Reviving Faith: Embracing Prayer, Praise, and the Bible Again

0

This past Sunday, May 17, 2026, the Freedom 250 organization orchestrated an event titled “Rededicate 250: A National Jubilee of Prayer, Praise, and Thanksgiving.” As expected, some media outlets responded with skepticism and derision, choosing not to amplify the event’s message. However, a congregation of the faithful assembled in Washington DC to stand firm against what they perceive as progressive forces, determined to remain steadfast in their beliefs.

In alignment with this spirit, the latest episode of Cephas Hour delves into scriptural readings and musical pieces that echo these Biblical themes. The show is available for on-demand listening through its website and most podcast platforms—excluding Spotify, which has not embraced this content. Listeners are encouraged to tune in, hoping it provides support and inspiration.

— Isaiah 61:1-3

The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
 to comfort all who mourn,
and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
      instead of ashes,
the oil of joy

      instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise

instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,

      a planting of the Lord
for the display of his splendor.

Isaiah 61:1-3

Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another — and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Hebrews 10:19-25

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort.

2 Corinthians 1:3-7

At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do.

“All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Matthew 11:25-30

Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah: “Leave here, turn eastward and hide in the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan. You will drink from the brook, and I have directed the ravens to supply you with food there.”

So he did what the Lord had told him. He went to the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan, and stayed there. The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook.

1 Kings 17:2-6

It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age and who have fallen away, to be brought back to repentance. To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace. Land that drinks in the rain often falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is farmed receives the blessing of God. But land that produces thorns and thistles is worthless and is in danger of being cursed. In the end it will be burned.

Hebrews 6:4-8

(F)or I know that through your prayers and God’s provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance. I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body. Convinced of this, I know that I will remain, and I will continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith, so that through my being with you again your boasting in Christ Jesus will abound on account of me.

Philippians 1:19-26

And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.” Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.

At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my clothes?”

“You see the people crowding against you,” his disciples answered, “and yet you can ask, ‘Who touched me?’ ”

But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.”

Mark 5:25-34

Cast your cares on the Lord
      and he will sustain you;
he will never let
      the righteous be shaken.
But you, God, will bring down the wicked
      into the pit of decay;
the bloodthirsty and deceitful
will not live out half their days.

But as for me, I trust in you.

Psalm 55:22-23

See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.

1 John 3:1-3

Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Harran. When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep. He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. There above it stood the Lord, and he said: “I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying. Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring. I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”

Genesis 28:10-15

Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ. Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you. Such a person also goes into great detail about what they have seen; they are puffed up with idle notions by their unspiritual mind. They have lost connection with the head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God causes it to grow.

Colossians 3:16-19

“Very truly I tell you, you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy. A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world. So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy. In that day you will no longer ask me anything. Very truly I tell you, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.”

John 16:20-24

Gainesville Incident: Woman Arrested for Allegedly Assaulting Ex and Vandalizing Vehicle

Staff Report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A 24-year-old woman, Alteria Leandrea Watson, found herself in police custody after allegedly attacking her ex-boyfriend with pepper spray and inflicting significant damage on his vehicle, totaling over $5,000.

According to a report from the Gainesville Police Department, the incident occurred around 2:18 a.m. on May 6. The victim, who is Watson’s former partner, was sitting in his convertible with the top down at a McDonald’s located at 1206 W. University Avenue. Watson and a companion approached his car, with the companion allegedly using pepper spray on the victim.

The victim managed to drive to the Holiday Inn’s north side to secure the convertible’s top. However, Watson purportedly tailed him in her vehicle. Upon reaching him, she reportedly pepper-sprayed him once more and shattered a small rear passenger side window using a glass beer bottle. Officers later discovered the broken bottle at the scene.

In the ensuing chaos from the pepper spray, Watson allegedly moved to the driver’s side of the car, where she began punching the victim and shouting. She is also accused of breaking the driver’s side mirror with a kick and scratching the door. Before leaving, she reportedly dented the passenger side door with another forceful kick.

The victim said that Watson and her friend drove away, and he didn’t know where they had gone, but he said Watson later came to his apartment and screamed at him from her vehicle, threatening to beat him up again.

Watson was arrested at her apartment complex on May 16.

Watson has been charged with burglary with battery, burglary of an occupied vehicle, felony property damage, and domestic battery. She has no local criminal history, and Judge Gloria Walker set bail at $25,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law

DCLM Daily Manna 18 May 2026 — Rise Above Your Weakness

DCLM Daily Manna 18 May 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Rise Above Your Weakness

TOPIC: Rise Above Your Weakness (DCLM Daily Manna 18 May 2026)

KEY VERSE: For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling – 1 Corinthians 2:2, 3

TEXT: 1 Corinthians 2:1-5 (KJV)

And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.

2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.

3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.

4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:

5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:

Failure to recognise personal, vocal excesses and rise above them can lead to failure or underperformance. French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte failed to consider his limitations when he invaded Russia in 1812. His weakness in logistics and strategic planning led to a series of costly mistakes. He underestimated the Russian winter, overextended his supply lines and failed to adapt to changing circumstances. The result was that the invasion ended in disaster, with the loss of thousands of soldiers.

As Apostle Paul approached the Corinthian brethren, he was aware of his weaknesses. He realised his emotional inabilities, fears and anxieties, mainly because of the hostility of the environment. He knew that relying on his gift of eloquence or carnal wisdom would not give him the needed breakthrough into the hearts of the sophisticated Corinthians. Moreover, he wanted, more than anything else, that the faith of the believers should rest on God’s power and not on human props. And this he could not achieve by relying on his human strength and gifts. Therefore, he had to draw strength from the Lord. He believed that the power of a transforming gospel lies in its divine origin and not in the speaker’s abilities.

Unlike Paul, many believers today focus so much on their perceived abilities; they do not realise their limitations. When we fail to realise that we are limited in some ways, we become presumptuous. This subtle manifestation of pride often leads to bitter falls and sometimes irreparable losses. On the other hand, dwelling on our weaknesses and letting them hinder us is not good either. Whether they are emotional or intellectual shortcomings, arising from our racial or family background, economic or financial constraints, social class, physical challenges or cultural challenges or even intense opposition and persecution, we must not allow any of these to stop us from fulfilling the assignment or call the Lord has given to us. Whatever weaknesses we may have, we can and should rise above them. Realising we are limited in ourselves is fine. It helps us to depend on God’s grace alone to accomplish the task He has given us. We stay humble, knowing that we have nothing within ourselves to boast about. We should draw strength from Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit. In Christ alone we find all sufficiency.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
No task is a match to us when tackled with strength from the Lord.

Rosie Explodes on Kelsey After Offensive House Joke: Drama Unfolds in Explosive Showdown

The dynamic cast of The Real Housewives of Rhode Island continues to captivate with their intense drama. Rulla finds herself entangled in rumors of infidelity, while Alicia faces the daunting task of informing her that these rumors about her husband’s ongoing affair might be true. Meanwhile, Jo-Ellen has a heart-to-heart with her mother, reflecting on her turbulent childhood. On a lighter note, Liz and Dolores are busy concocting menopausal gummies. However, the tension between Rosie and Kelsey escalates when a truce attempt spirals into a heated exchange involving insults and threats, casting doubt on the possibility of reconciliation.

RHORI Recap: Alicia Worries if She Should Tell Rulla About the Affair Video; Jo-Ellen Opens Up to Her Mom About Her Childhood as Liz and Dolores Create a Menopausal Gummie; Plus, Rosie Calls Kelsey a "Slam Pig" After Kelsey Pulls a "Joke" About the Size of Rosie's House

Alicia is gearing up to face her longstanding fear of driving. Given her past mishap, where she confessed to accidentally hitting someone, it’s understandable why she’s anxious about driving her daughter to dance practices five times a week. Her fiancé, Bill, encourages her to get behind the wheel and practice. Armed with her essentials—snacks, rose water, gum, and a playlist—Alicia sets out on this nerve-wracking endeavor.

As Alicia navigates the roads, she recounts to Bill the recent girls’ trip, particularly highlighting the moment when Liz accused her of being homeless. Bill empathizes, aware of Alicia’s respect for Liz, but amidst their conversation, Alicia inadvertently runs two stop signs.

During their drive, Alicia also updates Bill on a scandalous video involving Rulla’s husband and his alleged mistress. Despite the theatrics surrounding the situation, Alicia is conflicted about how to handle the revelation, worried about further distressing Rulla, who would likely be devastated by the news.

Alicia also fills Bill in on the video of Rulla’s husband and his mistress. According to Alicia, Jo-Ellen brought the dramatics, but Alicia is unsure what to do with this information because she does not want to kick Rulla when she is down. Alicia does not think Rulla will be ok upon hearing this.

Over at Rosie’s house, she is deep into the building of her 5,000 square foot addition to her home.  But things are getting held up with construction because they keep running into issues.  Rosie lets Rich know that the ladies claim she is full of bologna when it comes to her house, especially Kelsey.  They both agree that Kelsey’s doing a classic case of projection.  After all, Rosie feels like Kelsey never tried with her, BUT they agreed that they have a lot more in common than differences.

Rosie thinks asking Kelsey to cut her hair again might be the move to extend an olive branch and THIS time, she will post the end results. However, Rosie tells her husband that she is getting to the point of freaking the f out if this gang up continues.

Kelsey is busy unpacking in her new apartment with the help of her mom and sister. Kelsey is used to assistants, so her family should do the trick.  Now it’s time for Kelsey to figure out how to do things for herself.  However, Kelsey admits that she is not paying for the rent -her ex is paying for it…for now. He is also still paying for her health and car insurance. Kelsey claims that this is a temporary thing and just because they were not married, she did still spend ten years of her life with her ex.

Her mom wonders if Kelsey can see a future with Billy, her OTHER boyfriend (that’s a sentence I don’t have to write often).  Kelsey explains that her parents never approved of the relationship with her ex, but they love Billy and know he can give Kelsey the things she wants and when Billy comes to help Kelsey at the apartment, it is clear that he’s definitely ready for more with her.

Ashley‘s son is on the mend after his trip to the ER due to his cold induced asthma. Ashley admits to being reliant on her parents and catches her friend up on the (little bit) of the trip she was able to enjoy. She also talks about how her husband, Jared, is not taking full advantage of influencing. Shooting a couple of reels makes more money than Audrey’s, the coffee shop her husband owns.

Jo-Ellen walks into her grandfather’s house and the memories come flooding back. Her grandfather was more like Jo-Ellen’s father figure. Jo-Ellen’s mom and sister come to walk down memory lane and they browse pictures of the past. She laments that her mother was not as kind and sweet as her grandfather was because her mom did not know how to show her love.

Jo-Ellen reminds her mom that she was not nice growing up and that her mom never showed her how to be respectful and kind. Her mom seems to be in denial over Jo-Ellen’s feelings.  She lets Jo-Ellen know her lying behavior was out of control, but according to Jo-Ellen, she had no reason to send her daughter away to a place with drug addicts and criminals.

Her mom breaks down and admits to loving Jo-Ellen, despite the way she behaved towards her. She goes on to say that she was brought up with very tough love and Jo-Ellen explains that her mom shaped who her daughters became. Her mother feels terrible for all of the damage and makes a promise to be a better version of herself. Jo-Ellen wants her mom to understand she needs her to be there, for everything…not just babysitting. Jo-Ellen has been waiting her entire life for her mom to say she wants to be better and so this is a huge turning point.

Liz is hosting Dolores at her cannabis dispensary for the first time. After countless hours of b*tching about hormones and menopause, they have gotten together to create a gummy that addresses all the negative symptoms. Dolores and Liz taste-test the product right in the lab and they enjoy the effects.  Liz talks about how hard menopause hit her and Dolores explains that you don’t even know yourself anymore. Here’s hoping the gummies are the way to fix the issues.

Rulla and her husband, Brian, are hosting Alicia and Bill for dinner.  Rulla is, luckily, feeling better after her hospital visit and now she is ready to surround herself with good energy and good friends, as opposed to the Newport trip. Alicia is stressing because she knows what Brian did and it’s weighing on her heavily.  Alicia wants to enjoy the night, but she is feeling guilty because she saw the alleged affair video.

Brian talks about work and how he dabbles in all of the things he has at his practice, to which Alicia retorts, “This is incredible information.” In the midst of the conversation, Brian gets a text and asks if he can go to the bathroom.  He claims it was a work call and comes back quickly, ready to overshare about how he met Rulla and essentially just got her drunk to hook her in.  As Alicia sits listening, she realizes that nope, she simply can’t tell Rulla about the video yet.

Kelsey is heading to Rosie’s house and calls her (only) boyfriend Bill to chat.  Kelsey is looking forward to connecting with Rosie while getting her glammed. AND she is also planning to bust Rosie’s balls a bit.  Rosie is prepped for it though- she puts the house plans on the island in case there is any more confusion about the future of Rosie’s home.

Rosie gets a shock when Kelsey acts as house police, blasting a siren and yelling from a bullhorn about the size of Rosie’s house: “Suspect says 8,000 square feet.  More like 8,000 inches.” Holy obnoxious.  The minute Kelsey walks in, Rosie gives her a measuring tape and displays the house plans. They begin bickering right away and it is clear that Kelsey misjudged how “cool” she was with Rosie.

Kelsey calls the house police thing a joke, but Rosie does not think it’s funny.  She’s tired of Kelsey calling her a liar and exaggerator and asks Kelsey outright, “where the f*ck is your house? At least I’m on the deed of this house.” Boom.  Things escalate rather quickly from that point on. Kelsey tries to remain calm, stating sarcastically that Rosie is “impressive” and continues to call the whole situation funny.

BUT, Rosie certainly does not find this behavior funny.  Rosie apologizes for calling Kelsey polygamist at the picnic, but points out that Kelsey that has been nasty to her all along. Rosie tells Kelsey, while standing nose to nose, that she is “no one,” that Kelsey needs to get out of her house, and that Kelsey can talk to her when she gets a house and a husband. Afterall, “sucking d*ck is not a career,” according to Rosie.

Rosie continues to go in on Kelsey, claiming that her sugar daddy had to pay for Kelsey to win the pageant. Rosie calls Kelsey rude and drags Kelsey’s things down the stairs.  Rosie literally pushes Kelsey out of her home, but Kelsey pops back in to clarify that she won the pageant fair and square.  Because THAT’S the most important issue at hand… Rosie loses it and shrieks that Kelsey is a “slam pig.”  She threatens to call the police as Kelsey flips the bird and peels out of the driveway.  Sooo, I think it’s safe to say they are not on good terms again, right?

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE RHORI EPISODE?

Jim Chalmers Stands Firm on Tax Reforms Amidst Public Scrutiny

0

In brief

  • Labor MPs have responded to new polling suggesting the federal budget was not popular with respondents.
  • Jim Chalmers argued it was worth the short-term political cost to address intergenerational inequality in the housing market.

Treasurer Jim Chalmers has responded to a recent poll that suggests the Labor Party’s federal budget is the least favored since 1993. According to the findings, 52% of people believe the budget will leave them worse off.

A Newspoll conducted after the budget’s release, which was commissioned by The Australian newspaper, shows that just over half of Australians think Tuesday’s budget will negatively impact their finances. This survey positions it as the least favorable economic plan since 1993.

The poll also revealed that 47% of participants feel the budget is creating a gap between the younger and older generations, whereas 26% think it is leveling the playing field and promoting fairness.

This fiscal strategy ranks lower than the controversial austerity budget of the Abbott government in 2014, marking it as the least popular since the Keating government abandoned its promised “L-A-W” tax cuts in 1993.

Despite the criticism, the Labor Party’s primary vote and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s approval ratings have remained steady.

A separate poll from Resolve, which is conducted on behalf of the Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, found Opposition leader Angus Taylor leading Albanese as preferred prime minister 33 to 30 per cent — the first time he has nudged ahead in that metric.

But Chalmers insisted that despite Labor breaking its election promise not to change negative gearing and the capital gains tax discount, the budget reforms were worthwhile.

“We’re fixing that broken status quo in housing over the years to come, and that is worth any near-term political cost that we might pay,” he told reporters in Brisbane on Monday.

Taylor says trust changes create ‘death tax by stealth’

Amid a furious campaign against changes to the tax treatment of some trusts, Albanese denied the reforms amounted to a death tax.

“There’s a range of exemptions that were outlined (in the budget) on Tuesday,” he told reporters in Adelaide.

“If you have an existing discretionary testamentary trust, for example, they continue going forward, and when it comes to fixed trusts, they continue as well to be exempted.”

But Taylor said the 30 per cent tax on new discretionary testamentary trusts — which are used by some wealthy families to divide money in a will — was clearly a “death tax by stealth”.

The financial structure allows a person to directly allocate how much money goes to each beneficiary and is preferred by some families as it helps ring-fence the money from disputes, while minimising tax exposure in some cases.

“This is a structure that most small businesses in this country use … in this government’s assault on aspiration, they want to force every one of those small businesses to restructure,” Taylor said.

Data shows there were just over 10,000 testamentary trusts in the 2022/23 financial year.

Many voters were still undecided about the budget, Social Services Minister Tanya Plibersek said.

“They take a little while to listen to everything that they’re hearing on TV, in the newspapers, from our leaders, and they’ll make their mind up over time,” she told Seven’s Sunrise program.

“It’s one poll, and we’ll keep doing our job of reminding people why we’ve made this decision. We’ve made this decision because we want kids today, and the next generation, and the next generation to have what we have — a home of our own.”

One Nation MP Barnaby Joyce said the government had taken a hit because it had broken an election promise.

“The reason that the prime minister of Australia and the treasurer are finding it hard to explain what’s going on is because they lied,” he told Seven’s Sunrise.

“They lied before the election, they said they weren’t going to change things, but they lied, and now people have woken up.”

Urgent Alert: Hantavirus Outbreak Hits Cruise Ship Docking in the Netherlands

0

A cruise ship grappling with a deadly hantavirus outbreak is set to dock in Rotterdam, Netherlands, on Monday morning.

The MV Hondius has been navigating the seas for the past six days, departing from the Canary Islands. There, the remaining passengers were safely disembarked by teams clad in full protective gear. These passengers have since been flown to over 20 different countries, where they have entered quarantine protocols.

The World Health Organization reports that the outbreak on the ship has resulted in 11 cases, with nine confirmed incidences of the virus. Tragically, three passengers have died, including a Dutch couple believed to have contracted the virus during their visit to South America.

Making its way from Tenerife along the African and European coasts, the vessel carries 25 crew members and two medical staff. Oceanwide Expeditions, the ship’s operator, assures that no one on board is currently displaying any symptoms of the virus.

The vessel has made the journey from Tenerife up the coast of Africa and Europe with 25 crew members and two medical personnel. According to the ship operator Oceanwide Expeditions, no one on board is experiencing any symptoms.

Crew members who are unable to return home will be quarantined in the Netherlands, the Dutch health ministry said last week. Some two dozen passengers and crew are already in quarantine in the Netherlands, after arriving in the country on a series of flights over the previous two weeks.

The Public Health Agency of Canada said Sunday that one of the four Canadians in isolation after leaving the ship had tested positive. The case was not yet reflected in the WHO data.

Eighteen Americans are currently under observation at specialized healthcare facilities in the United States designed to treat people with dangerous infectious diseases.

Dr. Bonnie Henry, the public health officer for the province of British Columbia, said Saturday the person had received a “presumptive positive” but further testing would be conducted at the National Microbiology Lab in Winnipeg.

After everyone on board has disembarked, the ship will be decontaminated based on Dutch public health guidelines. “Personal protective measures are being taken to ensure that the cleaners do not need to quarantine after the cleaning,” the health ministry said in a letter to the Dutch parliament last week.

Public health officials will inspect the vessel before it is allowed to sail again. The hantavirus outbreak aboard the MV Hondius is the first known case on a cruise ship.

The Dutch company that owns the cruise ship said it doesn’t foresee any changes to its operations. It has an Arctic cruise setting sail from Keflavik, Iceland, on May 29.

France’s Pasteur Institute said on Saturday it has fully sequenced the Andes virus detected in a French passenger from the MV Hondius cruise ship and found that it matched viruses already known in South America, with no evidence so far of new characteristics that would make it more transmissible or more dangerous.

Elsie Hewitt, Former Partner of Pete Davidson, Asserts She is Raising Their Daughter

0

Elsie Hewitt, a new mother, has recently shared that she is managing the care of her infant daughter and her financial responsibilities independently, amid rumors of a breakup with her partner, Pete Davidson.

The couple, who celebrated the arrival of their daughter Scottie Rose late last year, are reportedly no longer together.

On Saturday, the 30-year-old Hewitt addressed criticisms about her appearance after being spotted in public. She emphasized that her priorities have shifted since becoming a parent.

“My appearance isn’t my main concern right now,” she explained to her TikTok audience. “I have a baby to look after, and I need to work to earn a living. I’m doing it all on my own, which is challenging.”

The video was captioned ‘priorities ?!?!’ and captured an ‘exhausted’ Hewitt speaking with followers from her couch.

Many concerned followers commented on her situation, to which Hewitt responded in messages that seem to have been removed since.

Sources have refuted Hewitt's claims with The Daily Mail, with one saying Davidson, 32, 'covers all costs' related to their daughter

Sources have refuted Hewitt’s claims with The Daily Mail, with one saying Davidson, 32, ‘covers all costs’ related to their daughter

‘I hope you don’t mean you’re doing the financial part alone… that would be insane given the circumstances. You seem like a lovely person and a wonderful mother! We’re all rooting for you,’ one commenter said.

‘I am :),’ Hewitt replied in a comment that appears to now be deleted.

‘Sorry but not staying with your partner when they are pp is insanely loser behavior. This is THE most vulnerable time in a woman’s life,’ another wrote.

‘Amen sis,’ she replied in another comment that is no longer up.

Sources, however, have refuted the claims Hewitt made in the video, telling The Daily Mail that Davidson, 32, ‘covers all costs’ related to their daughter.

A source close to the couple’s finances told The Daily Mail: ‘These posts make no sense, as she is well aware that Pete covers all costs associated with Scottie, including childcare, as well as Elsie’s rent and health insurance, among other expenses.’

Further, another source close to the couple said that Davidson has made spending time with Scottie a priority.

‘Pete has made himself completely available and has consistently prioritized spending time with their daughter, which he will continue to do,’ the source said. ‘He wants Elsie to be comfortable and successful.’

Daily Mail have reached out to representatives for Davidson and Hewitt for comment.

The Sun reported last week that the couple had called it quits on their whirlwind relationship in part due to Davidson’s busy schedule.

‘Pete has been traveling so much for work, but Elsie was craving more support from him at home after their daughter was born,’ a source told The Sun of the new mother.

‘It was very hard for him because, obviously, he has to work to make money,’ the source added.

Another insider noted the split happened recently and that they are ‘just focusing 100%’ on their daughter. ‘Working out the best co-parenting solution is their top priority.’

Despite the split, both the actor and Hewitt are ‘working on things,’ a source told People in an article published on Friday.

‘They want one another to succeed and be happy. There have been points where they’ve split and have gotten back together.’

However, the insider added that it is not clear if the two stars will reunite or rekindle their romance in the future.

Hewitt and Davidson’s baby girl Scottie Rose was born late last year shortly before the Christmas holiday.

Stay Informed: Essential Food Recalls and Safety Alerts for Salmonella This Month

(NEXSTAR) – A range of products, from frozen pizza and pork rinds to seasonings and pet food, have recently been subject to health alerts or recalls due to potential contamination with salmonella.

Salmonella is a type of bacteria responsible for causing the illness known as salmonellosis, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Infection can occur through various means, including consuming contaminated food, interacting with polluted water, or coming into contact with animals and their environments. A recent outbreak was even traced back to backyard poultry.

The CDC notes that symptoms commonly include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps, typically manifesting between six hours and six days post-exposure to the bacteria. While most individuals recover on their own within four to seven days, the illness can pose a more significant threat to young children, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems.

Miraculous Awakening: Pregnant Woman’s Shocking Discovery About Her Coma’s Cause

Donald Wooten (DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office).

A Georgia resident has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term following a harrowing incident where he shot his pregnant girlfriend in the head, allegedly to terminate their unborn child. The victim later emerged from a coma with no recollection of the event and underwent an emergency C-section to deliver the baby safely.

According to an arrest affidavit reviewed by Law&Crime, Donald Wooten, 27, confessed to authorities that he intended to prevent the birth of the child. Last week, he received a 60-year prison sentence after being found guilty of attempted murder, criminal attempt to commit feticide, and using a firearm in the execution of a felony.

The affidavit detailed that Wooten’s actions were driven by a desire to end the unborn child’s life by shooting his girlfriend in the head. Due to this violent act, an emergency C-section was necessary to save the baby.

The DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office reported last Thursday that a jury convicted Wooten for the March 2023 shooting after evidence revealed he assaulted his girlfriend near a walking trail in Decatur’s Chapel Hill Park.

The DA’s office described how the DeKalb County Police Department responded to a 911 call around 7 a.m., which reported an unresponsive woman near the trail. Emergency medical technicians found a pregnant woman in the fetal position, conscious but unable to communicate, with a gunshot wound to her head.

The victim was transported to a local hospital and medical staffers determined she suffered a gunshot wound to her head and that she was 22 weeks pregnant. Initially, detectives couldn’t speak with the victim due to her incoherent state, but the victim’s family told investigators they suspected Wooten was behind the shooting.

Police interviewed Wooten and he “informed detectives that he initially did not want the victim to have the child and he was upset that the victim chose to go through with the pregnancy,” per the affidavit. Wooten provided detectives with an alibi, claiming he was with a person who later denied knowing him.

“When they spoke with him over the phone, he told officers he’d gone to a movie with the victim the night before she was found, then back to the apartment complex where they both lived,” the DA’s office explained. “After parting ways, he said he went to his secondary apartment in Atlanta.”

Prosecutors said a receipt found in the victim’s car and text messages corroborated the trip to the movies, but location records from Wooten’s cellphone and the victim’s phone did not match the story of traveling to Ellenwood.

“Two months after she was shot, police were able to interview the victim at the hospital,” the DA’s office said. “She recalled being at the park with the defendant late at night but did not remember being shot. The defendant was questioned again by police and reiterated the second version of his story. He was arrested without incident.”

In jail calls, Wooten allegedly asked a relative to wipe his cellphone remotely after police collected it as evidence. Police managed to extract data from it before the phone was wiped.

“Messages between defendant Wooten and the victim revealed they were arguing over the pregnancy and their future together,” the DA’s office recounted. “In the days following the shooting, he sent messages asking someone to retrieve a gun and bullets from his apartment, and reminding someone to tell police they’d been together the night of the incident.”

During Wooten’s trial, the victim testified that she recalled driving herself and Wooten to the movie, then back to their apartment complex. She said that Wooten suggested they go to Chapel Hill Park.

“The victim’s last memory is walking in the park with the defendant,” the DA’s office said.

Wooten was found guilty on April 20.

Chicago Pastor Corey B. Brooks Unites Hundreds to Establish Violence-Free Zone on South Side

On Sunday, a dedicated pastor from Chicago rallied hundreds of men on the city’s South Side, aiming to curb violence and revitalize a neighborhood once notorious for its high crime rates.

Pastor Corey B. Brooks, alongside Project H.O.O.D., orchestrated the “1000 Men Unity Gathering” at the almost-completed Robert R. McCormick Leadership & Economic Opportunity Center located at 6620 S. King Drive. During the event, they boldly declared the surrounding vicinity as a “100% violence-free zone.”

“This initiative goes beyond just constructing a building,” Brooks emphasized. “It’s about fostering a culture where men unite to safeguard families, mentor the youth, curb violence, and establish a legacy that will endure beyond our time.”

He continued, “We are asserting that this community is entitled to peace, opportunity, and a sense of hope.”

The gathering united pastors, fathers, mentors, activists, business leaders, former gang members, and local residents from across Chicago. Organizers described it as a collective endeavor to enhance safety, encourage responsibility, and create opportunities on the South Side.

Brooks told Fox News Digital that approximately 750 men attended the gathering, where community members committed to maintaining the neighborhood as a peaceful environment for families and children.

“We declared that this is going to be a peace zone, a nonviolent zone, a violence-free zone,” Brooks said. “So the young kids can come to the center and have peace of mind knowing they don’t have to worry about their safety.”

The Robert R. McCormick Leadership & Economic Opportunity Center is designed to address violence and poverty through workforce development, mentorship, education, entrepreneurship, job training and community engagement, according to Project H.O.O.D.

Attendees received an early look inside the facility Sunday as organizers outlined plans for the center to serve future generations on Chicago’s South Side.

Brooks said the neighborhood surrounding the center was once considered one of the most dangerous areas in Chicago.

“In 2014, the Chicago Sun-Times wrote an article saying this was the most dangerous neighborhood in all Chicago, and it happened to be this block,” Brooks told Fox News Digital. “So, we decided to transform it, and that’s what’s been happening.”

The area is no longer ranked among Chicago’s 35 most dangerous blocks, which Brooks attributed to ongoing community investment and outreach efforts.

He founded Project H.O.O.D. — Helping Others Obtain Destiny — to reduce violence and poverty on Chicago’s South Side through mentorship, faith, workforce training and economic development initiatives.

Brooks said he hopes the project can serve as a national model for urban communities seeking long-term change.

“I think this center is going to be an example of what we can do across America in urban areas,” Brooks said. “If we don’t wait on government and take responsibility for ourselves, we can change the trajectory of these neighborhoods and urban centers.”
