Michigan Senate Race Heats Up: Mike Rogers and Abdul El-Sayed Neck and Neck, Poll Reveals

0

Michigan’s general election for the U.S. Senate reveals a neck-and-neck race between Republican nominee Mike Rogers and Democratic nominee Abdulrahman Mohamed El-Sayed, according to a recent AARP poll.

In this fiercely contested race, El-Sayed holds a slim lead, capturing 48 percent of likely voters’ support, compared to Rogers’ 47 percent. Despite this narrow margin, Rogers finds solid backing among voters aged 50 and over, where he leads with 52 percent compared to El-Sayed’s 43 percent.

Particularly notable is Rogers’ commanding performance among older swing voters, individuals who do not consistently vote along party lines. In this group, the AARP poll reports Rogers holds a sizable 33-point lead over his Democratic opponent.

The survey further delves into Michigan’s gubernatorial contest, revealing a more decisive scenario. Democrat Jocelyn Benson, the current Secretary of State, holds a clear advantage over her Republican opponent, Congressman John James.

In the governor’s race, Benson garners the support of 49 percent of all likely voters, whereas 44 percent favor James. Among voters aged 50 and above, James has a slight edge, leading Benson by a mere one point. However, Benson finds substantial support among older swing voters, boasting a 28-point gap over James in this pivotal group.

Overall, the survey found that older voters — particularly those who are not “straight-ticket voters,” could determine the outcome of the elections in these close races.

This coincides with the fact that more of those ages 50+ describe themselves as “extremely motivated” to vote — 86 percent — compared to 71 percent of those ages 18 to 49 who say the same.

The survey was taken August 9-11, 2026, among 877 likely Michigan voters. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.3 percent.

The results follow a recent Fox News poll, also showing Rogers leading El-Sayed in the Senate race by four percentage points, or 51 to 47 percent. That also coincides with a recent EPIC-MIRS poll from the end of last month that has Rogers up by three, 46 to 43 percent.

Rogers has described El-Sayed as an “extremist” who wants to empty prisons and embrace the Muslim Brotherhood, writing in a statement, “I spent years hunting terrorists and bringing Osama bin Laden to justice. Never in a million years did I think that I would be running against someone who believes America deserved 9/11.”

Indeed, El-Sayed has embraced support from Hasan Piker, who said, “America deserved 9/11.” Instead of overtly condemning that remark, El-Sayed said that Piker’s words needed to be viewed in “context.”

Further, El-Sayed’s campaign recently confirmed that the Democrat nominee still follows Sharia law in his personal life.

Local Judge Dismisses Antisemitism Lawsuit Against Harvard, Sparks Outcry in Jewish Community

0

In a recent legal twist, Harvard University emerged victorious after a local judge dismissed the Department of Justice’s lawsuit alleging antisemitism on campus. The court determined that prior warnings about campus incidents did not establish a consistent pattern of civil rights infractions. Despite the ruling, Justice Department officials have flatly disagreed and are contemplating an appeal to challenge the decision.

The lawsuit stems from actions by the Trump administration, which had previously halted over $2 billion in grants and contracts in response to Harvard’s refusal to align with federal mandates concerning antisemitism. According to Reuters, the dispute highlights ongoing tensions between federal directives and institutional autonomy in higher education.

A protester holds up a sign that reads "Hands off! Harvard"

Simultaneously, StopAntisemitism’s founder, Liona Rez, voices her dissatisfaction, advocating for the dismissal of a broadcaster following controversial remarks made against an Israeli athlete, intensifying the debate over media responsibility and accountability.

Adding another layer to the contentious discourse, federal authorities are scrutinizing an anti-Israel nonprofit, linked to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani. Allegations suggest that donor contributions have been directed to a sanctioned Palestinian organization. Backed by Bassema Yousef, an ally of Mamdani, the U.K.-based group, known as “PFF,” reportedly holds a staggering $100 million. The Department of Homeland Security is probing potential connections to Al-Haq, although no criminal charges have yet been substantiated.

Feds are linked to Big Apple Mayor Zohran Mamdani over claims donor cash was funneled to a sanctioned Palestinian group. The U.K.-based “PFF”—backed by Mamdani ally Bassema Yousef—commands a mega $100M war chest. Homeland Security is investigating potential ties to Al-Haq, though no criminal wrongdoing is proven.

: State Department officials claim findings from UNICEF completely that Israel engineered a starvation campaign in Gaza. “The new data shows that the allegations of famine in Gaza were pure hysteria. While certain small pockets of hunger occurred in Gaza, we now know this can only have been an issue of distribution. Brian Hickerson Speaks Out on Hayden Panettiere’s Shocking Passing

0

Brian Hickerson, through his attorney, recently expressed his sorrow over the passing of his intermittent partner, Hayden Panettiere, who tragically passed away on Sunday, leaving many in shock.

Sloan Ellis, his legal representative, shared with TMZ on Thursday that the circumstances surrounding Hayden’s death are still being investigated. “It’s crucial that the investigation is permitted to continue unobstructed,” she emphasized.

The attorney reiterated the importance of respecting the process and the privacy of those affected. “Out of sensitivity toward Hayden’s family and friends, and given the active investigation, there will be no additional comments at this juncture,” the statement elaborated.

As previously reported by Page Six, Hayden, aged 36, was discovered lifeless in a residence located in Greenville, South Carolina, during the recent weekend.

On the scene were both Brian and his brother, Zach Hickerson. It was Zach who found Hayden’s body, while Brian remained asleep in another part of the apartment.

According to the 911 audio exclusively obtained by Page Six, paramedics responded to a call about an “unidentified female” in “cardiac arrest.” Within minutes, “CPR [was] in progress” for the “overdose.”

Authorities said there are no signs of foul play and a cause of death has not yet been revealed. The Drug Enforcement Administration has joined the investigation.

An autopsy obtained by us showed “no signs of trauma were discovered that would have contributed to the death.”

The day before Hayden’s death, she traveled from Los Angeles to South Carolina with Hickerson.

The “Remember the Titans” actress and the aspiring actor have dated on and off since 2018.

The pair had a tumultuous past, which included alleged incidents of abuse.

In May 2019, Hickerson was arrested for domestic violence due to an alleged incident with Hayden that resulted in her having redness and visible marks on her body.

At the time, the “Bring It On: All or Nothing” star and Hickerson were drinking in Hollywood the night before the physical altercation at their home. Hickerson was subsequently taken into custody for felony domestic violence for allegedly starting the fight.

In April 2021, Hickerson accepted a plea deal, pleading no contest to two felony counts of injuring a spouse or girlfriend. Six other counts were dismissed.

He was sentenced to 45 days in county jail, four years of formal probation, 52 mandatory domestic violence classes and a five-year restraining order.

Hayden is survived by her and ex-fiancé Wladimir Klitschko‘s daughter, Kaya, who was born in December 2014.

Kaya has been living in Ukraine with her father since 2018.

The actress made the “heartbreaking” decision to relinquish custody of Kaya to her ex as she struggled with addiction.

Margaret’s appearance comes after her rep confirmed her breakup to TMZ on July 10, insisting there ‘was no infidelity’ and ‘no trust issues’ leading to the demise of her ‘rocky’ marriage to the 42-year-old Bleachers frontman.

The two-time Actor Award nominee and the 14-time Grammy winner haven’t been pictured together since the Grammy Awards on February 1.

A source told DeuxMoi on July 8 that ‘there were many factors that allegedly contributed to the split, with those close to the situation also alleging Jack had long been difficult to live with’.

The Blue Moon actress and Antonoff – who began dating in the summer of 2021 – split in July after nearly three years of marriage.

Qualley changed her Instagram handle back to include her legal name Sarah Margaret Qualley instead of her previous handles @isimolady and @isimostar, which referenced the pop star hitmaker’s 2024 track Isimo.

The House Tour co-director recently deleted photos she shared in March on Instagram from their wedding day at Beach Haven in his native New Jersey.

Qualley was previously romantically linked to her Death Note co-star Nat Wolff, SNL alum Pete Davidson and her Love Me Like You Hate Me leading man Shia LaBeouf.

And Antonoff had reportedly dated the likes of photographer Carlotta Kohl, Golden Globe winner Lena Dunham and two-time Oscar nominee Scarlett Johansson.

Tennessee Driver Charged in Fatal Crash of Two College Cyclists Allegedly Ignored Braking: Court Documents Reveal

0

In a tragic accident that has shaken Tennessee, a driver allegedly collided with a group of college cyclists without attempting to slow down or avoid them, resulting in the deaths of two and severe injuries to five more. This is according to a recent affidavit that sheds light on the incident.

John Alexander Benfield, now at the center of serious legal proceedings, faces severe charges, including two counts of reckless vehicular homicide and five counts of reckless aggravated assault. These charges stem from a crash involving the Milligan University cycling team that took place on Wednesday in Carter County.

According to details from the affidavit submitted by the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 9 a.m. along Highway 19E, near Simerly Creek Road. Benfield was reportedly driving a 2003 Subaru Baja Sport following another vehicle which switched from the outside lane to the inside lane just before the collision.

Milligan University is grieving the loss of two of its talented sophomores, Haylan Engdahl and Brayden Rogers, who were tragically declared dead at the scene, according to a statement from the university. (Milligan University)

The affidavit notes that Benfield claimed he didn’t notice the cyclists as they traveled in the outside lane until the vehicle ahead changed lanes. The investigating trooper reported finding “no physical evidence” suggesting Benfield attempted to brake or swerve to avoid hitting the cyclists.

Two riders, Milligan University sophomores Haylan Engdahl and Brayden Rogers, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the university. Seven other cyclists suffered serious or critical injuries, the affidavit states.

Milligan said in a statement that the university was “profoundly shocked and saddened” by the deaths and asked the public to keep the victims, their families and the campus community in their prayers.

“There are no words to adequately describe this level of loss,” the university said. “Our prayers are with all those impacted by this tragedy. Please keep the Milligan community in your prayers.”

The affidavit also said that officers detected the odor of marijuana coming from Benfield’s vehicle. The document does not say whether Benfield was impaired, and he was not charged with driving under the influence in the warrant.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), which is leading the investigation, said Thursday that troopers are interviewing witnesses, reviewing evidence and examining the crash scene.

“We owe it to them to take the time, follow the facts and get this right,” Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security spokesperson Jason Pack said in a statement to News Media.

THP said its findings will be submitted to the district attorney’s office once the investigation is complete.

A judicial officer found probable cause for Benfield’s arrest Wednesday. His bond was set at $150,000, according to the warrant.

USA Cycling also issued a statement mourning Engdahl and Rogers and offering condolences to their families, teammates, coaches and the Milligan community.

“We are deeply saddened to learn of this morning’s tragic crash involving the Milligan University Cycling team. Our hearts go out to the two student-athletes whose lives were taken far too soon, Haylan Engdahl and Brayden Rogers, as well as to the riders who were injured,” the statement said.

News Media has reached out to the Carter County Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee District Attorneys General Conference for comment.

Embattled Democrat with Three Arrests Pushes for Controversial Pay Raise

0

In a bold move, a Texas Democrat with a history of three arrests while in office is making headlines with her bid for a significant salary increase.

Carla Wyatt, the Harris County Treasurer, is seeking to bump her pay to $250,000 or more, a proposal outlined in a formal salary grievance submitted to the county. The Houston Chronicle has obtained this request.

Should this request be granted, Wyatt’s paycheck would reflect a striking 79 percent increase from her current earnings of slightly more than $139,500.

This salary boost plea is part of the standard annual procedure that allows elected officials to petition a committee for pay hikes. The decision on Wyatt’s request is set to be made today.

In the grievance seen by reporters, Wyatt argues for compensation that accurately mirrors the “statutory responsibilities, fiduciary obligations, scope of authority, workload, and level of accountability” tied to her role as Harris County Treasurer.

The request comes after her office was stripped of some of its financial oversight powers in an ongoing effort to abolish her position entirely, the outlet reported.

Wyatt made the request while a drink driving case against her works its way though the legal system.

Police in Galveston said that they approached a car flagged by a concerned onlooker during a patrol in May, only to find the female driver, Wyatt, ‘to be asleep.’

An officer woke Wyatt up and asked her where she was, to which she responded that she was ‘in Heaven.’

After repeated attempts to get the treasurer to say where she was and where she was going, she finally said she was in Houston, trying to get to Galveston for a conference the next morning.

At one point, Wyatt admitted to having one glass of wine that evening, before eventually changing her story to two glasses.

The arresting officers said they ‘smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting’ from Wyatt.

Wyatt also sat on the rear bumper of her car to remain upright, the officer said, according to police documents obtained by ABC13.

She eventually failed a field sobriety test and was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

Wyatt was immediately taken to the Galveston County jail but has since been released, according to jail records.

The increase, if approved, would be a minimum of a 79 percent raise on her current salary of just over $139,500

‘We are looking forward to obtaining all of the available discovery in this case and investigating the basis for this arrest. Dr. Wyatt denies that she committed any criminal act whatsoever,’ Wyatt’s attorney, Christopher Downey, said in a statement.

In 2023, Wyatt was arrested and charged with a DWI for driving nearly double the legal blood alcohol limit.

Wyatt agreed, in exchange for dropping those charges, to go through a court-issued program.

Last year, Wyatt was arrested and charged with burglary of a vehicle.

She told prosecutors she had been checked for a ‘mini stroke’ and a grand jury declined to indict her.

Chelsea Eyes Arsenal Star Amid £500M Transfer Shake-up

0

Chelsea appears poised to dominate Premier League headlines as the summer transfer window draws to a frenetic close. However, the spotlight is not on new signings, but rather on the potential exodus of players.

With the strategic vision of new manager Xabi Alonso firmly in focus, the club aims to trim down its lineup, especially in light of the absence of European competitions this season. Alonso, together with Chelsea’s top brass, faces a ticking clock with less than two weeks remaining to finalize their squad for the upcoming campaigns.

In this edition of Chelsea Confidential, we delve into the club’s strategy as they prep for their 2026-27 season opener against Fulham. A key focus is the array of expected departures as the transfer window slams shut on September 1. Brace yourselves—there’s likely to be a considerable shuffle.

The ambition for Chelsea is nothing short of monumental. In an ideal scenario, where every price tag meets its market value, the club aims for a staggering half-a-billion-pound turnover in player sales this week.

Here’s a sneak peek into the financial landscape: Nicolas Jackson comes with a £65 million price tag, Malo Gusto at £75 million, Pedro Neto nearing the £100 million mark, Liam Delap priced at no less than £50 million, alongside Axel Disasi and Marc Guiu, both valued at £25 million. Meanwhile, the heavyweight, Enzo Fernandez, demands a colossal £120 million, an evaluation we’ll explore more thoroughly in our following segments.

Add all that together and Chelsea are knocking on £460m alone before getting to the others who could yet leave permanently or temporarily, such as Tosin Adarabioyo, Mamadou Sarr, Aaron Anselmino, Mykhailo Mudryk, Omari Kellyman, David Datro Fofana, Caleb Wiley, Shim Mheuka, Deivid Washington and Benoit Badiashile, who is set to join Napoli on a £3.4m loan with a £23m option. If they all exited, it would easily take Chelsea over the £500m mark.

Nicolas Jackson is among the stars who could be on the way out, amid interest from Aston Villa

Nicolas Jackson is among the stars who could be on the way out, amid interest from Aston Villa

Except, the market isn’t some magical utopia where asking prices are automatically accepted. Delap’s £50m price is steep for those Premier League clubs who saw his struggles last season. Gusto’s £75m valuation has already scared away some suitors. Neto being valued at close to £100m shows how highly he is appreciated inside Chelsea and could prove problematic for those interested if there is little wiggle room.

Still, the sheer number of names above shows how hectic the end of this window will be for Chelsea. While they have been mocked for having such a large leadership set-up, it is actually helpful that the club have five sporting directors each overseeing their own areas, and a co-owner in Behdad Eghbali who is extremely hands-on unlike others elsewhere, because of the work they tend to get through in these windows.

There are still 42 player profiles listed on Chelsea’s website for their senior squad. Disasi is not even among those shown on there, but it does include the odd academy representative, such as Reggie Walsh, whose loan move to League One Wigan is close to being announced.

Chelsea’s director of finance is called Paul Ramos. He will have been with the club for 25 years as of next month. I can only imagine Ramos and the others in his department will need a stiff drink after sifting through the numbers over this next week or two. I might too.

Will Fernandez stay or go? Has his £120m valuation gone up after Chelsea’s deadline passed?

That’s been the £120m question of the summer. Maybe more than that now, because Chelsea sources speaking confidentially say valuations have indeed increased since they originally set theirs for Fernandez in late May.

It is claimed those terms expired with their deadline at 5pm last Friday. Interestingly, Chelsea insiders have also told me that the money aside, it is now more about strengthening versus weakening the squad for them at this stage. If Fernandez were sold to City now, Chelsea would have limited time to recruit a replacement, and that is a major factor in their thinking.

Because of all that, sources inside Stamford Bridge are saying today that they expect the 25-year-old Argentinian will end up staying. We’ll soon see.

Sources inside Stamford Bridge are saying Chelsea fans can expect Enzo Fernandez to stay put

Sources inside Stamford Bridge are saying Chelsea fans can expect Enzo Fernandez to stay put

Is is true Chelsea have enlisted Jorge Mendes to sort Fernandez’s exit?

Chelsea say there is no truth to claims that they have called in the super agent, Jorge Mendes, to help sell Fernandez. Mendes and his Gestifute agency did not respond to a request for comment when contacted. Mendes helped bring Fernandez to Chelsea from Benfica for £106.8m in 2023.

What happens next with Fernandez?

While Chelsea sources are saying he is expected to stay, I would never say never to a sale while the summer window remains open. It all depends. It depends on City and what they are willing to offer and how soon they make any move. It depends on Chelsea and what they are willing to accept and whether they think there is still time to reinvest.

Fernandez is represented by Javier Pastore, the former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder who appears to have lost a few friends this summer by being outspoken on his client’s future.

The terms and conditions for a £120m sale were verbally communicated by Chelsea to Fernandez’s camp at the end of May following their 1-0 league loss at Sunderland which capped a subpar 2025-26. The club then waited for a bid to arrive in June and July – and nothing happened. They then set their own deadline for offers by Friday August 14 at 5pm – and nothing happened. Now the summer is nearly over.

Chelsea would be strengthening a direct rival by agreeing to sell to City and potentially weakening themselves so late in the window. Speaking anonymously, one member of a midfielder’s camp who Chelsea could have targeted as a replacement for Fernandez told us they now do not think the Argentine will be sold as the time for that has passed.

That seems to be the general feeling from those I’ve consulted. We have to wait and see if City change those minds.

If Fernandez is still a Chelsea player come September, I would not even be surprised if we then hear talk of him agreeing new terms, perhaps with a contract which includes a release clause for next summer. Side note: Chelsea are already looking to announce more than one extension in the coming weeks, with Joao Pedro among those in line for a boost.

Talented forward Joao Pedro is set to sign a contract extension in the coming weeks

Talented forward Joao Pedro is set to sign a contract extension in the coming weeks

Who could Chelsea target if they sell Fernandez?

The time for recruiting a replacement may be running out, but there are contenders should Fernandez be sold.

Chelsea have already bid for Bournemouth’s Alex Scott once this summer. They offered £64m for the 22-year-old midfielder in mid-July. Bournemouth rejected it, and reiterated that he is not for sale and has no set valuation. Chelsea haven’t suddenly stopped liking Scott because of that stance.

Adam Wharton, also 22, has long been linked and there is admiration for him. However, Crystal Palace would not let him leave on the cheap, and Chelsea have already attempted to play down those links this summer.

One new name I have heard is Martin Zubimendi, though recent checks at Arsenal suggested the 27-year-old is expected to stay at the Emirates Stadium. Alonso is a fan of Zubimendi and vice versa. They worked together at Real Sociedad B. They nearly teamed up again at Real Madrid. They share the same agent.

Daily Mail Sport also reported this week how Chelsea showed interest in Morgan Gibbs-White earlier in this window, though Nottingham Forest have insisted publicly and privately that he is not for sale.

Best guess at a Chelsea XI for Fulham? And back three or four?

Here’s my stab involving the players currently available. Chelsea (3-4-2-1): Sanchez; James, Lacroix, Colwill; Neto, Fernandez, Caicedo, Palestra; Palmer, Rogers; Joao Pedro.

As has been the case in Chelsea’s eight pre-season friendlies, I suspect Alonso will switch between a three and a four, depending on what he decides is best, game by game. He should have plenty of time to work on team structure at Cobham.

The calendar shows Chelsea aren’t set to leave London until Everton away in the Premier League on October 17 – unless they beat Luton in the Carabao Cup and draw a club out of the capital for the following round, that is.

Will Chelsea sign another centre back?

Alonso told us he wants ‘four or five’ centre backs while we were in Sydney, Australia. When Chelsea signed Maxence Lacroix, they had 10 in total.

Trevoh Chalobah has already been sold to Como, and Disasi and Badiashile should soon leave also. Tosin has interest from clubs in England and Europe – Benfica, managed by Marco Silva, formerly of Fulham, are among them – and Sarr likewise has options. If all those depart, that would leave five in Lacroix, Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana, Josh Acheampong, and Anselmino, who impressed in pre-season before picking up an unfortunate hamstring injury during a 3-3 draw with Johor Darul Ta’zim.

Are Chelsea in for Emi Martinez? Who is the No 1 goalkeeper?

Chelsea and Aston Villa do have a good relationship, so it’s a natural link to make, but I haven’t heard of any talks for Martinez after his move to Juventus fell through. Privately and publicly, Chelsea and Alonso have reiterated several times this summer that they are more than satisfied with Robert Sanchez and Mike Penders as their one-two.

Alonso indicated to us during the tour that owing to his experience, Sanchez will start as his No 1. My guess is Sanchez will be in goal versus Fulham in the Premier League opener, then perhaps we will see Penders against Luton in the Carabao Cup.

As for Villa, I could still see them making their move for Jackson, though they face competition from others in England and Europe. Jackson is one of those players whose valuation from Chelsea – £65m – is more than fair in my eyes.

Why are Chelsea pricing Neto out of a move?

Chelsea class Neto as an elite winger, and they value him highly enough to say they would want close to £100m to consider a sale this summer. Sources have said several times this summer that the prices of proven wide men have spiked in this window.

Chelsea did not want to place an asking price on Neto when I asked last month, but they did tell me they were tracking the market, and particularly the situations involving Yan Diomande, who joined Real Madrid from RB Leipzig for a fee worth up to £120m, and Bradley Barcola, valued at north of £100m by PSG.

Neto was used at right wing-back in Chelsea’s last friendly win over Real Sociedad, and while the 26-year-old performed well, it may not be his favoured position if Alonso wants to regularly use a 3-4-2-1 set-up. I have not heard that Neto has directly communicated a desire to leave Chelsea. He will still be one to watch in the build-up to September.

What happens with Mudryk?

I wrote a story two weeks ago that as soon as his suspension was lifted, Chelsea received multiple enquiries as to their plans for Mudryk for this season. Surprisingly so. Because nobody knew Mudryk’s level after so long out of the game. Not even Chelsea.

They flew him out to Hong Kong to join their pre-season tour so he could be assessed by Alonso and Co. I also wrote in that story above that three Premier League clubs enquired with Chelsea, and one of those was Coventry, managed by Frank Lampard.

Mykhailo Mudryk has attracted loan interest from at least three Premier League clubs, including Frank Lampard's Coventry

Strasbourg have always been another safe option if Chelsea want to make sure he gets game time. I think we will see him leave on loan. Chelsea should receive a nice loan fee and have a considerable chunk of his wages covered, but more than that, those inside Stamford Bridge want to make sure the 25-year-old Ukrainian has the best support possible after what he went through.

Playing regular football again would help his confidence, and that may be better found away from Chelsea in the coming season.

Prediction for this season?

Internally, Chelsea’s minimum target is to finish in the top four and to see where that takes them from there. Perhaps this is a tad optimistic, but I’ll predict they place second in the Premier League once 2026-27 is over, above Enzo Maresca’s Manchester City and below Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.

Marc Jacobs Expresses Support for Luigi Mangione with Bold Trial Fashion Choice

0

Renowned fashion designer Marc Jacobs expressed his willingness to style Luigi Mangione, the admitted murderer of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, for his upcoming trial. Jacobs commented in a recent interview that Mangione is already doing an impressive job as a “trendsetter” with his self-styled courtroom attire.

During an appearance on Vanity Fair’s Lie Detector Test podcast, Jacobs was reminded by the host that his creations had previously been worn by celebrities such as Winona Ryder, Courtney Love, and Lil’ Kim during court appearances in the early 2000s. The host then presented Jacobs with a photo of Mangione, inquiring if he would consider styling the accused for his trial.

Jacobs, dressed in a sleek black Lacoste shirt, chuckled at the image before responding affirmatively, “Um… yes.”

Jacobs also noted, “I think he looks pretty good the way he dresses, actually,” indicating his approval of Mangione’s current sartorial choices.

Trial fashion can draw a lot of attention, going back to OJ Simpson’s so-called trial of the century in the mid-1990s, which was televised and involved the most famous American ever charged with murder at the time.

Donna Rotunno, a criminal defense attorney and Fox News contributor, said the media’s treatment of Los Angeles Deputy District Attorney Marcia Clark during Simpson’s trial influenced her courtroom style choices when she represented Harvey Weinstein. Still, she said, she was disappointed to see public support for an admitted killer like Mangione.

“I find it sad,” she said in an interview Thursday. “I find that sad that a designer would in any way, shape or form want to support that.”

Mangione has admitted to stalking Thompson, a 50-year-old father of two, from Minnesota to New York City, where he shot him in the back on Dec. 4, 2024.

His fashion choices have made headlines ever since — beginning with the high-end backpack he allegedly ditched in Central Park while fleeing the crime scene. In March 2025, he showed up in the courtroom wearing Rockport loafers and no socks — a detail that a photographer captured in a picture showing shackles around his bare ankles.

Later, prosecutors revealed that someone had slipped Mangione a pair of heart-shaped notes hidden within a pair of socks sent to the court along with other clothes he wore for the hearing. (Only one of the notes was addressed to Mangoine — the other was meant for someone named “Joan.”)

“He’s kind of become a character and this cult hero to some people, and it’s pretty sad to see,” Rotunno said.

A court officer seized the notes but allowed Mangione to wear the socks. However, “he felt that ‘they did not look good’” and took them off, according to prosecutors.

Mangione, however, may end up wearing a jail jumpsuit for the rest of his life after he pleaded guilty to federal charges last week. As a result, his state case may come to an end without trial if his defense team’s double jeopardy claim succeeds in court.

He faces a maximum punishment of life in prison at his sentencing on Dec. 18, but it’s up to Judge Margaret Garnett. Federal sentencing guidelines recommend around 25 to 30 years, and Garnett is not bound by those either.

“So the fact that you would have any designer coming out saying that he would dress him or be happy to dress him, I think is pretty tone deaf,” Rotunno said.

If he does end up having a state trial, it could be the last time he’s seen wearing street clothes, she said. But even so, she urged his defense team to walk a fine line.

“I also think you have to be careful in front of juries,” she said. “You dress up Luigi Mangione too much, and maybe he loses some of the sympathy that people have for him.”

Jacobs was hooked up to a lie detector test during his podcast interview.

The host noted that after Mangione wore a red sweater in court, it sold out at Nordstrom stores. “Does this make him a trendsetter?”

“Yes,” Jacobs agreed.

Then she asked if he was offended that Gwyneth Paltrow didn’t wear any of his designs at her own eight-day trial in 2023, after a retired optometrist unsuccessfully sued her over a ski crash in Park City, Utah.

“No,” he said.

“He’s being truthful,” the polygrapher added.

A spokesperson for Jacobs did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

ITV Star Shares Heartfelt Statement After Personal Tragedy

Rob Rinder, a well-known presenter on Good Morning Britain, has shared the sad news of his father’s passing at the age of 73. The popular TV judge, who is 48 years old, conveyed that his father, David, passed away while surrounded by family. David’s death was the result of a struggle with Lewy body dementia. This condition is a progressive neurological disorder that affects cognition, movement, sleep, and behavior. It is one of the most prevalent forms of progressive dementia, along with Alzheimer’s disease.

Accompanying a touching childhood photograph with David, Rob expressed, “My dad died yesterday aged 73. I wasn’t sure whether to share this but if it brings attention to an illness too few people understand, perhaps it belongs here.” He reflected on their relationship as complicated yet filled with love, emphasizing that despite any differences, he was always certain of his father’s pride in him.

He added, “A London cabbie and lifelong Spurs supporter, he was there for every one of my brothers’ and his grandsons’ football matches.

“I once represented him at the Carriage Office for bad driving; I loved him but the prosecution had a case… My parents divorced when I was little so I did not grow up with him at home.”

“We were very different men. I loved opera and all its drama; he loved Tottenham and cigarettes. We both took people as we found them and we both loved women, though in rather different ways. I never once doubted his pride in me.”

Rob added: “When I came out he responded with magnificent indifference: I was still his son, there was nothing else to discuss. In the last years of his life Jewish Care became his home, a place where dignity and tenderness were practised every day.

“Walid and Tosin, among so many others there, cared for him and came to kiss him goodbye. A Jewish man, held in his final days by people of different faiths: a quiet reminder that what is sacred in us is also what we share.

“He died with his family around him, loved and held to the last. Funny, beautifully flawed, loving and my dad. Lewy body dementia took him far too young.”

The presenter went on: “It made the familiar strange and the certain uncertain. Dementia can obscure a person but it does not erase them.

“At least one in ten people living with dementia has Lewy body’s, around 125,000 people in the UK yet it remains poorly understood, frequently missed & desperately under-researched.

“Please learn its name, learn its signs and if you can support the work to change that.”

Rob and his younger brother Craig were raised by their single mother Angela Cohen following their parents’ divorce. Born into a Jewish family, Rob was awarded an MBE in 2021 alongside his mother, Angela, in recognition of their services to Holocaust education.

How Lanterns Wisely Sidesteps Green Lantern’s Biggest Flaw

0

Spoiler Alert: Key Plot Points of “Lanterns” Season 1, Episode 1 Revealed

Before “Lanterns” even graced screens, it faced a daunting challenge: distinguishing itself from Ryan Reynolds’ much-maligned “Green Lantern” movie of 2011. Known for its over-the-top space operatics and overwhelming use of glowing green visuals, the film set a low bar. This posed the question of how “Lanterns” could harness the thrilling elements of the Green Lantern comics without echoing the previous movie’s excesses.

Thankfully, “Lanterns” strikes a balance. By weaving humor and astute dialogue that acknowledge the comic book’s inherent quirks, it manages to sidestep past mistakes. Audiences are treated to intriguing ring tricks like backup personality copies while grandiose displays of power are infrequent. This measured approach is bolstered by Guy Gardner’s prior demonstrations in “Superman,” which illustrated the DCU power ring’s capabilities. Instead, “Lanterns” occasionally showcases casual uses of the ring, turning it into tools like fake currency or everyday conveniences, with Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) adding levity through his unceremonial flights.

The series thrives on its detective drama essence, aligning perfectly with Hal Jordan’s low-key superhero style. His reluctance to don the Green Lantern suit unless absolutely necessary contributes to the narrative’s tension. When Hal finally employs the power ring in a significant way—thwarting an alien’s self-destruction—it marks a milestone within the storyline, both visually and narratively impactful.

Lanterns and Green Lantern couldn’t be more different if they tried

Even had “Lanterns” chosen a heavy reliance on special effects, the risk of drawing links to the 2011 film would have been minimal. While “Green Lantern” was a brightly colored, sci-fi spectacle, “Lanterns” adopts a more restrained, atmospheric approach reminiscent of a “True Detective”-style buddy cop drama. The series thrives on its gritty aesthetics and the intricate, mysterious storytelling flair of Damon Lindelof.

Still, in its efforts to establish its own identity, “Lanterns” has clearly put an impressive amount of work into its understated aesthetics. Perhaps the best comparison point is the brief glimpses the series premiere offers of Hal’s Green Lantern outfit: it’s a far cry from Ryan Reynolds’ Green Lantern costume (which probably shouldn’t have been greenlit in any sense of the term). Of course, the “Lanterns” trailer had everyone saying the same thing about the show’s Green Lantern suit — namely, that its color scheme isn’t bright enough. You can never please everyone, right?
