Impact Analysis: How the RBA Rate Increase Will Affect Your Finances

0

The recent interest rate increase has left countless Australian borrowers facing renewed financial pressure.

The Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) has implemented its third consecutive interest rate rise, pushing the cash rate target up to 4.35 percent.

Nine Money’s editor, Effie Zahos, commented on the impact, noting the decision poses a significant challenge for households.

The rate hike has essentally put millions of borrowers back to square one.

“The RBA aims to stabilize inflation with these three rate hikes, but for many households, this situation is dire,” she explained.

“Depending on the size of the mortgage, this could mean an additional $100 in monthly payments,” Zahos added.

An owner-occupier with a $600,000 mortgage and 25 years remaining at the start of this year’s hikes will need to add $91 to their minimum monthly repayments with the 0.25 per cent rise, according to estimates from financial comparison website Canstar.

The total increase across three consecutive hikes would be $272 a month.

Australians with a $500,000 mortgage over 25 years can expect to pay about $76 extra a month, while those owing $700,000 will need to pay an additional $107 a month.

Owner-occupiers with $800,000 left on their mortgage can expect to pay an extra $122 each month.

Those with $900,000 will likely need to pay an additional $137 a month.

Those owing $1 million could pay an extra $152 following today’s rate hike.

Canstar data insights director Sally Tindall said Australians who kept their mortgage repayments the same following the cash rate cuts in 2025, the repayment buffer they had built up would be essentially erased.

“While more than a year of higher repayments won’t have been in vain, the strategy will have delivered only a limited cushion against rising rates,” Tindall said.

Borrowers are also being told to prepare and calculate how much repayments will be if there are two further hikes in June and August.

Tindall recommends borrowers contact their lender and request a rate review.

“Haggling should be borrowers’ first port of call, because picking up the phone can potentially produce near-immediate relief,” she said.

“However, banks aren’t handing out discounts as freely as they were a couple of years ago.

“If your bank won’t budge when you haggle, don’t take it personally, instead, take your business elsewhere.”

Haggling can only take your rate so far. Those who want the sharpest rates are likely to have to refinance.

Borrowers should ask about hardship assistance if repayments are becoming difficult and they have already negotiated with their lender.

Arkansas School Director Convicted as Mastermind Behind Shocking Child Fight Club Scandal

0

An Arkansas school director has been sentenced to 30 days in jail, followed by 120 days of house arrest with electronic monitoring, and nine years of probation. This comes after she was accused by prosecutors of orchestrating a makeshift child fight club.

Mary Tracy Morrison, 51, who owned and directed The Delta Institute for the Developing Brain and the Engage program in Jonesboro, entered a guilty plea on Monday. She admitted to one count of permitting child abuse and four counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, as reported by KAIT.

The court has also barred Morrison from any professional work involving children. Additionally, she must relinquish her occupational therapy license and any related credentials. A mental health assessment is required, and she must adhere to all recommended treatments arising from that evaluation.

Mary Tracy Morrison

Morrison’s arrest in April 2025 followed a report from a mother to the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office. The report detailed allegations from her teenage son, who claimed he experienced mental and physical abuse while attending the school.

Morrison was arrested in April 2025 after a mother told the Craighead County Sheriff’s Office that her teenage son reported being mentally and physically abused while he was at the school.

Video footage that deputies obtained through a search warrant revealed Morrison had “instructed the child to sit on the floor while being surrounded on the outside of a circle by 18 other juvenile students and Dr. Morrison,” according to a probable cause affidavit, KAIT reported.

The affidavit said that Morrison told the other students to put their hands on the child in the center and hit the child with an “unknown object.”

As Morrison verbally berated the child, another student was seen kicking and choking the child.

After the alleged incident, Morrison was observed “giving the juvenile a high five, displaying her pleasure with the student’s actions,” according to the affidavit.

The incident lasted 30 minutes and featured a teacher directing a student to strike a classmate “in the private area,” deputies said.

Three other school employees were also arrested in connection with the abuse. (Craighead County Sheriff’s Office)

Following the incident, Morrison “instructed the victim to apologize to all other students” and told the students to never discuss what had happened again, the document stated.

Three other school employees — Michael Bean, 38, Kristin Bell, 36, and Kathrine Lipscomb, 45, were also arrested in connection with the abuse.

Fox News Digital could not immediately reach The Delta Institute for the Developing Brain or the Engage program for comment because no public or operational email address was listed for either organization.

Spousal Financial Dilemma: Wife Asked to Fund Home Renovations Despite Exclusion from Will

0

DEAR ABBY: I’ve been married to my husband for a decade, and we reside in a home he owned prior to our marriage. He is eager to undertake renovations to boost the property’s value, asserting that the house will be inherited by his four adult children upon his passing.

The dilemma arises as he expects me to finance half of these renovations. Thus far, I’ve completely paid for new windows, doors, blinds, and shared the cost of bathroom remodels. Now, he’s asking me to contribute to the kitchen renovation. I feel compelled to stand my ground, as it seems I’m effectively subsidizing his children’s future inheritance. He accuses me of being selfish and unwilling to cooperate in upgrading “our” home. What are your thoughts? — FAIR OR NOT IN ILLINOIS

DEAR FAIR OR NOT: I believe you are justified in your concerns. Keep meticulous records of all expenditures you have made for these home improvements, and ensure there is a written agreement that you will be reimbursed for these costs after his passing. I recommend consulting a lawyer for further advice.

DEAR ABBY: I find myself in love with a married woman who reciprocates my feelings. We meet for intimate encounters, but she feels bound by responsibility to her husband and fears he might harm himself if she leaves. She insists they aren’t intimate due to his impotence, despite attempted treatments. I am single and content with our arrangement. Is there anything amiss here? — MEETING A NEED IN WISCONSIN

DEAR MEETING: If you weren’t uneasy about this situation, you likely wouldn’t have sought my advice. You cannot be certain of the woman’s claim about her husband’s impotence, and neither can I. While you may see yourself as a hero filling a void, it’s clear that you’re engaging in questionable behavior, and deep down, you recognize it. (Her husband will too, should he discover the affair.)

DEAR ABBY: Six months ago, my mother bought me a dress as a gift. My niece, who I am helping and who is living with me, stole it from me. I let it go and didn’t argue with her because I didn’t want to ruin our relationship. My daughter recently gave me a gift card. The gift card is missing, too, and I’m assuming that my niece took it. What should I do? Should I talk to my brother about it? — STOLEN FROM IN MASSACHUSETTS

DEAR STOLEN FROM: By all means, talk to your brother about it. And once you have done that, tell your niece she can no longer live with you because you know she took your dress and now a gift card is missing. Tell her you want both returned and to pack her bags because you are rolling up the welcome mat. Your niece has a problem, and you should not be expected to solve it.

Finale Celebration of ‘Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord’ Unites Cast, Fans, and Sam Witwer at Walt Disney Studios

0

In Los Angeles, the grand conclusion of a legendary “Star Wars” animated series was marked with a spectacular celebration by Disney. The event, held in honor of the final two episodes of “Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord,” turned the Walt Disney Studios lot in Burbank into a vibrant gathering place for fans of the series.

The transformation of the studio lot into a showcase highlighted the series’ striking animation and gripping narratives. This special occasion brought together cast members and ardent fans who shared the excitement of witnessing the finale as a unified community.

Among those celebrating was Sam Witwer, the voice behind the character Maul for over ten years. Witwer spoke about the significant impact left by the franchise’s visionary creator, George Lucas, expressing how Lucas’s legacy has shaped the filmmaking world.

“George created an extraordinary filmmaking legacy,” Witwer mentioned in an interview with On The Red Carpet. He emphasized that Lucasfilm animation and Lucasfilm as a whole have evolved into a kind of film school under Lucas’s guidance, with many industry talents having started their journey under his mentorship.

“George created an extraordinary film making legacy and Lucasfilm animation and Lucasfilm as a whole has become kind of a film school under George, but all these people started under George, he told On The Red Carpet.

“Every department head worked under George. I guess I worked under George through Dave but also it’s kind of fun to see where this has all gone.

Newcomer Gideon Adlon, who plays Jedi apprentice Devon Izara, didn’t hold back her excitement about joining the galaxy far, far away.

“The team nailed it, the writers, the director, the artists, everybody, Dave, Sam are incredible and I just feel lucky that I got to be a part of something that’s making fans finally like jump for joy and like a connection they’ve been missing in the Star Wars world,” she said.

Lucasfilm president Dave Filoni was also in attendance and was happy to be surrounded by fans.

“It’s always the best when you get a whole group of fans together to watch something like this, there’s great energy,” he said.

“I think it’s great for the team who made the series, all the talent involved.”

All episodes of “Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord” are streaming now on Disney+.

K-Pop Powerhouses Blackpink and Aespa Shine at Met Gala Red Carpet

0

K-pop’s influence at the Met Gala continues to expand, and this year’s event was no exception.

Renowned South Korean icons, including members from girl groups like Blackpink and the cast of Kpop Demon Hunters, dazzled in an array of crystals and gemstones at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday.

Marking her first appearance at the Met Gala, Karina from the girl group Aespa donned an elegant white satin dress adorned with floral crystal detailing along the straps and a square neckline.

At 26, the Prada ambassador added a dramatic touch with an oversized black coat that gracefully slipped off her shoulders.

Karina completed her sophisticated look by styling her black hair into a sleek bun and choosing purple gemstone earrings as her accessory of choice.

Blackpink members Roseanne ‘Rosé’ Park and Lalisa ‘Lisa’ Manobal returned to the Met Gala after both attending last year’s ceremony.

Lisa, 29, went for a more daring style in a sparkling white skin-tight dress and matching veil.

Both the frock and the veil were adorned in crystals, along with Lisa’s hands and parts of her face.

Rosé went for a much safer look in yet another black Saint Laurent dress, which has now become her signature style.

The garment featured a structured lower half that came out to create a voluptuous silhouette along with a thigh-high split and a large sparkly bird on the hip.

Her Blackpink bandmate Kim Jisoo, 31, was the epitome of ladylike glamour in strapless floral dress in shades of soft pink and purple.

The longtime Dior ambassador added a matching collar and had her hair slicked back with two long squiggly strands falling down to frame her face.

Last but not least was Blackpink’s Jennie Kim, who stood out in a strapless blue sequin gown and silver pumps.

The 30-year-old is a longtime ambassador for Chanel, but she appeared to buck the brand this year for something different.

Never one to miss a red carpet, Kpop Demon Hunters star Ejae arrived in yet another crystalized look.

Despite being known for her hit Golden, the singer sparkled in a silver column gown from Swarovski.

Speaking to Vogue about her look, Ejae explained that it was partially inspired by the female courtesans of the Joseon dynasty.

‘I wanted to represent elements of Korean culture on fashion’s biggest night,’ she said.

It turns out that Karina wasn’t the only Aespa member invited, with Ningning also walking the red carpet later in the day.

The Chinese-born beauty, 23, wowed in a custom black Gucci gown featuring dramatic black ruffles with subtle crystal embellishments.

Ningning’s Met Gala debut comes just days after she was announced as Gucci’s latest global ambassador.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Benefit, also known as the Met Gala, falls on the first Monday in May every year.

The theme of this year’s event – widely considered the Super Bowl of celebrity red carpets – is ‘Costume Art’, while the dress code is ‘Fashion Is Art.’

The dress code calls on the A-list attendees to explore how designers use the human body as a blank canvas.

Leading the charge is a powerhouse trio of co-chairs, with Beyonce, Nicole Kidman and Venus Williams joining forces with Vogue’s global editorial director Anna Wintour to oversee fashion’s biggest night.

It’s the first time tennis superstar Williams has co-chaired the gala. Kidman previously co-chaired the star-studded event in 2003 as well as 2005, and Beyonce was an honorary chair in 2013.

The New York City museum will pair historical and contemporary garments from the Costume Institute for the exhibition, which will be loosely divided into three categories, including the classical and the nude body, aging and pregnant bodies, and the anatomical body.

The exhibit – set to unveil the Met’s sprawling new Conde M. Nast Galleries – has been made possible by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his wife Lauren Sanchez, who are the lead sponsors and honorary co-chairs.

‘The title “Costume Art” refers to the history of the costume institute,’ Andrew Bolton, the Costume Institute’s curator, said at a press conference.

Bolton, who selects the theme, said fashion has ‘the status of art because of, and not in spite of, its relation to the body.’

French luxury fashion house Yves Saint Laurent is also sponsoring the exhibit.

The 2026 Met Gala will also have a host committee that includes committee co-chairs Anthony Vaccarello and Zoe Kravitz, along with members Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, Angela Bassett, Gwendoline Christie, Misty Copeland, Elizabeth Debicki, Lena Dunham, Sam Smith, Teyana Taylor and more.

Costume Art will run from May 10, 2026 through January 10, 2027, following the Met Gala on Monday, May 4.

The Met Gala is a huge money-maker for the museum, and provides the Costume Institute with its main source of funding.

The 2026 Met Gala marks a major moment because it’s the first one since Wintour technically stepped back from one of her famed roles at Vogue.

In June 2025, Wintour announced she was stepping down as the editor-in-chief of American Vogue after 37 years.

The global director for Vogue and global chief content officer at Conde Nast hired Chloe Malle as the new head of editorial content at Vogue.

Wintour has famously been incredibly hands-on with the Met Gala over the years, and is credited with making it the splashy A-list affair it has become, beloved by celebrities like Rihanna, the Kardashians, Blake Lively, Zendaya and more.

Last year, many stars did not attend the Met Gala, and some people thought it was to avoid making a faux pas because of the theme, Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, which was centered around the political and aesthetic constructs of Black dandyism.

City Implements Groundbreaking Ban on Meat and Fossil Fuel Advertisements, Sparking Debate

0

Amsterdam has made headlines as the first capital city worldwide to implement a ban on public advertisements for meat and fossil fuels. This unprecedented move means that ads promoting burgers, gasoline-powered vehicles, and air travel have vanished from billboards, tram stations, and metro stops across the city.

Since May 1, this Dutch capital, known for its vibrant tourism, has transformed its advertising landscape significantly. Advertisements that once featured chicken nuggets, SUVs, and low-cost airlines have been substituted with promotions for cultural attractions such as museums and concerts, according to a report from BBC News.

This bold initiative is part of a broader, ambitious climate strategy by local leaders, who aim to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and cut meat consumption by half. The city’s political figures are keen on establishing Amsterdam as a leader in climate policies, a sentiment echoed by Anneke Veenhoff of the GreenLeft Party. “The climate crisis is very urgent,” Veenhoff stated, questioning the logic of leasing advertising spaces to industries that contribute to environmental harm.

The new advertising policy underlines Amsterdam’s commitment to addressing climate change and aligns with its broader environmental objectives. As the city adapts to these changes, it sends a clear message about its priorities and the importance of sustainable practices.

“The climate crisis is very urgent,” Anneke Veenhoff from the GreenLeft Party said. “I mean, if you want to be leading in climate policies and you rent out your walls to exactly the opposite, then what are you doing?”

But critics argue the policy crosses a line — calling it an overreach that attempts to engineer personal choices, according to BBC News.

The Dutch Meat Association blasted the ban as “an undesirable way to influence consumer behavior,” warning that meat provides essential nutrients and should remain visible and accessible, the outlet reported.

Meanwhile, travel industry leaders say the restrictions unfairly target businesses.

The Dutch Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators called the ban on airline advertising a disproportionate blow to commercial freedom, according to BBC News.

Supporters, however, are framing the policy as a broader cultural shift — even comparing meat ads to cigarette campaigns of decades past.

“Because if I look now back at like old pictures, you have Johan Cruyff,” Hannah Prins, a paralegal at Advocates for the Future, told the outlet. “The famous Dutch footballer. … He would be in advertisements for tobacco. That used to be normal. He died of lung cancer.”

Prins added, “I don’t think it’s normal to see murdered animals on billboards. So I think it’s very good that that’s going to change.”

Other Dutch cities — including Haarlem, Utrecht and Nijmegen — have rolled out similar restrictions, while cities across Europe continue pushing to curb fossil fuel advertising, BBC News reported.

Meanwhile, in the United States, federal officials have taken a markedly different approach to food policy.

The Department of Health and Human Services earlier this year unveiled updated dietary guidance featuring an inverted food pyramid. The top of the pyramid, now the wider part of the structure, is built on meat, fats, fruits and vegetables, while whole grains are at the narrow bottom.

Lauren Sánchez and Nicole Kidman Share a Surprising Moment at the 2026 Met Gala

In a moment that could easily be described as iconic, Nicole Kidman effortlessly diverted attention from Lauren Sánchez and her husband, Jeff Bezos, at the 2026 Vanity Fair Oscars Party. While Sánchez and the Amazon mogul navigated the red carpet, Kidman swept in, captivating the photographers’ lenses. Social media users quickly turned this celebrity encounter into a meme-worthy event, applauding Kidman’s undeniable allure. “Even billionaires can’t compete with genuine star power,” quipped one user on X, the platform previously known as Twitter, noting, “Nicole Kidman just demonstrated how charisma can eclipse wealth at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party.”

Fast forward a few months, and Kidman surprisingly seemed to team up with Sánchez at the 2026 Met Gala, an event that ignited protests and led to some celebrities boycotting due to Sánchez and Bezos’ involvement. So, what brought this unexpected alliance about?

In a widely shared photo, the “Moulin Rouge” actress is seen posing alongside Sánchez and former Vogue Editor-In-Chief Anna Wintour, the gala’s leading chairperson. Though the trio isn’t captured conversing, Kidman’s presence certainly added a viral flair to the moment, inadvertently enhancing Sánchez’s public image (even if Kidman’s dazzling red sequined dress stole the show). However, it’s premature to assume a budding friendship between the two.

We can only speculate on how Kidman felt about sharing the limelight with Sánchez at the Met Gala, a venue renowned for its extravagant celebrity fashion. The reality is that both women were key figures in this year’s gala. Kidman took on the role of a celebrity chair, joining the ranks of Venus Williams, Beyonce, and Wintour. Meanwhile, Sánchez and Bezos, still one of the world’s wealthiest individuals, contributed significantly as 2026’s honorary co-chairs. With such roles, a photo of Kidman and Sánchez together was bound to happen.

Whether Kidman purposefully embraced her moment with Sánchez is beside the point. At the Met Gala, the only viewpoint that truly matters is Wintour’s, as she has been the ultimate authority on the guest list since the ’90s. Wintour expressed her full support in comments to CNN, describing Bezos as a “great lover of costume and obviously of fashion.” Regarding Bezos and Sánchez’s substantial contribution to the event, which funds the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, Wintour remarked, “We’re very grateful for her incredible generosity, so we’re thrilled she’s part of the night.” As always, financial contributions speak volumes.

Nicole Kidman and Lauren Sánchez were just representing the Met Gala

There’s no way to know for sure what Nicole Kidman thought about letting Lauren Sánchez share a little of her shine at the Met Gala, which has been the site of some wild celebrity looks over the years. The fact of the matter is, both women played a substantial role in this year’s event. Kidman served as one of the gala’s celebrity chairs, in addition to Venus Williams, Beyonce, and Anna Wintour. Meanwhile, Sánchez and Jeff Bezos, who is still one of the richest people in the world, unloaded a boatload of cash to become 2026’s honorary co-chairs. So, if you think about it, a photo between Kidman and Sánchez was inevitable.

Whether Kidman intentionally embraced her moment with Sánchez isn’t really the point, though. When it comes to the Met Gala, the only opinion that holds weight is Wintour’s, given she’s held full creative control of the guest list since the ’90s. Apparently, she was totally on board. In comments to CNN, Wintour likened Bezos to a “great lover of costume and obviously of fashion.” When discussing Bezos and Sánchez’s hefty donation to the event, which supports the operation of the Metropolitan Museum of Arts Costume Institute, Wintour said, “We’re very grateful for her incredible generosity so we’re thrilled she’s part of the night.” So, as usual, money talks.

Controversial Debate Ignites Over ‘Submissive and Controllable’ Wife Traits

A man has sparked a flurry of reactions across social media after sharing a list of what he considers the top “10 qualities” men should seek in a wife. His emphasis on traditional gender roles, discipline, and domestic responsibilities has struck a nerve with many, prompting a lively discussion about the nature of modern relationships.

The online post has become a flashpoint for debate, with opinions divided on issues of gender equality and cultural expectations within marriage. Some see the list as a reflection of outdated perspectives, while others view it as a reaffirmation of traditional values.

This controversy highlights the ongoing tensions between conservative and modern viewpoints on partnerships within Nigerian society. The list’s contents, which include criteria such as a woman’s enjoyment of cooking, her relationship with her father, and her views on gender roles, have been both criticized and defended, underscoring the complex dynamics at play in today’s discussions about marriage and gender roles.

The list, shared online, has been criticised and supported in equal measure, reflecting ongoing tensions between conservative and modern views on partnership in Nigerian society.

Traditional expectations and domestic roles

“She can cook and genuinely enjoys cooking. She has a strong father figure in her life. She does not believe in gender equality. She fully believes in her role as a woman and embraces it. She never calls domestic chores slavery. She is hardworking but always puts family above her career. She has a good relationship with her father and a responsible mother who respects her father.”

Control, respect, and financial expectations

“She never bills you for wigs, latest iPhones, or luxury items. She is not greedy. She is calm and respectful. Even when angry, she does not disrespect you. She is submissive and controllable. When you correct her, she listens instead of justifying herself.”

The comments echo similar viral relationship debates seen in 2023 and 2024, when social media discussions around marriage roles in Nigeria frequently divided public opinion, especially among younger couples redefining partnership expectations.

Hurricanes’ Playoff Tradition of Viral Beer Skating to Take a Hiatus

0

The Carolina Hurricanes have decided to put their popular beer skate on ice, at least for the time being.

This quirky beer glass, designed to resemble a hockey skate, became an instant sensation during Game 1 of the Hurricanes’ second-round playoff series against the Flyers. Its debut over the weekend quickly caught the attention of fans and went viral.

However, the Hurricanes were caught off guard by the overwhelming demand. By the middle of the second period, every last mug had been snapped up, leaving many fans empty-handed and eager for more.

According to Adam Hoffman, Lenovo Center’s vice president for food and beverage, fans shouldn’t expect to see the beer skate back in stock during this playoff stretch. Hoffman explained to ESPN that the challenge of placing another order with their specialty promotional item vendor makes restocking during the current series unlikely.

And Lenovo Center vice president for food and beverage, Adam Hoffman, told ESPN they will not be restocked for the rest of the playoff run, citing the difficulty in trying to turn around another order with the specialty promotional item vendor the Hurricanes used.

“We really thought we had purchased enough, and then this thing just blew up. Fans went crazy for it, which is great. We love that we created something that they wanted to have,” Hoffman told the outlet. “I don’t want to say we weren’t prepared for them to buy as many as they did, but obviously we didn’t think it was going to blow up exactly the way that it did, which is just so awesome.”

The Hurricanes join a group of NHL teams that have had specialty items for their respective playoff runs to generate buzz among hockey fans.

The Sabres reintroduced the beer sabre for the playoffs after they had sold out of them during the regular season and then restocked after their playoff drought ended.

The Mammoth unveiled the tusk mug at Delta Center last month.

The beer skate holds roughly 28 ounces of your favorite beverage and was sold for $19 for just the item alone and cost fans $12, along with the price of their drink, when they purchased it with liquid inside of it.

Local news station WRAL-TV reported that the Hurricanes had sold 4,687 beer skates during the Game 1 win over the Flyers and that the rush for them started during the pregame festivities in their fan plaza — where 300 were purchased.

Hoffman did suggest that they could make a return next season.

“We have already started talking about that,” he said. “I don’t know that I could say one way or the other whether or not that’s going to happen, but there also could be similar iterations. Maybe that’s the best way to call it.”

Maintaining a Bridge Pose for Extended Duration After 60 Signifies Exceptional Core Stability

How long can you maintain a bridge position after turning 60? Your response can be quite telling about your core strength.

Core stability past the age of 60 plays a crucial role in supporting your body through nearly every motion. It influences your posture, balance, lower back health, and even the ease of your walk. Having worked with clients in this age group for many years, I’ve consistently observed that those with robust core stability move more confidently, suffer fewer discomforts, and sustain better overall strength. One highly effective method to assess this stability is through a straightforward yet impactful exercise: the bridge hold.

The bridge exercise doesn’t solely focus on the core; it integrates the glutes, lower back, and deep stabilizing muscles into a unified effort. Unlike conventional ab workouts that target movement in isolation, the bridge compels various muscle groups to collaborate in maintaining the body’s position. This collaboration is precisely what core stability entails in everyday life.

Many individuals tend to underestimate this exercise. Performing a bridge hold with correct form quickly reveals any weaknesses in the posterior chain and deep core muscles. As fatigue sets in, the hips may start to sag, or the lower back might begin to dominate.

Many people underestimate this test. Holding a bridge with proper form quickly exposes weaknesses in the posterior chain and deep core muscles. As fatigue builds, the hips begin to drop, or the lower back starts to take over.

If you want a clear measure of how strong and stable your core really is, this test delivers immediate, honest feedback.

How to Perform the Bridge Properly

Form determines everything here. I always remind clients that a shorter hold with perfect positioning gives far more value than a longer hold with poor alignment.

Lie on your back with knees bent and feet flat on the floor. Press through your heels and lift your hips until your body forms a straight line from shoulders to knees. Engage your glutes and core to hold the position.

Avoid arching your lower back or letting your hips sag. Keep your core tight, your glutes engaged, and your breathing steady throughout the hold.

How to Do It

  • Lie on your back with knees bent
  • Place feet flat on the ground
  • Lift hips into a straight line
  • Squeeze glutes and brace your core
  • Hold as long as possible

What Your Time Means After 60

Your bridge hold time reflects how well your core and posterior chain maintain stability under continuous tension. Because this movement requires coordination between multiple muscle groups, it gives a strong indication of real-world strength and control.

Here’s a general benchmark for adults over 60:

  • Under 20 seconds: Core stability needs improvement
  • 20–40 seconds: Below average control
  • 40–60 seconds: Solid stability
  • 60–90 seconds: Strong core endurance
  • 90+ seconds: Top-tier core stability

Holding a bridge for 90 seconds or longer with proper form places you well above average. That level of control typically reflects strong glutes, a stable core, and good muscular endurance.

Improving your bridge hold comes down to building endurance while maintaining proper alignment. I’ve seen clients make fast progress by focusing on shorter, controlled holds rather than pushing to failure every time.

Start with 20–30 second holds and repeat for multiple rounds. Rest briefly between sets, then gradually increase your hold time as your strength improves. This approach builds endurance without sacrificing form.

Adding movements like glute bridges with reps, heel presses, and core stabilization exercises helps strengthen the muscles involved. These supporting exercises improve your ability to maintain the hold longer.

Focus on squeezing your glutes and keeping your core engaged throughout each attempt. Over time, your body adapts, fatigue sets in more slowly, and your bridge hold time improves faster than expected.
