Justice Served: Fire Captain Receives Sentence for Tragic Murder of Fiancée and Her Son

A former fire captain from California has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his fiancée and her young son, a tragic outcome of a disagreement over a firefighter’s portrayal in a movie. At 47, Darin McFarlin will spend the remainder of his life incarcerated, reflecting the severity of his actions during the incident in August 2025.

On Monday, El Dorado County Superior Court Judge Mark A. Ralphs imposed two consecutive life sentences without parole on McFarlin, alongside additional sentences that include a life term, 50 years to life, and another 15 years. These sentences are a direct consequence of the murders of 29-year-old Marissa Divodi-Lessa and her 7-year-old son, Josiah Divodi-Lessa.

Earlier in March, McFarlin had admitted guilt to several charges, including two counts of first-degree murder, attempted murder, and child abuse, as reported by Law&Crime.

During the sentencing, the courtroom was filled with emotional tributes, as seven powerful victim impact statements were shared among the attendees. Among them was a poignant letter from Divodi-Lessa’s surviving 9-year-old child. A slideshow memorializing the victims provided a moving backdrop to the proceedings, underscoring the profound loss felt by their family and friends.

Prosecutors revealed that McFarlin, who served as a captain at Cal Fire and was notably concerned with his public image, committed the murders within the confines of the family home. The violent act stemmed from a heated argument that tragically spiraled out of control.

According to the district attorney’s news release, the killings took place on Aug. 21, 2025.

“The family sat down together to watch a movie about a distinguished, well-respected firefighter who was struggling in his personal life,” the release states. “McFarlin became angry at the portrayal and stormed off to his room. When Divodi-Lessa followed him, an argument took place. McFarlin then strangled her.”

Chief Assistant District Attorney Lisette Suder said the family was watching the faith-based drama movie “Fireproof,” The Sacramento Bee reported. The first half of the film negatively portrays the protagonist, a firefighter, as being selfish in his marriage. The couple was reportedly arguing because McFarlin demanded that Divodi-Lessa acknowledge that the wife in the movie was the one at fault, not the firefighter.

Divodi-Lessa was able to break away and flee the bedroom, telling McFarlin she was going to call the police to report the domestic violence.

“Knowing his career would be over if the incident were reported, McFarlin retrieved a loaded firearm and followed her into the dining area, where he found her on the phone with a family member,” the release continued. “He struck her over the head with the firearm, checked the phone, and then shot her in the head, while her 7-year-old son and 9-year-old daughter were in the room. He then turned the gun on the young boy and fired, killing him.”

The 9-year-old “begged for her life” as McFarlin pointed the weapon at her, but she managed to escape his line of sight and flee through a dog door.

McFarlin fled the scene after placing his phone in airplane mode and was later arrested in Nevada.

Chief Assistant District Attorney Lisette Suder told the court that McFarlin was not a hero despite his profession, emphasizing instead the first responders and investigators who brought the case to justice. District Attorney Vern Pierson called the killings “a horrific and senseless act of violence” that forever changed the victims’ family.

According to court documents cited in that prior coverage, prosecutors alleged McFarlin killed both victims “to prevent testimony,” as they were witnesses to an earlier incident inside the home. Authorities have not publicly detailed what prompted that allegation.

Investigators said deputies responded to the home around 9 p.m. on the night of the shooting and found both victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Divodi-Lessa was pronounced dead at the scene, while her son was transported to a hospital, where he later died.

McFarlin was identified as a suspect and taken into custody hours later.

At the time of the killings, McFarlin was working as a fire captain with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection and was part of a broader firefighting response to a nearby wildfire.

Prosecutors said the sentence ensures McFarlin will never again have the opportunity to harm anyone, while acknowledging the lasting impact on the surviving child and the victims’ loved ones.

Trump Reveals Unusual Reason for Appointing Counterterrorism Official: A Personal Loss

Donald Trump has said he appointed a supporter for a top national security position because his wife died.
Joe Kent headed the National Counterterrorism Centre until his resignation last month in protest of the Iran war.

Since then, he has emerged as a vocal opponent of Trump’s foreign policy initiatives.

This morning, Trump took to Truth Social to post an extensive message labeling Kent as “dumb.”

Trump recalled their meeting at Dover Air Force Base in 2019 when Kent’s wife’s remains were being repatriated to the U.S.

Shannon Mary Kent had been killed by a suicide bomber in Syria when she was serving as a Navy cryptologic technician.

“Her casket was among those brought to Dover, although he remarried rather quickly, in my view,” Trump commented on Truth Social.

He pointed out that in the years afterwards, Joe Kent had run for Congress twice and lost.

“I didn’t know him beyond our brief interaction at Dover, but feeling sympathy for him after his two election defeats, I instructed my team, ‘Hire him for the White House. Offer him a position to uplift his spirits; he’s lost his wife and faced two electoral setbacks,’” Trump explained.

“They did so and, while I rarely saw him, I certainly didn’t expect disloyalty, but that’s what I got.”

Trump described Kent as a sleazebag and a leaker.

He finished his message by writing about the low IQs of conservative commentators Megyn Kelly, Tucker Carlson and Candace Owens.

Kent, a former Army Ranger who served eleven combat tours during the war on terror, was a controversial pick over his far-right political positions.

But he has broken away from Trump sharply.

“President Trump is sending more military power to the Middle East as Iran rejects our initial peace offers—setting the escalation trap,” Kent wrote on X yesterday.

“If we try to impose a maximalist outcome on Iran (zero enrichment, etc.) this war will undoubtedly escalate—costing American lives, billions more dollars, and ultimately eroding our global standing.

“We must learn from our past and recognise when it is time to cut our losses and walk away.

“In the end, working to restore order will strengthen America far more than any military action ever could.”

Kent had served in the Trump administration as the head of the National Counterterrorism Centre, a government group tasked with merging intelligence from multiple agencies to stop terrorism attacks.

“I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran,” he said in his resignation letter.

“Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation.

“It is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.”

50 Million Brace for Severe Tornado Event as Major Storm Impacts 11 States

0

A formidable storm is poised to strike the Midwest, prompting tornado warnings for a vast region stretching from Minnesota down to Texas. This significant weather system threatens to disrupt millions of lives as it barrels through the heartland.

Forecasted to bring a barrage of thunderstorms, the storm also carries the potential for extremely strong wind gusts surpassing 70mph, damaging hail, and the ominous possibility of deadly tornadoes. These severe weather conditions are projected to commence Friday afternoon and could persist into the night, affecting 11 states.

According to AccuWeather meteorologists, the areas facing the highest threat of severe thunderstorms include Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, and Kansas. Residents in these states should brace themselves for potentially hazardous weather.

However, the storm’s reach extends further, with Minnesota, Michigan, Indiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Texas also in its path. This broad swath of risk puts approximately 50 million people in danger of encountering severe thunderstorms and possible tornadoes on Friday.

Major urban centers such as Chicago, Minneapolis, St. Louis, Kansas City, Madison, Wichita, Oklahoma City, and Dallas are among those bracing for the storm’s impact, with severe weather anticipated to arrive in a matter of hours.

Forecasters also predicted that parts of Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois face the highest risk of seeing a tornado form Friday night, as the multi-day storm will spread dangerous weather to even more states in the Northeast over the weekend.

AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Dan Pydynowski said in a statement: ‘People in the path of these storms should stay alert and be ready to act.’

‘Make sure your phone is charged, alerts are on, and your storm shelter or safe place is ready and stocked with emergency supplies. Never drive on flooded roads, especially at night,’ the expert added.

Tornadoes are violently rotating columns of air that swirl down to the ground and usually form during severe thunderstorms called supercells.

They can vary in strength and destructiveness, from weak ones that cause minor damage to roofs, all the way up to powerful monsters that can completely destroy well-built homes, flip cars and uproot trees in seconds.

Approximately three dozen tornadoes have already been reported between Monday and Thursday across the Plains states and Upper Midwest. Large, damaging hail balls and other extreme conditions have been seen as far east as Vermont and New Hampshire.

The week-long storm front has left over 10,000 customers without power in Tennessee after severe thunderstorms swept through Nashville on Thursday.

The extreme conditions have been fueled by a large, slow-moving weather system parked over the central US. It has been pulling in warm, humid air from the south while a cold front and high winds in the upper atmosphere have created the perfect recipe for severe weather.

‘This multiday outbreak will peak this afternoon through tonight. The atmosphere is primed for destructive storms across the central US,’ Pydynowski added.

Along with thunderstorms, hail and possible tornado impacts, Pydynowski warned that areas that have already seen severe flooding this week, including Wisconsin and Michigan, will likely see more water damage on Friday.

‘More storms will only make it worse. Some roads have been underwater for days. More areas could flood tonight into this weekend,’ he added.

Governors in Michigan and Wisconsin declared a state of emergency on April 15 as storms rolled in, causing isolated tornadoes and rivers to overflow.

The National Weather Service issued new flood warnings across both states on Friday.

States hundreds of miles to the east of Friday’s tornado threat are expected to be in the crosshairs on Saturday, with western New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee and Mississippi at moderate risk for severe thunderstorms.

The AccuWeather team added in a statement: ‘By Sunday, the severe weather potential is likely to have passed its peak, but some gusty thunderstorms may extend from the northern Gulf Coast to the Atlantic Coast.’

Forecasters warned that the weekend storm could have a widespread impact on millions of Americans, disrupting travel, causing more power outages and cutting off supply routes in the Plains, Midwest and Northeast for days.

Tornado season in the US typically stretches from March to June, reaching its peak in May.

Hundreds of twisters touch down each year, with AccuWeather revealing that over 900 were reported in March through May 2025.

Now, the weather agency’s newest predictions for April 2026 show the highest risk of tornado threats moving into Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama and Arkansas.

Traditionally, the region known as ‘Tornado Alley,’ a hotspot for extreme weather in the US, has been centered in Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska.

However, studies have found that changing weather patterns and warmer climates throughout the country have shifted this tornado zone further east and over more states than ever before.

This includes more impacts in Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri and Iowa.

Star-Studded ‘Roommates’: Netflix’s New Film Features Hollywood’s Rising Nepo Babies Like Sadie Sandler and Bella Murphy

A significant portion of the cast in Netflix’s Roommates comprises the offspring of well-known Hollywood celebrities. If any film could be dubbed a “nepo baby movie,” this would be a prime example!

Leading the charge is Sadie Sandler, the eldest daughter of Adam Sandler, who stars in this Happy Madison-produced coming-of-age comedy. She plays Devon, a college freshman on a quest to find a best friend. Initially, she believes she’s found her match in her new roommate, Celeste, portrayed by Chloe East, a former child star and not a product of nepotism. However, their budding friendship soon spirals into a psychological battleground.

Adam Sandler has been featuring his daughters, Sadie and Sunny Sandler, in his films since their appearances in 2010’s Grown Ups. Recently, the sisters have moved from minor roles to taking center stage. Sunny showcased her charm in the delightful You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah in 2023, and now Sadie shines with humor and relatability in the R-rated college comedy, Roommates, which just debuted on Netflix.

With Chandler Levack at the helm and a screenplay penned by Jimmy Fowlie and Ceara O’Sullivan, Roommates offers a quirky and entertaining look at the complex, often tumultuous dynamics of young adult female friendships. Not all young actors in the cast come from famous lineages; notable exceptions include Storm Reid, Ivy Wolk, Billy Byrk, Aidan Langford, and a surprise appearance by Megan Thee Stallion.

However, several supporting cast members do boast famous parents, including the children of Eddie Murphy, Martin Scorsese, Laura Dern, and Chris Rock.

Near the end of the film, Roommates offers a wink to its status as a “nepo baby movie” with one perfect joke. Devon gets her revenge on her terrible roommate, Celeste, by revealing to the student body that Celeste didn’t grow up poor, as she claimed. In fact, she’s the daughter of the CEO of Staples. Upon hearing this one of the students—played by SNL writer and avowed nepo baby Martin Herlihy—stands up, outraged, and shouts, “You’re telling me she’s a f–king nepo baby?”

In that spirit, let’s go over who in the Roommates movie cast is “f–cking nepo baby.”

  • Sadie Sandler, Adam Sandler’s daughter, as Devon

Again, Adam Sandler has put his daughters, Sadie and Sunny Sandler, in over 20 of his movies by this point. But though she had a supporting role in You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah, this is the older Sandler daughter first time as the lead. Honestly, she crushed it! I really felt for poor Devon. And though he produced the movie via his Happy Madison productions company, Adam Sandler doesn’t actually appear in the film. So, Sadie was flying solo… alongside all her fellow nepo babies, that is.

  • Laura Dern’s daughter, Jaya Harper, as Olivia

Oscar-winner Laura Dern—who is herself a nepo baby, as the daughter of Bruce Dern—has two children with her ex, Grammy-winning musician Ben Harper. One of those children, 21-year-old Jaya Harper, appears in Roommates as a fellow college freshman named Olivia who befriends Devon and Celeste. For her showcase, Olivia demonstrates knocking down a controversial statue on campus. (It turns out the statue is not actually a Confederate soldier—he’s just riding a horse.)

  • Eddie Murphy’s daughter, Bella Murphy, as Emma

Bella Murphy—one of ten children belonging to superstar comedian Eddie Murphy—appears in Roommates as Olivia’s roommate, Emma. Olivia (aka Laura Dern’s daughter Jaya Harper) and Emma become a foursome with Devon and Celeste, despite the fact that they have very uncool twinkle lights and Polaroids hanging in their dorm room.

  • Tim Herlihy’s son, Martin Herlihy, as Christian

ROOMMATES. Martin Herlihy as George in Roommates.

You know Martin Herlihy—who plays a fellow student and Frisbee golf enthusiast named Christian—as one third of Please Don’t Destroy, a sketch comedy group who are currently working as writers (and, in Ben Marshall’s case, a cast member) on Saturday Night Live. You might not know Herlihy’s father, Tim Herlihy, as a household name, but there’s no doubting his status as a nepo baby—Tim Herlihy is a former SNL writer-producer himself, and a longtime comedy partner of Adam Sandler, aka the guy who produced this movie.

  • Martin Scorsese’s daughter, Francesca Scorsese, as Ellie

ROOMMATES. Francesca Scorsese as Ellie in Roommates.

Perhaps you recognized Francesca Scorsese—daughter of legendary, Oscar-winning filmmaker Martin Scorsese—from her hilarious TikTok videos she likes to make with dear old dad. In Roommates, she plays Ellie, the leader of the college freshman orientation, which involves high ropes courses, scavenger hunts, and more.

  • Chris Rock’s daughter, Zahra Rock, as Lola

ROOMMATES. (L to R) Tess Aubert as Jordan, Francesca Scorsese as Ellie and Zahra Savannah Rock as Lola in Roommates.

The youngest daughter of stand-up comedian Chris Rock, Zahra Savannah Rock, briefly appears in Roommates as another college freshman named Lola. Notably, she gets kicked in the “titty” by Devon on the high ropes course during orientation. It’s extra cute that her name is Lola in the film, as that’s the name of Zahra’s older sister, Lola Simone Rock.

Michael Vaughan Criticizes Bazball Strategy: Advocates for Jimmy Anderson’s Inclusion and Calls for a More Grounded Approach

0

Seated just outside his birthplace of Manchester, Michael Vaughan reflects on the city’s motto, “Concilio Et Labore”—meaning “by wisdom and effort”—as a fitting philosophy for England’s cricket team. Following a difficult Ashes series, Vaughan urges the team to embrace this mindset to mend the fractures within English cricket.

Vaughan is in town to promote the Barclays Knight-Stokes Cup, a state school competition he initiated, which boasts participation from over 1,100 teams. Its grand finale will unfold at the esteemed Lord’s Cricket Ground this summer. As a vocal critic of England’s recent struggles in Australia, Vaughan is passionate about the need for a shift in attitude, despite the decision to maintain the current team lineup.

He emphasizes the necessity for wiser selection processes, advocating for the inclusion of high-performing players over the usual choices. Additionally, Vaughan calls for more meticulous preparation under Brendon McCullum’s management, suggesting players be allowed to bring their personal coaches to better prepare for Test matches.

Reflecting on the past, Vaughan notes how James Anderson, once sidelined with 704 Test wickets to his name, remains a strong contender for the upcoming series against Australia. Vaughan argues that Anderson, who has seamlessly transitioned to a captaincy role at Lancashire, is in top form, having already claimed 14 wickets at an impressive average this season.

“I believe he’s currently the best bowler,” Vaughan shares with Daily Mail Sport. Having captained Anderson in 21 of his 188 Test matches, Vaughan insists, “We should never dismiss anyone too soon.”

‘I’m not just saying it for a headline, but because England have to win that 2027 Ashes series. Just say that they have three injuries and Jimmy’s still bowling 83-84mph. Are you telling me you wouldn’t throw him in? Of course you would.

‘Last winter, when Australia needed to win a game of cricket, they picked Michael Neser, and look what he did (15 wickets in three Tests at under 20). I know he’s 36 and he’s a lot younger in terms of age, but I’d say Neser’s body’s probably worse than Jimmy’s.’

In the short term, despite the post-Ashes review demanding an onus on County Championship form when it comes to selection for the first home Test of the year against New Zealand on June 4, he believes there is only one position up for grabs in a team he says possesses an abundance of talent but lacks direction.

And that position belongs to Zak Crawley, who has begun the summer with scores of 9, 20, 26 and 5 for Kent in Division Two.

‘He’s not had a flying start to the season,’ says Vaughan. ‘If he’d have come out and gone 100, 100, 100, yeah, you’d have had another look, but I think it’s now time to move on.  If you want to be the best team in the world, your opening batter is not going to average 31 with five hundreds in 64 games. So, I think England have to look beyond that now.

‘What’s interesting to me is that players that have been mentioned before the start of this season as possible Test picks – Haseeb Hameed, Dom Sibley, James Coles at Sussex – have not knocked the door down. Yes, they might have had a little bit of bad fortune, but what I look for when players get touted for England is whether they then deliver for their county, because fundamentally you’re under a bit more pressure when the eyeballs are on you.

‘There’s still a few weeks to go, but you’ve got a four-horse race among the openers and I’m saying to Ben McKinney now, after his double hundred for Durham: Your nose is in front. He looks a talent. I like the way that he plays.

‘Asa Tribe, a player that interests me with the way that he gets over to the off-side and plays the safe game, working the ball to leg, is probably just behind him, then Hameed and Sibley a fair way back, but I can’t see any other opportunities unless they look for an English-style seamer like an Ollie Robinson or Sam Cook.’

Vaughan believes Zak Crawley's place is the only one under threat in this England team - and was not helped by a run of low scores to start the season with Kent

Sam Cook (left) or Ollie Robinson could come into the England team to offer an ‘English-style’ seam option

Any overhaul, Vaughan argues, in a week that the ECB oddly created more noise about last winter – releasing an in-house interview in which captain Ben Stokes insisted he is ’95 per cent aligned’ with McCullum despite differences of opinion on tactical approach surfacing Down Under – should be focused on preparation, not personnel.

‘Fundamentally, they’ve got to get away from this ‘vibe’ coaching – I don’t see any sporting team get better by just turning up and having a vibe,’ Vaughan continues. ‘England hate people for saying that because they say that they do a lot of work, but they don’t do the same amount of work as some of the other sporting teams that I’ve witnessed.

‘The talent is there but talent can only get you to so far in any sport, so they need a little bit more dedication to really improve the players technically. Mentally, they’ve got to accept that when the pressure’s been on in the last few years of this regime, they haven’t done it. India at The Oval last year – failed. Australia in the winter – failed. World Cups to date – failed.

‘Because success for this England group should be winning. They’ve reached the last five semi-finals at Twenty20 World Cup. So, this coaching group has done no better than any other coaching group. You’ve got to have aspirations to be the best in the world and from what I’ve seen, you can’t say that the organisation of the team has been what you would say is high performance.

‘These past 22 years represent probably the most successful period in history for English men’s cricket. We’ve been used to winning Ashes series. We’ve been used to winning World Cups.

‘This regime came in on the back of an environment that was created through Covid. What Joe Root had to deal with as captain was tough, so when they first came to power, they were brilliant in freeing up the players.

‘Where leadership is clever is realising where you have to change. You look at all the great football managers, they change – either personnel, the way that they play, or someone in their backroom staff to bring in a little bit of new energy.

‘If I was playing the game now, I would have my own dedicated batting coach with me, like a golfer turning up to the Ryder Cup. And on a Tuesday or a Wednesday before the Test match starts, I’d want my coach there. Rob Key (the ECB’s director of men’s cricket) would be open to that, I think.

‘I don’t see Jamie Smith (left) getting down and dirty every morning for 30 minutes, catching balls. But I saw Australia’s Alex Carey (right) do that’

‘I would want my players in the best state of mind, technically and mentally, for the Thursday start and if that meant bringing in Alec Stewart to work with Jamie Smith, or Bruce French or Jack Russell, whoever, so be it.

‘Social media clips aren’t everything, but I see so many clips from counties of coaches drilling the players and there’s so much more going on. Again, they won’t like me for saying it, but when I watch England on a morning, I don’t see any of that. I don’t see Jamie Smith getting down and dirty every morning for 30 minutes, catching balls. But I saw Australia’s Alex Carey do that.

‘If a player wants to bat all day on a Tuesday, do you know what? Let that player bat all day on a Tuesday. As England coach, that’s what you’re there to provide.’

Brittany Cartwright Clarifies Speculations on Cosmetic Enhancements Following ‘Mommy Makeover

Brittany Cartwright is candidly addressing the cosmetic procedures she underwent as part of her “mommy makeover” and discussing her openness to future enhancements.

“I don’t have any specific plans for more procedures, but I’m open to possibilities,” Cartwright, 37, shared exclusively with Us Weekly on Wednesday, April 15, while promoting the third season of The Valley. “I had my second breast augmentation filmed for TV, so any future procedures will be shared publicly,” she added.

Following the birth of her son Cruz in April 2021, Cartwright decided on a “mommy makeover” nearly four years later. In 2025, she chose to undergo a breast augmentation and a tummy tuck, later explaining on her podcast, “When Reality Hits,” that she was dealing with diastasis recti, a condition involving the separation of abdominal muscles, as well as issues like “stretch marks” and a “shelf.”

“I have not had a nose job or facial fillers, despite what some might think,” she clarified to Us Weekly. “If I had, I’d be upfront about it.”

Promo Brittany Cartwright Reveals Plastic Surgery Details After Cryptic Post

Cartwright’s recent decision to undergo these procedures marks an important personal milestone. “This was something Brittany had considered for a long time,” shared a spokesperson. “Her ‘mommy makeover’ with Dr. Payman Danielpour and Dr. John Layke at Beverly Hills Plastic Surgery Group signifies a new and empowering chapter in her life.”

Ever since getting new breast implants and having a tummy tuck, Cartwright has felt more confident than ever.

“I feel so amazing. I’m so glad that I did it, you know, kind of just taking my confidence back, taking my body back,” she said on Wednesday. “I’m just so glad that I did it. It was something I wanted to do for a long time, and you have no idea what it actually means to me. I’m sure a lot of moms out there can understand, but yeah, I feel amazing.”

The Valley star went under the knife amid her separation from estranged husband Jax Taylor. (Cartwright and Taylor, 46, have yet to finalize their divorce and currently share custody of Cruz, 5.)

“Coparenting is not easy. We still have our issues, but Cruz does not see any of that,” Cartwright added to Us of her dynamic with Taylor. “There’s no toxic anything in front of him, no arguments, nothing like that. Cruz comes first to both of us. I love him, his dad loves him, so he’s always gonna come first, no matter what, and he’s just thriving right now, and I’m so proud of him.”

Brittany Cartwright Would Definitely Go Smaller During Next Breast Augmentation Is Waiting to Get Checked Out Until She Knows If She Will Have More Kids

Brittany Cartwright is opening up about her fluctuating relationship with her breasts. “I get comments and stuff about my breasts all the time and it’s so annoying because I had my boobs done, gosh, it’s probably about 10 years ago,” Cartwright, 36, said on the Friday, March 21, episode of her “When Reality Bites” podcast. […]

Cartwright’s life as a single mom is also chronicled on season 3 of Bravo’s The Valley. (Taylor took a step back from the reality TV series ahead of the new season amid mental health issues.)

“It’s so much lighter this season. I don’t want to go back into the dark, toxic stuff,” she teased of the newest episodes, which feature Cartwright diving back into the dating pool. “I think if I’m going to date somebody for real, be in a real relationship, like, this is my life. I signed up for reality TV. I know I’m gonna share my life. I’m an open book, as I always say, and I always try to be super authentic. Whoever I date will have to probably pop in and out … but it’s important to me that they would respect that, but I don’t want them to be, like, eager.”

The Valley airs on Bravo Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET.

Trump and Iranian Diplomacy: Ensuring the Strait of Hormuz Remains Open and Secure

BEIRUT (AP) — On Friday, a significant announcement came from both U.S. President Donald Trump and Iran’s Foreign Minister, declaring the Strait of Hormuz open for commercial shipping. This development comes as a 10-day ceasefire in Lebanon continues to hold.

The ceasefire provides a respite from the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Hezbollah militant faction, potentially paving the way for an agreement involving Iran, the United States, and Israel to conclude weeks of intense warfare. Despite this progress, uncertainty looms over whether Hezbollah will accept an agreement they weren’t involved in crafting, especially with Israeli forces maintaining a presence in parts of southern Lebanon.

In a message on social media, President Trump highlighted that Iran had officially stated the strait is “fully open and ready for full passage.”

Just prior to Trump’s statement, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi took to X to affirm that all commercial vessels could now freely pass through the strait, in accordance with the ongoing ceasefire in Lebanon. He noted that this openness would persist as long as the truce remained in effect.

However, questions remain regarding the status of the U.S. blockade on the strait. Trump clarified that the blockade would “remain in full force” until a formal agreement is reached between the U.S. and Iran to conclude the conflict.

Meanwhile in Beirut, barrages of gunshots rang out across the city as residents fired into the air just after midnight to celebrate the beginning of the truce, and displaced families began moving toward southern Lebanon and Beirut’s southern suburbs despite warnings by officials not to attempt to return to their homes until it became clear whether the ceasefire would hold.

A spokesperson for the U.N. peacekeepers in southern Lebanon said Friday that they have not observed any airstrikes since midnight, but accused the Israeli military of violating airspace and artillery shelling in southern Lebanon. The Israeli military did not immediately comment. According to the agreement shared by the State Department, Israel can act in self-defense against imminent attacks but cannot carry out offensive operations against southern Lebanon.

Trump heralded the deal a “historic day for Lebanon,” even as he expressed confidence that the war with Iran would soon end in a Las Vegas speech.

“I will say the war in Iran is going along swimmingly,” Trump said. “It should be ending pretty soon.”

An end to Israel’s war with Hezbollah was a key demand of Iranian negotiators, who previously accused Israel of breaking the current ceasefire deal with strikes on Lebanon. Israel said that deal did not cover Lebanon.

Pakistan’s army chief met Thursday with Iran’s parliament speaker as part of international efforts to press for an extension of the ceasefire.

The fighting has killed at least 3,000 people in Iran, more than 2,100 in Lebanon, 23 in Israel and more than a dozen in Gulf Arab states. Thirteen U.S. service members have also been killed.

Israel says it will keep troops in Lebanon

Israel’s hard-line Defense Minister Israel Katz warned on Friday that Israel plans to respect the ceasefire even though attempts to completely disarm Hezbollah in southern Lebanon are “not yet complete.” Katz said that Israel would continue to hold all the places it is currently stationed, including a buffer zone extending 10 kilometers (6 miles) from the border with Israel into southern Lebanon. He said that many homes in the area would be destroyed and Lebanese residents will not return to the area.

Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he agreed to the ceasefire “to advance” peace efforts with Lebanon, but also said Israeli troops would not withdraw.

Israeli forces have engaged in fierce battles with Hezbollah in the border area as they pushed into southern Lebanon to create what officials have called a “security zone.”

“That is where we are, and we are not leaving,” he said.

Hezbollah has said that Lebanese people have “the right to resist” Israeli occupation of their land and that their actions “will be determined based on how developments unfold.”

The U.S. State Department said that according to the agreement, Israel reserves the right to defend itself “at any time, against planned, imminent or ongoing attacks.” But otherwise, Israel “will not carry out any offensive military operations against Lebanese targets, including civilian, military, and other state targets.”

Trump announced the agreement as a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, but a Hezbollah official said the ceasefire was a result of negotiations between the U.S. and Iran. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly.

Israel and Hezbollah have fought several wars and have been fighting on and off since the day after the start of the Gaza war. Israel and Lebanon reached a deal to end that war in November 2024, but Israel has kept up near-daily strikes in what it says is an effort to prevent the Iran-backed militant group from regrouping. That escalated into another invasion after Hezbollah again began firing missiles at Israel in response to its war on Iran.

Flurry of diplomacy led up to Lebanon ceasefire

The agreement came after a meeting between Israel’s and Lebanon’s ambassadors in Washington and a flurry of subsequent phone calls from Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, according to a White House official.

They were the first direct diplomatic talks between the two countries in decades. Hezbollah had opposed direct talks between Lebanon and Israel.

Trump spoke Wednesday evening with Netanyahu, who agreed to a ceasefire with certain terms, according to the official, who was not authorized to comment publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.

Rubio then called Lebanon’s president, Joseph Aoun, who got on board. Trump then spoke with Aoun, and again with Netanyahu.

The State Department worked with both governments to formulate a memorandum of understanding for the truce.

Pakistan army chief meets with Iranian parliament speaker

Pakistan’s army chief met Thursday with Iran’s parliament speaker as part of efforts to press for an extension to a ceasefire that has paused almost seven weeks of war between Israel, the U.S. and Iran.

Even as the U.S. blockade on Iranian ports and renewed Iranian threats strained the ceasefire, regional officials reported progress, telling AP the United States and Iran had an “in-principle agreement” to extend it to allow for more diplomacy. They spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive negotiations.

Mediators are pushing for a compromise on three main sticking points: Iran’s nuclear program, the Strait of Hormuz and compensation for wartime damages, according to a regional official involved in the mediation efforts.

Trump suggested the ceasefire could be extended.

“If we’re close to a deal, would I extend?” Trump said in an exchange with reporters. “Yeah, I would do that.”

Minnesota Prosecutor Files Charges Against ICE Agent in Gun Incident; Savanah Hernandez Case Still Pending

The incident involving Morgan unfolded as part of the broader “Operation Metro Surge,” a federal immigration enforcement initiative that has sparked both protests and intense scrutiny in the Minneapolis area. On February 5, Morgan reportedly accelerated his vehicle, drove alongside another car on Highway 62, and pointed his official firearm at the occupants, as detailed by Moriarty during a recent press conference.

In an unexpected twist, while Morgan faces these serious allegations, no charges have been pursued regarding a separate incident where Turning Point USA reporter Savanah Hernandez was attacked. This disparity in legal action highlights the complexities and challenges within the justice system, particularly when federal operations intersect with local jurisdictions.

Mary Moriarty has responded to the situation by issuing a nationwide arrest warrant for Morgan, a move that underscores the gravity of the charges. As the case unfolds, it is bound to provoke further discussion about the legal boundaries and responsibilities of federal agents operating within individual states.

Morgan “sped up, pulled alongside the vehicle, matched its speed, opened his window and pointed his duty weapon directly at both victims,” Moriarty said during a press conference.

According to a criminal complaint, the incident unfolded around 4:20 p.m. near the Interstate 35W interchange as traffic slowed to a single lane. Prosecutors said Morgan drove on the shoulder to bypass congestion before pulling alongside the victims and pointing a handgun at their heads.

Investigators said Morgan was driving a rented SUV with no markings identifying it as a federal vehicle. Both victims said they felt threatened by his actions, according to the complaint.

Investigators said Morgan was not responding to an emergency at the time and told authorities he was heading back to the Whipple Federal Building to end his shift and get gas.

Morgan told investigators he feared for his safety, yelled “Police! Stop,” and believed the individuals were “agitators” who cut him off because he was a federal agent, according to the complaint.

Authorities have issued a nationwide warrant for Morgan’s arrest. He faces two counts of second-degree assault, each punishable by up to seven years in prison. Bail was set at $100,000, with conditions including no possession of weapons and compliance with all court appearances.

Moriarty said the case moved more quickly than other investigations tied to Operation Metro Surge because authorities were able to complete their work “without obstruction or interference.”

“Today’s charges reflect an important milestone in our efforts to seek accountability,” Moriarty said, adding that her office is continuing to investigate more than a dozen other incidents involving federal agents.

Prosecutors are also reviewing whether to file charges against individuals accused of assaulting Hernandez during an anti-ICE protest outside the Whipple Federal Building last weekend.

Protesters swarmed Hernandez while she was reporting, blowing horns in her face, yelling obscenities and shoving her as she attempted to leave, according to video from the scene.

At one point, a protester pushed Hernandez into a fence, and another later shoved her to the ground as she yelled, “Stop touching me” and “Leave me, I am trying to leave!”

Hernandez later said she suffered minor injuries, including scrapes and soreness.

A spokesperson for the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office told Fox News Digital that three cases tied to the Hernandez incident have been submitted by law enforcement and are under review for potential charges, though a timeline for a decision remains unclear.

The cases were submitted out of custody, meaning no arrests were made at the time.

The FBI has opened a federal investigation. No charging decision has been announced.

The President was reportedly tuned into Fox News’ program The Five when co-host Jessica Tarlov caught his attention, sparking his displeasure.

“I’m watching one of the least attractive and talented individuals on television, Jessica Tarlov,” Trump expressed.

“Her voice is so grating and unpleasant, I had to ‘turn her off!'”

“Her Democrat talking points are FAKE. She fabricates ‘Poll Numbers,’ and no one challenges her because she’s so dull.”

Tarlov identifies herself as a “liberal living in a conservative world.”

The Five typically has a series of presenters of differing political opinions to discuss issues to the day.

“GET HER OFF THE AIR, SHE IS BAD FOR OUR COUNTRY!” Trump demanded.

“I hear Megyn Kelly, Tucker Carlson, and Candace Owens are dying fast,” he said.

“Their numbers are terrible. Nobody believes them anymore.”

Trump’s attack on Tarlov is not the first time he has commented on the physical attractiveness of female reporters.

“Quiet. Quiet, piggy,” he told her.

He has posted angry messages about the judge who blocked his ballroom being constructed, New York mayor Zohran Mamdani, former counterterrorism official Joe Kent and the entire country of Italy.

“Italy wasn’t there for us, we won’t be there for them!” he wrote.

”While I didn’t know him other than our brief Dover encounter, but feeling sorry for him after the two Election losses, I told my people, ‘Hire him for the White House. Give him a job, make him feel good, he lost his wife and two Elections,’” Trump said.

“They did so and, while I rarely saw him, I certainly didn’t expect disloyalty, but that’s what I got.”
