
St. Simons Island – South Beach at Lighthouse 9th Street to Pier (Village Area) 1.5
Tybee Island – Polk Street Beach End of Beach to Jetty 1.8
Tybee Island – Strand Beach at Pier 11th Street to 18th Street 0.7

On Tybee Island, the impacted areas include the beach near Polk Street on the island’s north end and a section of beach near the pier between 11th and 18th Streets.

Under the federal Clean Water Act, states are required to assess water quality every two years and determine whether waterways are supporting their designated uses, such as recreation, fishing or aquatic life.

When waters are found to be impaired and unable to support their designated use, states must develop what are known as Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs). These plans establish the maximum amount of pollutants that can enter a water body while still meeting water quality standards.

    The process includes:

    1. Identifying pollution sources.

  • Developing pollutant reduction targets.
  • Releasing a draft TMDL for public comment.
  • Reviewing and incorporating public feedback.
  • Submit a final plan to the EPA for approval.
  • The designation does not automatically close beaches but serves as a warning that water quality conditions need improvement and additional management efforts.

Millions of visitors travel to Georgia’s coast each year, with Tybee Island remaining one of the state’s most popular destinations for tourists and residents.

Officials emphasize that many beach areas remain safe for recreation. However, beachgoers are encouraged to check the latest Georgia EPD water quality reports and advisories before entering the water and to avoid swimming in areas where elevated bacteria levels have been detected.

Additional monitoring and investigation into the source of contamination are ongoing.

How New York’s Democrat Establishment Set Themselves Up for Failure

    0

During the New York Democratic primary night, candidates endorsed by the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) achieved sweeping victories in their three targeted congressional races. Many other DSA-affiliated candidates also experienced significant success. Once the final tallies were in, Democratic House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (NY-08) delivered a speech applauding the outcomes. However, a crowd at a DSA victory party responded with boos and chants of “you’re next,” expressing dissatisfaction with Jeffries’ perceived moderate stance.

This turn of events carries a hint of irony. Jeffries, along with the broader Democratic establishment, may find themselves facing repercussions of their own making. Their policy choices have unwittingly paved the way for the DSA’s rise, a movement now strong enough to challenge them.

So, how did such a scenario unfold? Here’s the explanation:

    1. The Dysfunctional Leftist Education System

In my previous article, I delved into how the Democratic establishment has fostered a leftist educational environment across our schools and universities. Eager to solidify party loyalty, they permitted left-leaning influences to permeate the educational system. This strategy seemed designed to cultivate generations of steadfast Democratic voters. Who made a substantial impact in the low-turnout New York primaries that propelled the DSA’s success? None other than the young, urban socialist enthusiasts. Yet, in regions devoid of these key supporters, establishment Democrats secured their positions with little difficulty.

Elderly Victim, 93, Tragically Killed in Shower: Woman Charged with Murder

A woman from Missouri has been arrested after authorities claim she killed a 93-year-old woman, who was found deceased in her own shower.

Authorities have charged 27-year-old Kelisha Reeves with first-degree murder for the alleged killing of Diana Barco, aged 93, as confirmed by the Clay County Prosecutor’s Office in a recent press release.

This tragic incident purportedly took place between the dates of June 8 and June 9 at a property located on Briarcliff Road in Kansas City.

Law enforcement officials received a call on June 9 regarding the discovery of a deceased person at the address.

Inside, the Kansas City Police Department found Barco with what officers initially described as “bodily trauma,” according to a police report obtained by Kansas City-based Fox affiliate WDAF.

While Reeves was quickly arrested for the older woman’s death, details were initially scarce. Then prosecutors filed the charges.

The first sign of something amiss came when a care worker found Barco’s walker outside near the front door, according to a probable cause statement obtained by local CBS affiliate KCTV. The worker then went in the house to look for the victim and found her lying face down in the shower, according to the charging document.

Around 11:30 a.m. on the day in question, authorities arrived at the scene and found the victim without a shirt or bra on, but still wearing her pants and socks, according to law enforcement.

A handheld showerhead attached to a hose had been pulled out of the wall and wrapped around Barco’s upper body, police said.

Detectives also noted the presence of what looked like blood in the doorway leading into the bathroom and clothing covered in blood on the bathroom floor, according to the charging document.

The victim was found to have suffered multiple apparent stab wounds to the back of her head and neck, law enforcement said, citing the medical examiner. She also appeared to have been strangled.

During the ensuing investigation, detectives learned about other reported crimes in the vicinity of the woman’s death — and those crimes offered what appeared to be telltale clues.

As it turned out, a domestic violence case involving property damage as well as an arson was reported in the immediate area on June 8. In both of those cases, Reeves was listed as the suspect, police said.

The arson particularly stood out, police said.

The victim in that case said Reeves was among a group of three people seen walking away from the fire — one of whom allegedly said: “If I can’t have a place to live, neither can you.”

When Barco’s family was given access to the residence, they noticed a credit card was missing, according to law enforcement. That same credit card was allegedly found with Reeves when she was eventually arrested in Jasper County — some 150 miles due south of Kansas City — on June 13, in relation to the property damage case.

The credit card had the victim’s name scratched out, police said. Additionally, police found other items that appeared to have been taken from Barco’s residence, according to the charging document.

Reeves, for her part, told detectives she was across the street from the victim’s house when Barco saw her crying and told her to come over for safety, according to the probable cause statement.

Then, the defendant allegedly told detectives, she slept on a bench in front of Barco’s house until the elderly woman gave her the credit card so she could find safety and shelter, and even added her as an authorized user.

Reeves is being detained in the Clay County Jail on $1 million bond. She is next slated to appear in court on June 30.

New Tax Season Alert: Deductions Limited and ATO Increases Scrutiny on Claims

    0

Australians are being cautioned against filing fraudulent work-from-home claims, relying too heavily on financial influencers’ advice, and rushing to submit tax returns prematurely.

With the financial calendar resetting on July 1, it’s essential to note that a popular tax benefit will not be available this year.

In its budget announcement in May, the federal government outlined plans to pass a $1,000 instant tax deduction for work-related expenses. This is part of a broader initiative to ease living costs, originally pledged during the 2025 election cycle. Learn more about this measure here..

However, taxpayers should not expect to see this deduction on their returns this year, as it is slated to take effect for the 2026-2027 tax year, assuming it is enacted.

Here’s what you need to know about filing your tax return this year.

What the ATO will be watching this year

The ATO has stated that it will focus on areas where taxpayers are likely to make errors, including work-related deductions and expenses, as well as omitted income.

The agency also warns of misinformation and unverified advice on processing tax, urging taxpayers to think twice before following advice from third-party sources such as artificial intelligence, finfluencers and family and friends.

“There is a lot of misinformation out there, so checking it through a verified source is one of our key areas of focus this year,” ATO assistant commissioner Anita Challen said.

CPA Australia’s tax lead Jenny Wong warns that tax time is a peak period for scam activity, with scammers using emails, text messages and phone calls impersonating the ATO or tax agents to trick people out of personal information or money.

“If something doesn’t seem right, pause and verify the source. Access official services only through the ATO website or contact your registered tax agent directly,” Wong told SBS News.

“With increasingly sophisticated scams, a moment of caution can prevent significant financial scams.”

Common tax mistakes warned by accountants

Gavan Ord, business and investment lead at CPA Australia, told SBS News it’s important to prepare before lodging tax claims, rather than rushing.

“Cost-of-living pressures could mean some people are eager to lodge their tax return as quickly as possible this year to access a refund, but it’s important to be patient, gather your receipts and evidence, then claim everything you are entitled to,” he said.

Ord also warns of another common mistake by taxpayers when filling in the forms.

“Some people go into autopilot when they do their tax returns, just cutting and pasting from their previous year’s return and failing to consider any changes to their personal circumstances,” he said.

“Take the time to reflect on your work-related expenses and collect your evidence before lodging.”

Taxpayers can continue to claim work-related expenses as usual. The money must have been spent and not reimbursed, be directly related to earning income, and have a record of proof.

“Expenses must be relevant to your specific job, so there’s no point trying to claim the cost of a laptop bag if you’re a bus driver, for example,” Ord said.

For taxpayers who work from home, Challen said they could claim the deduction only if they could demonstrate that they needed to work from home to fulfil their employment duties.

“So that doesn’t include carrying out minimal tasks, for example, checking a few emails or taking a couple of phone calls,” Challen said.

She said “the easiest way” to claim a working-from-home expense was to request a fixed rate, which allows taxpayers to claim 70 cents for every hour they work from home. The rates cover all additional expenses, including internet and electricity.

Challen said taxpayers could also opt for a cost-based approach to claim a working-from-home tax deduction, but they had to provide additional records for the costs.

Don’t file your tax return too early

The ATO has asked taxpayers not to rush to lodge claims until late July, after the agency had said it had to adjust nearly 600,000 individual tax returns during the 2024-2025 financial year.

The agency also found that claims lodged before the ATO’s system was able to pre-fill relevant information were more than twice as likely to need amendments.

The ATO said it corrected more than 140,000 individual tax returns last financial year, with discrepancies appearing in employment income, interest, dividends, welfare payments, Medicare levy exemptions and private health insurance.

More than 595,000 individual tax returns had to be adjusted by the ATO’s data-matching program due to errors such as missing income and overstated deductions.

Challen said many taxpayers wrongly assumed that the earlier they lodge their tax returns, the faster they would receive a refund.

“Early lodgement increases the likelihood of missing information and mistakes being made, which can delay processing and require amendments,” she said.

The ATO suggested people begin their tax tasks in late July, when the agency’s system has pre-fill information for taxpayers, including wages, bank interest, government payments and private health insurance details.

“We recommend waiting until your income statement is tax-ready before preparing and lodging your tax return, which will vary for each taxpayer,” an ATO spokesperson told SBS News.

Gainesville Resident Taken into Custody Over Alleged Threats in Live Streaming Incident

    0

    Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – In a significant development, Keyonna Lakia Taylor, 24, has been taken into custody following accusations of threatening another woman’s life through live social media videos.

According to a report by an officer from the Gainesville Police Department, the alleged incidents occurred on May 13 and May 14. During this period, Taylor is said to have broadcasted two videos on Facebook Live, lasting 27 and 38 minutes each. In these recordings, Taylor allegedly directed multiple threats toward the victim, who is identified as the sister of her ex-boyfriend’s current partner.

The victim, having stumbled upon the live streams while they were ongoing, managed to screen-record the videos. These recordings were subsequently presented to the police as evidence.

In the video streamed on May 13, Taylor reportedly made specific threats, stating her intentions to “spit on” and “pistol whip” the victim and a man, although she refrained from directly naming the victim, only referring to her as a “girlfriend’s sister.”

On May 14, Taylor reportedly referred to the victim by her first and last name and said, “I’m talking about you!” She allegedly threatened to hit the victim with her car, trip her, and beat her, along with saying the victim was lucky she “didn’t have no [expletive] Glock, all you [expletive] woulda been down!” The officer notes that while the statement was “theoretical in nature,” it “communicates a desire and/or willingness to utilize a firearm” against the victim.

The officer noted that Taylor’s face was clearly captured in both videos.

Taylor has been charged with stalking and making a written threat to kill. She has one misdemeanor conviction (non-violent), and Judge Meshon Rawls ordered her held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s Office to hold her without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Iran Unveils Innovative Jellyfish Drones, Signaling a Novel Military Threat

    0

A riveting account of an unexpected encounter above Iranian airspace this week has sparked a lively defense discussion, hinting at emergent threats in aerial combat. The incident involves a US pilot whose chilling description points to the presence of peculiar “jellyfish drones” in the skies.

An inside source shared with CNN that an F-15 pilot reported witnessing “multiple drones interconnected and moving as one unit, with smaller drones underneath the larger ones resembling legs,” just moments before his aircraft went down near the Zagros Mountains.

The pilot himself described the scenario as “real alien sh-t,” offering a window into the bewildering nature of his experience.

Despite the intriguing eyewitness account, the expert community remains at odds over the interpretation of what the pilot actually encountered. Aspersions have been cast on the notion that these are harbingers of a brand new kind of menace.

The latest sighting closely aligns with past reports of enormous aerial jellyfish-like phenomena observed over the conflict zones of Iraq and Afghanistan, adding layers to an already complex mystery.

One of these, filmed near Al Taqaddum Air Base in Iraq in 2017, was originally reported as a UFO — but a Pentagon investigation concluded that it was a cluster of metallic balloons.

Another video, apparently taken by a Reaper drone in Afghanistan in 2024, showed a similar multi-balloon arrangement — a sight so weird that some took it to be a UFO, but on closer examination turned out to be entirely earthly.

Many militaries use balloons — sometimes single huge weather balloons, sometimes clusters or trains of smaller balloons — to carry sensors for intelligence-gathering purposes.

Perhaps the most famous example of this is 1947’s Project Mogul, a highly classified US effort aimed at detecting the stratospheric echoes of Soviet nuclear tests.

When debris from a Project Mogul balloon train was found near Roswell, NM, the military initially claimed it was a crashed flying saucer — spawning an entire industry that’s still going strong.

Those recently spotted Middle East jellyfish balloon clusters were likely carrying electronic surveillance devices or other sensors, and may have been of Iranian origin.

But given the F-15 pilot’s specific mention of drones, we shouldn’t dismiss this sighting as a balloon cluster, despite the obvious similarity.

A lot is riding on the word “interconnected” in the service member’s testimony.

If it means the drones were physically interconnected with wires strung between them, this sounds like a reinvention of the barrage balloon concept used to protect cities in World War II.

These giant tethered blimps were strung together with wires, creating an impassable obstacle to low-flying bombers.

A similar arrangement using drones could create an airborne barrier against incoming aircraft and cruise missiles.

However, “interconnected” could refer to electronic links that had the drones flying in formation in a giant jellyfish-like shape.

That’s simple enough for light-show drones: Thousands of them, pre-programmed and with a central controller, can form shifting shapes of symbols, dragons, words or anything else — including, yes, jellyfish.

The type of controls used by light-show drones are easily jammed, so they’re impractical in a military environment.

But many militaries, including the US, Ukraine and Russia, are working on swarming drone capabilities, typically using secure mesh radio systems.

In a swarm, a group of autonomous drones work together and fly in formation without the need for the central control and planned choreography light-show drones require.

The F-15 pilot also described an apparent “minefield of drones” in the air, which aligns with the WWII barrage balloon tactic.

Armed drones are much too slow to catch an agile jet fighter — but a mass of them spreading out can cover a large section of the sky.

A jet flying through the formation risks catastrophic damage if it gets close to one that detonates.

In 2021 Russian drone maker ZALA described using wide-spaced interceptor drones to create an aerial minefield impossible to pass through, though there’s no evidence the company pushed forward with this idea.

Some have suggested that the pilot, who suffered a concussion in the crash, must have been mistaken about what he saw.

    This would certainly be convenient.

But the Iranians have a long history of military drone development, and Tehran has become a major drone exporter.

The thousands of Shahed drones that Russia flings at Ukraine’s cities were designed in Iran.

And the regime is certainly not ignorant of swarms: In 2021 the Iranian Army showcased a new system it called Mass Flight, in which an operator controls a leader drone with a squadron of nine additional drones automatically following its lead.

This was described as having “counter air capability,” meaning it could be used against aircraft.

The technology was crude at the time, but it may have advanced significantly in the last five years.

Crucially, we still don’t know if whatever the F-15 encountered was actually related to the downing of the aircraft: did the pilot run into a drone?

Or was he distracted enough to miss another threat? Or was this sighting simply a bizarre incidental feature of the mission?

At present we have more questions than answers.

Only the Iranians know the truth — and they’re not telling.

Online Romance Deception: Dating App Casanova Charged with Murder After Troubling Past

    0

A man from Connecticut, charged with the murder of his girlfriend who was discovered dead at the base of a staircase months earlier, also faces separate domestic violence allegations. In an ongoing case, a different woman has accused him of choking, threatening, and assaulting her after they met on a dating app, according to court documents.

Cole Theodore Werhan, age 28, residing in Burlington, Connecticut, was taken into custody on Tuesday. He has been charged with the murder of 26-year-old Janina Brooke Murphy from Duxbury, Massachusetts, as confirmed by the Connecticut State Police.

In March, Murphy, known to friends as Brooke, was discovered at the foot of a staircase inside her residence in Burlington. At that time, state police considered the circumstances surrounding her death suspicious.

Werhan is alleged to have killed Janina Brooke Murphy, whose fatal head injury was determined by authorities to be a homicide. He is 28 and resides in Burlington, Connecticut. (Source: Connecticut State Police)

The Connecticut Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has recently revealed that Murphy’s death resulted from blunt force trauma to her head and officially classified it as homicide.

“Another detective got on the phone. He said, ‘I want you to know something. Your daughter didn’t just fall down the stairs. She had wounds all over her,'” Murphy’s mother, Beth Murphy, told WBZ-TV.

Beth Murphy said her daughter and Werhan were dating, and that the homicide ruling confirmed what her family had feared.

“It’s confirmed, it wasn’t an accident. So that part, really, that’s tough,” she told WBZ-TV.

Court records reviewed by News Media show Werhan was already facing pending domestic violence charges in a separate case out of Torrington Superior Court. In that case, a woman told Connecticut State Police investigators she met Werhan on Hinge and that their communication initially seemed normal before he began “love bombing” her, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

The woman told police that during their first in-person meeting at Werhan’s Burlington home, he was drinking and physically assaulted her, the warrant says.

She alleged that between May and August 2025, Werhan slapped her, pulled her hair, screamed in her face, held her down and, during one incident, ran up behind her as she tried to leave, grabbed her, threw her back into the house and held her down, according to the affidavit.

In another alleged incident, the woman told police Werhan strangled her with his hands around her neck while he was on top of her, squeezing until she could not breathe, the warrant says. She told investigators she did not lose consciousness but had bruising on her neck for about a week.

The woman also told police Werhan threatened her and said he wanted to kill her, according to the warrant.

“Complainant #1 stated that Werhan would yell at her, insult her, and say that he hated her,” the affidavit says. “Complainant #1 explained that Werhan would tell her that he wanted to kill her.”

The woman told investigators she eventually left because she believed that if she went back to him, “she would end up dead,” according to the warrant.

Werhan was charged in that case with second-degree strangulation or suffocation, second-degree threatening and disorderly conduct.

State judicial records also show Werhan had another pending case involving alleged domestic violence-related charges from November 2025, including breach of peace, third-degree assault, disorderly conduct, unlawful restraint and threatening. That case listed a $75,000 bond.

Werhan is now being held on a $5 million cash bond in the murder case and was arraigned Wednesday in Torrington Superior Court, WBZ-TV reported. Prosecutors called Werhan an “extreme danger to the community,” according to CBS News.

Beth Murphy described her daughter as kind, artistic and deeply loved.

“So many people said she was my best friend. Like, pretty much everybody said Brooke was my best friend. She had a heart of gold,” she told WBZ-TV.

Murphy would have turned 27 on June 17.

Connecticut State Police said the investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death remains active. News Media reached out to Werhan’s attorney.

Delaware County Double Homicide: Cult Member Michelle Zajko Accused of Killing Parents

    0

MEDIA, Pa. — Authorities have charged a member of the enigmatic group known as Zizians with the murder of her parents in Pennsylvania. Prosecutors disclosed on Wednesday that the accused, celebrating her 30th birthday, was likely not acting alone in this tragic event.

According to Delaware County District Attorney Tanner Rouse, a combination of key evidence—ranging from a neighbor’s doorbell footage to ballistic tests and phone records—strongly implicates Michelle Zajko in the fatal incident involving her parents, Rita and Richard.

The couple met their tragic end on New Year’s Eve 2022 in their daughter’s childhood playroom, surrounded by remnants of her younger years, such as dolls and toys.

“We currently lack specific identities for her accomplices,” stated Rouse, “but we are convinced that Michelle Zajko was present in the house and orchestrated her parents’ demise.”

Michelle Zajko has maintained both her innocence and the innocence of her group in the killing of her parents.

Michelle Zajko has maintained both her innocence and the innocence of her group in the killing of her parents.

New charges have been filed against Zajko, who has been held in Maryland on separate charges since February 2025. These include murder, burglary, and conspiracy linked to her parents’ deaths. Despite allegations, she maintains her innocence, suggesting in court that her father could have killed her mother before ending his own life.

“I didn’t murder my parents,” she wrote in an April 2025 ” Open Letter to the World” that her attorney sent to The Associated Press.

Authorities had long described Zajko as a person of interest.

The two deaths are among six linked to the Zizians, a group of young, highly intelligent computer scientists who appear to share radical beliefs about veganism, animal rights, gender identity and artificial intelligence.

Since 2022, members have been tied to the death of one of their own during an attack on a California landlord, the landlord’s subsequent killing, the Zajkos’ deaths in Pennsylvania, and a highway shootout in Vermont that left a border agent and another Zizian dead.

Ballistics and list of mistakes provided links to Zajko

In the Pennsylvania case, investigators spent years painstakingly collecting evidence, Rouse said, including video from a neighbor’s doorbell camera that captured two people getting out of a car outside the Zajkos’ home in Chester Heights, a voice shouting “Mom!” and another voice exclaiming, “Oh my God! Oh, God, God!”

Authorities haven’t found a weapon, but Zajko made a list describing mistakes such as leaving shell casings behind, he said. Those casings matched ammunition from Zajko’s home in Vermont and from a firing range in her backyard, Rouse said.

“If she wasn’t the one who actually pulled the trigger, she was certainly aligned with those who did,” he said.

Online court records didn’t indicate whether Zajko had an attorney in the Pennsylvania case as of Wednesday. An attorney representing her in Maryland did not respond to a message seeking comment, and the Delaware County Public Defender’s office declined to comment.

Zizians face charges in multiple states

Zajko, now 33, also is charged with providing the gun used to kill U.S. Border Patrol Agent David Maland in January 2025, though nothing has happened in that case.

She was arrested in Maryland a few weeks later along with Daniel Blank and Jack “Ziz” LaSota, whom authorities describe as the group’s leader.

Police who responded to a landowner’s complaint about suspicious people parked in box trucks on his property described them as having “ties with the Zizians Cult” and said they would be questioned about crimes across the country.

All three have pleaded not guilty to charges of trespassing and illegal gun and drug possession, while LaSota also has pleaded not guilty to a federal charge of illegal gun possession by a fugitive. A judge recently granted a defense request for a competency evaluation in the federal case.

In court filings, LaSota’s attorneys said their client eschews the term Zizian and denies that she and her friends have formed a cult. Zajko has claimed authorities arrested the group in Maryland to prevent them from exonerating Teresa Youngblut, who has pleaded not guilty to murder in the Vermont shooting and could face the death penalty if convicted.

Zajko was living with Blank in Vermont at the time of her parents’ deaths and was questioned there by police shortly after they died. A few weeks later, officers briefly took her into custody at a hotel while she was in Pennsylvania for the funeral but released her without charges.

LaSota, staying at the same hotel, was charged with obstructing the homicide investigation and disorderly conduct. Her attorney at the time has said she is innocent of those charges.

Family questions remain unanswered in the Pennsylvania killings

Zajko had been estranged from her parents in the year leading up to their deaths, the prosecutor said. In a January 2022 text message to her father, she complained that her mother had “assumed the worst” about her since she was a child.

“Every time I interact with mom in a nonsuperficial way she spends the time insulting a life she knows nothing about,” Zajko wrote. Hours before her death, Rita Zajko apologized to her daughter and wished her a happy birthday.

“That text went unanswered,” Rouse said.

Richard Zajko’s sister-in-law, Roseanne Zajko, thanked police and prosecutors Wednesday, saying that her family has endured “countless days of darkness and despair” waiting for justice.

“We don’t know yet if the trial will begin to heal the void in our lives and the ache in our hearts, but we do know that the detectives, the DA’s office, and we, the family, have done everything possible to achieve justice for Rick and Rita.”

The prosecutor described their deaths as a crime that “goes beyond comprehension.”

“I can’t wrap my mind around or figure out what led to this point,” he said. “We are clearly talking about someone that has gone down an unimaginably dark road and has led to a tragedy that just defies any sort of description.”

Country Music Star Defends Relationship with Kash Patel Against Online Critics

    0

The younger country music sensation and girlfriend of FBI Director Kash Patel is fending off accusations regarding how she secured a prominent performance opportunity.

Alexis Wilkins, 27, has countered allegations that she landed her role as a ‘feature performer’ for the grand opening of the Great American State Fair on the National Mall due to her connections with the President and her relationship with Patel, who is nearly two decades older than her.

This week, Wilkins was officially confirmed as a performer. She dismissed allegations that taxpayer dollars were funding her involvement, filling a gap left by the Trump-aligned Freedom 250 after its concert roster fell apart.

“I was invited to perform this anthem of my own merit, just as I have done in numerous places throughout my career,” Wilkins stated on social media, addressing her critics. “I am not receiving payment for this esteemed opportunity.”

Earlier this year, the event stirred significant controversy when nearly all initially booked musical acts withdrew from the lineup organized by Freedom 250.

Within days of the original lineup being announced, including stars like Bret Michaels, The Commodores, Martina McBride and more, nearly all withdrew from the fair.

Many of the performers dropped out because of Freedom 250’s ties to the Trump administration. The group has worked on various initiatives to celebrate the nation’s birthday.

President Donald Trump, seeing the many cancellations, announced that he would step in and deliver remarks at the opening ceremony for the Great American State Fair.

‘I get to sing the national anthem on the opening of our nation’s 250th birthday, and that in and of itself, no matter the administration, should be really a universal honor,’ Wilkins told the Daily Mail. ‘So I’m really looking forward to doing it, of course, very honored that I was asked.’

In a defiant tone, the 27-year-old country music singer said she’s been going after those who sow rumors about her.

‘I am happy to correct the narrative when it gets completely off the rails,’ she said in a phone call.

‘I have been a country music artist for years now. I have had a successful career in both music and commentary/strategy. People don’t get to negate that for clicks or headlines.’

Wilkins and Patel have frequently been in the news during Trump’s second term.

Namely, the two have been reported to use Patel’s government-provided jet to travel around together, which the FBI has defended, noting the director must fly on the jet due to security precautions.

Online critics have also baselessly accused Wilkins of being a ‘honeypot,’ to which she has responded with lawsuits.

Kyle M Seraphin is one of the many online voices who has pushed a ‘honey pot’ Israeli spy narrative about Wilkins. She has since sued Seraphin for $5 million, claiming defamation.

Speaking previously to the Daily Mail, she denied the allegations, noting how, during two of the three years she’s been dating Patel, he was not the FBI boss.

As for the 19-year age gap between her and Patel, it’s not uncommon in Trump’s orbit.

‘There are a lot of people in this administration with age differences. There are a lot of people out there with age differences,’ she said previously.

A flyover is planned for the Wednesday evening kickoff ceremony for the fair.

It is expected to include F-16s, F-35As and America’s iconic long-range stealth bomber used recently against Iran, the B-2 Spirit.

Singer of the Trump rally anthem ‘God Bless the USA, ‘ Lee Greenwood, and opera singer Christopher Macchio are also expected to perform on Wednesday evening.

The fair will last until July 10 and feature a booth from all 50 US states and six territories. These pavilions will offer food and souvenirs ranging from Texas barbecue to Alaskan ice carvings and a Hawaiian hula hooping area.

There is also a 110-foot Ferris Wheel on the National Mall adorned with lights for the two-week spectacle.
