GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Jaimickel Donnel Florence, 29, was arrested early this morning after he allegedly masturbated while watching a woman through the window of her apartment near the University of Florida campus. Florence was already on probation and had been listed as a fugitive since early August, when a probation officer discovered that he had left his registered address and stopped responding to phone calls.
A Gainesville Police Department officer went to the 200 block of NW 15th Street after the woman reported that her security camera recorded a man staring through her window and masturbating at approximately 9:45 p.m. on October 2. According to the officer, the suspect was wearing distinctive shoes.
Police distributed the suspect’s description to patrol officers. On October 7, an officer spotted Florence in the 600 block of West University Avenue wearing shoes matching those described and arrested him. The arrest report states that Florence appears to be the man captured in the video.
A court document describes Florence as homeless. He was released from state prison on June 1 after serving a 2.5-year sentence in Alachua County for felony battery. On July 22, he received a citation in Alachua for driving with a suspended license, but he did not appear for a hearing in that case on August 26.
Florence also missed three batterer’s intervention treatment sessions in July and failed to complete an initial mental health assessment required within 60 days of his release from prison.

After contacting the mental health treatment office and learning that Florence had not attended the required sessions, his probation officer visited his last known address. The property owner reportedly said Florence had moved out because he was “aggravated.” Florence later texted her that he had relocated to Roanoke, Virginia, for a job. The probation officer said the message was sent July 30 from Florence’s last known phone number. He repeatedly called that number and confirmed with Florence’s former employer that Florence no longer worked there.
A warrant was issued August 12 for an alleged probation violation, and Florence was listed as a fugitive on the Department of Corrections’ website.
Florence faces charges of first-offense voyeurism, failing to appear at a criminal traffic hearing and violating probation. His record includes two felony convictions, both violent, and two nonviolent misdemeanor convictions. He has served one state prison sentence, was released June 1 and remains on probation in that case. Judge Joy Danne set bail at $15,000 on the voyeurism charge and $2,500 on the traffic charge, while ordering Florence held without bail until the probation violation is resolved.
Cook County Sheriff’s Office Helps Trafficking Survivors Break Free
COOK COUNTY, Ill. (WLS) — Sex trafficking is driven by coercion and control, drawing people into a system that exploits and strips away their autonomy.
“There’s definitely gratification in the work, because our unit is comprised of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking survivors. So, we have a team of people on our unit that have been through and have had lived experience with a lot of the people that we serve,” said Cyndi Kenzinger, executive director of Victim Support Services at the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.
Kenzinger told the I-Team that her unit helps sex trafficking survivors navigate the difficult transition to a new life, regardless of whether their case ultimately goes to trial.
“Even if there isn’t a case, we’re still going to work with the person in crisis,” said Kenzinger. “They wanted the therapy. They wanted to have social service agencies work with them. They wanted to be in a workforce program. They wanted to get a job. They didn’t have transportation to get there.”
Through community partnerships, the Sheriff’s Victim Support Services offers Cook County survivors free transportation and groceries, along with connections to essential mental health and housing resources.

Across Illinois, the need for those services is even greater.
The National Human Trafficking Hotline recorded at least 279 Illinois cases involving sex trafficking alone or alongside forced labor last year, with hundreds of survivors affected.
In Chicago, the Chicago Police Department has reported 20 sex trafficking incidents this year, the highest total for any year since at least 2008. However, the actual number of people trafficked is likely higher.

Arizona Man Arrested After Allegedly Emailing White House Bomb Threat to Tucson News Station
Federal officials said an Arizona man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly emailing a threat to bomb the White House and other sites in Washington, D.C.
Jacob Aaron Hicks, 46, of Tucson, faces a federal charge of making an interstate threat to injure, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona.
A criminal complaint alleges that Hicks emailed a Tucson television station on Sept. 23, warning of an “imminent bomb strike against the White House and other locations in Washington, D.C.”
The station reported the message to law enforcement, launching an investigation into the alleged threat.

Investigators later identified Hicks as the person allegedly responsible for sending the email, authorities said.
“We must take threats of violence like this one seriously,” U.S. Attorney Timothy Courchaine said in a statement.
“I am grateful to our local news station for referring this threat to law enforcement and to the FBI for addressing the situation quickly, professionally and with the level of commitment it required.”
Federal officials said investigators found additional email drafts in an account connected to Hicks.

The drafts were also dated Sept. 23 and had been addressed to other news organizations. Officials said they included similar threats against the White House and other locations in the nation’s capital.
The FBI is directing the investigation with support from the U.S. Secret Service.
Rebecca Day, the FBI’s special agent in charge in Phoenix, praised the television station for notifying authorities.
“We appreciate the community partner who reported the threat to law enforcement. Cooperation and partnership are essential to protecting the American people,” Day said.

Democratic Senate hopeful Abdul El–Sayed and Republican Mike Rogers traded fierce personal attacks Thursday night as they faced off in a heated campaign to replace outgoing Michigan Senator Gary Peters.
Rogers branded El-Sayed a “glitchy AI chatbot” and accused him of being “bought off by Hamas.” El-Sayed, meanwhile, called Rogers inauthentic and portrayed him as little more than a rubber stamp for President Trump.
Rogers also challenged El-Sayed’s medical credentials, declaring that his opponent was “selling the best con I’ve ever seen” and insisting, “he’s not really a doctor.”
El-Sayed countered by pointing to his medical degree from Columbia University. He told Rogers that any concerns about his credentials could be taken directly to the state licensing board.
El-Sayed then turned his criticism toward Rogers, accusing him of wanting to be “a sock puppet for the administration on Iran” and describing him as “weak” and “cowardly.”
“Whenever Donald Trump says, jump. He says, ‘How high,’” El-Sayed added with a dry laugh.
The candidates clashed over the war in Iran, tariffs, immigration, healthcare and other issues. They repeatedly spoke over the moderator, who eventually remarked that he would “like to be a part of the debate too.”
The bitter exchange underscored the intensifying nature of a Senate race in which both campaigns have increasingly relied on sharp personal attacks.

Although backed by Trump in his second campaign for the US Senate, former Congressman Rogers recently broke with the president over his administration’s trade war with Canada.
Rogers also raised questions about El-Sayed’s mother’s work history, prompting an immediate response from the Democrat: “Are you going after my mom?”
“I’m not going after your mom… I was going after that organization that was indicted for funneling money to Al Qaeda,” Rogers replied. “Look, that’s your mom. My mom worked at the Brighton Chamber of Commerce.”
Rogers was referring to the Islamic American Relief Agency, a Missouri charity where El-Sayed’s biological mother, Fatten Elkomy, worked with orphans from 1999 to 2004.
The charity pleaded guilty in 2016 to sanctions violations, conspiracy to commit money laundering and tax obstruction after illegally transferring nearly $1.4 million to Iraq—not to financing al-Qaeda. El-Sayed’s mother was never charged.
Rogers also focused on changes within El-Sayed’s campaign. “He had a top staffer flee his campaign, talking about how this guy’s a manufactured candidate,” he said. “What he’s basically telling you is he will say anything to win.”
Rogers has sought to define El-Sayed as “too extreme,” while El-Sayed has repeatedly criticized Rogers for closely following Trump’s political agenda.
Rogers also drew criticism from El-Sayed after skipping a September candidate forum. “If I were him, I wouldn’t debate me either,” the Democrat quipped.
The contest remains essentially deadlocked, with recent polls showing the candidates separated by just one percentage point. The Cook Political Report rates the race a toss-up, although prediction markets currently give El-Sayed an advantage.
If elected, El–Sayed would become the first Muslim to serve in the US Senate.
In a controversial late–Wednesday social media post, President Trump targeted El–Sayed directly, referring to the Democratic nominee as ‘Mohammed’ and alleging he ‘goes back to the days of the Jihad’.
‘He is a Radical Extremist, Terrorist Sympathizer,’ Trump wrote on Truth Social.
El–Sayed, who was born to Egyptian parents, called Trump’s post an ‘attack on all of us.’
‘He thinks he can use my name and my faith to distract us from the suffering his policies are inflicting on us,’ he responded.
Both national party heavyweights are leaning heavily into the Rust Belt battleground.
Former Vice President Kamala Harris recently hit the campaign trail in Michigan to support El–Sayed, following up on her endorsement from a month prior.
Looking ahead, former President Barack Obama is slated to headline a campaign rally on Oct. 24, the first day of Michigan’s in–person early voting, to back both El–Sayed and Democratic candidate for governor, Jocelyn Benson.
However, new reports have cast a shadow over the upcoming star powered visit.

Resurfaced footage, panels and articles unsurfaced by CNN revealed past remarks where El–Sayed harshly criticized Obama, claiming the nation was ‘not better off’ after eight years of his administration and charging that ‘the list of his failures goes on.’
In a series of blistering critiques, El–Sayed took aim at Obama’s claim to political fame, dismissing the Affordable Care Act as a ‘watered–down reform that kowtows to the interests of healthcare lobbies.’
He leveled insults against the former president’s entire presidential record, taking issue with military drone strikes, growing economic inequality, eroding civil right and the widening reach of counterterrorism operations in Yemen and Pakistan.
In Great Falls Virginia, Obama was asked about his comments during a fireside chat with Sen. Lisa Blunt Rochester, saying, ‘I’m going to go to Michigan to campaign for Abdul El–Sayed. While El–Sayed grapples with party fractures on his left, Rogers faces his own balancing act on the right as he seeks distance from key White House policies.
Though backed by Trump in his second bid for the US Senate, former Congressman Rogers recently broke ranks with the president over his administration’s trade war with Canada.
Rogers addressed his change in tone on tariffs during the debate tonight, saying he spoke to the Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick this week.
‘I have actually called the White House this week, talked to the Secretary of Commerce about getting the deal done. Canada still has some high tariffs for US goods, and they did it before this started. Those should be eliminated. There are tariffs that I think are too high and not helpful for us,’ Rogers responded.
During the debate, El-Sayed accused Rogers of profiting off public service: ‘What he has been serious about is making sure that he can monetize his time in public office – 14 million dollars, two yachts, a McMansion in Florida.’
In a heated race with tight margins, Rogers faces a historic uphill climb, as Michigan has not elected a Republican senator in 32 years.
On Friday, Rogers will campaign in Oakland County accompanied by Senator John Kennedy.
Moment ‘Killer Stepfather’ Arrives at Student’s Halls of Residence
This is the moment 19-year-old university student Carla Georgescu’s “sexually obsessed” stepfather allegedly arrived at her campus accommodation with his head concealed beneath a blanket before strangling her, a court has heard.
Nathan Owens, 34, is accused of driving through the night before murdering Carla at Ribble Hall, a block of student flats at the University of Lancashire in Preston.
Prosecutors allege he may have been driven by “sexual jealousy” after learning that the second-year clinical psychology student was preparing to meet a man with whom she had developed a romantic relationship online.
Jurors at Owens’ murder trial were told that his “escalating fascination” with Carla included having sex with a life-sized “effigy” of his teenage stepdaughter, which he had dressed in her nightdress.
Preston Crown Court was shown footage of Owens parking his Ford Puma close to Carla’s accommodation at about 4am on February 4, after driving from the family home in Hartlepool without telling his sleeping wife, Carla’s mother.
Alone, Owens is then seen walking towards the building’s foyer with a patterned blanket covering his head.
About an hour and a half later, he was filmed leaving while “shielding” himself with an umbrella and wearing a face mask. He was also wearing Carla’s trainers and carrying two bags, the court heard.
Owens then drove back to Hartlepool. On Wednesday, his wife Janina told jurors that he did not mention visiting Carla during the night.

Janina became concerned when Carla failed to respond to her messages and calls. The following day, which would have been Carla’s 20th birthday, she contacted university security.
Staff carried out a welfare check and found Carla’s body slumped against a wardrobe door with a belt around her neck. They initially believed she had taken her own life.
Owens only told Ms Georgescu about his late-night journey to Preston after police informed the couple of the discovery, the court heard.
He claimed Carla had asked him to bring incontinence pants and help tidy her room.
However, prosecutors allege the explanation was an attempt to “cover his tracks” and “keep his wife onside”.
Ms Georgescu had last seen her Romania-born daughter three days earlier, during an early birthday celebration at a Korean restaurant in Preston.
She had travelled by train from Hartlepool for the meal on February 1, ahead of Carla’s planned birthday trip to Romania to meet her online boyfriend in person for the first time.

Owens later joined them, arriving by car.

Further footage shown to the jury today shows Owens and Carla both staring at their phones after being left alone at the table during dinner.
Owens later drove home to Hartlepool with Ms Georgescu.
But the prosecution allege he returned to Carla’s flat in the early hours of February 4, without telling his wife, after giving the teenager a story about having to collect her mother’s purse.
He allegedly then brutally attacked Carla before fleeing the scene, dumping evidence and attempting to cover his tracks.
Owens, whose DNA was found at the scene, was arrested the day after her body was found.
Also today the jury heard how Carla had battled depression after arriving in the UK when she was 12.
She had also endured pain for some years due to suffering from endometriosis, abnormal tissue growth around the womb.
In the month before she died, she had accessed NHS mental health services and answered ‘yes’ when asked in an online triage questionnaire if she was thinking about ending her life.
But when contacted by a doctor and asked if she was suicidal, she said she was ‘OK now’ and was advised to consult her GP so she could be treated for her depression.
The prosecution allege that Owens had become ‘sexually fixated’ with Carla and her death was the culmination of weeks, months and perhaps years of a ‘one-sided sexual obsession’.
He is said to have taken photos of Carla without her knowledge, filmed himself having sex with her dolls and toys, one of which was a life-sized ‘effigy’ that he had clothed in her nightdress, and manipulated an innocent image of her so it appeared sexual.
Owens also allegedly made videos of him using sex toys and accessed further images of Carla ‘deriving sexual satisfaction’ from them.
He denies charges of murder, intentional strangulation, and grievous bodily harm with intent.
The trial continues.

Zohran Mamdani Speaks Out After ICE Agents Shoot Man in New York City
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said Thursday night that he would seek to remove Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents from the city after federal officers shot a man inside a vehicle carrying a five-year-old child.
The shooting took place shortly after 4 p.m. in the Marble Hill neighborhood of the Bronx.
Video obtained by the New York Daily News showed police removing the wounded man from a silver SUV before placing him in a black vehicle that quickly left the scene.
The unidentified man was taken to a hospital and was conscious while receiving treatment, according to police. His injuries were not considered life-threatening, law enforcement sources told the New York Post.
A five-year-old child was reportedly inside the SUV when the shots were fired. The child was not hurt.
Mamdani described the episode as “unconscionable and incredibly serious” in a social media post, where he also outlined plans to push federal immigration agents out of New York City.
“I have called the President; when we speak, I will demand that he ends all ICE enforcement actions in our city,” the mayor wrote.
“I will not stand by while ICE agents terrorize our communities,” Mamdani added. “Our thoughts are with the injured New Yorker and his family tonight. We are praying for his recovery.”
“Get ICE out of our neighborhoods. Get ICE out of our hospitals. Get ICE off our streets. Get ICE away from our children,” Mamdani said. He ended his statement with: “Abolish ICE.”

In a Thursday night statement, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani called the shooting “an unconscionable and incredibly serious situation” and urged ICE to halt its operations in the city.
Several elected officials called for an independent investigation during a Thursday night news conference, saying key details about the events leading to the shooting remained unclear.
Law enforcement sources familiar with the case told NBC New York that an ICE team had been searching the neighborhood for a man with a criminal history. A senior official said the person sought had previously been arrested for robbery, had a grand larceny conviction and faced an open drug case.
According to PIX 11, the man who was shot was not the person ICE agents had been trying to locate.
Scene video showed police officers pulling a man from the silver SUV and placing him in handcuffs as armed federal agents surrounded the vehicle.
The footage also showed a man wearing a construction vest and a badge around his neck moving through the area with a semi-automatic rifle, apparently working to keep bystanders away.
Images taken after the shooting showed a large police response, with officers appearing to close off portions of the roadway.
The New York City Police Department said on social media that federal agents were involved in a Bronx shooting.

Witnesses described how the neighborhood descended into chaos after they heard gunshots.
‘I only heard four shots, but I thought it was a car backfiring,’ one woman told ABC 7.
‘I thought “No, that’s definitely gunshots,” so I ran to my window and all of a sudden I heard cops running, not walking down the streets, followed shortly thereafter by more cops and then more cops and ICE agents. Everybody was running,’ she recounted.
‘I think it’s horrifying.’
Another witness told the Post how he was shopping when someone alerted them to the shooting.
‘And then I came out and there was someone on the ground in handcuffs,’ he said. ‘There was a guy holding a gun up, looking around in case someone wanted to interfere. He was ICE.’
Homeland Security and the FBI are responding to the scene in addition to the NYPD.

But some outraged residents have since flocked to the corner following the shooting, chanting ‘Murderers!’ ‘F**k ICE’ and ‘ICE out of the Bronx,’ the Daily News reports.
In one heated exchange, more than a dozen people were said to have grabbed and pinned a masked ICE agent against a wall when he got too close to the police tape lining the street.
‘Take the mask off!’ the residents screamed, according to the Daily News.
The agent was then saved by NYPD officers, who swooped in and pulled him back behind the police tape.
Protesters were also seen apparently blocking Homeland Security agents from responding to the scene.

The shooting comes just days after a coalition of West Bronx and Upper Manhattan officials sent a letter urging the owners of the Shops at Marble Hill to prohibit federal immigration agents from using the plaza’s Target parking lot as a staging area for enforcement activity.
‘This is private property operated by or for Target, where our neighbors shop, work and bring their families,’ the lawmakers said in their letter on Monday, according to the Bronx Times.
‘In a borough home to hundreds of thousands of immigrants, our residents should not have to fear that their neighborhood shops are being used as a staging ground for immigration enforcement.’
The Target is located just across the street from where the shooting is said to have occurred.

In a statement Thursday night, New York Governor Kathy Hochul also said she was briefed about the shooting.
‘We expect federal authorities to provide a full and transparent accounting of the circumstances surrounding this incident,’ she posted on social media.
‘New Yorkers deserve to know exactly what happened and why.’
Congressman Adriano Espaillat also shared online that he was at the scene and speaking with police officers.
‘I am demanding all body camera footage and evidence to be preserved, a full investigation with full cooperation from the federal government and accountability,’ he said, arguing: ‘ICE is a rogue agency that must be reigned in.’
At a press conference on Thursday night, the congressman also shared that he had spoken with the family of the victim and they are left ‘shaken.’
But when he went to visit the victim in the hospital, Espaillat said he was not allowed in the room.
Meanwhile, the New York City Council Progressive Caucus said it was ‘outraged by the horrific news that ICE agents have shot our neighbor, a fellow New Yorker in the Bronx.’
‘This is a terrifying, violent reminder of the immediate danger that the Trump regime poses to our city and our immigrant community,’ the caucus continued.
‘We must abolish ICE and hold those fascists accountable for the terror they are inflicting. We need ICE out of our city now.’
Murad Awawdeh, president and CEO of New York Immigration Coalition, added that: ‘ICE’s violent tactics are a clear danger to all New Yorkers, as today’s shooting in a residential neighborhood demonstrates.
‘This incident is another reminder of the unchecked, rampant violence ICE has been spreading throughout our communities,’ he argued.
The Daily Mail has reached out to the Department of Homeland Security, which oversees ICE, for comment.

California State Workers Prepare for Historic Strike: What to Know
California’s largest state employees’ union is moving ahead with a strike threat, sharply escalating its long-running dispute with Gov. Gavin Newsom’s administration over wages, benefits and remote-work policies. The walkout could disrupt some government services.
SEIU Local 1000, which represents roughly 100,000 state workers, said Thursday that 96.2% of members who voted support a one-day strike on October 21. The planned walkout would take place before Newsom leaves office in January and could delay basic services Californians depend on.
“State workers have spoken loud and clear,” union President Anica Walls said in a video message. SEIU Local 1000 said the strike is being organized in response to what it described as the state’s “bad-faith bargaining.”
In California’s capital, striking workers will hold demonstrations outside the California Department of Human Resources, the Secretary of State building, the Department of Education’s May Lee Complex, the Department of Motor Vehicles headquarters and the Resources Building, Walls said.
The union’s website lists additional strike lines outside government buildings in Oakland, Fresno, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Norwalk and San Bernardino.
Residents could face delays at DMV facilities as well as state unemployment and disability insurance offices, Walls said.
The contract dispute could affect any service delivered by state employees, including operations involving Caltrans and the State Department of Food and Agriculture, according to the Porterville Recorder.

SEIU Local 1000 last held a strike vote in 2016, but the sides reached a labor agreement just days before workers were scheduled to walk off the job.
“It is an important step that state employees are taking,” Walls told CalMatters. “They’re exercising their right to hold the line and say, we deserve to be respected, paid and protected for the work that we do.”
The conflict centers on the union’s accusations that the Newsom administration has negotiated in bad faith. The two sides remain divided over pay and working conditions, including Newsom’s refusal to reverse a return-to-office order that triggered an angry response from state employee unions.
The union’s previous contract expired on June 30, and a replacement agreement has not yet been reached.
A spokesperson for the California Department of Human Resources told The Post that “CalHR remains ready to sit down anytime with the union to negotiate a fair and responsible agreement.”
“The state remains focused on protecting the critical and essential services that Californians rely on,” the department added.
The Post left a voicemail with SEIU Local 1000 seeking additional information about the potential impact of the strike.

NYPD: ICE Agents Involved in Bronx Shooting That Injured One
A person was wounded Thursday afternoon in a shooting connected to an encounter involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in the Bronx, according to information shared with News Media.
The incident unfolded at about 4 p.m. in the Marble Hill section of the Bronx, the New York Police Department (NYPD) reported on X.
NYPD officials said the wounded person was transported to a nearby hospital and remained conscious while receiving treatment.
Authorities had not immediately released the person’s name or provided details about the severity of the injuries.

The NYPD said none of its officers were involved in the shooting, and police were not at the location when the gunfire occurred.
An NYPD spokesperson said the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is leading the investigation. The spokesperson referred further questions to federal officials.
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said she was briefed on the shooting Thursday and urged federal authorities to publicly explain the events surrounding it.

“We expect federal authorities to provide a full and transparent accounting of the circumstances surrounding this incident,” Hochul wrote on X. “New Yorkers deserve to know exactly what happened and why.”
ICE and DHS representatives did not immediately reply to News Media’s requests for comment.
Investigators have not said what led to the shooting, identified the person who fired the weapon or confirmed whether the injured person was the target of a federal law enforcement operation.
