Deputies Report Incident of 14-Year-Old Boy Dragged Through Dog Urine

In a troubling incident out of Louisiana, a couple has been arrested following allegations of child abuse involving a 14-year-old boy. According to the authorities, the woman involved forcibly dragged the boy through dog urine while her male companion stood by and did nothing to intervene.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office has identified the woman as 44-year-old Gina Sagona, who now faces charges of cruelty to a juvenile. Her partner, 45-year-old Mark Sagona, has been charged as a principal to the same offense, indicating his complicit behavior by failing to prevent the abuse.

The disturbing episode came to light on Monday when law enforcement was called to a residence in Ascension Parish. The intervention was prompted by a report from the local Department of Children and Family Services, which highlighted “a child abuse incident” involving the teenage boy. Ascension Parish is centrally located in Louisiana, nestled between the major cities of Baton Rouge and New Orleans.

Mark Sagona, 45, was charged with principal to cruelty to a juvenile.

On Monday, law enforcement responded to a home in Ascension Parish after a report from the area Department of Children and Family Services detailed “a child abuse incident” there involving a 14-year-old boy. Ascension Parish is located between Baton Rouge and New Orleans in the center of the state.

Detectives say that during their investigation, they “reviewed home video footage showing Gina Sagona force the juvenile face down into dog urine and then drag him through it.” The sheriff’s office added that the teenager “was also struck multiple times.”

Mark Sagona was allegedly “present during portions of the incident.”

When investigators interviewed Gina Sagona, she reportedly “admitted to the abuse.” She and Mark Sagona were arrested and booked into the Ascension Parish Jail in Donaldsonville, Louisiana.

Authorities stressed that the investigation was ongoing. The relationship between the defendants and the teen is unclear.

Jail records show both defendants were booked into the jail on Monday and are still in custody. Gina Sagona is being held on a $50,000 bond while Mark Sagona is being held on a $40,000 bond.

They are both awaiting an arraignment in court, the records add.

Discover the Common Fridge Staple Proven to Reduce Alzheimer’s Risk

0

IN BRIEF

  • Eating seafood twice a week may decrease the risk of Alzheimer’s by 30 per cent.
  • Protecting memory cells is not the only benefit of consuming seafood.

For a significant number of Australians, seafood is just a part of their diet. However, scientists propose that it might also serve as a potent shield against a dreaded brain disorder.

According to a recent study conducted by researchers from Curtin University and Murdoch University, consuming seafood twice weekly could reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer’s by 30% and dementia by 10%.

This study involved a comprehensive review of scientific literature on seafood and human nutrition, evaluating 281 peer-reviewed research papers.

300 grams a week

Alexandra McManus, an epidemiologist from Curtin University, noted that the research advocates for a weekly intake of 300 grams of seafood.

“We aren’t recommending an enormous quantity, nor are we suggesting anything particularly costly. It’s fundamentally about maintaining health throughout our lives,” she explained to the Australian Associated Press.

In recent years, various studies have shown a positive impact of eating seafood on the prevention of Alzheimer’s.

A 2024 study in Europe, published in the journal Aging Clinical and Experimental Research, has shown that eating fish is linked to a lower risk of cognitive decline. The research showed that those with the highest fish consumption had a lower likelihood of developing Alzheimer’s and dementia.

According to another research, a Mediterranean-style diet rich in oily fish can help reduce the risk of dementia.

More than protecting the brain

Protecting memory cells is not the only benefit of consuming seafood.

“Seafood is a great source of lean protein and provides other nutrients, including vitamins A and D, B group vitamins, iodine, zinc, selenium and iron,” McManus said.

For older adults, regularly eating seafood can help boost bone health and muscle strength.

“If you have, say, four servings of seafood a week, you can maintain that strength in your muscles and that overall function,” McManus said.

“Once you have good muscle strength and good muscle function, then you’ve got less chance of falling.”

McManus’ research indicates that consuming seafood twice a week can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease by 30 per cent. Additionally, adults who regularly eat seafood show a 26 per cent lower risk of experiencing depression.

Based on the research, Omega-3s found in seafood play a key role in reducing inflammation, supporting blood vessel function and maintaining brain structure.

“Whilst there are a number of supplements on the market that are high in Omega-3s and can provide good health benefits, there are many more benefits to eating whole seafood,” McManus said.

“Previously, it was just eat more fish, but this is eat more seafood as part of a healthy diet.”

Nutrition scientist and dietitian Joanna McMillan said, “Two serves a week is something virtually every Australian can do.”

“We’re not talking about an expensive supplement routine or a complicated diet overhaul, just one small, realistic change that can make a genuine difference to long-term health.”

McMillan said that “fresh, frozen and across a variety of species, all seafood counts toward your two serves”.

Secret Service Foils Security Breach at Trump’s Florida Golf Course: Tensions Rise Post-Press Event Shooting

0

On Saturday afternoon, the Secret Service apprehended a disorderly individual at President Trump’s golf course in Florida. This incident comes only a week after a shooting took place during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

The unnamed person was taken into custody at a security checkpoint at Trump Doral National Golf Club around 4:15 p.m. Allegedly, the suspect created a disturbance, ignored commands, and engaged in a physical altercation with a Secret Service agent, according to statements from both the Secret Service and the Doral Police Department.

President Trump was not present at the venue when this event occurred.

Footage shared by conservative commentator Nick Sortor on social media captured the dramatic moments. In the video, the individual appears to be shuffling in place while being handcuffed, having reportedly triggered magnetometers at the club’s entry screening area.

The checkpoint was staffed by federal agents alongside local law enforcement officers, ensuring security at the location.

“At no point did this situation impact the established security posture for any upcoming visits to Trump Doral National Golf Club by Secret Service protectees,” Michael Townsend, Acting Special Agent in Charge of Secret Service Miami told The Post.

The agitator was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting without violence.

He is now being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami, police said.

The incident comes after alleged shooter Cole Allen charged through a security checkpoint at the Washington Hilton while armed with a shotgun, knives and other weapons, in an attempt to assassinate Trump and members of his cabinet during last weekend’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

The California teacher is charged with attempting to assassinate the president, transporting weapons across state lines with intent to commit a felony, and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence.

If convicted, the 31-year-old would-be assassin faces up to life in prison.

Residents Battle Unprecedented Rat Surge with Drastic Measures

0

Each evening, Doug Perry and his wife, Barbara, found their attempts at a peaceful night’s sleep thwarted by the persistent noise of rats gnawing on cables and scampering through their Idaho residence.

Frustrated by the nightly disturbances, the pair decided to take action by deploying sticky glue pads and traps throughout their home, while also installing a Ring camera in the kitchen to capture the intruders in the act.

Despite their efforts, the couple was repeatedly awakened by alerts indicating that the rodent intruders had returned to the kitchen. Doug noted that these “smart” rats often managed to outsmart their traps, retreating through a small cable hole behind the television before they could reach the scene.

“My wife was losing her mind,” shared Doug, 71, from Boise, in an interview with the Daily Mail. “It was a long, exhausting ordeal.”

“They’re incredibly quick and agile,” he commented, adding that the rodents could leap up to six feet. “They’re dreadful creatures.”

For several years, this has become a common occurrence for residents of Ada County as sightings of vermin have been growing at a rapid rate and costing residents thousands in private pest control.

Residents, like Doug, told the Daily Mail they’ve had to take matters into their own hands as lawmakers have failed to help them.

‘We tried everything and nothing worked,’ Doug told the Daily Mail.

That is until one night in January last year, Doug scurried faster than a rat to his kitchen, catching the massive vermin by the tail with his bare hands after getting a Ring notification.

‘I just had to kill him in my kitchen. It was a war,’ Doug said. ‘It was a nightmare.’

After that, the couple was miraculously left alone, and peaceful sleep was finally theirs again, but they are one of the lucky ones in the county.

People across Ada and the Treasure Valley area are being terrorized by the beasts with the population of Norway and roof rats growing to ‘apocalyptic’ levels, according to residents. Norway are the same species as the ones in New York City.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, State Representative Steve Berch warned: ‘Not dealing with the issue properly or in a timely manner can – and will – result in tens of thousands of dollars in damage.’

Idaho runs under what is known as Dillon’s Rule, which subscribes to the notion that the state government is the principal source of authority. It limits local government’s authority to create programs and procedures without the state’s approval.

Rats are not mentioned in the state’s law, so local governments have a hard time addressing the problem on a smaller level.

There is also not a local agency that is currently tasked with dealing with the problem.

In March Berch introduced a Senate bill, called the Rodents of Unusual Size Act, after his constituents contacted him about the growing problem.

It failed in the State House, with 13 representatives, whose constituents live in the hotspots of Ada and Canyon Counties, voting no. If four of them had changed their mind, the bill would have passed.

Berch, a Democrat, blamed Republicans for letting the bill fail 32-38, as every Democrat had voted in favor of it.

‘Remember who to hold accountable: A short-sighted legislature, controlled by the majority party, that wouldn’t even approve the development of a plan – not spend money – just develop a plan to figure out what needs to be done,’ he wrote on Facebook after it failed to go through.

Some Republicans argued controlling the rat population would harm local pest control companies, but Berch said it would actually result in the exact opposite, as the state would have contracts with them to manage the infestation.

‘It’s a new invasion of an invasive species,’ Berch told the Daily Mail. ‘To deal with that, they would actually turn to the private sector for that expertise.’

He also said without mass efforts across the impacted counties and the state, Idaho could see a statewide infestation.

He fears the state will wait until it’s too late to react and it won’t be possible to get rid of them.

Ryan Davidson, the District 1 commissioner for Ada County, spent his summers growing up killing pests with his father’s company, but he never came across rats until recently.

He saw his constituents posting photos of rats on their social media pages, and he worried the county wasn’t prepared for the problem.

‘This is something new,’ he recalled thinking to the Daily Mail.

With the state legislature not passing new laws to help the county, Davidson told the Daily Mail that local officials are considering different avenues to help the problem without the state government.

So far, they haven’t been able to find a workaround, he said.

‘We’re still trying to figure out what exactly the extent of our authority is,’ he added.

Their best chance is to have a voter-approved abatement, much like the county did for mosquito control. It would create a new taxing district to pay for private pest control.

In the meantime, homeowners can expect to spend thousands of dollars to rid their homes of rats that invade their attic, crawl spaces, and kitchen pantries. And they may have to do it repeatedly if the problem isn’t eradicated on a large scale.

The City of Boise has increased its efforts to educate locals on how to prevent a rat infestation, including telling them to seal entry points, reduce moisture by fixing leaky pipes, and make sure to trim back trees and shrubs that could provide cover for rodents.

Politicians have largely blamed the influx, that started in 2002, on those moving into the area from California, Oregon, and Washington for bringing the rats to Idaho – despite the lack of proof.

Norway rats have been spotted in Washington, and roof rats tend to like warmer climates.

Treasure Valley also offers convenient throughfares for vermin through its irrigation canals.

The City of Eagle has been largely determined as the origin of the infestation and many people have dubbed the pests ‘Eagle’ rats.

Eagle spokesperson, Laura Williams, told the Idaho Statesman the city is ‘aware of the problem’ but that officials are stuck ‘in a holding pattern at the moment’ as state and city law does not address the rat population.

For now, the problem is growing and legislators are waiting for the new session to open to beg state lawmakers for any help they can get.

Karl-Anthony Towns Celebrates Honorable Cameo in ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2

0

Karl-Anthony Towns has already made quite a splash this postseason.

Leading the New York Knicks to triumph over the Atlanta Hawks in their first-round playoff series was just the beginning. On Friday, Towns expanded his repertoire with a cameo in the newly released film “The Devil Wears Prada 2.”

In the movie, Towns plays himself in a memorable scene set at a glamorous party hosted by the iconic Miranda Priestly, portrayed by Meryl Streep, in the Hamptons.

During the event, he crosses paths with Anne Hathaway’s character, Andy. Their interaction includes Andy expressing her admiration for Towns and her support for the Knicks.

She tells him she’s a big fan of his and the Knicks.

“It was an honor,” Towns said. “It was an honor and it was awesome to just see the masses of work at work in the acting world, and to be able to see them just do what they do at the highest level, it was such an honor.”

Towns was invited to the red-carpet premiere, but he couldn’t make it.

It was the same night as Game 2 of the Knicks’ first-round series against the Hawks.

In real life, the 43-year-old Hathaway is a big fan of the Knicks, frequently attending games at the Garden.

“I’m very chill, loving and calm, but I’m also the type of fan that I considered wearing an OG [Anunoby] jersey out here today,” Hathaway said in a recent appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”

“When I’m at the game, I want them to know that I know who they are and that they’re going to win. I don’t want to get out into like, ‘What are you doing?’ [and] all that; I want them to know that you can do no wrong. I’m trying to be a gentle, loving, motherly fan.”

The Knicks began using Jalen Brunson as a screener more frequently toward the end of the Hawks series.

Coach Mike Brown believes he has seen only one guard better as a screener: John Stockton.

“You have to have a toughness about you to screen, because if you are a point guard, you are probably screening somebody bigger than you every time you screen somebody,” Brown said. “John had a toughness about him. And Jalen has a toughness about him. Steph [Curry] has a toughness about him. It takes that first and the rest of the stuff comes after.”

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon Host Dual Celebrations for Twins’ 15th Birthday

Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon marked a milestone for their twins, Monroe and Moroccan, who turned 15 on April 30, by throwing two separate but equally memorable celebrations.

Carey organized an intimate gathering that featured a dazzling fireworks display. The evening’s festivities were captured in photos showing the twins, affectionately known as Roc and Roe, enjoying the company of friends while sporting matching birthday T-shirts. Carey shared these joyful moments on Instagram, captioning the post, “Happy Birthday, Roc & Roe!!!! I love you so much, Mom.”

The twins expressed their gratitude in the comments section, with Moroccan writing, “Love you mom, I’m so grateful,” and Monroe adding, “I love you mom!”

Meanwhile, Cannon treated his children to a thrilling day at Six Flags Magic Mountain. He shared pictures of Monroe and Moroccan posing in front of celebratory balloons, both wearing coordinating shirts, to commemorate their special day.

Cannon also celebrated his twins with a trip to Six Flags Magic Mountain. He posted photos where the teens stood together in coordinating shirts in front of balloons marking the occasion.

He wrote, “Got two 15 year olds on my hands now!!!! Happy Birthday to my first firstborns! I thank God and you for allowing me to be your Dad! I love you Roc and Roe! Happy Birthday! @sixflagsmagicmountain.”

Monroe and Moroccan were born in 2011 during Carey and Cannon’s marriage. The pair married in 2008, separated in 2014, and finalized their divorce in 2016. They have continued to co-parent and remain present for major moments in their children’s lives.

During a recent appearance on Club Shay Shay, Cannon shared that he will forever be in love with his ex-wife.

“I mean, that’s that was that was my wife. That was literally my dream girl,” he said. “And then the fact that we still have such a great relationship to this day, I don’t think you can’t compare it to anybody else. You know what I mean? And I believe I was truly in love with her and will always be in love with her.”

He also joked about wanting more kids with her.

“If Mariah wanted more kids, I’m giving her three more. We going all the way in,” he added.

Budget Airline Collapse: Major American Low-Cost Carrier Files for Bankruptcy

0

Thousands of travelers have been left stranded, and numerous employees are without work following the sudden closure of Spirit Airlines, a major low-cost airline in the United States.

The budget airline announced it would start an “orderly wind-down of operations, effective immediately” on May 2 after 34 years in the business.

“All Spirit flights have been cancelled, and passengers should refrain from heading to the airport,” announced the airline in an official statement.

Across the country, passengers encountered deserted check-in areas at airports, accompanied by notices indicating that all flights were canceled and customer support was no longer available.

Spirit Airlines attributed the shutdown to the surging costs of jet fuel, which have more than doubled since the onset of the Middle East conflict in February, along with “additional pressures on the business,” resulting in 17,000 employees losing their jobs.

“In March 2026, we successfully negotiated a restructuring plan with our bondholders, which would have allowed us to continue operations,” stated Spirit President and CEO Dave Davis.

“However, the sudden and sustained rise in fuel prices in recent weeks ultimately has left us with no alternative but to pursue an orderly wind-down of the Company.”

Sustaining the business would have required hundreds of millions of dollars the airline “simply does not have and could not procure,” Davis said.

“This is tremendously disappointing and not the outcome any of us wanted,” he said.

Spirit’s bankruptcy has sparked concerns other low-cost carriers could be next.

But the airline faced significant challenges before the conflict broke out, including large debt, two bankruptcies within a year and a failed government bailout bid just weeks ago.

After failing to bounce back from the COVID-19 pandemic, the airline filed for bankruptcy in November 2024, having haemorrhaged more than US$2.5 billion ($3.5 billion) since the start of 2020.

Spirit sought bankruptcy protection for the second time in August 2025, reporting $11.2 billion in debts and $11.9 billion in assets.

A major restructure followed, which sought to cut flights and operational costs by furloughing and downgrading pilots and flight attendants.

Spirit told creditors the restructure would allow them to post a net $304 million profit by 2027.

But just six months later, on April 18, the airline asked the US government for an emergency bailout.

Bail-out negotiations with the Trump Administration, reported to be worth $500 million, collapsed in recent days, sparking the airline’s collapse today.

The airline serviced destinations across the US, Central America, the Caribbean and South America.

Around 9000 flights were scheduled until the end of May, according to Cirium analytics, potentially impacting millions of passengers across the month.

Refunds will be processed for impacted customers who booked directly with the airline, Spirit said, while passengers with third-party bookings should contact their travel agent.

“Compensation for Guests who booked flights using any other methods, including a voucher, credit or Free Spirit points, will be determined at a later date,” Spirit said.

Golden Tempo Gallops to Victory in Thrilling 152nd Kentucky Derby Finish

0

In a thrilling finish at Churchill Downs, Golden Tempo surged ahead, securing victory in the Kentucky Derby and making history by giving Cherie Devaux the honor of being the first female trainer to win the prestigious ‘Run for the Roses’.

Golden Tempo, a long shot with 23-1 odds, staged an impressive comeback to overtake the contenders and ultimately defeat the morning favorite, Renegade, with a powerful sprint from the outside.

Renegade secured the second position, adding another year to the streak where the morning favorite did not win this iconic race. Ocelli, with odds of 70-1, finished in third place, followed by Chief Wallabee in fourth.

This outcome was a significant setback for Renegade’s owner, Mike Repole. The outspoken entrepreneur behind Vitamin Water and Bodyarmor, as well as an investor in horse racing and sports, has now experienced his ninth Kentucky Derby loss.

Jockey Jose Ortiz, fresh off a victory in the Kentucky Oaks aboard Always a Runner, made a remarkable comeback from last place at the final turn, guiding Golden Tempo to triumph. This victory was particularly memorable as he surpassed his brother, Irad Ortiz, who was riding Renegade.

Devaux becomes the second woman to ever win a triple crown race – joining Jena Antonucci who trained 2023 Belmont Stakes winner Arcangelo.

‘I don’t even have any words right now,’ Devaux said in the moments after the victory.

‘I’m glad that I could be a representative of all women everywhere that we can do anything we set our minds to.’

Speaking again at the winner’s circle, Devaux told NBC, ‘In the summer of 2017, I was kind of at a crossroads in life and [my husband] told me that I owed it to myself to at least try. And he had the faith in me and he saw what I didn’t see and believed in me.’

The 152nd edition of the historic race was run with only 18 horses instead of the maximum 20 after The Puma and Great White were scratched from the lineup at the last minute.

Churchill Downs officials announced on Saturday morning that The Puma was out because of a swollen leg from a skin infection.

Then, on the walk to the starting gate, Great White lost control and flipped over – throwing jockey Alex Achard from his saddle.

Great White – who entered the field after Silent Tactic was scratched – was examined on-track by veterinarians.

Eventually, the decision was made to take the saddle off the horse – denying Achard his Kentucky Derby debut.

The scratching of Great White further delayed the start of the race. After initially setting a post time of 6:57pm ET, the gates did not open until 7:08pm ET.

It has yet to be determined if Golden Tempo will attempt to become the 14th horse to win the American Triple Crown. The thoroughbred Justify was the last to do so in 2018.

The next phase of that test will be on May 16 in the 151st running of the Preakness Stakes.

The Preakness will be run away from its traditional home of Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore due to construction. Instead, the one-and-three-sixteenths mile race will be held at Laurel Park outside the city.

If Golden Tempo races and wins that, the final test of the Triple Crown will be the Belmont Stakes.

Just like the Preakness, the Belmont Stakes will be run away from its traditional home at Belmont Park just outside the limits of New York City.

Instead, for the third time in as many years, the Belmont Stakes will be run at the historic Saratoga Race Course in upstate New York. Saratoga is widely considered to be the oldest major sporting venue in the United States, having opened in 1863.

Global Food Security at Risk: Hormuz Crisis Sparks Fears of Prolonged Disruption on Suez Scale

0

Experts caution that concerns over a potential global famine are escalating due to surging food prices and vulnerable supply chains, exacerbated by the ongoing crisis in the Strait of Hormuz. This situation threatens an extended disruption akin to the scale of the Suez Canal blockage, potentially lasting up to eight years.

As the standoff reached its 62nd day, the United States continued enforcing its naval blockade on Iranian port traffic, while Iran persistently kept the strategic Strait closed.

“Ideally, a resolution between the U.S. and Iran will emerge in the coming weeks, allowing the Strait to reopen,” Lars Jensen, CEO and partner at Vespucci Maritime, shared with Fox News Digital.

“This agreement must ensure that Iran is sufficiently content with the terms, preventing any abrupt reclosure of the Strait,” he added.

“Even in that case, it will still take months for the supply chains to revert back to normality.”

President Donald Trump announced April 21 he would delay renewed strikes on Iran until it presents a proposal for long-term peace, effectively extending a 14-day ceasefire indefinitely.

Trump said Washington’s blockade of Iranian ports has been effective, urging Tehran to “just give up” as tensions escalate over the waterway.

“Worst case, we can look at the eight-year closure of the Suez Canal from 1967 to 1975,” Jensen said.

“Despite its importance to the global economy, it proved impossible to reopen the canal for those eight years,” he said.

The Suez Canal, shut from 1967 to 1975 after the Arab-Israeli conflict, has faced recurring disruption, including Red Sea attacks since 2023, driving up insurance costs, creating a “shadow blockade” and curbing traffic.

For Hormuz, Jensen says fertilizer, which is central to agricultural production, is the most critical factor, and any sustained disruption could quickly ripple through global food systems.

“Fertilizer is the most important element. Thirty percent of the world’s seaborne fertilizer comes from the Persian Gulf,” Jensen said. “Fertilizer prices are already rising fast,” he warned.

“In wealthy countries, it means more expensive food come harvest season, and, in poor countries, it means that farmers right now cannot afford fertilizer,” Jensen added.

“This will lead to the harvest being lower later in the season, leading to rapid increases in food prices in very poor countries. And such a situation increases the risk of famine and conflict.”

Diplomatic efforts remained fragile between the U.S. and Iran as of Thursday, with limited signs of progress.

According to reports, a giant banner hangs on a building in Tehran’s central Enqelab Square declaring, “The Strait of Hormuz will remain closed; the entire Persian Gulf is our hunting ground.”

“Cargo vessels are not going through for the simple reason that commercial companies do not want to see their seafarers potentially killed,” Jensen added.
