Controversy Erupts Over Bunny Sculptures in California’s Wealthiest City

0

A controversy is brewing in a wealthy California town over a set of whimsical rabbit statues nestled in a beloved local park.

In Newport Beach, residents find themselves at odds over a collection of 4-foot concrete rabbits, affectionately dubbed “Bunnyhenge.” This playful installation has charmed many, particularly children, but not everyone appreciates its presence.

The future of these quirky sculptures is now uncertain. City officials are considering relocating them to make way for a proposed police headquarters on what they deem an ideal site.

This proposal has ignited a heated debate, pitting local lawmakers against community members. The latter are not only worried about the potential loss of Bunnyhenge but also express concern over the impact on Civic Center Park, a cherished open space.

The proposal has sparked a fierce debate between lawmakers and their constituents who are not only concerned about losing Bunnyhenge, but also a large part of Civic Center Park.

The development, one of four proposals, would require roughly a third of the park’s space including where Bunnyhenge sits.

Local resident Nancy Skinner told a city council meeting: ‘We have to keep [the new station] out of the park. I’m just shocked to think that we, with just a small ad hoc committee, made a decision without any significant input from the residents in the city.’

Former Newport Beach Mayor Don Webb also told the Orange County Register: ‘If you take a third of it, it will totally minimize the feeling we have today. I suggest looking across the street.’

Councilmember Sara Weber said in a city council meeting that she supports the police headquarters replacing the area of the statues

Councilmember Sara Weber said in a city council meeting that she supports the police headquarters replacing the area of the statues

‘Never, in my wildest dreams, did I think I would be sitting up here talking about the bunnies, but here we are,’ said Councilmember Sara Weber in a March 10 meeting of the Newport Beach City Council, according to the SF Gate.

‘So from a location perspective, central access is extremely important for police operations, response times, and, in my opinion, maintaining a visible public safety presence in the center of our city.’

Other locations or redeveloping the current police headquarters were also floated as potential options, but Councilmember Erik Weigand said building on the park is the best option.

‘We need to study whether the Civic Center even works, but it is the best option at the moment because we own the land,’ said Weigand.

‘If we can find something in Newport Center that is affordable, I’d be happy to support that. We cannot build on Santa Barbara [the existing police station], nor do I support moving all the way out to the airport.’

The 14 bunny statues were installed in the park in 2014, along with two larger rabbits, after the city purchased them for $221,000.

Newport Beach Mayor Lauren Kleiman told the outlet that the outrage over the development plans is unwarranted, given that no decisions have been made.

But Former Newport Beach Mayor Don Webb is against relocating the rabbits over fears it will reduce the size of Civic Center Park where they are located

‘I love the bunnies,’ said the mayor. ‘Putting it [police headquarters] at the Civic Center Park doesn’t eliminate the park of the open space. I’m a little confused about how all this narrative has spiraled so far out of control.’

But according to SF Gate, if the headquarters is built on the park, the bunnies are likely to be relocated.

Despite this new addition, Head Coach Sean McVay has confirmed that the team’s offensive reins remain firmly in the hands of former MVP Matthew Stafford. Simpson is expected to step into the starting quarterback role in the future, once Stafford decides to retire.

During his tenure with the Crimson Tide, Simpson only started for one season but managed to make a significant impact. He threw for more than 3,500 yards and completed 64.5 percent of his passes over 15 games, leaving a lasting impression on the Rams’ decision-makers.

Their second and third round selections included Ohio State tight end Max Clare with the 61st overall and Missouri offensive tackle Keagen Trost at 93rd.

Los Angeles was viewed as a preseason contender last season before a 12-5 campaign that concluded with a loss to the Seahawks in the NFC Championship.

The Seahawks, Bills and Ravens trail the Rams at 10/1 — a price that also increased from +950 since pre-draft.

The reigning Super Bowl champions selected Notre Dame running back Jadarian Price with the 32nd-overall pick. Price is expected to take the lead role immediately after Kenneth Walker III left for Kansas City and Zach Charbonnet is still recovering from an ACL injury.

Betting on the NFL?

Seattle took TCU safety Bud Clark and Arkansas cornerback Julian Neal with the 64th and 99th picks, respectively.

Neither the Bills’ nor the Ravens’ price tags budged. The Ravens selected Penn State guard Olaivavega Ioane at 14th overall, while the Bills did not have a first-round pick.

The Packers dropped from 15/1 to 16/1 after not picking until taking South Carolina cornerback Brandon Cisse at 50th overall.

Dallas and Cincinnati both made the largest jumps. The Cowboys improved from 28/1 to 25/1 while the Bengals went from 25/1 to 22/1.

MEMORISE: With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men: – Ephesians 6:7 (KJV)

READ: Genesis 18:1-10 (KJV)

1 And the Lord appeared unto him in the plains of Mamre: and he sat in the tent door in the heat of the day;

2 And he lift up his eyes and looked, and, lo, three men stood by him: and when he saw them, he ran to meet them from the tent door, and bowed himself toward the ground,

3 And said, My Lord, if now I have found favour in thy sight, pass not away, I pray thee, from thy servant:

4 Let a little water, I pray you, be fetched, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree:

5 And I will fetch a morsel of bread, and comfort ye your hearts; after that ye shall pass on: for therefore are ye come to your servant. And they said, So do, as thou hast said.

6 And Abraham hastened into the tent unto Sarah, and said, Make ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make cakes upon the hearth.

7 And Abraham ran unto the herd, and fetcht a calf tender and good, and gave it unto a young man; and he hasted to dress it.

8 And he took butter, and milk, and the calf which he had dressed, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree, and they did eat.

9 And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent.

10 And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 2 Kings 22-23

Open Heaven 26 April 2026 MESSAGE

Today, I will be discussing how God’s children can attract His help by serving Him willingly, joyfully, and wholeheartedly.

In today’s Bible reading, when Abraham saw three men passing by his tent, he ran to meet them and invited them to take a break from their journey by resting under the shade of a nearby tree. Even though they were complete strangers, he voluntarily offered to host them, and by so doing, he unknowingly hosted God’s presence. Abraham’s hospitality must have prompted God to arise for him and heal the barrenness he was experiencing in his marriage. Those who serve God voluntarily always attract His help.

One day, someone asked me, “Sir, what do you think about instrumentalists who insist on being paid by churches before they minister with their instruments? Should they be paid?” I replied, “No one pays for the same service twice. If they insist on being paid before they minister, the church should pay them. However, they should not expect any special blessing from God for their service because the church has already paid them.” If a fellow insists on being paid to serve God, such a fellow should not expect any special help from God on account of that service. A son who asks his father to pay him before he will wash the father’s car cannot expect to enjoy the same benefits as the one who serves the father willingly and joyfully. One of the reasons I enjoy God’s help today is that I left everything to serve Him when there was nothing enticing, humanly speaking, about working for Him.

There is a difference between serving man and serving God. With a man, it is possible for a fellow to get away with eye service and even get promoted, even though he or she is not serving willingly from the heart. However, God sees the heart, and if anyone serves Him unwillingly, He does not owe such a person any reward.

And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I be loved. – 2 Corinthians 12:15

In the Scripture above, Apostle Paul expressed his willingness to spend and be spent for the work of God, not only because he loved God but also because he loved the people whom God had sent him to. Beloved, if you want to attract God’s help, serve Him willingly and wholeheartedly. He is faithful, and He will never forget your labour of love (Hebrews 6:10).

Open Heaven 26 April 2026 HYMN 4 – To The Work! To The Work! We Are Servants Of God

1 To the work! to the work!
we are servants of God,
Let us follow the path that our
Master has trod;
With the balm of His counsel
our strength to renew,
Let us do with our might what
our hands find to do.
Toiling on, toiling on,
Toiling on, toiling on,
Let us hope, let us watch,
And labour till the Master comes.

2 To the work! to the work!
let the hungry be fed,
To the fountain of life let
the weary be led!
In the cross and its banner
our glory shall be,
While we herald the tidings,
“Salvation is free!”

3 To the work! to the work!
there is labour for all,
For the kingdom of darkness
and error shall fall;
And the name of Jehovah exalted shall be,
In the loud-swelling chorus,
“Salvation is free!”

4 To the work! to the work!
in the strength of the Lord,
And a robe and a crown shall
our labour reward,
When the home of the faithful
our dwelling shall be,
And we shout with the ransomed,
“Salvation is free!”

Undocumented Immigrant Faces Charges for Allegedly Biting Toddler at Texas Park; ICE Issues Detainer Following Arrest: DHS

0

An unauthorized immigrant is facing charges for allegedly biting the face of a 3-year-old girl at a park in Texas, authorities report. Following his arrest, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has issued a detainer for the suspect.

The incident involved 27-year-old Gabriella Perez and her daughter, Amelia, while they were at Espada Park on April 18. San Antonio police claim that 24-year-old Artharva Vyas, an Indian citizen, carried out the attack.

According to police reports, Vyas is accused of assaulting the mother by pulling her hair and punching her, which caused her to drop her daughter. He then allegedly attacked the young girl and bit her on the face.

This case has attracted attention due to the fact that Vyas had previously been arrested for a purported felony assault after entering the U.S. in 2023 but was not deported, as stated by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Mugshot of Atharva Vyas against a blurred background

Atharva Vyas, who first came to the U.S. in August 2023 on a student visa, was detained months later on charges of assault. (BCSO)

Witnesses restrained Vyas until officers arrived, according to police.

The child’s mother later described the attack as something “out of a zombie movie.”

Since the attack, Perez created a GoFundMe page, saying her daughter lost two teeth and “has needed constant care, comfort, and reassurance.”

“She is unable to return to daycare or be left with anyone else, so I have had to take time away from work to be by her side,” the page’s description reads.

Vyas was charged with injury to a child with intent to cause bodily injury, assault causing bodily injury, and illegal entry, according to authorities. He was booked into the Bexar County Detention Center.

ICE has lodged a detainer requesting that local authorities transfer Vyas to federal custody after his criminal proceedings, according to DHS.

DHS said Vyas first entered the United States in August 2023 on a student visa. Three months later, he was arrested on the University of Texas campus on charges of felony assault, and university police contacted ICE.

According to DHS, “the Biden Admin determined the crime was not egregious enough to warrant visa revocation and decided to take no enforcement action against Vyas.”

Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis condemned the earlier decision not to revoke Vyas’ visa.

“This criminal illegal alien brutally bit this child and caused her to lose two teeth. This barbaric assault against this woman and her three-year-old in a park was completely preventable,” she said. “The Biden administration NEVER should have released this animal following his arrest for assault. We are working with our partners in Texas to ensure this criminal illegal alien never roams free in American communities again.”

DHS did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for additional comment.

Louisiana Restaurant Faces Investigation After Deer Roadkill Found in Freezer Alongside Food, Authorities Report

0

A restaurant in Louisiana has landed in hot water after police uncovered a deer carcass stored with food meant for patrons, sparking investigations by several agencies.

In Pineville, Louisiana, a social media video went viral showing what appeared to be restaurant employees skinning a deer. This alarming footage quickly caught the attention of local authorities, prompting an investigation.

The Pineville Police Department released a statement detailing their response on April 21. A complaint had been lodged about an employee reportedly skinning a dead animal behind the restaurant premises.

Upon their arrival, officers discovered evidence confirming that the animal in question was a deer. According to police reports, the deer had been retrieved from the roadside and transported back to the eatery.

Further investigation revealed that the deer carcass had been placed in a freezer, together with other food items. It was alleged that these items were intended for customer consumption, raising significant health and safety concerns.

Police contacted the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and the Louisiana Department of Health. Both departments are investigating.

No arrests or charges have been announced as of Saturday, April 25.

The restaurant posted a note to their front door regarding the investigation, according to KALB.

“We apologize for the recent incident. The item involved was never intended to be served to customers, but it was improperly stored. It has been fully cleaned and sanitized. We are cooperating with health authorities and have corrected our procedures to ensure this does not happen again. Thank you for your understanding.”

While eating deer is not uncommon in Louisiana, there are specific rules about roadkill. In Louisiana, the collection or harvesting of roadkill is illegal unless you have permission from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Child Forced to Drink Insulation for Water: Shocking Abuse Case Uncovered

0

Inset left to right: Jerome Norman and Mary Hall (Pike County Jail). Background: The rural road where the couple lived in Raccoon, Ky. (Google Maps).

A Kentucky couple has been sentenced to substantial prison terms for subjecting children in their care to severe abuse, reminiscent of torture.

In March, Jerome Norman and Mary Hall, both 44, submitted an Alford plea concerning three charges of first-degree criminal abuse. An Alford plea permits defendants to assert their innocence while acknowledging that the prosecution’s evidence would likely persuade a judge or jury of their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

On Friday, Pike Circuit Court Judge Eddy Coleman reduced two of the charges against each defendant to lesser offenses. He then imposed the maximum penalties for each charge, factoring in the time they had already spent in pretrial detention, as detailed in a report by the Appalachian News Express.

Norman and Hall both received a 20-year sentence for the first-degree abuse charge, along with two five-year sentences for the second-degree charges. However, the court decided to have these sentences run concurrently, which means each will serve nearly 20 years in prison. Both must complete 85 percent of their sentence before they can be considered for parole.

Technically, Norman and Hall were both sentenced to 20 years in prison for the first-degree count and two sentences of five years for the second-degree counts. The court, however, opted to run the sentences concurrently, or at the same time, meaning each defendant will spend just shy 20 years in prison. Each defendant will have to serve 85 percent of their sentence before they are eligible for parole.

The couple were arrested in January 2025, following concerns about one of the children in their custody upon his return from winter break, according to Hazard-based CBS affiliate WYMT. The student came back malnourished, bruised, and with a chipped tooth, leading to a complaint filed with the Kentucky State Police.

An ensuing investigation turned up more grave issues.

“These teachers were looking to make sure he was okay,” Pike County Commonwealth’s Attorney Bill Slone said in court. “And he was not okay. He was practically starved to death for five weeks.”

Troopers determined the children in the house were forced to live in a room locked from the outside with boarded-up windows. Authorities would compare the treatment to torture and insisted the couple did not want for resources to take care of the children properly.

“They were not drug addicts,” Slone said. “There were no drugs in the house. This was done with a clear mind. It was intentional.”

Hall took custody of the children after her sister died in a car crash in 2018 – their biological father was in prison for manslaughter. Then, in 2023, she moved in with Norman. That’s when things took a turn.

Soon, the children would come to school with mysterious bruises, educators noticed. At least one child displayed hunger patterns.

The oldest child was hospitalized five times – with one such stay lasting two and a half months – a social worker testified. All three children display mental emotional trauma along the lines of PTSD, ADHD, eating disorders, and development delays, she added.

“I did not see a typical child,” the social worker testified about first meeting the oldest child. “I saw evidence of prolonged suffering.”

As for where the children were kept, the social worker said there were “clear signs of confinement” when warrants were executed.

The children were also forced to perform manual labor and punished through the withholding of food – with the couple meting out most of the abuse to one child in particular.

“He sucked the insulation in the walls trying to get water,” the guardian ad litem of the children, a physician, said on Friday.

That child was forced to eat baby rice, the physician testified.

“Food is a basic human right,” she said. “It is not a punishment. You cannot take food away from a child because the child acts in a way you don’t agree with. They were tortured with food.”

The physician asked the court to impose the maximum sentence – which he did. The prosecutor welcomed that sentence as well.

“We are pleased with that,” Slone said. “Our laws don’t allow for cruel and unusual punishment, even to prisoners. So, they’ll never be subjected to the kind of punishment that they subjected those children to.”
