Athena Strand Case: What’s Next for Tanner Horner After Conviction?

A FedEx driver named Tanner Horner has been handed a death sentence for the murder of Athena Strand. As the verdict has been delivered, what are the next steps?

Oxygen explores the future for Horner, who confessed to the crime in a Fort Worth, Texas courtroom in April 2026, as reported by NBC News.

The 34-year-old was sentenced after admitting to charges of capital murder and aggravated kidnapping, stemming from the tragic events of 2022. His unexpected plea came just as his trial was about to commence in Texas.

Horner was sentenced to death on May 5 after just three hours of deliberation, as seen in footage from the court room. He had no visible reaction to the sentence.

What happens with Tanner Horner now?

Horner will now be housed at the Allan B. Polunsky Unit, a notorious prison situated near Houston, Texas, according to the New York Post. Inmates on death row in this facility endure solitary confinement, spending a minimum of 22 hours daily in their 60-square-foot cells.

He will remain there until his execution by lethal injection. However, due to the appeals process in Texas, it may be several years before the sentence is carried out. This process is automatically initiated for anyone condemned to capital punishment in the state, as outlined in a guide by the Texas Attorney General’s Office.

There will be “often more than one execution date” set in a case, per the handbook. Only once appeals are exhausted and the convicted inmate “has exercised all rights to appeal with no relief and any requested clemency is denied,” the execution will take place.

Horner’s surviving family members have “the right to request to view the execution,” according to the handbook.

Athena Strand’s family speaks out

Following the verdict, Strand’s uncle Elijah Strand directly addressed Horner in a statement read in the courtroom.

“You did not just take a life, you destroyed a family,” he said, per WFAA. “You took a girl who trusted the world and repaid that innocence with violence. You chose to cause pain that will last generations. You say you found god but what you did to Athena stands in direct opposition to everything that you now claim to believe.”

“I want you to know that you are nothing,” he continued. “You are a footnote in Athena’s story. Her name will forever be remembered. Her name will forever be celebrated. And everyone will forget you. You wanted your fifteen minutes of fame, you got it, and no one’s gonna remember you after this.”

Unveiling the Contradictions: DSA-Backed LA Candidate’s $2.5M Venice Home Sparks Debate Amid Renters’ Advocacy

0

A self-proclaimed advocate for struggling renters in Los Angeles is leading a rather opulent lifestyle, as uncovered by the California Post.

Faizah Malik, 41, a candidate endorsed by the Democratic Socialists of America, is running against moderate Councilmember Traci Park, 50, on Los Angeles’ Westside. Her campaign is primarily focused on rent reform and housing affordability. Despite her political stance, Malik resides in a luxurious $2.5 million mansion located in Venice Beach.

The expansive residence is situated on a 5,780-square-foot lot that boasts a private, enclosed yard. Inside, the home features sunlit interiors and upscale finishes.

Among its amenities, the property includes a sleek all-white kitchen equipped with stainless steel appliances, several bedrooms with access to private balconies, and a deck designed for alfresco dining—a rare indulgence in this pricey area.

Nestled in the Penmar neighborhood near the Penmar Golf Course, this area is characterized by single-family homes with prices ranging from $1.7 million to $4 million.

Zillow listing has the property’s rental estimate at $8,000 a month, a far cry from the struggling renters she claims she will represent.

The average Angeleno pays up to $3,000 for a place to live, according to a March rental market trends report by Zumper.

Only nine percent pay more than $6,000 a month for rent.

But when The Post contacted Malik, her spokeswoman suggested she too was feeling the squeeze: “On the Westside, there are renters that are in every possible financial situation, and there are homeowners who are feeling enormous financial pressure as well.

“Faizah’s record demonstrates her commitment to the ideals put forward in our campaign, that every person in our city should have a dignified life.”

Her campaign also said that while Faizah believes ”that people from any background can certainly be credible advocates for tenants.

”The fact that she herself is a renter does give Faizah credibility on tenant advocacy issues, because she is able to speak from her lived experience.

”Faizah and her husband represent a large segment of Los Angeles, millennials that are priced out of home ownership.”

Barry Cassilly, a Venice resident active in Westside politics, told the Post: “Faizah Malik trying to pass herself off as a humble renter is offensively insulting to people’s intelligence given that she lives in a large, multi-million dollar home in one of the more exclusive parts of the sixth most expensive neighborhood in Los Angeles.”

The Malik’s mansion clashes directly with core DSA housing ideology, which calls for shifting away from private, profit-driven housing toward publicly owned models.

DSA’s own platform says “social housing” should redistribute land from private owners to the public and challenge the foundation of private property itself, not just make housing more affordable.

Malik’s campaign site touts years spent defending renters and pushing for affordable housing, promising she will fight for safer streets, expand bike and bus lanes, and protect vulnerable road users.

It also underscores her call to build more housing — especially in the job-rich, housing-starved Westside district.

Malik husband, Zaahir Syed, 44, is a senior managing director at CBRE Investment Banking, advising major real estate players on how to raise and deploy capital.

His background includes capital-raising roles at a Manhattan-based real estate investment fund.

He also founded and chaired the Detroit Foundation, focused on urban revitalization.

The couple has two children who attend an elite private school, in which her husband has been on the board since 2024.

Annual tuition is $41,500, with additional costs including a $200 family community fee, $1,000 per child for student activities, and a $200 capital fee, all before factoring in optional monthly payment handling charges.

Malik herself is a top attorney at Public Counsel, where she serves as managing attorney on tenant rights issues.

She works closely with advocacy coalitions including the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles — the same social justice group that just landed a roughly $106 million contract from the City to push aggressive tenant protections, land-use mandates and development battles.

Those efforts have been backed by fellow DSA ally and Los Angeles mayoral hopeful Nithya Raman, who herself lives in a $1.9 million home.

Malik has planted herself at the center of one of the Westside’s ugliest fights: the Venice Dell project.

She helped lead the legal charge, suing Karen Bass and Councilmember Traci Park, to force through an “affordable” housing development with a staggering price tag of roughly $1.2 million per unit.

While pushing the lawsuit that could saddle taxpayers with another expensive housing project, Malik is also warning City Hall is already bleeding cash because of raises for the LAPD and LAFD.

Tragic Oregon Standoff: Officer Shot and Multiple Casualties in Heartbreaking Barricade Situation

0

An Oregon police officer was seriously injured after being shot multiple times on Sunday while addressing a domestic disturbance incident that tragically resulted in multiple fatalities, as confirmed by authorities.

The incident unfolded when officers from the Sandy Police Department, alongside the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, responded to an urgent call. The report pointed to a domestic disturbance and shooting on the 39000 block of Evans Street in Sandy, located approximately 30 miles east of Portland. The call came in just before 4 p.m.

Upon arrival, the situation escalated as gunfire erupted. Law enforcement officers engaged in the exchange, during which one officer sustained several gunshot wounds.

Following the incident, the injured officer was swiftly airlifted to a nearby hospital via Life Flight. According to the Sandy Police Department, the officer is expected to survive the ordeal.

In a brief news conference held on Sunday, Sandy Police Chief Patrick Huskey addressed the media regarding the unfolding events.

“The officer is in stable condition, and I’m extremely thankful that I can tell you that they are expected to survive,” Sandy Police Chief Patrick Huskey said at a brief news conference on Sunday. “There are multiple victims deceased at this time.”

Authorities have not released the number of victims or how they died.

The suspect barricaded inside the home, triggering a massive response from multiple law enforcement agencies and prompting shelter-in-place orders for nearby residents.

After several hours, the suspect surrendered shortly before 8 p.m. and was taken into custody without injury, police said.

The deaths are being investigated as a homicide, according to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.

“Our thoughts are with the recovering officer, the homicide victims, their families, the entire Sandy community,” the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “We are also thinking of the first responders who faced significant danger on Sunday.”

The agency added that it is providing full support to the Sandy Police Department as investigators work to navigate the aftermath of the incident.

Following the suspect’s arrest, authorities lifted the shelter-in-place order and said there was no ongoing threat to the community.

In a statement, Sandy Mayor Kathleen Walker called the shooting an “unimaginable loss of lives” and urged residents to support victims’ families and first responders.

“This tragedy reaches beyond the neighborhood where it happened. It reaches the families and friends of the victims, and the neighbors who witnessed the shootings and aftermath,” Walker said.

“We honor our city police officers who answered the call, and the officer that was wounded. It shakes our community to its core.”

Sandy Police told News Media they had no additional information to share.

The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office and the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to News Media’s request for comment.

Tiffany Henyard and Family of Dolton Shooting Victim Khapri Alston Seek Clarity from Dolton Police Department on Investigation

0

An intense city council meeting unfolded in Dolton, Illinois, on Monday night as community members rallied around a grieving family seeking justice.

Khapri Alston’s mother took a stand against the Dolton police and city officials after her son’s tragic death on May 21, which occurred outside a local business on the 14100-block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watch

Authorities had detained an individual in connection with the incident but released them without charges. During the meeting, attendees voiced suspicions that the individual might hold significant influence within Dolton.

Alston’s father expressed deep sorrow, sharing that the “process is painful” and that he is haunted by the image of his son lying lifeless.

The shooting has ignited widespread anger in a village already familiar with turmoil. Former Mayor Tiffany Henyard made an appearance after the meeting, joining the call for accountability.

“Remember when it was me, for any little thing, I got broadcast all over the news, but now that this tragedy happened in Dolton, no one is talking about it. Like, it is getting swept under the rug,” Henyard said.

Other supporters say the case illustrates police shortcomings in Dolton and that the state should do an independent investigation of what happened to Alston.

“They are incompetent they are corrupt, and there needs to be a formal investigation into Dolton PD,” said Dolton resident Trina Downs.

“Elected officials are the ones you hold accountable. Hold them accountable. Make them give you answers for a senseless situation that did not have to happen,” Henyard said.

The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office issued a statement, saying, “The CCSAO has not been contacted by law enforcement to review this case for criminal charges. As in every case, prosecutors must evaluate all of the available evidence and consider the applicable laws to determine whether we can meet the legal standard for bringing criminal charges. We remain open to reviewing any information that is brought to us by law enforcement.”

Utah Real Estate Heir Initiates $100 Million Lawsuit Alleging Post-Soccer Game Abuse

0

Jeff Dewsnup, a soccer prodigy whose talent promised a stellar career, seemed poised for greatness after delivering one of the most remarkable rookie seasons on record.

At just 15 years old, the towering 6-foot-1 goalkeeper made history by becoming the youngest player ever signed to the first team of Major League Soccer’s Real Salt Lake.

Despite receiving scholarship offers from prestigious universities like Stanford, Columbia, Princeton, and Wake Forest, Dewsnup also caught the eye of international soccer clubs such as Fulham, Crystal Palace, and PSV Eindhoven, all eager to secure his talents.

However, in a surprising turn of events in April 2022, Dewsnup stunned the soccer community by stepping away from the sport. He later revealed that his decision was driven by a deep sense of misery, to the point where he considered self-harm.

The reasons behind his abrupt departure were initially vague, but a recent $100 million lawsuit has brought to light allegations of sexual harassment by teammates during what was described as cruel hazing “games.”

Dewsnup claimed he was traumatized as grown men mocked the size of his penis, waved their genitals at him, and threw soccer balls at his naked bottom.

The lawsuit against RSL, the US Soccer Federation and Major League Soccer, filed in Utah’s Third District Court, also claimed coaches forced him to train on an injured shoulder.

Allegedly suffering from PTSD, Dewsnup, now 22, claimed he would need $20 million in psychiatric treatment and demanded another $80 million for the pro career the abuse robbed him of.

‘Plaintiff seeks to hold defendants accountable for… committing intentional acts of abuse that destroyed [his] career and caused him to attempt suicide,’ the lawsuit read.

Growing up in Herriman, Utah, Dewsnup’s childhood dream was always to play soccer.

Even as a boy of five or six, he was running around the field in a tiny RSL jersey getting autographs from the team he would one day play for.

His parents, Darin and Melanie Dewsnup, drove him an hour north almost every day from their 7,000sqft six-bedroom mansion to play for his local junior club La Roca FC.

The couple, who are worth millions of dollars, provided the young star with the ideal launching pad for even the greater riches of a pro career.

Darin, a managing director for investments at Wells Fargo’s Salt Lake City office, is entrusted with more than $2 billion in client funds.

Dewsnup’s sister Abby Johnson is a popular author of Mormon literature, and the whole family is active in the church.

The family also owns 12 plots of land totaling 2,221 acres worth $1.2 million around Soldier Summit, a ghost town at the top of Spanish Fork Canyon.

Developers have been trying to turn the desolate but spectacular area holiday destination since the 1980s. Their attempts ended in ugly lawsuits by the early 2000s, but investors like the Dewsnups hope to cash in if it ever happens.

Dewsnup’s career took off after he joined the RSL Academy aged 14 and was called up to both the under-15 and under-17 Team USA sides.

Then in December 2020, the 16-year-old became the youngest player signed by the team with a four-year professional contract.

‘Jeff is a fantastic young goalkeeper with an extremely bright future in the game,’ then-RSL general manager Elliot Fall said at the time.

‘As a Herriman native, he is a further testament to our investment in development and soccer in our community.’

Dewsnup’s lawsuit claimed the euphoria was short lived, as his new, much older, teammates – named in the complaint as Aaron Herrera, David Ochoa, Tate Schmitt and, Justen Glad – allegedly began hazing him in the shared locker room.

Herrera, a veteran player now at DC United, allegedly exposed his genitals to Dewsnup and jumped up and down to wave them around.

‘Herrera looked directly at [Dewsnup] while doing so, and the conduct was done with the intent to arouse or gratify Herrera’s own sexual desire or to humiliate and sexually exploit him,’ the lawsuit claimed.

Herrera and Ochoa were also accused of making repeated sexual comments about the teenager’s genitals while he was changing and showering.

‘Ochoa said to other players within [Dewsnup’s] hearing, “Look at his [penis]” followed by laughter. On separate occasions, Defendant Herrera made similar comments,’ the complaint claimed.

The lawsuit claimed the duo joined with Schmitt and Glad to throw a soccer ball at Dewsnup’s naked buttocks as he ran around the locker room.

‘They repeatedly attempted to hit [Dewsnup’s] naked buttocks with a ball, laughing and taunting him when he expressed discomfort. [Dewsnup] was forced to dodge the ball while naked,’ the lawsuit claimed.

‘The conduct was not accidental; it was a repeated ‘game’ specifically targeting [Dewsnup] because he was a minor and because he had expressed discomfort.’

Dewsnup began waiting two hours after training to shower so he could avoid his teammates and their alleged abuse, the lawsuit claimed.

‘Other minors on the US National Team also expressed their discomfort to [Melanie] Dewsnup and being uncomfortable in the first-team locker room and they were also exposed to bullying and harassment,’ the lawsuit added.

The lawsuit claimed RSL coaches weren’t much better, and he was frequently belittled in front of the team for complaining he was injured.

RSL goalkeeping coach Ignacio Hernandez was singled out for allegedly forcing him to train on an injured shoulder, causing the problem to worsen.

‘Hernandez repeatedly accused [Dewsnup] of faking his shoulder injury, called him a liar in front of other players and staff, and forced him to train on an injured shoulder by threatening verbal abuse if he refused, and constantly verbally abused Mr Dewsnup during practices,’ the lawsuit claimed.

The complaint also accused Hernandez of ‘mishandling’ Dewsnup’s foot and hip injuries.

Darin Dewsnup reported the alleged bullying and poor injury treatment to the team several times, but it ‘did nothing’, according to the civil complaint.

The lawsuit accused RSL of failing in its duty of care to protect an underage player from abuse by adult teammates, and provide him with medical care.

‘RSL placed its own financial and reputational interests above [Dewsnup’s] safety, intentionally sacrificing a minor child’s well being to avoid the inconvenience and expense of implementing child protection measures,’ the lawsuit claimed.

Dewsnup should have had an adult participant personal care assistant to supervise his activities, and didn’t train staff to properly safeguard him, it argued.

The club also allegedly failed to make mandatory reports to police or the US Center for SafeSport when told of the locker room hazing.

SafeSport’s Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policies noted young athletes were ‘especially vulnerable to abuse in changing areas where they are undressing and possibly showering’.

‘Appropriate monitoring is necessary in these areas to prevent abuse and other inappropriate conduct,’ the policy added.

By April 2022, the lawsuit claimed Dewsnup was so traumatized that he was rushed to hospital after attempting suicide.

‘[Dewsnup] now suffers from post traumatic stress disorder, severe emotional distress, and permanent loss of his soccer career,’ the lawsuit claimed.

He was forced to ‘resign entirely from soccer altogether given the experiences with no desire to go back’.

The lawsuit insisted Dewsnup did not have pre-existing health issues and his condition was caused solely by his treatment at RSL.

After he told RSL of his decision in April 2022, the complaint claimed he was presented with a resignation document and told to sign it on the spot.

That document included a ‘release of claims’ clause that banned him from suing the club, which his lawyers argued was unenforceable.

Dewsnup’s lawsuit asked the court to throw out the declaration as he was 17, under duress, and not allowed to consult a lawyer or his parents.

‘Any payment made was nominal or was compensation already owed to plaintiff for work performed,’ the lawsuit claimed.

‘A release that would deprive a minor victim of the right to sue his abusers is unconscionable as a matter of law.’

RSL denied the allegations and said the team takes athlete safety ‘extremely seriously.’

‘The club is aware of a complaint filed by a former professional player and firmly denies the allegations,’ RSL said in a statement. ‘The club will vigorously defend itself through the legal process.’

MLS called the allegations ‘serious’ and said the League would review them.

‘Player safety and well-being are core priorities for the League,’ the league said in a statement.

‘We are committed to maintaining standards, policies, and reporting processes intended to promote a safe environment and compliance with applicable SafeSport standards.’

They added: ‘Based on the information available to us, we believe the League conducted itself appropriately.’

None of the players or coaches named in the complaint would comment.

Dewsnup never spoke about the alleged abuse, and filed the lawsuit days before his 22nd birthday – the deadline for the court to hear his case.

The closest he came was an interview with Sportbible in January 2023 where he complained he ‘wasn’t always treated the best’ by his teammates.

Dewsnup explained that though he performed well on the pitch, his mental health was in a dangerous spiral whenever he was off it.

‘When I was playing, I would feel like a monster. I’d just put it all away and go out and play, and I’d do well,’ he said.

‘But you’re only playing for 90 minutes and then you have the rest of your life to live. And I was really struggling outside of that.’

By March 2022, he was at such a low point that ‘nothing seemed to make me feel happy’.

‘I isolated myself for four or five days. I was just tired of feeling the way I was feeling. I wasn’t happy. I was miserable. It was making me become a person I didn’t want to be,’ he said.

‘I didn’t have any motivation for life in general. I’d just play my guitar in my room. That was probably the lowest point. I didn’t go out much. I had thoughts of self harm.’

Once he hung up his boots for good, his life improved when he threw himself into music, which he said ‘absolutely saved my life’.

Dewsnup released his first song later in 2022 and in August 2024 his first solo album including a song about sexual abuse that helped work through his trauma.

He is now one half of Cove Grove, alongside his fiancee Carmen Roadifer, to whom he got engaged in June 2023.

The almost-star said he knew many of his fans wouldn’t understand why he gave it all away.

‘It’s still not easy for anyone in the soccer world but ultimately, I don’t really care because it’s my life,’ he said.

Discover the Must-Watch Found Footage Film by Director Curry Barker That Obsession Fans Can’t Miss!

The innovative found footage film “Milk & Serial” features Curry Barker as Milk and Cooper Tomlinson from “Obsession” as Seven, two friends who operate a prank video channel. Their antics escalate when they stage a scene where a seemingly random man appears to have killed one of their friends at Milk’s birthday bash. What begins as innocent prank escalation soon takes a dark turn as the narrative shifts focus to Milk’s private life. Without giving too much away, Milk is harboring a significant secret from his companions.

Initially, Curry Barker sought a distribution deal for “Milk & Serial,” but he ultimately chose to self-release the film. Concerned that fans might struggle to find the movie, Barker opted to debut it on his YouTube channel. “We just wanted the best home for it,” Barker shared with Variety. “Despite working hard for a year to secure distribution, we decided to say ‘screw it’ and put it on YouTube.”

This decision proved wise as the film gained traction online, accumulating 2.8 million views. This wasn’t Barker’s first viral success on YouTube. In 2023, he released the short film “The Chair,” about the eerie experience of bringing a mysterious chair home. It amassed 9.9 million views, opening doors for Barker to pitch “Obsession” to industry executives and secure a film deal.

YouTube helped put Curry Barker on the map

Barker is among several YouTubers transitioning to mainstream film. Kane Parsons, known as Kane Pixels, adapted the “The Backrooms” creepypasta into a successful 2026 film. Chris Stuckmann, also a YouTuber, secured a distribution deal with Neon for his horror movie “Shelby Oaks” in 2024 after building anticipation with online videos. Similarly, Danny and Michael Philippou, the minds behind 2022’s “Talk to Me,” honed their filmmaking skills on YouTube before their feature debut. The platform continues to launch the next wave of horror directors, and “Milk & Serial” serves as a compelling introduction to Barker’s creative talents.

It turned out to be the best way forward. The film became popular on social media, and today has 2.8 million views. But this wasn’t the first time Barker had a project go viral on YouTube. In 2023, the director posted “The Chair,” a short film about bringing a mysterious chair home. It went on to garner 9.9 million views on the platform and led to Barker getting the opportunity to pitch “Obsession” to executives and land a film deal.

Barker also isn’t the only YouTuber to make the jump to the big screen recently. Kane Parsons, known as Kane Pixels on the platform, created a web series based on the creepypasta “The Backrooms,” turning it into the hit 2026 movie “Backrooms.” YouTuber Chris Stuckmann secured a distribution deal with Neon for his horror film “Shelby Oaks” in 2024 after teasing it with a collection of videos, while the directors of 2022’s “Talk to Me,” Danny Philippou and Michael Philippou, used YouTube to develop their filmmaking skills for their first feature. YouTube is helping catapult the next generation of horror directors, and watching “Milk & Serial” should be your first stop to see more of Barker’s work.

Massive Meteor Strikes New England: Elephant-Sized Space Rock Sparks Widespread Curiosity

Over the weekend, a double boom reverberated across New England, rattling homes and sending pets into a frenzy. The unexpected noise sparked a wave of questions on social media platforms.

“Did anyone else hear that boom?” users questioned.

“Did you feel that?” others echoed.

Initially, NASA confirmed that a meteor had caused the disturbance. By Monday, they provided even more intriguing details.

The meteor, described as weighing as much as an elephant and measuring five feet (1.52 meters) in diameter, was traveling at a staggering speed of 42,000 mph (67,593 kph) when it entered Earth’s atmosphere. The celestial object disintegrated miles above New England, releasing energy comparable to 230 tons of TNT, which explains the loud booms.

NASA revealed the jaw-dropping details in a social media post Monday along with other statistics.

The meteor was made up of natural material — not a satellite or space debris — and traveled through the atmosphere for about 26 miles (41.8 kilometers), according to NASA, before falling into Cape Cod Bay, which sits along southeastern Massachusetts.

The agency was quick to point out that meteors are very common, but typically don’t have as big of an audience as this one.

“They often occur over the ocean or unpopulated areas with no witnesses, or during the daytime, making them difficult to spot,” according to NASA.

The event prompted widespread speculation initially.

The rattling boom had some people in Massachusetts and Rhode Island thinking there had been an earthquake or that a tree had fallen. Others posted that their dogs were freaking out. At least one person posed the possibility of aliens.

A man in Peabody, Massachusetts, posted that it had been a windy day, so he thought a large tree had hit his house. When he came outside, he said, he found most of his neighbors in the street asking the same questions.

Several people filed reports with the U.S. Geological Survey, registering the shaking they felt with the National Earthquake Information Center, Steve Sobie, an agency spokesman, confirmed.

The agency opened an event page, based on the number of “Did you feel it?” reports it received on its website. But Sobie said there was no event registered on the agency’s seismographs. meaning the shaking was not due to an earthquake.

The American Meteor Society received dozens of reports from Delaware to Montreal with people either hearing the double boom, feeling the ground shake or seeing the fireball, its program monitor, Robert Lunsford, said.

Father Sustains Multiple Gunshot Wounds Near Skate Park; Wife Urgently Seeks Answers

Inset: Jacob Hensley (KUSA/YouTube). Background: The area around the Denver Skatepark, near where Jacob Hensley was shot to death (Google Maps).

A tragic incident unfolded in Denver when a father of four was discovered gravely injured near a local skate park, having suffered five gunshot wounds. The incident occurred shortly after he had a conversation with his wife and then stepped outside. The accused shooter has claimed the act was in self-defense, according to the victim’s spouse.

“He never came back,” expressed Allison Hensley, the widow of Jacob Hensley, during an interview with the local NBC affiliate, KUSA. “It doesn’t add up at all,” she added, questioning the circumstances surrounding her husband’s death.

Jacob Hensley, aged 28, had reportedly been out drinking on the evening of Thursday, May 21, before returning to the apartment he shared with his wife and children, Allison Hensley recounted.

“The kids were going to sleep, and he was stumbling,” she recalled in the interview with KUSA. “I told him he needed to either leave or go to another room.” Subsequently, Jacob decided to head back outside.

Within less than an hour of leaving, authorities found Jacob Hensley critically injured near the Denver Skatepark, located at the junction of 20th and Little Raven Streets. “He was shot five times,” Allison Hensley revealed to KUSA, describing the act as “overkill.”

Allison Hensley said her husband did not drink regularly, so when he did that night he was “so drunk he couldn’t stand up.” She described him as a “great dad” and “amazing person” who was “very intelligent” and “very driven.”

According to her, police allege that Jacob was shot by a person in a car who is claiming self-defense, which she said did not make sense.

“Someone who can’t even stand up and you have a car and a gun,” Allison Hensley said. “I don’t believe that he was attacking anyone. I just don’t. That’s just not who he was.”

Jacob Hensley was known to carry a pocketknife on him that he used for work as a general contractor, but his wife told KUSA he would never threaten someone with it.

“He’s pulling knives on people? That’s insane,” Allison Hensley said. “I hope that there’s justice for my kids,” she told KUSA. “He did not deserve to die.”

Police say when they found Jacob Hensley, he was critically wounded. Paramedics transported him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

“Investigators are in contact with everyone involved in this incident,” the Denver Police Department posted on X. “The investigation is ongoing. No arrests at this time.”

Allison Hensley, who was married to Jacob for 10 years, wrote on Facebook that her husband’s death “was sudden and violent.” She said her family is “still trying to process this unimaginable loss.”

LA’s Real Estate Market Faces New Challenges: What Does This Mean for Homeowners?

0

Los Angeles is losing its appeal as a hotspot for international real estate investors.

Once a top destination for buyers from abroad, the allure of LA has diminished over the past six years. Currently, it attracts less than 5% of foreign investors, while cities like Miami capture over 10% of this market.

At first glance, this might seem like a win for local buyers, as it could mean less competition.

However, the reality is that property prices across the broader LA metropolitan area continue to rise, despite a slight dip in LA County itself.

Ultimately, the decline in foreign buyer interest is difficult to frame as a positive development for the market.

Not that some won’t try.

San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria claimed last week that his city was improving housing because it “is no longer a top 10 most expensive rental market.”

There might be other reasons — like beaches polluted with sewage from Mexico, a budget crisis at city hall, and new proposed real estate taxes.

Likewise with LA. It’s not a good thing that the world is taking less interest in LA property.

Especially when the 2028 Olympics are on their way — which should spur interest among investors.

The fact is that investors overseas are reading the news.

They saw the wildfires on television. They read reports about homelessness, and open-air drug use.

They know Measure ULA will slap a tax on sellers of high-end properties — and that the City Council has failed to get rid of it.

International investors are losing interest in LA real estate for the same reason tens of thousands of residents are leaving.

The city no longer works for hard-working people. And it doesn’t provide services, or security, in return for high state and local taxes.

Miami has rocketed into the lead because it offers low taxes and a business-friendly environment.

It has the culture of a big city. It has safe, clean streets. And Florida has learned how to manage natural disasters.

LA should be tops — we have better weather, for one thing.

But we are failing at the basics of governance.

Lack of international real estate interest is yet another red flag.

It doesn’t just mean that big spenders aren’t buying big houses.

It means our economy as a whole is viewed as an unsafe bet.

If we don’t turn things around, not even the Olympics will save us.

We have a choice in this election. We can save our city, and our state.

Or we can accept the status quo, and watch the city we love continue to decline.

Shocking Random Attack: Atlanta Train Passenger Brutally Stabbed 20 Times in Broad Daylight

In a tragic incident on a MARTA train, a 66-year-old woman from Atlanta was fatally stabbed in what authorities have described as a random act of violence.

The victim has been identified as Margaret Swan by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office. She was attacked while the train was traveling between the Lakewood-Fort McPherson and Oakland City stations, according to MARTA Police Chief Scott Kreher.

“This appears to be a senseless act of violence, and our thoughts are with the victim’s loved ones and those who witnessed this horrific incident,” MARTA expressed in a statement.

John Elijah Matthews, 25, has been charged with malice murder in connection with the death of Swan on the public transportation system.

According to the warrant obtained by FOX 5 Atlanta, the passenger was sitting alone on the train when Matthews began the alleged stabbing attack.

At 11:21 on Saturday, the CCTV reportedly showed Swan sitting alone on the train car. Just before 11:25, Matthews is seen on board, walking to the side of the train where Swan was sitting, standing near her alone.

Matthews, 19 seconds later, “is seen walking up to (Swan) and standing just to her right.”

Several seconds later, he allegedly took out a knife, opened it and cut the victim in the throat. 11Alive reported that Swan was stabbed 18 to 20 times in an unprovoked attack.

During the attack, the warrant said, the victim was screaming for help as she was continuing to get stabbed. The suspect was then seen on the CCTV cameras “throwing [Swan] to the floor and standing near her until the train arrived at the Oakland City Station,” less than two minutes later, according to the warrant.

When the train arrived at Oakland City, according to the warrant, Matthews got out with a knife still in hand as officers rushed to the scene. Matthews was arrested and charged shortly after.

Emergency medical workers attempted life-saving efforts, but Swan died on the scene.
