Christopher Nolan’s Untold Odyssey: What He Didn’t Film

0

Christopher Nolan’s cinematic rendition of “The Odyssey” has been heralded as a work of art, a testament to his filmmaking prowess. Celebrated for its stunning cinematography, compelling performances, and evocative score, the film has captivated audiences and dominated the box office. However, even the most skillful adaptation is not immune to critique. Despite Nolan’s intricate depiction derived from the ancient epic, certain key elements from the original text were either modified or omitted from his retelling.

Notably absent from Nolan’s interpretation is the character of Nausicaä, the compassionate Phaeacian princess. In Homer’s epic, Odysseus finds himself washed ashore in Phaeacia, a mythical realm characterized by eternal sunshine. Here, he encounters Nausicaä, who extends her kindness and guides him to her parents, King Alcinous and Queen Arete, paving the way for his acceptance into their court. This setting becomes the backdrop for Odysseus to recount his odyssey to the captivated Phaeacians, transforming into a central narrative thread within the poem.

Nolan’s Odyssey skips right over the Phaeacians

Responding to Odysseus’s enthralling stories, King Alcinous rewards his guest with lavish gifts and commands his people to ferry him back to Ithaca. The Phaeacian ships, known for their staggering craftsmanship, are imbued with magic, famously self-navigating without requiring a helmsman.

In the original poem, Odysseus’s journey home is marked by an enchanting sequence where he falls asleep, only to awaken in Ithaca with no recollection of his surroundings—a moment elegantly captured by Nolan. Meanwhile, a wrathful Poseidon, incensed by the Phaeacians’ aid to Odysseus, enacts revenge by converting their ships and sailors into stone, serving as an eternal warning against defiance.

Nolan’s decision to exclude Nausicaä and the Phaeacians from his adaptation is arguably strategic. Instead, he chooses to focus on the interactions between Odysseus, played by Matt Damon, and the immortal Calypso, portrayed by Charlize Theron. This narrative choice condenses the story, keeping the film’s runtime manageable at just under three hours. Though the film does justice to much of the epic, the omission of Nausicaä and Alcinous is a loss to the richness of the original tale, leaving viewers longing for the imaginative spectacle of their mythical ships.

Tragic Loss: Former Super Bowl Champion Jordan Devey Passes Away at 38

Tragedy has struck the sports world as former NFL star and Super Bowl victor, Jordan Devey, has died by suicide at the age of 38. His family confirmed the heartbreaking news, sending ripples of sorrow across his fans and fellow athletes.

In a poignant Instagram tribute shared on Thursday night, his wife, Lindsey, broke the news. The message came on a particularly significant day, marking what would have been their 15th wedding anniversary.

“Within the walls of our home and throughout our hearts, we have cherished countless memories, celebrated joys, endured struggles, and reveled in triumphs,” Lindsey expressed, her words accompanying cherished snapshots of the couple.

“Together, we brought four wonderful children into this world, each inheriting your eyes, freckles, and boundless compassion. You were our hero, and we feel an indescribable void in your absence. We love you. We miss you. In your last words to me, you promised, ‘we’ll talk soon.'” she continued.

Further confirming the news, a GoFundMe campaign has been set up on behalf of the Devey family. It reveals that Devey died by suicide, leaving a profound loss for his wife and their four young children.

‘Tragically, Jordan took his own life, leaving his family to navigate an incredibly difficult and heartbreaking time,’ the page reads.

‘As they face overwhelming emotional and financial challenges, including mounting medical expenses, the community is coming together to support Lindsey and their children.’

Following his playing career, Devey transitioned into coaching, most recently serving as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Eagle High School in Idaho.

Community members remembered Devey as a devoted mentor and faithful volunteer who spent countless hours coaching youth sports and serving in his local church.

He was deeply loved by his players at Eagle High, who saw the former NFL lineman as a trusted mentor, role model and friend.

The fundraiser, which set a goal of $200,000 to assist the family with immediate expenses, highlighted Devey’s deep roots and dedication to his community.

‘Jordan Devey was a cherished member of the Eagle community, known for his unwavering dedication to serving others,’ the page noted, adding that he spent ‘countless hours volunteering as a coach’ and serving in his local church.

Devey, who went undrafted out of Memphis in 2013, spent eight seasons in the NFL, playing for the Baltimore Ravens, New England Patriots, San Francisco 49ers, Kansas City Chiefs, Oakland Raiders and Buffalo Bills before retiring in 2021.

Over the course of his professional career, he appeared in 44 regular-season games and made 21 starts across stints with the Patriots, 49ers, Chiefs and Raiders.

Before reaching the NFL, Devey took a remarkably unconventional path to professional sports, playing tuba in his high school marching band after Osgood-Schlatter disease prevented him from playing high school football.

He later served a two-year mission in Costa Rica for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints before walking on at Snow College and eventually transferring to Memphis, where he earned second-team All-C-USA honors.

He earned a Super Bowl ring with the Patriots during the 2014 season, appearing in six regular-season games during New England’s championship run.

Shocking Discovery: Human Remains Found in Freezer While Cleaning Loved One’s Home

0

In Alaska, a family sifting through a departed relative’s belongings stumbled upon a startling find: human remains.

On July 19, authorities were alerted when a freezer containing these remains was uncovered in a locked shed on a property situated along Glacier Highway. The grim discovery was made during an estate clean-up following the loss of a family member, as detailed in a press release from the Juneau Police Department.

The authorities suspect the remains might be those of a male family member, although final identification awaits the State Medical Examiner’s confirmation. The duration these remains lingered in the freezer remains a mystery.

Curiously, investigators noted there was never a missing persons report lodged with the Juneau Police Department related to this individual.

Deputy Police Chief Krag Campbell shared with the Juneau Independent that the deceased is believed to be between 50 and 80 years old. There were no visible signs of trauma such as stab or gunshot wounds, but it is premature to rule out foul play.

“The biggest kind of unknown is ‘When did they get put in the freezer?’” Campbell told Alaska Public Media. “That’s going to help pinpoint our investigation and do that as well as collecting evidence to see who might have done this.”

He added, “I can only speak for Juneau, but [this is] very unusual, not something I’ve seen or heard of before.”

However, there is no known threat to the public.

“Anytime we have somebody missing, someone’s immediately jumping to ‘there’s a serial killer on the loose,’” Campbell told the Juneau Independent. “We’re really just trying to say this probably seems isolated based off of a family member to the person who found them in the home where they’re associated with. It’s not like some random person is in the fridge. We’re trying to indicate it’s isolated to this one core event and this one family.”

A spokesperson for the Juneau Police Department and the Alaska State Medical Examiner’s Office did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Oxygen.

NYC Stabbing Suspect Charged Amid Controversial Court Outburst

A man has been charged with attempted murder following a brutal stabbing spree on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, reportedly shouting “Allahu Akbar” during the incident. The New York Police Department stated that one of the charges includes a hate crime related to one victim.

Raul Morales, 51, made a dramatic appearance during his perp walk on Friday afternoon, shouting “Justice for the Romero family” at gathered reporters. He referred to a woman by name and promised her story would not be forgotten.

According to the NYPD, Morales is facing several charges—including attempted murder, assault, and possession of a weapon—stemming from an attack on a 57-year-old Asian man.

In a separate assault on a 50-year-old Jewish man, Morales has been accused of attempted murder and assault as hate crimes, along with additional charges of assault and criminal weapon possession.

Police said the stabbings appeared to be separate attacks that happened near each other Thursday afternoon on the Upper West Side. Authorities said there was no known connection between Morales and either of the two victims.

According to police, Morales allegedly yelled “Allahu Akbar” during the attacks. The NYPD is investigating whether bias played a role.

Both victims were taken to a hospital in stable condition. Police have said initial findings suggest mental health may have been a factor in the attacks, though Morales had no known mental health history with the NYPD.

Lindsay Clancy’s Ex Weds NYC Fertility Specialist

0

Lindsay Clancy, the Massachusetts mother found guilty of the tragic murder of her children, has an ex-husband who has chosen to restart his life in the bustling streets of New York City. Remarkably, he has found a new beginning with another partner, tying the knot with a doctor specializing in fertility care.

Just four months after the heart-wrenching incident where Patrick Clancy discovered the lifeless bodies of his children, strangled by their mother in their Duxbury home, he made a significant move to Manhattan, as revealed by public records obtained by The Post.

Now residing in a chic high-rise in Midtown Manhattan, the 38-year-old Microsoft professional shares this new chapter of his life with Dr. Rachel Danis, his newfound love.

Dr. Danis, who is 37, brings her expertise as a reproductive endocrinologist and infertility specialist to a prominent clinic in New York City, as detailed in her professional biography.

Social media offers a glimpse into their joyous journey together, filled with heartwarming snapshots. The couple is seen enjoying various moments including a shared fitness class at Barry’s and beaming with happiness while posing at the NYC Marathon in the cheerful autumn of 2025.

The duo tied the knot in April this year during an intimate ceremony at the Ladies Pavilion in Central Park, followed by a celebration with friends and family at the nearby restaurant Sarabeth’s, the Daily Mail reported.

“Pat has obviously gone through an incredible trauma, and Rachel is a nurturing person by nature,” an unidentified friend of the couple told the outlet.

“She is upbeat, smiling, vivacious and full of energy. It’s fitting that she helps create life in the face of this tragedy,” the pal added, referring to Danis’ job.

Danis also serves as an assistant clinical professor in the Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Science Department at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

“Rachel has a heart of gold…If she can take a guy and try to heal him, that’s what she would do,” the friend continued, and praised Patrick for refusing to let his children’s murders define the rest of his life.

“A lot of people would recoil and just…be a shadow of their former self and never move on. So I admire this guy – I really do,” he said.

Despite the killings and their divorce, Patrick has remained publicly supportive of his ex-wife – and even urged others to forgive her unthinkable crime.

“I wasn’t married to a monster – I was married to someone who got sick,” he told the New Yorker in October 2024.

As Clancy’s triple-murder trial gets underway in Plymouth County, Patrick is expected to appear as the first witness to take the stand Monday.

He is going to testify for the prosecution first, though he’s also on the defense team’s witness list, according to the Boston Globe.

The slain kids’ father will likely face questions about his marriage with Clancy, their home life and his perception of his then-wife’s mental state leading up to the grisly killings, as well as his version of events that fateful day, the outlet reported.

Clancy’s attorney, Kevin Reddington, will then have the opportunity to cross-examine Patrick and bring up points that are essential to the defense’s insanity argument, including the mom’s repeated efforts to get help for postpartum psychosis.

The trial’s outcome will hinge on whether jurors believe the former nurse was suffering from a psychiatric episode, worsened by a cocktail of antipsychotic medications, when she strangled the children to death, experts previously told The Post.

Clancy is accused of using exercise bands to fatally strangle her kids in the basement of the family’s home before becoming paralyzed from the waist down from the botched bid to kill herself.

Prosecutors are expected to argue that the mother wasn’t suffering a mental break – rather, that she was lucid enough to methodically plan how to get her then-husband out of the house that day so she could be alone with their children: Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and 8-month-old Callan.

Patrick filed a last-minute motion last week seeking to prevent the public from hearing his 911 call recording, as well as seeing any “pre-incident,” crime scene or autopsy photographs of the three kids, during the trial, according to court papers.

He also requested that the display of any clothing that once belonged to his children be restricted in the courtroom.

Judge Sullivan reportedly granted the motion Friday, ordering media not to record, display, reproduce, distribute or otherwise disseminate the 911 call and autopsy photos.

However, the evidence will be shown to everyone present in the courtroom – and reporters are allowed to discuss its contents, WCVB reported.

Danis and Patrick’s attorney did not respond to requests for comment.

Court Shields Crucial Evidence in Heartbreaking Triple-Murder Trial of Mom Lindsay Clancy

0

In Massachusetts, a judge has taken a significant step by partly approving a bereaved father’s plea to protect particularly graphic evidence expected in the murder trial of his former wife. The woman stands accused of the chilling crime of strangling their young children within the sanctity of their home.

On Friday, Plymouth Superior Court Judge William Sullivan decreed that the incendiary 911 call made by Patrick Clancy, along with harrowing autopsy photos of their young children—5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan—cannot be recorded, displayed, reproduced, or shared by the media or the public.

Despite these restrictions, this evidence will still be introduced to the jurors during Lindsay Clancy’s trial, as court proceedings begin. Opening statements are set to launch the trial’s public phase on Monday.

Although journalists are permitted to report on the content heard or observed in the courtroom, they are explicitly prohibited from broadcasting or publishing the recordings or images themselves, in accordance with the judge’s concise two-page ruling.

Patrick Clancy had asked Sullivan to restrict the public and media’s ability to record, broadcast or distribute evidence, including the 911 call, family and crime-scene photographs, autopsy images and the clothing the children were wearing.

Sullivan’s order specifically bars the reproduction or dissemination of the 911 recording and autopsy photographs. It does not prevent prosecutors or the defense from introducing the evidence at trial.

Sullivan wrote that the release or reproduction of the material would create a “substantial likelihood of harm” or another harmful consequence for Patrick Clancy and the children’s family.

Sullivan issued the ruling after hearing arguments from attorneys representing Patrick Clancy, prosecutors and Lindsay Clancy. Boston Globe Media Partners also filed a response opposing aspects of the request, according to the order.

Patrick Clancy’s 911 call is expected to provide jurors with an account of what he encountered after returning to the family’s home on Jan. 24, 2023, when the children were found unresponsive.

Lindsay Clancy is charged with murder in the January 2023 deaths of her three children inside their Duxbury, Massachusetts home.

Prosecutors allege Clancy strangled the children inside the family’s home before attempting to take her own life. Her attorneys have argued that she was suffering from severe mental illness and postpartum psychosis at the time.

A jury of 18 people — 12 women and six men — was seated Thursday after several days of questioning prospective jurors about their knowledge of the case and whether they could remain impartial.

Opening statements are scheduled for Monday in Plymouth Superior Court.

How Trump Can Disable Iran’s Crucial Pickaxe Nuclear Site

0

Nestled beneath the imposing landscape of Pickaxe Mountain, Iran has constructed what seems to be an impregnable nuclear fortress, one that Tehran believes even the United States cannot dismantle. However, President Donald Trump is not willing to let that confidence last another week.

Fortunately, he has several strategies at his disposal.

For years, Tehran has adhered to a familiar approach, clandestinely developing underground nuclear facilities that bolster its ambitions to enhance its nuclear capabilities.

Pickaxe Mountain is emerging as the most recent and possibly the most perilous of these sites.

In 2020, Iran’s head of nuclear operations cautioned that the site was undergoing excavation for the purpose of constructing “a more modern, vaster, and inclusive building,” with operations running round the clock to relocate all critical activities deep within the mountain’s core.

Since then, Iran has spent six years carving Pickaxe into what it hopes will be an indestructible nuclear sanctuary.

This is more than double the time it spent secretly building its enrichment plants at Fordow and Natanz before being caught.

Both those sites were already in “an advanced stage of construction” when inspections occurred.

Inspectors still have never been to Pickaxe, and it appears unlikely they ever will.

Satellite imagery suggests the facility may well be large enough to reconstitute many, possibly all, of Iran’s core nuclear activities: centrifuge storage and production, uranium enrichment and stockpiling and even weaponization.

This is helped by Iran’s technological advances in recent years, which minimize its need for floor space, and time, to dash for a bomb.

A recent report says Iran might now be moving enrichment centrifuges to Pickaxe; it’s been observed working on the site in recent months.

Trump himself warned this year that Iran was undertaking new activities at a site “protected by granite.”

Yet Pickaxe went untouched in Operations Midnight Hammer last year and Epic Fury in the spring.

Iran is banking on the site being impenetrable in a way that its other subterranean sites were not.

Initial estimates suggested it could be even further underground than Fordow, Iran’s most sensitive and deepest-buried enrichment plant at the time it was struck in Midnight Hammer.

Hence Iran’s refusal to negotiate over the site. No new nuclear deal will bring to light, let alone shut down, this key node in the regime’s undimmed nuclear ambitions.

Every month Pickaxe remains intact gives Tehran more time to move equipment, rebuild enrichment capacity and shorten the path back to a nuclear weapon.

The president recognizes the urgency: “That’s where the action is. We’ll be hitting that area pretty soon and very heavily.”

Now he needs to follow through. Targeting it would shatter Tehran’s belief that one mountain can preserve its nuclear ambitions from American airpower.

Midnight Hammer showed that America’s most powerful Massive Ordnance Penetrator bunker busters could severely damage even a deeply buried facility like Fordow.

These weapons relied on smart tactics, precise targeting and fuses that enabled these weapons to drill sequentially through weak points, like ventilation shafts, before detonating to full effect.

That same operation also showed that blocking access to a site can be nearly as effective as burrowing into it.

With Iran’s highly enriched uranium sitting at Isfahan, in storage tunnels potentially beyond reach of bunker busters, salvos of low-flying Tomahawk cruise missiles were used to collapse the entrances and entrap the “nuclear dust” instead.

In the more than a year since these attacks, Iran has poked around but not reentered the site.

Striking Pickaxe could combine elements of what worked best in last summer’s operation, seeking both to maximize direct damage and minimize Iran’s ability to access it afterward.

The site was designed, and construction started, long before Midnight Hammer revealed innovations enabling the MOPs to create and exploit new structural vulnerabilities.

This would entail a mix of bunker busters, cruise missiles and possibly other munitions to attack Pickaxe at multiple points, and from multiple angles.

The facility’s ventilation shafts and tunnel entrances are key. Israeli airstrikes on other Iranian nuclear sites show that disabling their power supplies can add to the effectiveness.

What comes after the strikes would be equally important. Working with Israel and its incredible intelligence capabilities, the United States would need to monitor the site closely and make clear it will conduct follow-on attacks if Iran tries to access it.

Trump has already upended many of Iran’s beliefs about what American presidents will or won’t do.

Now he can confound the expectation that its nuclear program can survive US military action.

Trump Targets Farmers: New Lettuce Tariffs Proposed to Combat Worsening Parasite Issue

0

Former President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning about the potential introduction of tariffs following a widespread outbreak of a parasite associated with ‘explosive diarrhea,’ which may be linked to Mexican lettuce.

During a White House press event, Trump asserted, “I believe the solution is implementing significant tariffs on Mexico because of this lettuce issue.”

His comments came in response to a surge in cyclosporiasis cases, now numbering 11,000 across 41 states, as health authorities urgently search for the source.

In addition, Trump renewed his threat of imposing heavy tariffs on Canada due to wildfires that have engulfed much of the northern United States in a haze of toxic smoke.

Public health experts have linked the outbreak of this foodborne parasite, which thrives in food or water contaminated with human waste, to shredded iceberg lettuce from Taylor Farms, distributed to Taco Bell locations in nine states.

Illinois, Kansas, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania are also now suggested to be affected, alongside Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and West Virginia.

Tests on lettuce from Taylor Farms’ manufacturing facility in Mexico have returned a false positive, however, a voluntary recall of the products is still in place.

The business temporarily closed its Central Mexico site on Thursday.

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr claimed on Tuesday that the outbreak was ‘under control.’

The FDA said Wednesday it was tracking another outbreak of the parasite that has sickened 72 people, in a separate cluster from the one sickening thousands and potentially linked to lettuce.

The agency revealed the number of cases but gave no further details, including the location of the patients or the potential source of their sickness.

The announcement of a new outbreak of cyclosporiasis suggests that the agency has identified a cluster of cases that are related to a common source.

It does not mean that the cases are unrelated to the main outbreak, but they may have been listed separately as they are believed to have been caused by a separate contaminated item.

Health officials are now recommending people wash their hands and ‘any fresh produce’ thoroughly before preparing food.

As washing is not guaranteed to remove the parasite, they are also advising cooking food to a temperature of at least 158F (70C) to kill the parasite.

Cyclosporiasis spreads when people eat food or drink water that has been contaminated with human feces.

No update was given for Taco Bell's potential role in the outbreak, as the fast food chain's lettuce supplier is Taylor Farms

No update was given for Taco Bell’s potential role in the outbreak, as the fast food chain’s lettuce supplier is Taylor Farms

It is ‘unlikely’ to spread directly from person to person, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), because it takes one to two weeks for the parasite to become infectious after passing into the environment.

Dr Luis Ostrosky, an infectious diseases expert at UTHealth Houston, said: ‘Cyclosporiasis spreads via the fecal-oral route, where fecal particles containing the parasite are passed to the mouth.

‘It typically does not transmit from person to person and does not spread in the way that we see with norovirus or the flu.

‘It takes one to two weeks after the parasite is passed in a bowel movement for it to become infectious, and many days to a few weeks after that exposure for symptoms to appear.’

Overall, the CDC has recorded nearly 11,000 suspected or confirmed cases of the infection this year, the most since 2019, when there was an outbreak linked to basil.

It has confirmed 4,100 cases of the infection and is investigating 7,400 others across 41 states. There have also been 308 hospitalizations, but no deaths have been reported.

Michigan is recording the most cases, at up to 2,100, followed by Illinois, Kentucky and Texas, all recording up to 160 cases.

In the major outbreak, the addition of four more states to the tally suggests the agency is beginning to connect cases in states, allowing them to home in on a potential source.

Caused by the microscopic parasite cyclospora, it is a gastrointestinal illness causing symptoms including watery and explosive diarrhea, cramping and a fever.

Patients become sick within a week of infection, which can make it difficult to identify the source.

Individuals suffering from the parasite may also feel they are getting better before symptoms suddenly become much worse again.

A spokesman for Taylor Farms said on Thursday: ‘We’ve commissioned independent experts to conduct a top-to-bottom review of food safety processes and protocols in our central Mexico facility.

‘We continue to work with health authorities, customers, and independent farming partners to address this issue.’

Taco Bell has removed the lettuce from its supply chain.

A spokesman said last week: ‘Taco Bell has taken precautionary action, and we encourage all relevant restaurants, retailers, and foodservice operators to do the same.’

Revolutionary 8-Minute Bed Routine: Restore Leg Strength Faster Than Gym Machines for Over 60s

0

Still lounging in bed? Here’s an eight-minute leg workout from a strength coach that you can easily tackle before leaving the comfort of your sheets.

>

Some mornings, the easiest way to start building stronger legs is right where you are. A supportive mattress can suffice as your training ground, eliminating the need for complex gym equipment setups, seat adjustments, or a hike to the gym while your legs are still waking up. This convenience makes those critical first minutes of exercise much more approachable.

Unlike gym machines that focus on isolating muscles, this simple routine gets your entire lower body engaged. It’s designed to activate your thighs, hips, and glutes through movements you can continue practicing at home. The secret to success lies in the quality of each repetition, not in speeding through the exercises.

The routine clocks in at just eight minutes, featuring four exercises done for 45 seconds each, with a 15-second rest between them. You’ll complete two rounds of this circuit. If your mattress feels too soft, consider shifting to the floor for more stability as you move through the exercises slowly and deliberately.

How to Do the 8-Minute Bed Routine

Set a timer for 45 seconds of work and 15 seconds of rest. Complete the four exercises below in order, then repeat the circuit for a second round.

  • Bed Sit-to-Stand: 45 seconds.
  • Seated Knee Extension With Pause: 45 seconds.
  • Glute Bridge: 45 seconds.
  • Side-Lying Clamshell: 45 seconds.

Use the 15-second rest to reset your position and move into the next exercise. For the clamshell, work your right side during round one and your left side during round two, or switch halfway through each interval.

5 Chair Exercises That Restore Glute Strength Faster Than Yoga After 60

Bed Sit-to-Stand

Bed sit-to-stands train your thighs and glutes through a movement you use every day. The bed gives you a clear target, while standing up forces your legs to create strength through the floor. Use a bed height that lets you stand without rocking or pushing heavily through your hands.

Muscles Trained: Quadriceps, glutes, hamstrings, core.

How to Do It:

  1. Sit near the edge of a firm bed with your feet flat on the floor.
  2. Set your feet about hip-width apart.
  3. Brace your core and lean your chest slightly forward.
  4. Press through your whole feet to stand tall.
  5. Push your hips back and lower toward the bed.
  6. Tap the bed lightly and repeat.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Work for 45 seconds during the routine.

Best Variations: Higher-bed sit-to-stands, pause sit-to-stands, slow-tempo sit-to-stands.

Form Tip: Stand fully at the top before lowering back down.

Seated Knee Extension With Pause

Seated knee extensions give the front of your thighs direct work. The pause at the top helps the quadriceps tighten fully, which supports knee strength and makes the exercise more effective than swinging the leg. Sit tall and control the lower.

Muscles Trained: Quadriceps, hip flexors, core.

How to Do It:

  1. Sit tall near the edge of the bed.
  2. Keep both feet flat on the floor.
  3. Brace your core and keep your chest lifted.
  4. Extend one knee until your leg is nearly straight.
  5. Pause for 1 second, then tighten your thigh.
  6. Lower your foot with control, alternating sides.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Work for 45 seconds during the routine.

Best Variations: Single-leg knee extensions, longer top holds, slow-tempo knee extensions.

Form Tip: Keep your upper body still so the thigh does the work.

5 Standing Exercises That Shrink Belly Pooch Faster Than Planks After 60

Glute Bridge

Glute bridges target the hips and the backside of the legs in a supported position. Your glutes create the lift, while your hamstrings help control the movement. Pause at the top so each rep feels like strength work, not just a quick lift-and-drop.

Muscles Trained: Glutes, hamstrings, hips, core.

How to Do It:

  1. Lie on your back on a firm bed with your knees bent.
  2. Place your feet flat on the bed about hip-width apart.
  3. Brace your core and press through your heels.
  4. Lift your hips until your glutes tighten.
  5. Pause for one second at the top.
  6. Lower with control and repeat.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Work for 45 seconds per set.

Best Variations: Bridge holds, mini-band glute bridges, slow-tempo glute bridges.

Form Tip: Keep your ribs down so the lift comes from your glutes.

Side-Lying Clamshell

Side-lying clamshells strengthen the outer hips, which help keep the legs steady during walking, climbing stairs, and standing movements. The exercise is small, but it works best when you keep your hips stacked and move with control. Add a light mini band once bodyweight reps feel easy.

Muscles Trained: Glute medius, glute minimus, outer hips, core.

How to Do It:

  1. Lie on your side with your knees bent.
  2. Stack your hips and keep your feet together.
  3. Brace your core lightly.
  4. Open your top knee without rolling your hips backward.
  5. Pause briefly at the top.
  6. Lower with control and repeat.

Recommended Sets and Reps: Work for 45 seconds per set.

Best Variations: Bodyweight clamshells, banded clamshells, slow-tempo clamshells.

Form Tip: Keep your hips stacked so the outer glute does the work.

If You Can Do This Many Squats After 60, Your Leg Strength Is Top-Tier

How to Progress the 8-Minute Bed Routine After 60

Use this routine three to five days per week. Keep the effort moderate if you’re doing it often, and make the reps cleaner before making the workout harder.

  • Start with one round if needed: Four minutes of clean work beats eight minutes of rushed reps. Add the second round once the movements feel steady.
  • Increase tension gradually: Add a mini band to bridges or clamshells, extend the pauses, or slow the lowering phase.
  • Keep the bed firm: A soft mattress can make control harder. Move to the floor for bridges and clamshells if you sink too much.
  • Use support for standing: Place a hand on a nightstand, wall, or sturdy chair during sit-to-stands if balance feels uncertain.
  • Pair it with walking: A short walk later in the day gives your legs a chance to use the strength you’re rebuilding.

Eight focused minutes can give your legs a strong daily signal. Keep the routine simple, make each rep count, and let consistent practice rebuild muscle where it matters most.
