5 Chair Moves to Boost Glute Strength Over 60—Faster Than Yoga

0

Strengthen your glutes without hitting the gym with these easy-to-do chair exercises.

>

Aiming to fortify your gluteal muscles is a savvy move, as maintaining muscle strength is crucial for staying agile and flexible in the long run. While many might instinctively think of gym equipment for this task, home-based chair exercises are a surprisingly effective alternative for enhancing glute strength.

The appeal of chair exercises lies in their focus on activating the glute muscles effectively while ensuring the safety of your lower back and knees. They offer a foundational stability perfect for building posterior strength without added risk.

We had a conversation with Terry Tateossian, the Founder and Certified Lifestyle Medicine Coach at THOR – The House of Rose. With her expertise in women’s health and weight loss for those over 40, she shared five highly effective chair exercises that can rejuvenate glute strength more efficiently than yoga, especially for individuals over 60.

However, it’s worth noting that yoga remains a fantastic component of a balanced exercise routine, contributing significantly to overall wellness.

In fact, according to Tateossian, “[Yoga is] one of the most beneficial physical practices for adults over 60, and I recommend it to almost every client where applicable. [That said,] traditional yoga is not designed to build strength through progressive overload.  Chair exercises like the ones I mentioned deliberately concentrate the load on the glutes, which is how you strengthen and rebuild them. In addition, yoga sustains and gently stresses the muscle—like in the warrior pose. Chair exercises overload it progressively.”

Below, Tateossian shares five chair exercises to add to your routine.

Sit-to-Stand

“This is the single most important glute exercise for adults over 60 as it delivers independence as we get older.  Sit to stand without using your arms directly loads the glutes in the exact patterns needed to stand up from a couch, the bathroom or a car. It directly transfers to real life movement,” Tateossian shares.

  1. Begin seated at the front of a sturdy chair, feet under your knees.
  2. Lean forward just a bit.
  3. Try to stand up without using your knees, hands, or additional support.
  4. Then, use control to slowly sit back down for a count of 3.
  5. Perform 3 sets of 10 to 12 reps, sticking with tempo 3010.

If You Can Do These 8 Lower-Body Moves, Your Leg Strength Is Elite

Chair-Supported Standing Hip Extensions

“This is a great isolation exercise for the gluteus maximus that targets the glutes through a pure hip extension without any help from the quads,” Tateossian says.

  1. Begin standing tall behind the chair with your hands resting on the back for balance and feet hip-width apart.
  2. Slowly kick one leg straight behind you.
  3. Squeeze the glute of the working leg, holding for 1 second at the top.
  4. Return it to the start position.
  5. Perform 3 sets of 10 to 15 reps per side, sticking with tempo 3010.

If You Can Hold a Wall Sit This Long After 60, Your Lower-Body Power Is Top-Tier

Chair-Supported Standing Side Leg Lifts

“This is a great exercise to help with a ‘waddling’ gait while walking. It also stabilizes the standing leg and helps restore lateral hip stability for adults over 60,” Tateossian tells us.

  1. Begin standing tall behind the chair with your hands resting on the back for balance and feet hip-width apart.
  2. Lift one leg out to the side, keeping your toes pointed forward.
  3. Hold for 1 second at the top.
  4. Return it to the start position.
  5. Perform 3 sets of 10 to 15 reps per side, sticking with tempo 3010.

If You Can Complete These 4 Exercises Without Stopping After 50, Your Body Strength Is Exceptional

Seated Glute Squeeze Hip Abductions

“When we spend all day sitting, our glutes become ‘sleepy,’ and our bodies unlearn how to activate them. Isometric squeezes like this can turn the switch back on,” Tateossian says.

  1. Begin sitting tall on the chair with your feet flat on the floor.
  2. Squeeze your glutes as hard as you can, holding for 10 seconds.
  3. Release.
  4. Repeat 18 to 20 times for 3 sets.

Hurricane Fausto Forecasted to Strike US Mainland, Say Spaghetti Models

0

Hurricane Fausto is charting an unexpected course, with predictions now indicating a potential direct impact on Hawaii in a rare meteorological event.

According to the latest spaghetti models, this formidable storm could be on track to slam into the islands of Maui, Molokaʻi, Lanaʻi, and Oʻahu by the upcoming week.

Building momentum in the eastern Pacific, Fausto has intensified, and forecasters now anticipate that by Tuesday, it will graze just north of Hawaii’s Big Island as a tropical storm, currently maintaining its Category 2 hurricane status.

The islands directly in its forecasted path are critical hubs, housing the majority of Hawaii’s residents and visitors. The state’s population exceeds one million, heavily concentrated in bustling areas such as Honolulu, Waikiki, Kahului, and Kihei.

Since achieving hurricane designation on July 20, Fausto has maintained powerful winds over 100 mph and charted a near-straight trajectory toward Hawaii.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) warned: ‘Fausto is forecast to approach the Hawaiian Islands during the early to the middle portion of next week. The risk of some impacts from wind and rainfall is increasing.’

However, meteorologists said it is still too early to know exactly how strong the storm will be and which islands could be in danger when Fausto arrives.

Hawaii is in the peak of its summer travel season, with roughly 250,000 vacationers visiting beaches and other tourist attractions on any given day from June to mid-August.

The last Pacific cyclone to directly strike Hawaii was Hurricane Olivia in September 2018, which also reached the islands after weakening to a tropical storm.

Forecasters with AccuWeather predicted that Fausto may continue to strengthen into the weekend before eventually losing power as it heads deeper into the cooler waters of the Central Pacific.

AccuWeather lead hurricane expert Alex DaSilva also agreed with the NHC and the two to three spaghetti model tracks, which showed Fausto eventually being a near-miss for the Hawaiian Islands.

However, DaSilva warned that even a close pass to the north would likely bring rough surf and dangerous rip currents to packed beaches throughout Maui, Molokaʻi, Lanaʻi and Oʻahu, with beaches facing to the east and north seeing the greatest hazards.

A rip current is a strong, narrow channel of water that flows quickly away from the shore, often pulling swimmers out to sea.

They can be deadly even for strong swimmers as they sweep people into deeper water, exhausting them as they try to fight against the current instead of moving parallel to the shore to escape.

DaSilva said: ‘There can also be an uptick in gusty winds and locally drenching showers, depending on the exact track of the storm.’

Fausto is already the sixth named storm to form in the Pacific this summer, with the National Weather Service already predicting another to develop next week.

Meteorologists have been warning that the 2026 Pacific hurricane season could be particularly active due to the emergence of a ‘super’ El Nino in June.

El Nino is a natural climate pattern in which the central and eastern Pacific surface temperature becomes significantly warmer than average, flipping weather patterns worldwide.

Due to the significantly warmer water in the Pacific fueling tropical cyclone activity, forecasters with AccuWeather predicted there would be 17 to 22 named storms across the Pacific this year.

Between nine and 13 of those are projected to be hurricanes, and as many as eight are predicted to reach ‘major hurricane’ status at Category 3 or greater.

‘Hawaii has gone a long time without a direct hurricane landfall, but that should not lead to complacency,’ DaSilva explained in May.

‘Some islands were hit hard by flash flooding in March. People across Hawaii should prepare for an increased risk of tropical impacts this year.’

AccuWeather also warned that their Pacific forecast included one to two direct hits on the state.

El Nino is also feared to result in an uptick of major storms that could threaten California, potentially even reaching major cities like Los Angeles this summer.

‘That extra energy stored in the ocean can help storms strengthen faster, last longer and in some cases move farther north toward places like Baja California and far Southern California,’ DaSilva said.

Education Secretary Faces Backlash: ‘Victim’ Narrative Sparks Controversy Amid Grammar Blunders

0

As the sun dips below the horizon over Didsbury Cricket Club, the neighborhood’s vibrant energy comes alive. Along the bustling high street, wine bars and gastropubs brim with patrons, soaking in the evening ambiance.

This lively scene echoes the cultural vibe that’s earned Didsbury the moniker of ‘the Notting Hill of Manchester.’ It’s a more verdant version of London’s famed neighborhood, once a hub for the Conservative Party’s influential ‘Notting Hill Set.’

With Andy Burnham ushering a wave of Britain’s political powerhouses northward to establish roots at what’s becoming known as ‘Number 10 North,’ whispers of a new ‘Didsbury Set’ may soon follow.

Yet, such notions may not sit well with Lucy Powell, Burnham’s steadfast ally and now appointed Education Secretary, who remains unpretentious about her origins.

Powell, a lifelong resident of Didsbury, paints a different picture of her hometown. Far from being a posh enclave, she views it as a place that has risen through its own efforts, transforming from humble beginnings into the vibrant community it is today.

But then, quite a few aspects of the Lucy Powell life story don’t quite add up.

For a start, we have her claim that she alone out of everyone at her allegedly impoverished Catholic sixth form college made it to Oxford in her year.

‘I was the only one out of that very big sixth-form college, 2,000 people, to get into Oxford that year. I cried the day I got the offer because I didn’t want to go,’ the MP for Manchester Central told the BBC’s Nick Robinson last year. The Financial Times has since discovered that this was clearly not the case, according to at least two contemporaries at Xaverian College.

In talking down her past, Lucy Powell is of course loyally echoing Andy Burnham¿s mantra that northern Britain has been wronged by ¿Westminster¿ / ¿Whitehall¿ / ¿the South¿

In fact, there were several Oxbridge successes. Alumni recalled teachers going to great efforts to get their star pupils prepared for entrance exams and interviews.

A spokesperson for Ms Powell has now said that ‘she is more than happy to be corrected’ and ‘was in no way diminishing the achievements of others’.

I arrive at Xaverian (now closed for the summer) to find a rather fine campus with a handsome, well-tended green quad at its centre. Some buildings are Victorian, others brand new.

The whole place exudes a sense of purpose, as does its website which goes out of its way to stress that the sky is the limit. I can’t imagine that the current staff are too thrilled that the Education Secretary remembers it as a struggling backwater with a single bright star – Ms Powell herself.

Nor was she remotely grateful for her passport to Somerville College, Oxford, to read chemistry. She gave it a year and then quit for King’s College, London, citing the elitist atmosphere.

‘Oxford was not for a state school girl from the North doing maths and chemistry. I was like a duck out of water,’ she told the Times Education Supplement.

How on earth did Margaret Thatcher – another northern state school girl who studied chemistry at Somerville – survive when she turned up in 1943?

Ms Powell’s claims are met with snorts of disbelief from other northern state school girls who went through Oxford University at around the same time.

‘Everyone arrived feeling like a duck out of water. Then you just started swimming. There were far more northern girls doing science than Etonians,’ says Miranda, a Mancunian at a neighbouring college who went on to be a successful London lawyer.

Ms Powell, 51, has also complained about her early encounters with ‘mansplaining’ men, though that would not have been an issue at Somerville College.

It did not admit men until the year after she left.

One of the first to arrive there was Sam Gyimah. He might arguably have felt more of a duck out of water than Ms Powell, not only being a man but from an ethnic minority to boot.

He had also come from a state school but had, previously, grown up in Ghana. Mr Gyimah somehow stayed the course, was later elected president of the Oxford Union and, like Ms Powell, went on to be elected to Parliament (he now has a career in finance).

No one could accuse Oxford of being a Right-wing citadel of Tory toffs. After all, it famously refused to give the first female prime minister in British history an honorary degree because of her Conservative credentials.

There are similar holes in Ms Powell’s stories of life growing up in Didsbury, now a byword for bourgeois respectability. Ms Powell recalls it, simply, as ‘Manchester under Thatcher’, a place where schools were ‘starved of resources’. ‘It wasn’t that posh then,’ she has said.

All the residents I talk to acknowledge that Didsbury has been upwardly mobile for years, while the older ones say it was never that bad in the first place.

‘If you wanted a fight, you’d go up to the centre of town. If you wanted a drink, you’d come to Didsbury,’ says retired surveyor Frank O’Brien, recalling the 1980s and ’90s. ‘They used to put up the prices a little bit here to keep the riff-raff out.’

Ms Powell’s first secondary school was Parrs Wood High School, which can’t have been too bad since it also produced fellow Cabinet minister Lisa Nandy. Indeed, it was recently dubbed ‘the new Eton’ by the Manchester Evening News.

Ms Powell hails from impeccable middle-class educational aristocracy. The Times Education Supplement has reported that her mother was a headteacher who led a multi-academy trust, while a grandfather, two aunts and an uncle were also heads (one aunt was awarded the CBE).

She has acknowledged that her father, a social worker, benefited from the ‘social mobility’ of a grammar school education, though she is of course adamantly opposed to grammar schools now.

Ms Powell has joked about her own middle-class credentials. ‘I’ve married a doctor, you know – nothing more middle-class than that!’ she told the BBC (she has two school-age children and an adult stepson).

She is also an ardent fan of Britain’s largest annual jamboree for the middle-classes, telling Vogue that she has attended the Glastonbury Festival 23 times.

Quite how far she is removed from the mean streets of Britain’s inner cities was highlighted by last year’s famously haughty response on the Radio 4 current affairs show Any Questions, when a fellow panellist (from Reform) raised the sexual abuse of young girls by grooming gangs.

‘Oh, we want to blow that little trumpet now, do we?’ Ms Powell retorted. ‘Yeah, OK, let’s get that dog whistle out.’

Following instant Tory and Reform calls for her dismissal from her Cabinet post as Leader of the House, she apologised the next day. Her values, she insists, remain shaped by her working-class roots: ‘My mum is the daughter of Irish immigrants. My dad grew up in a two-up two-down with an outside toilet. I have the ethics and pride that comes through that, being respectful and polite rather than ‘mucky middle class’ as I call it – the posher you are the less you bother.’

So how will she compare to her predecessor, Bridget Phillipson, the dour scourge of the independent sector? There seems little sign of ideological change.

The woman who proudly wore a ‘Never Kissed A Tory’ T-shirt to Manchester’s 2022 Pride parade has previously said that she thinks private schools should not just have VAT slapped on them but should lose any charitable status altogether.

Nor are the omens too hot for literacy standards. Her Tory opponents wasted no time highlighting the howlers in her first social media post in the new job: ‘Absolutely thrilled the [sic] be appointed Education Secretary.’

In talking down her past, she is of course loyally echoing Andy Burnham’s mantra that northern Britain has been wronged by ‘Westminster” South’. It is Ms Powell’s story and if she prefers to be seen as a victim rather than an inspirational Mancunian success, so be it.

But a batsqueak of gratitude to all those teachers who set her on her way would not go amiss.

Heartbreaking Scam: Newberry Woman Arrested for Exploiting Tragedy, Defrauding Colleagues of $16K

0

By Staff Report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – In a shocking turn of events, 43-year-old Theresa Ann Surratt from Newberry was apprehended after fabricating a tragic story to swindle $16,000 from her colleagues. She falsely claimed that her daughter and grandson perished in a car accident.

The investigation was launched when an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to a complaint filed by one of the duped co-workers. The probe revealed that in late 2024, Surratt had concocted a heart-wrenching narrative, telling employees at Park Meadows Health & Rehabilitation that her family had died in Ohio. She manipulated their sympathies, requesting financial help for travel, funeral arrangements, and emotional support amidst the fabricated calamity.

The deputy noted that several co-workers were convinced by Surratt’s texts, which included vivid descriptions of the supposed tragedy and photos of her family and the crash site. Succumbing to her deception, from November 28, 2004, to January 3, 2025, generous colleagues contributed over $16,000 to Surratt.

The fraud unraveled when one skeptical co-worker decided to investigate further. After finding an obituary for Surratt’s daughter, they stumbled upon her active social media account, where she was visibly alive, sharing photos of herself and her son. Confronted by the truth, the co-worker reached out to Surratt’s daughter, discovering the entire story was fabricated.

The deputy contacted the daughter, who confirmed that there had been no fatal crash; the detective also discovered that the photos were from a different crash in 2023 in Utah. Business records from the obituary website reportedly showed that Surratt had submitted the obituary.

Surratt has been charged with engaging in a scheme to defraud victims of less than $20,000 and unlawful use of a two-way communications device. Surratt has no local criminal history, and Judge Robert Groeb set bail at $25,000 in the arrest warrant.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Mystery Solved: Cause of Death Uncovered for Missing Big Sur Hiker Found on Isolated Trail

0

Earlier this year, a hiker’s body was discovered in the untamed expanse of Big Sur, California. The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office has now revealed that she succumbed to natural causes, intricately linked to alcohol withdrawal.

Identified as 37-year-old Joanna Ruth Shields, her demise was officially attributed to “probable alcohol withdrawal seizures triggered by a chronic alcohol use disorder,” according to the sheriff’s statement.

The tragic incident unfolded on April 9 when Shields’ lifeless body was uncovered near Sykes Hot Springs along Pine Ridge Trail in Los Padres National Forest. Initially, there was a cloud of suspicion due to the mystery surrounding her death, amplified by reports from fellow hikers noting a head wound and unusual neck markings.

On following investigation, authorities stated they found no indications pointing to foul play in Shields’ untimely death.

She was found lying near a shallow creek wearing a black sports bra, with her clothing, sandals and a water bottle nearby, according to authorities.

An autopsy determined a laceration above her left eye was superficial and did not contribute to her death.

Investigators also concluded the marks on her neck were caused by postmortem insect activity and found no evidence of strangulation.

“Investigators found no evidence during the forensic examination or throughout the investigation to indicate that Ms. Shields was the victim of a crime,” the coroner’s report states.

News Media previously reported that witnesses who discovered Shields’ body told local media they encountered a man who identified himself as her friend and said he had found her after the pair became separated on the trail.

At the time, Monterey County Sheriff’s Office Cmdr. Andres Rosas urged the public not to jump to conclusions, saying investigators were working to determine the cause of death and that everyone at the scene had cooperated.

The coroner’s report also states Shields had a history of bipolar disorder and alcohol use disorder. Family members told investigators her mental health declined in the months before her death after she stopped taking prescribed psychiatric medication. Her sister also told investigators Shields had previously experienced alcohol withdrawal seizures before becoming sober.

Monterey County Sheriff-Coroner Tina Nieto said she hopes the findings provide answers for Shields’ loved ones.

“Our thoughts and prayers remain with Joanna’s family and loved ones,” Nieto said. “We hope these findings provide them with some measure of peace and closure after several difficult months.”

Chelsea’s Bold Moves: Yan Diomande Talks, Villa’s Austin MacPhee Raid & Brentford Targets West Ham Talent in Transfer Shocker

0

It’s that exciting time once more—the transfer window has flung open its doors until September 1, signaling a frenetic period as clubs scramble to secure key players ahead of the next season.

Let’s dive into today’s breaking news, brought to you by Simon Jones and the very tuned-in Daily Mail Sport team…

Real in talks over Diomande

In a bold move, Real Madrid has opened discussions with RB Leipzig with hopes of sealing a deal for Yan Diomande.

Real Madrid is now actively pursuing the sought-after RB Leipzig forward, intensifying the competitive chase.

Although Leipzig asserts that Diomande is not on the market, the prospect of a £110 million offer might challenge their stance.

Palace eye Le Guen

Crystal Palace have added Raphael Le Guen to their list of options for a new centre back. The 19-year-old plays for Brest in France.

Palace have had bids rejected for Augsburg’s Chrislain Matsima and have asked about Trabzonspor’s Chibuike Nwaiwu, who is the subject of offers from Fulham.

Bees buzz around Diouf with Hammers keen to sell

Brentford have held initial talks over a move for West Ham wing-back El Hadji Malick Diouf.

The Senegal international joined from Slavia Prague for £19million and endured an indifferent season.

The Hammers are keen to sell the 20-year-old and expect further enquiries.

Forest in the market for a safe Beto

Nottingham Forest are weighing up a move for Everton striker Beto.

The Guinea-Bissau international is one of a number of options being considered as Forest look to add a forward for Oliver Glasner.

The 28-year-old scored 10 goals last season as he alternated up front with Thierno Barry, who has attracted interest from RB Leipzig.

Everton would not want to sell without having a replacement in first, while David Moyes wants to bolster his attack regardless.

Chelsea go back to Villa for set-piece coach MacPhee

Chelsea are raiding Aston Villa once again to sign up set-piece coach Austin MacPhee.

The 46-year-old who has also been working with Portugal’s national squad, has been at Villa for five years.

He was first given responsibility for set pieces by Northern Ireland national team coach Michael O’Neill and the team scored 11 goals from set pieces in 10 games to qualify for Euro 2016.

He said his farewells to Villa staff today and will link up with the likes of Morgan Rogers once again at Stamford Bridge after Rogers’ £117m move this week.

Moyes pays tribute to Gana Gueye as midfielder leaves Everton for big-money Saudi deal

Idrissa Gana Gueye is poised to take up a lucrative offer to play in Saudi Arabia.

The 36-year-old has now abandoned talks over a new contract with Everton, who confirmed his exit tonight, and as a free agent is in the throes of finalising terms to move to the Saudi Pro League, joining Al-Diriyah.

The Senegal international also had interest from ambitious French side Le Havre but key to his decision apart from the financial gain is a desire to bring up his children in a Muslim country.

Gueye was popular figure at Everton but turns 37 in September.

David Moyes was willing to offer a new contract but wants more energy in his midfield. He has signed Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough and wants two more for his engine room.

As Everton confirmed Gueye’s exit Moyes said: ‘His leadership qualities in and around the dressing room proved crucial, particularly in our final season at Goodison. His commitment to the club over many years was exceptional.

‘Everyone connected to Everton thanks Gana – he will always be welcome at the club – and we wish him and his family all the very best for the future.’

Morita’s a Tiger as Hull get their man

Hull City have confirmed the signing of defensive midfielder Hidemasa Morita on a free transfer.

The 31-year-old joins on a two-year deal which includes an option for a third. Morita left Sporting Lisbon as a free agent earlier this summer and had been talks with Leeds United and Ipswich Town.

Garner’s a no-go as Everton dig in their heels

Everton insist James Garner is not for sale despite mooted interest from Premier League rivals.

The midfielder signed a new contract last season and was rewarded for his form with a call-up to Thomas Tuchel’s England squad.

Aston Villa, Newcastle United and his former club Manchester United have all been linked in recent months but Everton have no desire to sell with the 25-year-old a key part of David Moyes’s plans.

Como set to increase bid for Chalobah

Como are expected to hold talks with Chelsea tomorrow over an improved offer for defender Trevoh Chalobah.

The England centre back is keen on making the move and the Italians – managed by former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas – have indicated they would increase their bid closer to Chelsea’s valuation of £35million including add ons.

Como have so far proposed £25m.

Lacroix closes in on £55m Chelsea move

Maxence Lacroix is undergoing his medical at Chelsea today after the Blues agreed a deal for the Crystal Palace defender worth around £55m on Thursday.

As Daily Mail Sport reported earlier this week, talks accelerated over a meeting in New York at the weekend.

Chelsea co-owner Behdad Eghbali and Palace chairman Steve Parish, who were in New York for the World Cup final, met at the Aman Hotel near Central Park on Sunday.

Daily Mail Sport revealed Chelsea had revisited their interest in the 26-year-old early this summer.

The France international cost Palace £18m from Wolfsburg but has been an outstanding performer in the Premier League and Europe.

Villa in talks to sign Jackson

Aston Villa remain in discussions over a move for Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson.

The clubs have already agreed a loan with obligation deal for Alejandro Garnacho to join Villa. That followed the £117m sale of Morgan Rogers.

The structure of the deals are key as Chelsea and Villa are among those that need to comply with Uefa’s squad cost ratio regulations and their 2025 settlement agreements.

Rogers’ £117m move will provide Villa with a significant accounting profit, potentially over £80m after Middlesbrough’s sell-on clause and the remaining book value of his 2024 signing are deducted.

But if Chelsea had sold Garnacho to Villa as part of the same transaction, Uefa would treat it as a swap deal, impinging on profit margin. Even if Garnacho left on deadline day September 1, that is fewer than the guideline of 45 days, making it harder to argue they are not connected.

A loan with an obligation to buy could still be regarded as part of a swap deal because the ‘purchase’ has been agreed within 45 days of Rogers’ transfer but the conditions give Villa control of when that deal is completed and potential room for manoeuvre with Uefa regulators.

Summerville’s Saudi switch confirmed

Al-Hilal have confirmed the signing of winger Crysencio Summerville from West Ham in a deal worth up to £60million.

The 24-year-old, who also had an offer from Roma, had a medical in Amsterdam on Tuesday.

Al Hilal will pay an initial fee of £55m, plus £5m in potential add-ons.

Magpies get their man

Aladji Bamba will wear the number eight shirt vacated by Sandro Tonali, after completing his £30million move to Newcastle United.

Bamba arrived from Monaco on Thursday and Newcastle will pay a further £5.5m in add-ons.

The 20-year-old has signed a five-year contract and manager Eddie Howe said: ‘He’s another exciting, young signing who we’re really looking forward to working with.

‘Aladji adds depth and a range of qualities to our midfield options, with a huge potential for growth.

‘His development since breaking through at Monaco has been really impressive and something we believe we can help him build on.

‘He operates in a deeper role but has the ability to contribute all over the pitch, which he demonstrated in both Ligue Un and the Champions League last season.’

Meanwhile, Newcastle say they have still to receive a formal offer from Arsenal for Bruno Guimaraes.

No Blues interest in Bruno

Chelsea are not expected to pursue a move for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.

There had been suggestions that the West London club were interested in the Brazilian international, but Chelsea sources categorically refute this.

Daily Mail Sport understands that Chelsea have not, at any point, enquired about Guimaraes and sources maintain they have no plans to.

Ex-Burnley star catching Tigers’ interest

Hull City are interested in Burnley midfielder Florentino Luis.

The Portuguese was on loan from Benfica last season, but Burnley have just made that move permanent for £20million as their obligation from the original deal.

However, Burnley are also understood to be willing to sell the 26-year-old to recoup funds and salary while they are in the Championship.

Boro target World Cup star

Middlesbrough are in talks to sign USA midfielder Sebastian Berhalter from Vancouver Whitecaps.

Boro are paying £900,000 for the 25-year-old who has 18 caps and played in all of the USA’s World Cup games.

The deal includes a further £600,000 in add-ons.

Berhalter was born in London where his father Gregg, a former USA coach, was a player at Crystal Palace.

Boro remain in talks for left-back Max Arfsten from Columbus Crew also.

“Girl, you are the type of woman that I want my daughter looking up too. Smart, driven, kind, beautiful!!!” a fifth TikToker added. “Pay no mind to the ones who enjoy tearing down others to make themselves feel better!!”

Kostek, who is a former New England Patriots cheerleader, has never been shy about speaking her mind and standing up for herself.

In fact, Kostek revealed during a June 2025 episode of the Honestly Cavallari: The Headline Tour during Kristin Cavallari’s stop in Boston that she didn’t always feel welcome among the NFL WAGs when dating boyfriend Rob Gronkowski.

Rob Gronkowski Describes His Perfect Day With Girlfriend Camille Kostek

Kevin Mazur/Getty Images Since officially retiring from the NFL in June 2022, Rob Gronkowski is still figuring out what work-life balance looks like in a post-football world.  Gronkowski, 35, who now works as an analyst for Fox Sports after 11 seasons with the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, still keeps himself remarkably busy […]

“I felt like I was seen as a lesser than girlfriend because I didn’t have a ring on my finger,” Kostek told Cavallari, who was previously married to retired NFL quarterback Jay Cutler. “But you want to know what’s so interesting about that? The woman that’s coming to mind [who] judged me the most, she’s divorced.”

Kostek began dating Gronkowski, 37, in 2015 after meeting when she was a cheerleader for the Patriots and he played tight end for the team. (The couple didn’t go public until after she left the squad, due to rules between cheerleaders and football players.)

While Kostek didn’t get the warmest of welcomes from some of the Patriots players’ wives, she said that Tom Brady’s ex-wife Gisele Bündchen was always sweet and friendly.

Rob Gronkowski Calls Travis Kelce and Taylor Swifts Wedding Top Notch Describes Dance Floor

To no one’s surprise, Rob Gronkowski was the life of the party at Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s wedding.  “It was top-notch. Hats off to Taylor and Trav,” Gronkowski, 37, said Thursday, July 9, on Tubi’s The Other Football. “The dance floor, that’s the one thing, it was popping. It was popping.” Gronkowski’s cohost, NFL […]

“Honestly, what’s so special about Gisele is when we would cross paths, she would embrace me and talk to me like we’ve known each other forever,” she said during the reality special. “I only have great things to say about her.”

Bündchen, 46, who divorced Brady, 48, in 2022 after 13 years of marriage, isn’t the only famous WAGs member that Kostek gets along with.

Kostek and Gronkowski were among the A-list guests in attendance at Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce’s July 3 nuptials at Madison Square Garden.

Kostek told People earlier this month that Swift, 36, looked like “a real-life princess” at the wedding.

Vince Carter Explains Why LeBron James Joining the 76ers Could Be Unfair

Vince Carter believes that the Philadelphia 76ers will become unstoppable now that LeBron James is joining their ranks.

LeBron James and the Philadelphia 76ers reached an agreement on Friday for a two-year deal under the NBA’s veteran minimum. This marks the culmination of a significant revamp to the Sixers’ roster this offseason.

“That’s cheating,” remarked Carter on the eve of LeBron’s addition to the 76ers. He shared this thought on his show, “Cousins with Vince Carter & Tracy McGrady.”

Carter elaborated on his initial statement, expressing that it would be “cheating” for James to join Philadelphia since he doesn’t have to put in much effort to maintain his dominance.

Carter noted that the 76ers are loaded on a roster that will include Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid, Jaylen Brown and V.J. Edgecombe.

Philadelphia also added Labaron Philon Jr. at No. 22 overall in the draft while also bringing in Dean Wade, Anfernee Simons, and former Knicks center Ariel Hukporti.

The 76ers are also expected to bring back Adem Bona, Dominick Barlow, Dalen Terry, Johni Broome and Justin Edwards, who will provide depth on the roster.

Instead of asking the 41-year-old James to carry a franchise, Philadelphia can deploy him alongside Embiid, Brown, Maxey and Edgecombe.

James averaged 20.9 points, 7.2 assists and 6.1 rebounds last season with the Lakers, proving he’s still an All-Star-caliber player in production, not just in name.

James was also the Lakers’ most effective player in the playoffs last season, averaging 23.2 points, 7.3 assists and 6.7 rebounds, leading Los Angeles to a Round 2 appearance, where they were without Luka Doncic and had Austin Reaves for six of 10 games.

The Sixers now feature one of the NBA’s deepest collections of proven talent, with a former MVP center in Embiid, one of the league’s fastest young guards in Maxey, an All-NBA-caliber wing in Brown and arguably the greatest player in league history in James.

The 76ers have immediately been bet up to being one of the favorites in the Eastern Conference, along with the Knicks.

Although the 76ers will likely not have James and Embiid for portions of the season due to expected injury management and possible actual ailments, given James’ age and Embiid’s history.

James missed 22 games last season, while Embiid hasn’t played at least 40 regular-season games since 2022-23 and has often faced injuries during the playoffs, as he did this past spring.
