A murder trial began Monday for the former husband and in-laws of Hong Kong socialite Abby Choi, more than three years after the discovery of her dismembered remains at a village house shocked a city where violent crime is rare.

Choi’s former husband, Alex Kwong, along with his father, Kwong Kau, and brother, Anthony Kwong, have been accused of killing her in February 2023.

The three defendants face life imprisonment if convicted of murder. They are also charged with preventing the lawful burial of a body.

Choi was 28 and known for documenting her glamorous lifestyle, including photo shoots and fashion events, on Instagram. Just days before her death, she posted about attending a Dior show during Paris Fashion Week.

The killing captured widespread attention in the Asian financial hub, which has a very low level of violent crime. Dozens of people gathered outside the courtroom before the hearing, while a live broadcast was arranged for those unable to enter.

All three defendants wore masks and appeared calm in court. Kwong Kau wore a white T-shirt, while his two sons were dressed in suits.

Police said in 2023 that they discovered some of Choi’s body parts inside a unit in a village in Tai Po, a suburban district of Hong Kong. Officers later searched a landfill as part of their effort to find evidence.

Choi and Alex Kwong had two children together. After their divorce, she remarried and had two younger children with her second husband.

Prosecutors are expected to present their opening case at a later date.

The jury trial is expected to continue for 45 days.

Paris Hilton said she was “heartbroken” following the sudden death of her friend Presley Gerber, who died at 27, as she joined others in paying tribute to him.

The 45-year-old socialite had commented on the model’s final Instagram post just hours before news of his death emerged on Sunday.

Hilton shared a photo of herself with Presley on her Instagram Stories, writing: “I’m completely heartbroken. I still can’t believe this is real.”

“Presley, you were such a beautiful soul — so sweet, sensitive, kind and genuine. I cared about you so much, and I’m going to miss you more than words can say.”

She said she would “cherish the memories” they shared over the years, from “the laughs” and conversations to simply spending time together.

“You had such a gentle heart, and there was something so special about you that anyone lucky enough to know you could feel.”

Hilton continued: “I hope you knew how deeply loved you were and how many people cared about you.”

She concluded her tribute by offering her condolences to Presley’s loved ones.

“My heart is with your entire family during this unimaginable time. Rest in peace, my friend. Love you forever. You will be so deeply missed.”

Just hours before news of his shocking death became public, Hilton had commented on Presley’s August Instagram post, in which he modeled clothing from the brand Vuori.

“Love you bro,” she wrote, adding a heart-face emoji and a heart-hands emoji.

Presley had not posted on his main Instagram feed since sharing the image earlier this year.

His final red carpet appearance came on January 20 at the premiere of Hilton’s documentary, Infinite Icon: A Visual Memoir.

Fans also shared messages of grief and sent condolences to Presley’s family. One person commented on his final Instagram post: “Omg Presley. No words, such a kind soul. Rest easy, sending so much love.”

Entertainment journalist Jason Kennedy also wrote: “Love you Presley.”

A fan added, ‘I am so sorry. This breaks my heart so much. Fly high Presley. God bless you and your family and be with them.’ 

Internet personality Chase Keith said, ‘rest in peace man,’ while actress Larsen Thompson typed, ‘The bravery, courage, strength, and humility you walked in to share your fight.. You will never be forgotten Presley.’ 

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner said that Presley died Sunday at a rehab facility, according to TMZ. His cause of death was not revealed. 

His last Instagram photos showed Presley wearing pieces from the athleisure company while posing outdoors in a black shirt and black track pants.

In some of the images, Presley held a smile on his face while another showed him bending over while laughing during a lighthearted moment.

Four months before his passing, Presley was seen smiling alongside his mom Cindy Crawford and younger sister Kaia Gerber in heartbreaking last public photos.

The model had supported his sibling at the RE/DONE x Kaia Gerber Short/Cuts Launch event in May in L.A. 

His mother as well as dad Rande Gerber had also made an appearance as the family paused for photos together outside. Presley could be seen standing next to his sister while holding a big grin on his face.

Later in the evening, the pair posed for another picture as he wrapped his arm around Kaia in a side embrace.

Crawford’s representative told the Daily Mail in a statement: ‘The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time.’

Last month, Presley’s sister Kaia revealed how his drug use and mental health struggles had affected their family.

‘When something like that happens in a family, it kind of levels everyone,’ she told Vogue.

Last November, Presley revealed he had taken a step back from social media to ‘take care of my own mental health for a bit.’

One month later, he opened up about his personal life in a candid social media video.

Sister, Kaia, said her brother’s troubles made her want to be the ‘easy’ child.

She explained, ‘I think that’s also why I started to self-​identify as the easy one and never wanted to ask for help. Because it felt like too much to have two children who were needing.’

He listed medication he takes for ‘night terrors’ and ‘panic attacks.’

‘I feel like honesty is the best policy,’ he began before sharing that he was on 1mg of Buprenorphine, used to treat both pain and opioid use disorders, twice a day.

Presley also shared that the ‘benzos have been fluctuating up and down depending on what’s been going on in my life.’

Benzodiazepines help ‘slow down activity in your brain and nervous system’ to treat ‘anxiety and related mental health conditions,’ per Cleveland Clinic.

‘Unfortunately, I’ve had a lot of loss in many different forms recently, so that is not an excuse, but it’s the reason why I am where I’m at now,’ he shared.

He did not go into detail about the ‘loss’ he referenced, but went on to explain that he also takes a dose of Xanax at night or when his ‘panic attacks are really, really bad.’

The model then listed Valium, admitting that he didn’t know exactly how much he’d been taking as he said, ‘Who f***ing knows anymore.’

He noted in the Instagram reel that ‘doctors say a lot of different things so it’s kind of scary. But hopefully between my research and their research and the world and God, we can finally figure this out.’

Presley also talked about the lack of ‘direction’ he has from doctors when it comes to his medication.

‘I’d like doctors to be like, “Take this three times a day.” But every psychiatrist I’ve had – and I’ve had 15 – are like, “Here’s 20 medications and take this if you feel like this, take this as needed.”

‘And I’m like, “No, don’t give me that much leeway.” I need some direction,’ he continued.

Sister, Kaia, told Vogue that witnessing her brother’s honesty was ‘refreshing.’

‘My parents for most of our lives were very, very private and didn’t share anything – and now we have this absolute teacher, my brother, who says, “I’m gonna be very human for everyone.” There’s only so much you can hide from the world,’ she said.

‘And trying to put a lid on something just makes the person feel like you’re ashamed of them.’

This past May, Presley expressed gratitude for his father in a heartfelt Instagram post.

He posted a photo of them paddle boarding and wrote, ‘I have the best father in the world. He’s never given up on me. He’s always there for me. Always has the best advice for me.

‘I appreciate this man more than words can explain. I love you pops. To more paddle boarding days around the world.’

Crawford showed her support in the comments, writing, ‘My boys!’ and the father of two wrote, ‘I am honored [to] take this ride called life with you over and over any time. Sometimes we may fall but with a little help always get back up. I love you forever Prez.’

Presley was open about his mental health struggles noting how he had issues from ‘a very young age’ – and labeled it as ‘the ultimate pandemic.’

During an appearance on the Studio 22 podcast in 2023, Presley had shared, ‘It is such a big part of my life. It’s a 24/7 job, and there’s so much to it.

‘That is really what I want to do – help people, whether you’re depressed, you’re struggling with something that is having a negative effect on your body.’

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Chiefs thought a bizarre overtime fumble had secured a victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday night.

Instead, Indianapolis was given an opportunity to win — and chose to settle for a tie.

That decision gave Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs one more chance, and they made the Colts pay for it.

After the teams exchanged field goals in overtime, Mahomes leaned on a pair of strong Kenneth Walker III runs before connecting with his running back for a 22-yard completion. The play set up Harrison Butker’s 40-yard field goal as time expired, giving Kansas City a 33-30 victory. It was the second consecutive year the Chiefs defeated Indianapolis on an overtime field goal.

“I mean, I think guys were resilient, and we just strained to finish,” Mahomes said. “It wasn’t always pretty. There were times we didn’t execute at a high level. But guys continued to fight and continued to push and we found a way at the end.”

Mahomes threw for 382 yards and three touchdowns, while Walker finished with 117 rushing yards. Tight end Travis Kelce also delivered a vintage performance, catching nine passes for 101 yards and a touchdown as the Chiefs moved to 2-0.

The win simply took longer to arrive than Kansas City initially expected.

Butker had given the Chiefs a 31-yard overtime field goal lead, but the Colts responded when Jones went deep to Laquon Treadwell, who had beaten L’Jarius Snead. Treadwell appeared to bobble the ball as he went to the ground, then stood up after completing the catch before the ball was knocked loose. Kansas City recovered, seemingly ending the game.

Officials initially ruled the play a fumble, but a review determined that Treadwell was down by contact. Indianapolis was therefore given a chance to score the go-ahead touchdown, but three plays later the Colts faced fourth-and-8 and a pivotal decision.

“Had a play called. Had to love the look to run it there,” Colts coach Shane Steichen said. “We took the delay and kicked the field goal.”

It proved to be the wrong call.

The Chiefs still had 3:11 remaining in overtime when they took possession. Walker carried three straight times to move Kansas City to midfield, but the Colts began loading the line to slow him down. Mahomes then lofted a well-timed pass to Walker, who turned it into a 22-yard gain and put Butker in position to win the game.

“We had worked throughout the week dropping it over the top,” Mahomes said. “They were in a pressure look. We were able to change the play. You get the ball in his hands, Rashee (Rice) did a great job of blocking on the perimeter. That got us in field goal range.”

It also delivered the Chiefs the victory.

“Overall we fought like crazy,” Steichen said, “but it wasn’t good enough. And then they find a way to make a play at the end.”

Indianapolis’ defense showed little improvement after a disastrous Week 1 performance against Baltimore, which the Colts had attributed to communication issues. They attempted to address the problem by having linebacker Akeem Davis-Gaither communicate the plays instead of safety Cam Bynum, but the change did not prevent Kansas City from moving the ball consistently.

The Chiefs would have scored on each of their first four drives if Butker had not missed a 51-yard field-goal attempt.

Still, the Colts matched Mahomes and the Kansas City offense throughout the first half. Tyler Warren made three catches, including a touchdown, while Josh Downs continued to exploit a Colts secondary playing without safety Chamarri Conner for the second straight game. Jonathan Taylor gained 75 of his rushing yards before halftime, highlighted by a 24-yard touchdown run that gave Indianapolis a 20-17 lead at the break.

The Chiefs allowed Denver to run for just 61 yards total in their 31-10 win last week. 

“We did some good things. Thought the run game was good. Moved the ball. I thought we were pushing,” Jones said. 

Kansas City finally slowed the Colts’ offense by refusing to give them the ball. The Chiefs held it for all but 2:22 of the third quarter, getting a go-ahead TD pass to Jalen Royals and setting up Butker’s field goal to start the fourth. 

Indianapolis answered with an 8 1/2-minute drive that Taylor finished with his second TD run to tie it at 27l with 5:37 to go. 

Neither offense could produce points down the stretch, though, leaving the game to be decided in overtime. 

“It was great that the guys competed for four quarters,” Reid said. “You’re going to have this. The parity in this league is crazy. You’re going to have some once-score games. You have to bear down and and our guys did that.”

Patrick Clancy has recounted the haunting answer his former wife gave when he asked whether she remembered killing their three children.

Clancy, who now lives in New York City with his wife, Dr. Rachel Danis, spoke publicly for the first time about the January 2023 deaths of Cora, five, Dawson, three, and eight-month-old Callan.

He had been running errands before returning to the family’s home in Duxbury, Massachusetts, where he found Lindsay Clancy, his then-wife, lying in the backyard.

Inside the basement, he discovered the couple’s children after Lindsay had strangled them. Cora and Dawson were pronounced dead, while Callan was taken to a hospital. The infant died four days later in his father’s arms, Patrick said.

When Patrick later asked Lindsay whether she remembered what had happened, he said she described the events as being “like a dream.”

“She remembered it much in the way you would remember a dream after waking up,” he said.

During the interview, CBS journalist Ross Douthat asked Patrick whether he believed he had failed during that period or had done the best he could under the circumstances.

“I think I did the best I could with what I had at the time. And I live with the outcome. I live with it every day,” Patrick replied. He also said he had forgiven his former wife.

Patrick said he first realized Lindsay was struggling when Callan was five months old and she went several nights without sleeping.

“She came downstairs one morning and said, ‘I didn’t sleep at all last night.’ I told her, ‘That’s awful. I’ll take the kids to school. You just focus on getting caught up on sleep,’” he recalled.

Her condition continued to deteriorate, with Patrick describing December 2022 as the most difficult period.

“December was a big struggle for her — a huge lack of sleep, deep, deep depression and intrusive thoughts. At the end of that month, she went to the hospital,” he said.

On New Year’s Day, Lindsay entered an inpatient treatment program at McLean Hospital in Boston.

Later that same month, she killed the couple’s three children.

In the Sunday night interview, Patrick also described the painful final hours he spent with Callan.

After learning that the baby was still alive, he hurried to the hospital, holding on to hope that at least one of his children might survive.

“I really thought there was a chance that Callan would live,” Patrick said through tears.

‘And remember just thinking, “Just gimme one. Just gimme one kid,” and I would raise him as best I could, and I would give him the best life I possibly could. I’d tell him about his brother and sister.

‘And I was holding out hope for that. And then when I got to the hospital, I saw the doctor. I saw the look on her face, and I knew that it wasn’t going to be a good prognosis. 

‘Callan’s heart kept beating for four days. I’m so grateful for those four days that I had with him. And I’m so grateful he hung on.’ 

Patrick told Douthat that he spoke to his baby son in those four days, telling him that he was ‘sorry’. 

He also said he experienced suicidal thoughts and was content with not making it to his next birthday following their deaths.

‘There was a time where I didn’t think I would live to see my 35th birthday, and I was completely fine with it,’ he said. 

Patrick recalled seeing Clancy’s mental health deteriorate in the lead-up to the killings.

Patrick testified at Clancy’s trial that she had asked him to go to collect a takeout order and medicine for Cora on the evening of the killings.

Clancy has never denied killing the kids, but did plead not guilty by reason of insanity, citing severe postpartum depression and psychosis.  

During his interview, he admitted that getting on the stand was ‘very difficult’ and that he suffered a severe anxiety attack just before the court heard the 911 call he made that fateful night.

The public was not allowed to hear the call, but everyone inside the courtroom, including Patrick, did.

‘We did take a break right before they played the 911 call, which I knew was gonna be just horrific,’ he recalled.

‘And I went to a back room, and I started having this massive traumatic panic attack. 

‘My heart was pounding. And they put me in an ambulance they offered me some medication, but I said, “I– I don’t want it, because I want to go back and I want to finish this so I can be done with this”. And I went back and I finished the testimony.’

Toward the end of the interview, Patrick was joined by his new wife Dr Rachel Danis.

They got married in April in New York City, and said that they are ‘starting a family’ without confirming if they are currently expecting.

‘I think every parent can agree, you have different relationships with your kids, but they’re all your kids. And I can’t wait to tell them about their brothers and sister,’ Patrick said.
