Punk Rock Icon Lou Koller Passes Away at 59 After Courageous Cancer Fight

0

The music world mourns the loss of punk rock icon Lou Koller, who succumbed to cancer at the age of 59.

Koller rose to fame as the dynamic lead vocalist of the influential band Sick Of It All, a group he co-founded in New York City in 1986, leaving an indelible mark on the hardcore scene.

Band members confirmed the heart-wrenching news on Friday, posting a heartfelt tribute on Instagram to their late comrade.

“With deep sorrow, we share the passing of our brother Lou Koller with our global hardcore community,” the post read. “The magnitude of our loss is beyond words.”

Koller’s untimely passing comes as the band was on the cusp of celebrating its 40th anniversary, marking a poignant milestone in their remarkable journey.

‘And Lou’s camaraderie, commitment and enthusiasm were always steadfast throughout the years.’

‘We have lost a beloved friend and an iconic frontman,’ the statement continued.

‘Lou had the power to raise everyone’s spirits at our shows with a smile and a sarcastic comment, and he won people over wherever we played, from every culture and every corner of the world.’

His bandmates added, ‘At this time of intense grief, we must again acknowledge the great help and support offered by everyone who donated to Lou’s medical fund.

‘You all helped Lou feel very special and very loved as he battled away these last two years.’

Koller’s ‘battle is over now and he can finally rest. Hopefully he can somehow still see and feel the beautiful, positive mark he left on the world.’

Back in June 2024, the music artist revealed that doctors had found a tumor in his esophagus and was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma cancer.

Koller had shared a video to the group’s Instagram page at the time, explaining that doctors ‘found a tumor in my esophagus that goes into my stomach.

‘And I’ll have to be getting treatment all summer – and of course, with full support of the band.’

He continued, ‘As soon as they heard it, they were, like, “Forget the tour. Just get healthy.”‘

Koller said that both he and the band ‘feel sorry for the fans’ as well as the crew and promoters.

The singer further expressed, ‘Thank you so much for all of your support. I’ll hopefully beat this thing and see you at the end of the summer – or maybe the winter.’

‘Thank you for your support! Take care of each other!! Play so Sick Of It All loud!’

Koller was born in Queens, New York and later formed the hardcore punk band Sick Of It All with his brother Pete when they were still in high school.

The siblings were joined by drummer David Lamb as the original members of the group. Mark McNeely also later joined as bassist.

The band’s first show took place in May 1986 in Long Island at Right Track Inn.

Rhapsody Of Realities 25 July 2026: Three Important Provisions For Life’s Journey

Rhapsody Of Realities 25 July 2026 By Pastor Chris Oyakhilome (Christ Embassy): Three Important Provisions For Life’s Journey

TOPIC: Three Important Provisions For Life’s Journey (Rhapsody of Realities 25 July 2026)

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen – 2 Corinthians 13:14

Rhapsody Of Realities For Today’s MESSAGE:

Some have recited our opening verse countless times without realizing it’s from the Scriptures. To them, it’s merely a closing prayer at the end of a service. Yet, in that scripture, we’ve been blessed with three indispensable provisions for life’s journey. Any Christian, anywhere, regardless of city or nation, who walks by these three important keys will live victoriously in every circumstance, irrespective of the challenges they may face.

The first one is the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ. What does this mean? The Bible says in John 1:17, “For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.” This means you couldn’t really know God until Jesus came. The prophets of the Old Testament brought God’s message but they didn’t express the real character of our heavenly Father.

Study the Old Testament; you’d find the Law and the judgments that made the people fear God. But the Lord Jesus came and expressed the love of God. He said, “…he that hath seen me hath seen the Father…” (John 14:9). To know God, you must know Jesus. He is the One who expressed God’s character: His person and His reality. Grace and truth (reality) came by Jesus Christ.

The second thing is the love of God. God wants us to walk in the light of His love. Understand that all love is not the same. This isn’t about a mother’s love or a friend’s love. It’s a different kind of love, love that knows no bounds. Love that’s beyond this world. Love that’s liquid and flows eternally.

The third one, the communion of the Holy Spirit, is so important because the Father and the Lord Jesus are in heaven, but the Holy Spirit is here with us. He’s in you and will always be. That fellowship is your greatest blessing and advantage in life.

God’s desire is that you walk in the light of these three amazing blessings; they are to be your daily realities. When you understand them and walk in their light, it won’t matter where you are, where you’re placed, or what comes against you, you’ll always rise above and remain victorious. Hallelujah!

PRAYER

Dear Father, I walk daily in the fullness of your blessings, guided by your grace, rooted in your love, and sustained by unbroken fellowship with the Holy Spirit. My life is victorious, excellent and ever triumphant, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY

Romans 5:5 (KJV)
And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

1 John 1:3 (KJV)
That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.

2 Timothy 1:9 (KJV)
Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

2 Corinthians 13:14 (AMPC)
The grace (favor and spiritual blessing) of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the presence and fellowship (the communion and sharing together, and participation) in the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen (so be it).

REMINDER!!! JESUS IS COMING SOON

ARE YOU BORN AGAIN? IF NO, WHY NOT ACCEPT JESUS NOW!

Accept Jesus Christ today and secure a life of eternal rest and Glory by saying this short prayer below:

Lord Jesus, I believe you died for my sins, Forgive me of all my iniquities. I accept you as my Lord and Saviour from today and forever.

Come and Be the Lord of my life and I am willing to obey Your command and live according to Your will by Your Grace, Thank you for accepting me into Your fold

California Arrest: Transgender Suspect Charged in Mother’s Murder Following Intense Argument

0

This week, across the country, a separate incident has also shaken the community of Laguna Beach, California, where a man is now in custody related to the death of his mother. Law enforcement officials disclosed the arrest, bringing attention to the grim occurrence.

Identified by the Laguna Beach Police Department, Angela Caprioli, 61, was discovered dead in a residence on Monday. Details emerging from the New York Post have confirmed that Caprioli and the accused, Safford Wolfson, share a mother-son relationship.

Further investigation led to the arrest of 36-year-old Wolfson on Thursday, who had already been a person of interest in the case. He now faces serious allegations after being apprehended on suspicion of murder.

Police said officers responded to a home in the 1300 block of Dunning Drive shortly after 11 a.m. for a death investigation and found Caprioli deceased.

The circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation.

Neighbor Dustin Pettit said he witnessed Wolfson and Caprioli engaged in what appeared to be a heated argument at the home days before the alleged killing.

“I saw her outside talking with him and it seemed like a pretty hostile conversation,” Pettit told The California Post.

“She turned around and went inside and slammed the door, like she was fed up with whatever was going on.”

Pettit also told CBS Los Angeles that Wolfson had moved into the home about six months earlier.

“He was pretty mysterious. He wasn’t talking to us, you know, he would come outside, smoke a cigarette and play some guitar,” he said. “That’s kinda the extent of the relationship we’ve had with him over the last six months or so.”

According to the New York Post, social media accounts associated with Wolfson identify the account holder as transgender.

The outlet also reported that Wolfson wrote on Facebook in 2024: “Not even my mom wants to hang out with me man… talk about lame-o!”

Explosion Aftermath: Burned Osprey Highlights Rising Tensions Between Space Launches and Wildlife Preservation

PALM SHORES, Fla. – A tragically injured osprey, discovered the day after a rocket blast at a Blue Origin launch facility, is currently recuperating at the Florida Wildlife Hospital.

The unfortunate explosion occurred during a testing phase at Cape Canaveral last May. Hospital team members report that a biologist discovered the osprey at the launch site and swiftly transported it for immediate care.

Today, approximately two months later, the osprey remains reliant on hand-feedings, receiving fish from caretakers three times daily as part of its recovery process.

Veterinary examinations revealed significant damage, with singed feathers covering the bird’s head, neck, and wings. One of its feet sustained a deep injury extending to the bone.

“Perhaps the bird was caught at the edge of the blast, although similar injuries are common among animals suffering from electrocution,” explained Dr. April Geer, the staff veterinarian. “The exact cause remains uncertain.”

Geer and her team have treated the osprey with bandage changes, medication and laser therapy. They also removed damaged feathers from one wing so new ones could grow.

The wound is now about 90% healed, according to Geer, but the osprey cannot be released until its feathers grow back and it can fly safely again.

There may never be a way to determine exactly what caused the injuries. However, the timing and location of the bird’s discovery are renewing concerns among some Brevard County residents about the growing number of launches on the Space Coast.

“I always think about that every time a launch goes up, because it is a very wild area out there – a beautiful wild area where a lot of animals live, a lot of threatened species and endangered species,” Florida Wildlife Hospital Executive Director Tracy Frampton said. “So it does worry me.”

Mark Nathan has spent years participating in local conservation projects, including bird counts. He said he supports the space program but worries about the environmental effects of launches happening several times a week.

“I don’t think it’s good for us, the wildlife, plant life or anything,” Nathan said. “I’m concerned about the fallout – what’s coming out of those engines.”

Nathan is not claiming the explosion caused the osprey’s injuries. He said people living alongside the growing space industry should have a voice in how far it expands.

“We didn’t sign up for this,” Nathan said. “We’ve been living here most of our lives, and now all of a sudden, it just kind of was put on us.”

Florida Wildlife Hospital staff expect the osprey to recover and eventually fly again.

But as more rockets lift off from the Space Coast, questions remain about how to balance the space industry with the wildlife living beneath it.

Juan Soto Leaves Game: Mets Face New Injury Setback

0

The New York Mets appear to be facing yet another injury dilemma involving their star player Juan Soto.

During Friday’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Soto made an early exit in the sixth inning, with the team citing “left calf soreness” as the reason for his departure.

Up until that point at Citi Field, the formidable hitter had been on base twice, courtesy of two walks.

Following Soto’s exit, Jorge Polanco stepped in to fill his spot in the lineup.

This incident adds to a growing list of injury troubles for Soto, who has already faced other sidelining setbacks over the past three months.

In April, Soto missed 15 games after he was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right calf issue.

He later experienced back soreness in June that forced him to exit a game against the Cubs and kept him out of the subsequent one.

The 27-year-old also left a game against the Phillies earlier this month due to mild left calf cramping/soreness.

Biden-Clemenced Drug Dealer Arrested Again in Alleged Money Laundering Operation

In Texas, a man who had his drug-related prison term shortened by President Joe Biden in 2025 has been apprehended this week on a federal charge stemming from Michigan. The accusation involves money laundering activities.

Lakento Brian Smith, age 55, who previously resided in Muskegon before relocating to Houston, has been indicted for engaging in a conspiracy to launder money to support felony violations of the Controlled Substances Act. This accusation was revealed following the unsealing of a federal criminal complaint by prosecutors on Thursday.

Smith, who was handed a life sentence in 2006, was convicted on charges of conspiracy to distribute cocaine and “crack” cocaine, along with possession with intent to distribute cocaine and being a felon in possession of firearms.

Thanks to the First Step Act, a significant piece of criminal justice reform legislation approved during the first Trump administration, Smith’s sentence saw a reduction to 30 years in 2019. By January 2025, President Biden commuted his sentence, although specifics behind this decision were not provided. Despite this commutation, Smith remained bound to an eight-year period of supervised release.

The new charge stems from an alleged drug-dealing operation run by another man in Muskegon, according to the criminal complaint.

In September 2025, law enforcement used a confidential source with a criminal history to inquire about “prices and quantities of cocaine” from the unnamed co-defendant, the complaint alleges.

After subjecting the co-defendant’s residence to surveillance, investigators took note of an interaction in which a person who carried “a large duffle bag from the passenger side of [a] semi-truck and carried the bag” inside with two hands, according to the charging document. Then, some 16 minutes later, the person emerged “carrying a duffle bag in his right hand and a large bag over his shoulder, putting both in the passenger side of the semi-truck and then driving away.”

The complaint alleges this bag exchange was actually a drug deal where bulk amounts of the illicit product were exchanged for large quantities of cash. That’s where Smith allegedly enters the picture.

Federal agents allege Smith helped facilitate the drug operation by arranging to move the proceeds out of the Wolverine State.

In March, during a phone call with an undercover DEA agent, Smith allegedly said he was in Texas but that “everything I got going on” is in Michigan, an apparent reference to the drug operation.

After the first agent arranged a bulk cash pickup with Smith, another undercover agent spoke with the man in Michigan and later engaged in two such cash pickups in the parking lot of a Walmart in Muskegon, according to the complaint.

During the first exchange in March, the Michigan man delivered a brown paper bag to the undercover DEA agent containing two vacuum-sealed bundles of cash allegedly totaling $80,000, as well as a lone dollar bill meant to act as something of a calling card for operational security, according to law enforcement. A second exchange in April allegedly involved another $50,000 bundle of cash.

In June, Smith allegedly met with the first undercover agent outside the defendant’s residence in Houston. There, the two discussed the alleged drug operation at length, authorities say. They discussed Smith’s weekly proceeds and his view of the Michigan man, according to the complaint.

“He’s old school,” Smith allegedly said. “He’s got my best interest. I know he really unconditionally loves me.”

Smith also allegedly expressed a preference for working with cocaine over other more dangerous drugs like fentanyl.

“It’s a party drug, the cocaine,” Smith allegedly said. “I really…I want the cocaine more than I want the other s—.”

Prosecutors allege Smith conspired to transport at least $130,000 in “clean” drug money. The complaint also alleges a series of structured cash deposits between the Michigan man and Smith’s wife, which were allegedly used to evade reporting requirements.

Trump’s Fiery Correspondents’ Dinner Speech Promises Unity Amid Controversy

0

Donald Trump has fulfilled his commitment to attend the White House Correspondents’ Dinner after the original date was canceled due to an attempted attack on the president’s life.

On Friday evening, Trump attended the event without First Lady Melania Trump. Instead, he was seated beside WHCA President Weija Jiang and Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt at Washington’s Waldorf Astoria hotel.

The president was observed having conversations with Jiang as the evening progressed, with other prominent figures mingling at tables nearby.

Notable attendees included Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and his wife Cheryl Hines, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller.

The dinner was rescheduled to take place at the Waldorf Astoria’s ballroom. Unlike the original larger venue, it accommodated around 700 guests after April’s event was disrupted by a shooting incident outside the dining hall.

The White House Correspondent’s Association (WHCA) vowed at the time that the event would be rescheduled, and violence would not ‘have the last word’ in scuttling the annual gala.

The event, moved from its longtime home of the Washington Hilton, has been billed as more ‘intimate’, with heightened airport-style security.

Speaking at the outset of the event Friday, Jiang highlighted a rare ‘split screen’ moment in the moments after the shooting that halted the original event.

‘While journalists in the ballroom were gathering facts and getting them to the public, I got a rare glimpse of something few of us ever see in real time,’ she said.

‘In a holding room, President Trump was huddled with members of his cabinet, asking questions, finding the best way to share the answers with everyone, which is our job description too.’

‘I keep coming back to that split screen – not because it was dramatic, but because it quietly proved, no matter how complicated or tense the relationship is between the press and the presidency, what we share is far more important than anything else, and that is our duty to serve the American people,’ she said.

Incoming WHCA President Jacqui Heinrich of Fox News highlighted a similar theme.

‘The attempt on President Trump’s life last April was a sobering reminder that democracy is not immune to violence, and the freedoms that we cherish can never be taken for granted,’ she said.

‘Political violence must have no home in America.’

Despite that, the White House promised a high-caliber speech from Trump, who until this year has never attended a White House Correspondents’ Dinner as president.

The president’s remarks will be ‘a combination of unifying yet vicious, and serious yet hilarious, all at the same time, if you can imagine that,’ White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said ahead of Trump’s speech Friday afternoon.

‘One thing I can assure you, it will be entertaining,’ she added.

Trump also mulled his speech on Truth Social last month.

‘I don’t know whether or not I will give the same rather nasty statements, at least as it concerns certain people, but we will soon find out,’ the Republican president wrote.

‘In any event, it will be a ‘HOT’ ticket!’

As they dined, attendees heard from current and former White House Correspondents’ Association presidents highlighting the importance of press freedom.

They were also shown footage of the gunman trying to enter the Washington Hilton ballroom in April – an emotional experience for many in the audience, who had been at the same event months prior.

That individual, Cole Allen, 31, pleaded not guilty in May to federal charges, including attempting to assassinate the president.

During a press conference after the original April event, Trump described the shooter as ‘a sick person, a very sick person.’

‘He’s a lone wolf, a whack job,’ Trump said of the shooter. ‘These are crazy people. Sick, sick people.’

Besides the pared-down approach, there was another marked change at Friday’s dinner: two additional awards to individuals who risked their lives and otherwise acted courageously to ensure the safety of the president and other attendees.

One award was presented to Victor Gonzales, the Secret Service agent who was staffing a security checkpoint in April and was struck in his protective vest.

‘Officer Gonzales … ran toward danger so that thousands of others could make it home safely,’ Jiang said in a statement.

‘His courage stemmed from a dedication to service, which we are looking forward to honoring this week.’

A second award was presented to the staff of the Washington Hilton hotel, site of the first dinner.

With security in mind, there will be only one entrance at the much smaller venue, with airport-style metal detectors.

Guests received individual QR entry codes in advance, and nobody can get in unless recognized.

‘There is NO red carpet at this dinner,’ said a memo Jiang sent to some guests last month, seen by The Associated Press. ‘There are NO onsite pre-dinner receptions.’

The dress code this time is a looser ‘black tie optional,’ and dinner includes grilled peach and burrata salad, lobster, and beef Wellington.

The evening, as at the last dinner, has entertainment by mentalist Oz Pearlman, along with the awards presentations and Trump’s remarks.

It comes during a time of fast-increasing tension between the media and a president who, in his second term, has tried to exert pressure on media outlets he is unhappy with in a variety of ways.

That pressure has ranged from sanctions against members of the White House press corps to regulatory actions through the Federal Communications Commission to outright lawsuits.

Those tensions have only escalated since April, with the latest example reaching a New York courtroom on Thursday.

There, criticized by a federal judge for sloppy legal work, the government withdrew subpoenas that would have compelled three New York Times reporters to testify about their sources for articles about Trump’s Qatari-gifted Air Force One jet.

According to police reports, the 30-year-old victim was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Fortunately, his status began improving by Tuesday morning.

The breakthrough in the case came when investigators made public images of two individuals of interest. These individuals were reportedly seen conversing with the victim prior to the shooting event.

Subsequent investigations led police to identify one of these individuals as the key suspect, prompting the issuance of an arrest warrant. Highland Park police, in collaboration with federal and regional agencies, focused their efforts on tracking the suspect, who had previously been spotted at a local residence before disappearing from the area.

Law enforcement in Fort Wayne, Indiana, responded to a call for service involving the suspect on Friday. Police identified the Lake County, Illinois arrest warrant during their investigation.

The suspect was apprehended and will remain in custody in Indiana on local charges until he is extradited to Illinois and charged in connection with the shooting in Highland Park.

Police said the shooting was an isolated incident, and those involved knew each other.

Officials did not immediately say whether they are still looking for a second person on Friday.

Jennifer Garner and Timothy Olyphant’s Electrifying Dynamic Fuels Demand for ‘The Five Star Weekend’ Season Two

It’s been a fortnight since The Five Star Weekend premiered on Peacock, and audiences are not only eagerly anticipating the news of a potential second season but are also captivated by the remarkable on-screen chemistry between Jennifer Garner and Timothy Olyphant.

Adapted from Elin Hilderbrand’s 2023 novel, the series features Garner as Hollis Shaw, who invites three friends from various phases of her life, alongside a new unexpected companion, to a girls’ weekend on the idyllic Nantucket, her childhood home. This gathering forces Hollis to face her deep-seated grief over the loss of her husband, Matthew, played by Josh Hamilton, while also reigniting old feelings with her former love, Jack, portrayed by Olyphant. The lingering attraction between them is palpable.

Their romance rekindles gradually across eight captivating episodes, with a pivotal moment arriving in Episode 5, entitled “Saturday Night: Nice Dinner Out.” Here, they share a poignant kiss after hearing “More Than Words” by Extreme on the radio. This song holds a special place in their hearts, leading Jack to step out of the car, urging Hollis to join him.

“Alright, c’mon. We’ve never not danced to this song,” he says, drawing her into a moment of nostalgic intimacy.

Yet, as their lips meet beneath the moonlight, the memory of Matthew intrudes, and Hollis abruptly pulls back, confessing to Jack that she “can’t do this.”

But Jack remains a constant, silent support system, picking up Hollis’ daughter Caroline (Harlow Jane) from the police station, and eventually, cleaning out her gutters. When Hollis catches him doing the latter in The Five Star Weekend‘s Season 1 finale, “Monday Morning: Departures,” Jack admits that he initially thought her intentions might not have been the most genuine, and that she was looking for a “rebound” following Matthew’s passing. However, he tells her that he found the message she had sent him a year prior, ahead of Matthew’s death, that solidified that she had been thinking about him for some time.

While Hollis concedes that she was the one who “ended” things between them so long ago, Jack thinks he wasn’t good enough for her at the time. However, times have changed. The tension between them finally culminates, leading to a hot hook-up, but more than that, a heartwarming reunion between two people who never stopped caring about each other.

The chemistry between Garner and Olyphant is apparent, and according to series showrunner Bekah Brunstetter, was fueled by a sense of comfort that she had with the actor. Brunstetter told DECIDER that Garner was instrumental in Olyphant’s casting, explaining that for both the actors playing Jack and Matthew, the 13 Going on 30 star wanted to “work with some people she had worked with before that she had a level of familiarity and comfort with.” In fact, Brunstetter said that Garner “floated [Olyphant’s] name early on because they did Catch and Release together years ago, which has a hilariously similar plot” to The Five Star Weekend.

“But he just, again, read the material and from the beginning was really just invested in it,” she continued of Olyphant. “And really, you don’t always find this. How cool it is to find a guy who just wants to play the love interest and and play like like not a tertiary character but like play a smaller part with these like five amazing women?”

Not only was Olyphant “generous with his time,” but also “so swoony,” according to Brunstetter.

“It’s like give the people what they want,” she teased. “Like he steps on screen and you’re just like, ‘Oh Tim,’ and it just gives you butterflies and reminds you of all the boys you’ve ever had crushes on. He just serves that and is also a really lovely guy to have around, so we felt really lucky to get him.”

5 Chair Moves to Boost Glute Strength Over 60—Faster Than Yoga

Strengthen your glutes without hitting the gym with these easy-to-do chair exercises.

Aiming to fortify your gluteal muscles is a savvy move, as maintaining muscle strength is crucial for staying agile and flexible in the long run. While many might instinctively think of gym equipment for this task, home-based chair exercises are a surprisingly effective alternative for enhancing glute strength.

The appeal of chair exercises lies in their focus on activating the glute muscles effectively while ensuring the safety of your lower back and knees. They offer a foundational stability perfect for building posterior strength without added risk.

We had a conversation with Terry Tateossian, the Founder and Certified Lifestyle Medicine Coach at THOR – The House of Rose. With her expertise in women’s health and weight loss for those over 40, she shared five highly effective chair exercises that can rejuvenate glute strength more efficiently than yoga, especially for individuals over 60.

However, it’s worth noting that yoga remains a fantastic component of a balanced exercise routine, contributing significantly to overall wellness.

In fact, according to Tateossian, “[Yoga is] one of the most beneficial physical practices for adults over 60, and I recommend it to almost every client where applicable. [That said,] traditional yoga is not designed to build strength through progressive overload.  Chair exercises like the ones I mentioned deliberately concentrate the load on the glutes, which is how you strengthen and rebuild them. In addition, yoga sustains and gently stresses the muscle—like in the warrior pose. Chair exercises overload it progressively.”

Below, Tateossian shares five chair exercises to add to your routine.

Sit-to-Stand

“This is the single most important glute exercise for adults over 60 as it delivers independence as we get older.  Sit to stand without using your arms directly loads the glutes in the exact patterns needed to stand up from a couch, the bathroom or a car. It directly transfers to real life movement,” Tateossian shares.

  1. Begin seated at the front of a sturdy chair, feet under your knees.
  2. Lean forward just a bit.
  3. Try to stand up without using your knees, hands, or additional support.
  4. Then, use control to slowly sit back down for a count of 3.
  5. Perform 3 sets of 10 to 12 reps, sticking with tempo 3010.

Chair-Supported Standing Hip Extensions

“This is a great isolation exercise for the gluteus maximus that targets the glutes through a pure hip extension without any help from the quads,” Tateossian says.

  1. Begin standing tall behind the chair with your hands resting on the back for balance and feet hip-width apart.
  2. Slowly kick one leg straight behind you.
  3. Squeeze the glute of the working leg, holding for 1 second at the top.
  4. Return it to the start position.
  5. Perform 3 sets of 10 to 15 reps per side, sticking with tempo 3010.

Chair-Supported Standing Side Leg Lifts

“This is a great exercise to help with a ‘waddling’ gait while walking. It also stabilizes the standing leg and helps restore lateral hip stability for adults over 60,” Tateossian tells us.

  1. Begin standing tall behind the chair with your hands resting on the back for balance and feet hip-width apart.
  2. Lift one leg out to the side, keeping your toes pointed forward.
  3. Hold for 1 second at the top.
  4. Return it to the start position.
  5. Perform 3 sets of 10 to 15 reps per side, sticking with tempo 3010.

Seated Glute Squeeze Hip Abductions

“When we spend all day sitting, our glutes become ‘sleepy,’ and our bodies unlearn how to activate them. Isometric squeezes like this can turn the switch back on,” Tateossian says.

  1. Begin sitting tall on the chair with your feet flat on the floor.
  2. Squeeze your glutes as hard as you can, holding for 10 seconds.
  3. Release.
  4. Repeat 18 to 20 times for 3 sets.
