Trump Intensifies Push for Controversial US-Canada ‘Air Filter Barrier’ Construction

0

President Donald Trump has intensified his controversial plan to construct an air filter barrier along the border separating the United States and Canada.

On Saturday evening, Trump took to his Truth Social platform, revealing an AI-generated image that illustrated his ambitious ‘North America Air Filter Barrier’ concept.

The visualization portrayed a massive furnace filter stretching along the border between the US and Canada, highlighting the bold initiative.

Accompanying the image was a sign with the slogan: ‘Clean Air. Clear borders,’ reflecting the intent behind the proposed structure.

Amid this backdrop, the president announced on Monday a punitive 50 percent tariff on Canadian imports, in response to the wildfire smoke that has enveloped and suffocated several American cities recently.

The White House said in a fact sheet that the tariffs would go into effect in 30 days and cover ‘products ranging from wine to hockey sticks to cement.’

A Trump administration official said the US president had also requested that his aides look into additional tariffs on Canada after accusing the country of ‘coming in and poisoning our air.’

It came after Trump declared that Canada has unfairly discriminated against American autos, alcohol and dairy products.

Trump vowed to hold ‘Canada responsible for the fact that they are not properly maintaining their forests and brush’ after wildfires in Ontario caused massive plumes of smoke to blanket cities across the US

Trump last week said the US was being ‘invaded by filthy, polluted, and unhealthy air, the quality of which is dangerous, and totally unacceptable.’

He also vowed to hold ‘Canada responsible for the fact that they are not properly maintaining their forests and brush.’

Trump then pulled the surprise tariffs on Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney after he met the liberal leader the day before at the World Cup final, where the two appeared chummy.

Carney warned that the tariffs have hurt people on both sides of the border and that he was ready to work to strengthen his country and support Canadian workers.

More than 70 percent of Canada’s exports go to the US, making America its largest trade partner.

Carney said Canada is intensifying negotiations with the US to reach a comprehensive trade deal but is prepared to respond should Trump’s threat of 50 percent tariffs on Canadian goods go into effect.

‘If these tariffs, or other measures come into force, there’s a full range of things that we can do in that regard,’ Carney said after meeting with Canada’s premiers and territorial leaders in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island on Thursday.

Carney said ‘everything’s on the table’ if an agreement can’t be reached before the tariffs kick in.

‘We don’t need to respond in advance,’ he said. ‘In fact, I think it would be counterproductive at this stage to respond in advance.’

The new tariffs cover a wide range of goods, including honey, liquor, cement, dairy products, some wood products, hockey sticks and other items.

They exclude energy products, potash, fish and critical minerals, but would include goods previously protected from import taxes by the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, or USMCA.

That 2020 trade pact was not renewed by the US, triggering a new set of negotiations that could run until 2036.

Carney said the tariff threat could be a negotiation tactic by the US.

‘We’ve seen a series of trade negotiations that the US has undertaken, and normally there’s a deadline,’ he said. ‘Normally there’s an outsized tariff associated with that deadline.’

Carney believes there is a willingness among American officials to reach a trade deal.

Trump and Carney spoke about the wildfires in Ontario that caused massive plumes of smoke to blanket cities across the US during their meeting at the World Cup final last Sunday.

The President said the conversation went well, ‘But I told him, “You’ve got to stop these fires from coming in and poisoning our air.” Our air’s being poisoned.

‘I have a good relationship with Mark Carney, but you know, we got to stop the fires up there,’ Trump said.

‘If we can help them, we’ll help them – but maybe they should pay us some damages or something, or [we] should do some tariffs,’ he then threatened.

Trump went on to call the smoke ‘terrible,’ specifically pointing out the situation in Detroit, Michigan, where assembly line workers at Ford Motor’s Michigan Assembly Plant were sent by ambulance to nearby hospitals on Thursday, according to the Detroit Free Press.

But the poor air quality was felt in other parts of the country as well, with smoky conditions being felt in Washington, DC and New York City.

Trump has further threatened to impose tariffs over a major outbreak of an ‘explosive diarrhea’ parasite potentially linked to lettuce from Mexico.

In a press briefing at the White House Friday, the President said: ‘I think what we are going to do is put a major tariff on Mexico because of the lettuce.’

Trump weighed in as cases of cyclosporiasis soared to 11,000 across 41 states, leaving public health officials scrambling to find the cause.

Health officials have suggested that cases of the parasite, a disease transmitted by food or water contaminated with human feces, may be linked to shredded iceberg lettuce from Taylor Farms that was sent to Taco Bell restaurants in nine states.

Illinois, Kansas, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania are also now suggested to be affected, alongside Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia.

Tests on lettuce from Taylor Farms’ manufacturing facility in Mexico have returned a false positive, however, a voluntary recall of the products is still in place.

The business temporarily closed its Central Mexico site on Thursday.

The Trump Administration on Friday also announced a new wave of blistering tariffs targeting 60 trading partners

The levies, which range from 10 percent to 12.5 percent and impact major economies like China, India and the European Union, sparked protests from Beijing and other targets.

The Trump administration has moved swiftly to rebuild the president’s tariff wall after the Supreme Court struck down a host of his duties in February – dealing a blow to his ability to unleash steep levies at will.

After the setback, Trump tapped different authorities to reimpose a 10 percent tariff on imports. But this only lasted 150 days and expired on Friday.

The volley of new duties, initially proposed in June, now takes its place and will impact 60 US trade partners, which constitutes 99.4 percent of American trade in total.

Van Plows into Crowd at Pride Festival: 1 Dead, Several Injured

In a shocking turn of events, German authorities cancelled a widely celebrated pride festival in Berlin on Saturday. The decision came after a tragic incident where a white van plowed into the crowd, leaving multiple people injured and resulting in one fatality.

“We are currently deployed with numerous police forces as well as rescue units from the Berlin Fire Department in the Großer Tiergarten,” stated the Berlin Police via a translated X post. Attendees were urged to evacuate the area immediately.

Rescue personnel are on-site, providing medical assistance to those who sustained injuries during the incident.

This staggering event unfolded amidst the annual Christopher Street Day festival, a prominent LGBTQ+ pride celebration in the city.

Federal Court Defeats Trump’s Mail-In Voting Challenge: A Setback in Election Battle

0

In a significant legal setback for the Trump administration, a federal appeals court ruled on Saturday to uphold an injunction against implementing more stringent mail-in voting measures ahead of the looming midterm elections. With the political landscape tense and control of both the House and Senate at stake, this decision is particularly impactful.

The 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals held firm in its decision not to overturn a previous lower court ruling from June, which had declared certain components of President Trump’s directive unconstitutional. This legal challenge was spearheaded by several Democrat-led states, including California, Massachusetts, and Washington, who successfully argued against the administration’s stance.

In a close 2-1 decision, the appeals court denied the Trump administration’s appeal, reinforcing the earlier verdict.

President Trump’s contested order tasked the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) with compiling a list of verified U.S. citizens eligible to vote in each state, utilizing sensitive information gleaned from federal databases. Furthermore, the directive instructed the Department of Justice (DOJ) to scrutinize officials mailing ballots to individuals deemed “not eligible” to vote.

In her ruling, Judge Talwani underscored that President Trump lacked the authority to mandate the DHS to assemble such data, and similarly, the USPS could not enforce these mail-in voting directives. She emphasized that Trump did not possess the legal power to coerce local election officials into relying on these inevitably incomplete citizenship lists under the threat of criminal prosecution.

Trump has remained critical of mail-in ballots and in his July primetime address on election integrity said there were “shocking vulnerabilities in our election infrastructure. This evidence shows that the election system we have dangerously exposes, and really exposes like levels never thought possible, the hacking, exploitation, and foreign interference.”

He also mentioned in the same speech that how long it took California to count mail-in ballots was “one example of insanity” caused by mail-in voting.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has said that absent any ruling in its favor the administration may ask the U.S. Supreme Court to intervene.

Oklahoma Influencer and Husband Dead in Shocking Tragedy

0

In a tragic sequence of events that unfolded in Owasso, Oklahoma, an influencer was shot dead by her own husband, who subsequently took his own life. This shocking murder-suicide occurred just two weeks after she publicly accused him of being a pedophile on the popular social media platform TikTok.

The influencer, 43-year-old Sara Gilson, had recently shared a video following a trend on TikTok known as the “Netflix Documentary.” This trend features users creating mock segments as if filming a real documentary, ranging from humorous tales to personal, often painful stories. In her video, Gilson addressed the serious allegations against her estranged husband, 48-year-old Shawn Duffey, accusing him of pedophilia.

“Preparing for when Netflix drops a documentary about my soon-to-be ex-husband, who I just found out is a pedophile,” Gilson stated in her TikTok post, casting a spotlight on her troubled relationship with Duffey.

The video carried a caption that left little doubt about the severity of her claims: “I wish I was joking #plottwist #netflix #documentary.”

In a devastating development less than two weeks after the video’s upload, both Gilson and Duffey were discovered deceased in her Owasso residence on Thursday, July 23. This harrowing incident underscores the unpredictability and potential consequences of public disclosures in the digital age.

A child who lived in the home made the 911 call and authorities arrived at the scene around 11:15 p.m., according to KTUL. They were identified as the victims by a family member.

Last month, Gilson was in court to explain why she wanted to extend an emergency protection order against Duffey, who was required to stay 100 yards away from his wife, forcing him out of the home, according to People.

Gilson alleged in her application for the protective order that Duffey had threatened suicide “and went on the run,” according to The Oklahoman.

The same day, another protective order was issued against Duffey by on behalf of a 15-year-old girl who was a member of the youth basketball team he coached.

Duffey allegedly sent the minor inappropriate messages, kissed her and touched her inappropriately, and invited her to his hotel room during a tournament, offering money “to keep her quiet.”

The Owasso Police Department did not immediately respond to the Post’s request for comment.

Manhattan ICE Building Torched: Suspect Detained in Arson Investigation

0

An upheaval unfolded in New York City as police detained a man for igniting what authorities described as an “incendiary device” in front of a federal building earlier today.

Chaos erupted as three individuals sustained injuries when an unknown assailant detonated an explosive outside the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) field office in lower Manhattan.

“At approximately nine this morning, a man appeared with an incendiary device along with some unknown liquid. He poured this liquid, then strategically placed fireworks on top, which sparked a small blaze,” explained James Barnacle Jr., Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI’s New York field office, during a press briefing.

“Our joint terrorism task force is handling this incident as an anti-government assault targeting a federal facility,” Barnacle added.

Authorities have identified the suspect as 43-year-old Andrew Arrabaca, an Army veteran, according to the FBI official.

‘He ignited gasoline, he poured gasoline onto the ground and ignited it with a lighter and an incendiary device. That device was a firework, a large firework in a canister that proceeded to catch on fire. Pretty big flame, as you’ve seen on the internet,’ he said.

‘He then pulled out an airsoft rifle and fired five to seven pellets, if you will, in the direction of 26 Federal Plaza.’

Barnacle added that Arrabaca served in the US Army from 2001 to 2005, and was a repairman and mechanic on patriot missile systems.

‘Mr. Arrabaca was looking to injure people and harm people. He had two axes, a hammer, a machete and three knives. Fixed blade knives. He had, as I said earlier, six incendiary devices or fireworks, and he had some other destructive items going,’ Barnacle said.

Footage obtained by WABC showed the suspect pouring the flammable liquid outside the building then igniting blaze.

As the blaze roared, plumes of black smoke billowed into the air in front of the building.

‘This morning an individual deployed an incendiary device outside of 26 Federal Plaza in New York,’ FBI Director Kash Patel wrote on X.

‘The individual is in custody and two minor injuries reported thus far. FBI JTTF [Joint Terrorism Task Forces] is investigating the incident.’

Federal law enforcement, including ICE officers and FBI agents, were pictured responding to the scene.

The suspect is believed to be a protester with a history of anti-ICE activity, according to the local news station.

Officers are ‘looking at the cart the suspect wheeled with him,’ which contained fireworks and airsoft rifles, according to police.

The ‘makeshift incendiary device’ was made up of fireworks and a flammable liquid, authorities said.

Photos from the scene showed the suspect’s cart had a sign reading ‘ICE Off Our Streets.’

Mayor Zohran Mamdani condemned the incident in a post on X.

‘What occurred outside 26 Federal Plaza this morning was deeply disturbing. I’m relieved no one was seriously injured and that a suspect is in custody. My team is in touch with the NYPD and we will support the federal investigation,’ he wrote.

‘Our administration will continue to ensure that every New Yorker is safe in their city – and hold accountable any who threaten that.’

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries praised law enforcement for their response to the attack.

‘I am grateful to law enforcement for their swift actions to stop an attack at 26 Federal Plaza this morning, for successfully apprehending the suspect and for keeping the people of New York City safe,’ Jeffries said in a statement.

‘Acts of terror and violence have no place in our City and will never be tolerated. The individual responsible for this must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.’

The Daily Mail contacted the NYPD, the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security and ICE for more information.

This is a breaking news story.

Machete-Wielding Homeless Man Arrested After Terrifying Delivery Driver Encounter

0

Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Jason Ira Hosey Jr., 30, found himself in legal trouble last night after being accused of brandishing a machete and threatening a delivery driver.

As the clock neared 9:43 p.m. on July 24, deputies from the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office arrived at Holly Heights following reports of an armed altercation. The Instacart driver involved recounted how a white male, clad in a blue shirt, emerged from an apartment and demanded he move his vehicle’s headlights. Incensed, the man reportedly approached the driver, threatening to strike him with the machete.

While officers gathered details from those in the apartment, the delivery driver noticed the alleged aggressor pass by on an e-scooter, now in a gray shirt. The deputies intercepted the e-scooter rider, identified him as Hosey, and took him into custody.

Residents of the apartment confirmed they had ordered from Instacart and overheard a dispute outside, initially assuming it involved a neighbor. One of the men stated that Hosey had indeed donned a blue shirt earlier and swapped for a gray one before leaving on the e-scooter.

The victim identified Hosey as the person who had threatened him with a machete.

A resident of the apartment gave deputies consent to enter, and a deputy found a “very large knife” with Hosey’s belongings.

Hosey, who is described as homeless on the arrest report, has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He has no local criminal history, but he has arrests in Texas.

Judge David Kreider ordered him held without bail pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s Office to hold him without bail until trial; if the judge denies the motion, bail will be set at that hearing.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

LA’s Mayor Celebrates Bold Revitalization with Removal of Infamous ‘Graffiti Towers

0

Two towering, abandoned skyscrapers in the heart of Los Angeles are about to receive a much-needed facelift, after years of being marred by graffiti that turned them into a stark emblem of urban deterioration.

The saga of these neglected high-rises began over a decade ago. It all started when Oceanwide Holdings, a Chinese corporation, invested a staggering $1.2 billion to acquire a vast parcel of land opposite the renowned Crypto.com Arena.

Ambitious from the outset, the company aimed to bring luxury living and hospitality to life with upscale condos and a hotel. However, their grand vision screeched to a halt in 2019. The interruption was caused by the Chinese government’s decision to curtail overseas investment, leaving Oceanwide financially stranded.

For years, the city has battled to address this urban blunder through the bankruptcy court as these three forlorn towers stood, empty and silent.

In their abandoned state, the structures earned the nickname ‘graffiti towers,’ as vandals clambered up the buildings, plastering them with sprawling street art.

The site also became a hotspot for thrillseekers who filmed stunts like base jumping and tightrope walking there, resulting in dozens of arrests.

Mayor Karen Bass enhanced a police presence in the area and blocked off access to the towers in 2024, but the development stood as a visual reminder of LA’s economic woes.

Signs of hope for an end to the madness came earlier this month when the city withdrew its objections to a modified bankruptcy plan proposed by a new buyer. Although the site was initially bought for $1.2 billion, the new buyer purchased the towers for $470 million.

‘Oceanwide Plaza sits at the center of one of Downtown Los Angeles’ most important economic corridors, linking the Convention Center, Crypto.com Arena, LA LIVE, and the broader South Park district,’ Bass said in a statement on Monday.

‘Completing this project is about far more than finishing a building. It’s about restoring confidence, reconnecting a vital commercial corridor, and unlocking the economic potential of one of the city’s most strategic destinations ahead of a transformative decade for Los Angeles.

‘I look forward to an expedited closing and the proposed buyer delivering on their commitments.’

The news is a much-needed win for Bass’s administration amid heightened concerns about crime.

City officials have also been under pressure to clean up the streets ahead of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

KPC Development Co emerged as a potential buyer in February. The company has previously erected commercial properties in California and India.

A spokesperson for the parties involved said one of the towers will be designed for an 11-story luxury Park Hyatt hotel above residential floors.

KPC is also building a $300 million hotel next to SoFi Stadium. CEO Kali P Chaudhuri told the Los Angeles Times in February that he was ‘very excited’ about the project.

‘I’ll try my very best to turn it around and make it the jewel of downtown LA,’ he said. Chaudhuri added that his first priority would be to remove the graffiti.

Bass said at the time that she looked forward to working with KPC to revitalize the plaza, writing in a statement, ‘Right in the heart of downtown Los Angeles, the blighted Oceanwide Plaza has been an eyesore for too long due to failed ownership.’

‘With the resurgence of our Downtown and as we prepare to host Olympic and Paralympic events right across the street, I look forward to working with the new ownership to transform this plaza into something that spurs further investment — and that Angelenos can be proud of.’

Despite KPC’s interest, the sale had been caught up in bankruptcy court since April as the city struggled to agree on terms.

City attorneys withdrew their objections on Monday, conceding that KPC had agreed to ‘meaningful improvements’ that serve the interests of downtown residents.

‘Today’s ruling reflects months of coordinated work across every stakeholder in this case,’ Sharon Weiss, an attorney representing the buyer, said in a statement.

‘The withdrawal of objections from the City and County, combined with the court’s confirmation, paves the way for the sale to move toward closing.’

Among the terms of the agreement was the immediate removal of graffiti within 30 days.

‘Our team is ready to move from planning to implementation, beginning with graffiti abatement and site cleanup, and ultimately delivering meaningful economic investment, jobs, hospitality and long-term community benefits for Los Angeles,’ Chaudhuri said in a statement to Bloomberg.

Katie Lee Shares Uplifting GLP-1 Journey Update

Renowned Food Network star Katie Lee Biegel has candidly shared her journey of using GLP-1 medication to assist with weight loss.

“The experience has been overwhelmingly positive,” Biegel, who is 44, revealed on the July 23 episode of her podcast “All on the Table.” She started using the high-profile weight loss medication in February, acknowledging that such a choice is deeply personal and unique to each individual’s sense of well-being regarding their ideal weight.

The host of The Kitchen disclosed her objective to shed “10 to 12 extra pounds” of weight gained after childbirth, a goal she struggled to achieve on her own. Katie and her partner, Ryan Biegel, celebrated the arrival of their daughter Iris in 2020.

Detailing her challenges, Katie said, “I was carrying around an extra 10 to 12 pounds over the past five and a half years since having Iris, and I couldn’t seem to lose them.” Despite regular workouts and a healthy diet, she didn’t see the expected results and felt unlike herself. “I was working out five times a week, eating well, yet the weight remained, leaving me feeling unlike the person I wanted to be.”

GettyImages-2221772869-brianna-lapaglia-ozempic

The use of Ozempic in weight management has been a buzzing topic, with various celebrities admitting or denying their use of the drug. For instance, Chelsea Handler confessed in January 2023 on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast that she inadvertently took this medication for Type 2 diabetes, which is typically used to manage […]

She continued, “As we get older, especially for women with menopause, your metabolism changes, also the way that your body processes sugar changes. There are so many additional benefits to these drugs besides just losing weight, [including] reducing inflammation, reducing your risk of heart disease that I talked about it with my doctor and it felt right for me.”

GLP-1s, including Wegovy and Mounjaro, are typically prescribed for adults who struggle with weight-related conditions. Doctors often warn individuals against using semaglutides for casual weight loss.

After a discussion with her physician, Katie began using a GLP-1 at “a micro, micro dose.”

“I went up and then I went down to a micro micro dose. I am not looking to lose any more weight,” she stated of her progress. “I lost what I wanted to lose, and I feel like a new freaking person. It has been so good for me both physically and mentally because I don’t have to think about [my size] any more when I put on my pants.”

Celebrities Weight Loss Transformations Photos of Jelly Roll and More

Shocking, indeed! Some celebs seek out extreme methods to shed pounds, while others transform with the aid of healthier methods. From Rosie O’Donnell’s and Jordin Sparks’ respective 50 pound weight losses to Biggest Loser winner Rachel Frederickson’s whopping 155 lighter frame, see before and after pictures of celebrities’ weight loss transformations.

The celebrity chef further shut down any criticism of her GLP-1 use.

“The body positivity movement has been wonderful on so many levels, but then it’s also made it so that if you say that you want to lose weight, then that’s a bad thing,” Katie acknowledged. “I think it’s OK as long as you’re healthy [and] as long as you’re looking to do things in a healthy way, and that’s what I did and it was right for me. It doesn’t mean it’s right for you or right for your neighbor, but you do you. I have really really loved it, so I think if you’re thinking about it, talk to your doctor. It is also not something to be ashamed about.”

Top 5 Least Skilled Lightsaber Duelists in Star Wars

0

The Star Wars saga has been defined by epic lightsaber battles involving legendary figures like Yoda, Count Dooku, Anakin Skywalker, Darth Maul, Luke Skywalker, Emperor Palpatine, and Qui-Gon Jinn. Their mastery of the lightsaber and profound connection to the Force have cemented their status as icons within this beloved universe. The brilliance of these duels, along with the electrifying trench runs of the Death Star, has etched unforgettable moments in the minds of fans. The lightsaber itself stands as a timeless symbol of the franchise, and those who wield it with skill are cherished by audiences worldwide.

Yet, there lies another side to these epic confrontations—those who are not so adept at wielding a lightsaber. Primarily featuring high-stakes combat, Star Wars rarely highlights instances where combat prowess is lacking. However, just as not every lightsaber clash ranks among the greatest, not every fighter shines. In this exploration, we delve into the realm of the least impressive lightsaber wielders.

Let’s establish some criteria before we proceed: experience and training are pivotal factors in our assessment. We won’t focus on fresh padawans or newly appointed knights who found themselves outmatched by General Grievous during the Clone Wars. The scope here is limited to on-screen characters with significant fight records in both movies and the canonical television series. As such, we are excluding characters from the expansive Legends universe, comics, novels, and video games. That’s why we aren’t bringing Atton Rand into this discussion despite some builds rendering him ineffective with a lightsaber, and Agen Kolar is exempt as well, considering his premature demise at the hands of Palpatine. Also, to avoid redundancy, we’re reserving a single spot for an Inquisitor; otherwise, the list would be dominated by them.

5. Savage Opress

To set expectations, let’s start from the bottom and work our way up. At the tail end of this ranking is Savage Opress. While he may initially be perceived as a formidable combatant, a closer examination reveals his reliance on raw strength, Force sensitivity, and the shadow of his far more adept brother, Darth Maul. The focus here is solely on lightsaber dueling prowess, distinct from overall combat competency.

When it comes to lightsaber dueling, Savage has suffered significant defeats, albeit against some of the galaxy’s most skilled adversaries, explaining his placement at fifth on this list. In “The Clone Wars,” Count Dooku defeats him repeatedly. Even when paired with Asajj Ventress against Dooku, Savage remains more of a chaotic force than a decisive duelist. Though still in training, his struggles continue into the show’s fifth season. In a two-on-one face-off with Maul against Darth Sidious, Savage finds himself outclassed before being killed by Palpatine.

Dooku and Palpatine are tough foes against whom to rate a person’s skill, but even when you watch Savage skirmishing with Obi-Wan or a group of Hutt-hired bounty hunters, the lightsaber just isn’t the point of focus. He’s a brawler, and any time he has to fall back on actual finesse, he usually looks overmatched, no matter how far in his favor the numbers are. But we love Savage, and he’s still an incredibly formidable combatant, so he goes no higher (or, well, lower).

4. Kylo Ren

Kylo’s fight record is sort of the opposite of Savage’s, in that we never really see him punch above his weight class. Most of his duels in the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy are punching down — Finn and Poe, with no formal training, in “The Force Awakens,” and a group of Praetorian Guards in “The Last Jedi.” He does beat Rey in “The Rise of Skywalker” (before getting distracted and sucker-punched), but though they’re better matched in that film, he still has years on her in terms of training and experience. Absent the injuries he’s fighting through in “The Force Awakens,” that’s a matchup he should absolutely win.

For someone who trained under Luke Skywalker — someone with Skywalker blood and every advantage of knowledge — Kylo just falls well below where he should. His aggression is a frequent weakness, and he fights with little grace, eschewing the traditional lightsaber forms in favor of a brutal, battle-hammer style that works on less skilled opponents but always looks a little unbalanced.

Maybe if we’d gotten a better look at him fighting as Ben Solo, absent the corruption of the dark side, he’d dodge this list. Or maybe the original Kylo Ren ending would have given us a dark side villain worthy of his heritage. We have neither to work with. What we do see throughout the sequels is a nepo baby who clearly isn’t getting his reps in.

3. The Eleventh Brother

Clocking in at our first podium spot is the token Imperial Inquisitor of this list, the Eleventh Brother. To be fair, we could have chosen any of his brethren or, uh, sistren? Yes, it seems that’s a word. Any of his brethren or sistren could have gone here, with Reva of “Obi-Wan Kenobi” and the Fifth Brother and Seventh Sister of “Rebels” getting special consideration. But none of those characters have a single loss as brutal and embarrassing as the one the Eleventh Brother suffers in “Tales of the Jedi.”

Facing off against Ahsoka Tano, who doesn’t have a lightsaber, the Inquisitor gets off a full three swings before his fourth is caught by the former Jedi. She quickly disarms him and then kills him with a single blow. The whole duel takes about 10 seconds. It’s arguably the hardest anyone has ever lost a lightsaber fight in Star Wars.

If that were the Eleventh Brother’s only notable appearance, he might sit at the top of the list. Blessedly for him, his recent appearance in “Star Wars: Maul — Shadow Lord” is a much better showing, where he holds his own alongside fellow Inquisitor Marrok against Maul and a pair of Jedi on the run. That show saves him from utter shame, but he’s still a very bad lightsaber fighter.

2. Yord Fandar

Yord Horde, I’m sorry. Your boy is not the one.

Say what you want about “The Acolyte,” but it’s hard to deny that the short-lived series has some of the best lightsaber dueling in all of Star Wars. The choreography is next-level, and there are a lot of fights, many featuring truly top-tier duelists like the dark side Stranger (Manny Jacinto) and Jedi Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae). Unfortunately, all of that skill only makes the less capable warriors look worse by comparison, which is exactly what happens to Jedi Knight Yord Fandar (Charlie Barnett) in the show’s fifth episode, “Night.”

Facing off against the Stranger in the jungles of Khofar with a whole team of other Jedi at his side, Yord gets his entire business totally rocked in short order. The Stranger doesn’t even need to use his fancy cortosis helmet to turn off Yord’s lightsaber. He dispatches him in a matter of seconds with simple saber technique, wounding him and leaving him for dead. When Yord tries to redeem himself by leaping back into the battle later on, the Stranger once again embarrasses him, breaks him into a submission hold, and then snaps his neck. It’s brutal, but honestly, Yord, you never had a chance.

Yes, Yord is a less experienced Jedi, but this is just too tough of a performance to bounce back from, even taking into consideration his youth and hubris.

1. Sabine Wren

Look, we all know that Sabine Wren can scrap with the best of ’em. She’s a seasoned Mandalorian warrior with the full bag of tricks — flamethrowers, fibercord whips, blasters, jetpacks, the whole shebang. She also gets proper lightsaber training after claiming the Darksaber in “Star Wars Rebels,” learning from Kanan Jarrus. In the “Ahsoka” series, she gets more training from the eponymous protagonist, and we learn that she actually trained with Ahsoka pretty extensively between the two shows.

Despite all that, Sabine is … not the best with the blade. Perhaps it’s her Mandalorian fighting style winning out, but she gets rocked pretty hard by Shin Hati on multiple occasions in “Ahsoka.” While she gets a win over Gar Saxon in “Rebels,” that fight is more of a Mando brawl, and he has even less saber training than she does. Despite being given every opportunity to improve, Sabine always looks like she’s on the back foot when fighting with a lightsaber, and her duel record is lousy for as long as it is.

The counterargument, of course, is that she isn’t Force-sensitive … except, she is. The controversial “Ahsoka” storyline of Sabine finally connecting to the Force makes that a questionable excuse for her prior duels, and even beforehand, her technique, which has nothing to do with Force-sensitivity, just isn’t great. She’s a strong fighter, and a fun character, but her lightsaber abilities just aren’t there. And given how much training and screentime she’s had to prove otherwise, it’s relatively easy to put her at the top of this list.

Horrific Discovery: Mother Arrested for Keeping Children in Feces-Filled “Biohazard” Home

In a harrowing discovery, a Florida mother has been taken into custody following revelations that her three children were living amid deplorable conditions, with their home tainted by fecal matter.

Carla Nishikura now faces three charges of child neglect without significant bodily harm, as confirmed by jail records reviewed by Oxygen. The status of her plea is currently unknown, and her legal representative has yet to respond to inquiries for comment.

“Deputies were met with an appalling sight inside the residence,” Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly conveyed in a statement to Oxygen. “Such conditions are unfit for anyone, not even a pet, to endure for even one night.”

The disturbing scene came to light on July 16, prompted by a call from neighbors who observed a naked child wandering outside and hurling rocks, according to 911 call recordings accessed by Oxygen.

Upon Nishikura opening the door, she explained the situation involving her 8-year-old daughter, who has autism, is non-verbal, and has previously wandered off, as detailed in a charging affidavit referenced by Oxygen. Nishikura admitted the child had exited through the garage door while she was asleep, due to forgetting to secure it the night before.

Inside, officers were hit with a strong odor and noted that feces were “coating” the walls, floors and ceiling of the kitchen and living room, according to the affidavit. They also observed cracked electrical outlet covers with exposed wires.

The girl’s room contained only a bed frame, but no mattress, and the floor was “covered” with fecal matter, urine and cracked eggs, the affidavit noted. Nishikura said her daughter had been sleeping on a couch in the living room, while her other children slept in a separate bedroom or in her room.

Meanwhile, the officer noted in the affidavit that the 8-year-old was “using a tool to scrape fecal matter from the wall and manipulate it with her hands.”

One of the children said they were told not to enter their sister’s bedroom, according to the affidavit, adding that the feces—which they described as “hard as a rock”—had been there for approximately a month.

Nishikura acknowledged her living conditions but said she was unable to manage the home and children by herself.

She also said she had a Department of Children and Families caseworker but could not provide a name or contact number, according to the affidavit.

The officer later learned that a representative of a case management agency had visited the family’s home the previous day and filed a report over its “deplorable” conditions, according to the affidavit. That representative also told police that a cleaning service had been arranged, but the company declined due to the “biohazard conditions.”

Nishikura was detained outside while trying to re-enter her home, according to body-camera footage obtained by Oxygen. She was booked into the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility on a $7,500 bond.

A judge later issued Nishikura a no-contact order with her children, regardless of her release. Court records show her next court date is Aug. 18.
