Trump Appoints Trusted Ally Brian Johnson as Permanent CFPB Director: What This Means for Financial Regulation

0

On Wednesday, President Donald Trump announced his intention to appoint Brian Johnson as the new director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). Johnson, a former aide and financial services executive, previously held a key role in the bureau during Trump’s first term. If confirmed, he will lead the CFPB for the remainder of Trump’s second term.

Brian Johnson gained prominence as the deputy director under Kathy Kraninger, the first CFPB director appointed by Trump. During Kraninger’s leadership, Johnson wielded considerable influence, shaping the direction and priorities of the bureau. After his departure in 2020, Johnson joined Patomak Global Partners and later held a senior executive position at Capital One, a major player in the credit card industry.

Should the Senate confirm his appointment, Johnson will take over a bureau that has been largely inactive since Trump returned to office. Under the temporary leadership of Trump’s budget director, Russell Vought, the CFPB has focused on reversing previous regulatory actions.

Johnson was the deputy director of the bureau under Trump’s first CFPB director, Kathy Kraninger.

Established in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis, the CFPB was created by Congress to serve as an independent regulator, overseeing consumer financial products and services with broad enforcement powers. However, Republicans have consistently criticized the bureau, arguing that it wields excessive, unchecked authority. They have made several attempts to curtail its influence since its inception.

Johnson has been an outspoken critic of the CFPB, particularly during the tenure of President Joe Biden’s appointee, Rohit Chopra. Despite his criticisms, Johnson’s views are notably less extreme than those of Vought, who has openly advocated for the dismantling of the CFPB. Vought’s term as acting director is set to conclude in August.

While Johnson testified in 2023 to the House Financial Services Committee that the bureau is “ripe for reform” either by Congress or internally, he believed that “properly structured and managed, (the CFPB) is capable of great good.”

Lindsey Johnson, the president and CEO of the banking industry lobby group Consumer Bankers Association, described Johnson as having a “tenured background steeped in consumer protection policy.” Lindsey Johnson is unrelated to Brian Johnson.

Johnson’s nomination will go to the Senate Banking Committee, where Sen. Elizabeth Warren, the bureau’s biggest advocate, is now the top-ranking Democrat on the committee. Warren was a critic of Johnson when he was deputy director of the bureau during Trump’s first term, and was also critical of Johnson’s nomination.

“Russ Vought can no longer serve as Donald Trump’s hatchet man at the CFPB. So here comes the next hatchet man to try to finish the job,” Warren said in a statement.

Minnesota Resident Becomes First Arrest from DOJ’s ‘Most Wanted Fraudsters’ List by FBI

0

On Wednesday, FBI Director Kash Patel announced that Said Abdullahi Ereg, formerly a grocery and deli owner in Minneapolis, has surrendered to federal authorities. He is the first individual apprehended from the FBI’s newly released “Most Wanted Fraudsters” list, as federal efforts to combat fraud continue across the nation.

Said Abdullahi Ereg, aged 47, is facing charges that include conspiracy to commit wire fraud, wire fraud itself, and money laundering.

According to the FBI, Ereg turned himself in less than a week after the Justice Department introduced its “Most Wanted Fraudsters” list, aimed at publicly identifying those charged in significant fraud cases.

“Today’s arrest is a landmark event – the first arrest of someone from our Most Wanted Fraudsters List, unveiled last week alongside the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud,” Patel said in a statement.

Authorities said Ereg has been wanted on federal charges since 2024 and is fraudulently obtaining more than $4.2 million from the Federal Child Nutrition Program during the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to federal officials, Ereg operated Evergreen Grocery and Deli, a Minneapolis grocery store and deli under the sponsorship of the nonprofit Feeding Our Future.

Prosecutors allege he falsely claimed to have served meals to children in need, fraudulently obtained government reimbursements and laundered the proceeds through foreign accounts while using some of the money to finance a lavish lifestyle.

Court documents allege Evergreen Grocery and Deli claimed to have served more than 3,000 meals twice daily, seven days a week.

“Led by Vice President Vance and the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud, we set up the historic, first ever ‘Most Wanted Fraudsters’ list for this exact purpose — to bring to justice the alleged worst of the worst who took advantage of American taxpayers and stole public funds,” Patel said.

He added that the list serves as a warning that “the days of Washington, D.C., turning a blind eye to fraud are over.”

In a post on X, Patel suggested the arrest was only the beginning of a broader enforcement effort.

“This historic result is only the beginning — and let it be a message to any fraudster who takes advantage of America, this team will find you,” Patel said.

Federal officials said Ereg contacted authorities through his attorney and expressed a willingness to return to the United States one day after the FBI launched the “Most Wanted Fraudsters” list.

The Justice Department also noted that Ereg’s wife, Najmo Ahmed, who worked at the business and received payroll payments directly from Feeding Our Future, pleaded guilty last year to money laundering charges and is scheduled to be sentenced later this month.

Apple’s Game-Changing ‘Kill Switch’ Poised to Deter Mobile Theft: A Victory for Safety After Daily Mail’s Campaign

0

The rampant market for stolen smartphones is facing a significant setback thanks to a cutting-edge technological development.

Apple has committed to integrating a ‘kill switch’ feature that will render stolen devices useless, significantly reducing their black-market value.

The tech company announced this global update to its phone settings following a campaign driven by Britain’s leading police official, supported by the Daily Mail.

This feature enables users to deactivate their devices, making them impossible to resell.

The decision comes in response to London’s alarming reputation as the global hotspot for phone theft, with approximately 200 devices being stolen every day.

Now other companies are under pressure to follow suit after Scotland Yard Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley announced he was writing to the Home Secretary asking for legislation to force them into making stolen mobiles unusable – thwarting a black market worth more than £50million a year in the UK alone.

Police want to build a national register of stolen phones, asking telecoms giants to share data on whether thieves have been able to reconnect devices to sell them on.

Apple is the first tech company to agree to change its security settings globally, switching on anti-theft protection by default to protect users’ accounts and personal information.

This prevents thieves from changing passwords to reconnect to a phone network so they can sell on the device.

If the stolen handset cannot be reused, it becomes a worthless ‘brick’.

To solve the problem, Apple switched on ‘stolen device protection’ as a default setting for all users in a recent global system update of their phones.

This means when users register their phones as ‘lost’ after they have been stolen – by logging into iCloud.com/find on another device such as a laptop, tablet or someone else’s phone – it effectively acts as a kill switch, making the handset useless until the owner re-enters their password.

In a landmark agreement, the Metropolitan Police and Apple will now share data on snatched handsets so the force can track phones and identify whether they reappear in circulation.

Since the joint work began to disrupt global criminal networks, Apple has seen a significant reduction in stolen phones being successfully reactivated.

Last night, Sir Mark warned criminals: ‘Let me be clear to those driving this crime.

‘If you are stealing phones in London, your business model is being dismantled piece by piece.

‘The technology is catching up with you, and so are we. Our officers are targeting you on the streets, identifying you through intelligence, and shutting down the networks that move stolen devices around the world.

‘The risks are rising and the rewards are disappearing. This is no longer easy money.

‘We will find you, we will arrest you, and we will put you before the courts. Time is up.’

He told the Daily Mail that the partnership could eradicate the crime which has blighted millions of lives: ‘We can strike at the heart of this crime by destroying the business model that sustains it.

‘Now the rest of the industry and government must act to finish the job.’

The Daily Mail has led the way in uncovering the trade in stolen handsets. Last month Scotland Yard praised a ‘brilliant’ Daily Mail investigation after three members of a phone-smuggling network admitted to a £180million operation.

The gang was at one time responsible for almost half the phones stolen in London – with many of the devices taken to a high-rise block in Hong Kong that was infiltrated by Daily Mail reporters last summer.

The newspaper traced stolen phones from London through suburban British warehouses, before they landed in Dubai, Hong Kong and China.

Amir Muhammad Khadikhel, 35, Ismat Miakhel, 33, and Mansoor Mohammed, 30, later pleaded guilty to smuggling 62,000 stolen phones.

London has some of the highest rates of phone theft in England and Wales.

Detectives have found adverts on Snapchat offering children as much as £380 to steal a single iPhone, with a bonus of £100 for stealing ten of them. Tech firms have been slow to respond to the issue as the theft of handsets results in more sales.

Figures released under Freedom of Information show only a fraction of devices are returned to their owners.

Between 2017 and February 27, 2024, a total 587,498 phones were stolen in London, but only 13,998 were recovered.

In March, Sir Mark issued an ultimatum calling on the telecoms giants to take action or face legislation.

In a major crackdown, the force has managed to almost halve mobile phone muggings in Westminster this year following hundreds of arrests.

The Commissioner said: ‘I gave an ultimatum to tech firms – take urgent steps to prevent stolen phones from being resold and reused, or we will call on Government to step in and legislate.

‘For the first time, we are routinely sharing intelligence on stolen devices, building a joint picture of how these phones move and whether they reappear in circulation.

‘That partnership is already making a difference.

‘If stolen phones cannot be reactivated, their value collapses, and so does the incentive to steal them.’

Samsung and Google are now also making security changes to tackle the issue.

Kate Adams, senior vice president of government affairs at Apple, said: ‘We’re grateful for our partnership with the Metropolitan Police and welcome the impact of Operation Reckoning in helping drive down phone theft across London.

‘We’ll continue to innovate, invest, and work closely with law enforcement in the UK and around the world to disrupt the market for stolen phones.’

Leelee Sobieski Steps Back into the Spotlight After a Decade Away

Although it’s been a while since her days on Wisteria Lane, former Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria has found a new place to call home.

In a November 2024 interview with Marie Claire, Eva shared her reasons for leaving Los Angeles, a city that had been central to her adult life. “Even before the pandemic, things were changing, and the vibe was different,” she explained. “Then COVID hit, and it was the tipping point. Whether it’s issues like homelessness or high taxes—not that I want to criticize California—but it feels like I’ve closed that chapter of my life.”

For the last few years, Eva, her husband José Bastón, and their son Santiago have been dividing their time between Mexico and Spain.

“I recognize how fortunate I am,” she added. “I have the means to relocate. Many Americans don’t have that luxury and are left to face the challenges in what feels like a dystopian country. My heart goes out to them, and it fills me with anxiety and sadness.”

Eva clarified that her decision to move wasn’t influenced by President Trump’s re-election.

“I didn’t leave because of the political environment,” the Flamin’ Hot director said on The View: Behind the Table podcast in November 2024. “I left because my work took me there since Land of Women—shooting six months in Catalonia, then four months in Mexico for Searching for Mexico, then back to Spain. Now I’ve been there for years. So I just don’t like that it’s politicized.”

Since moving, Eva has continued to stay busy, with recent projects including her roles in Only Murders in the Building and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip.

Unveiling the Truth: Robert Carradine’s Cause of Death in ‘Revenge of the Nerds’ Star’s Tragic Story

0

The circumstances surrounding the death of Robert Carradine, the cherished actor most recognized for his role in “Revenge of the Nerds,” have come to light several months after his passing at 71.

Documents from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner have disclosed that Carradine’s death resulted from an anoxic brain injury. This tragic outcome followed a suicide attempt while he was undergoing treatment at UCLA’s Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital.

The official determination of his death was classified as suicide.

These newly unveiled details provide a glimpse into the final weeks of Carradine’s life, highlighting a protracted battle with significant mental health issues—a struggle his family has since addressed openly.

Renowned for his portrayal of the endearing nerd hero Lewis Skolnick in the 1984 cult classic “Revenge of the Nerds,” Carradine passed away on February 23, 2026.

Medical Examiner records state that the actor had a history of bipolar disorder, severe depression with psychotic features, anxiety and prior suicidal ideation.

According to the investigative summary, Carradine voluntarily admitted himself to UCLA’s Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital on January 16, 2026, because he was experiencing suicidal thoughts.

The following day, hospital staff found him unresponsive in his room after what investigators described as an apparent hanging involving a leather belt.

Medical personnel were able to restore circulation and Carradine was transferred to intensive care, where he remained hospitalized for more than five weeks.

His condition continued to deteriorate and he was pronounced dead on February 23.

The Medical Examiner’s report lists the cause of death as ‘sequelae of anoxic brain injury’ due to hanging. The report notes that no foul play was suspected.

Investigators interviewed family members as part of the inquiry into Carradine’s death.

According to the report, Carradine had battled bipolar disorder, depression and psychosis for roughly two decades and had recently become increasingly depressed.

The records also indicate that Carradine had previously sought treatment for suicidal thoughts at the same facility.

Family members believed he had been discharged too early following an earlier hospitalization before he returned and admitted himself again in January.

News of Carradine’s death stunned fans across Hollywood and beyond when it was announced by his family.

In a statement to Deadline, his brother Keith Carradine spoke candidly about the actor’s mental health struggles and urged people not to view his death through the lens of stigma.

‘We want people to know it, and there is no shame in it,’ Keith said. ‘It is an illness that got the best of him, and I want to celebrate him for his struggle with it, and celebrate his beautiful soul. He was profoundly gifted, and we will miss him every day.’

The youngest member of the legendary Carradine acting dynasty, Robert Carradine spent more than four decades working steadily in film and television.

Born into Hollywood royalty as the son of actor John Carradine and the younger brother of actors Keith and David Carradine, he initially dreamed of becoming a race car driver rather than following his family into show business.

That changed when he landed a role in the 1972 John Wayne western The Cowboys, a project he later credited to encouragement from his brother David.

From there, Carradine built an impressive résumé that included appearances in acclaimed films such as Mean Streets, Coming Home and The Big Red One.

But it was his portrayal of Lewis Skolnick in Revenge of the Nerds that transformed him into a pop culture icon.

The low-budget comedy became a surprise sensation and Carradine’s awkward, lovable underdog emerged as one of the defining movie characters of the 1980s. He reprised the role in multiple sequels and remained closely associated with the franchise throughout his life.

Later generations came to know him as Sam McGuire, the father of Hilary Duff’s title character on Disney Channel’s Lizzie McGuire.

Following news of his death, Duff paid tribute to her former television dad.

‘It’s really hard to face this reality about an old friend,’ she wrote on Instagram. ‘There was so much warmth in the McGuire family and I always felt so cared for by my on-screen parents. I’ll be forever grateful for that. I’m deeply sad to learn Bobby was suffering.’

Carradine also pursued another lifelong passion outside acting. During the late 1980s and 1990s, he fulfilled his dream of becoming a professional race car driver and competed for Lotus.

His career later received a boost when Quentin Tarantino cast him in Django Unchained in 2012, introducing him to a new generation of moviegoers.

Despite personal setbacks, including a serious 2015 Colorado car crash that injured both Carradine and his then-wife Edith Mani, he continued acting consistently throughout the remainder of his life.

In an emotional tribute, Ever Carradine reflected on the bond she shared with her father.

Taylor Swift Pays Homage to Stevie Nicks with Playful T-Shirt at Knicks vs. Spurs NBA Finals Game 4

Taylor Swift never fails to turn heads with her courtside fashion choices.

All eyes were on the pop sensation as she made a stylish entrance at Madison Square Garden for Game 4 of the NBA Finals between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs. The “I Knew You Were Trouble” singer sported a trendy blue baby tee emblazoned with the playful phrase “Stevie Knicks.”

Swift wasn’t alone in her fashion statement. She was accompanied by her close friends, Este and Alana Haim, who joined in the theme with their own witty shirts reading “Knickole Kidman” and “Knickleback.”

Earlier today, Page Six revealed that Swift would be attending the game, citing a source who stated, “She’s a huge Knicks fan and really wants to be there to support them. She’s going with friends.”

Although Swift often shows her support for fiancé Travis Kelce by donning Kansas City Chiefs gear at his games, the couple recently made a joint appearance in Cleveland. There, they watched the Cavaliers take on the Knicks during the NBA Eastern Conference Finals.

They coordinated in his-and-hers denim for the game at Rocket Arena, with Swift sporting a chain-accented tank top from Stella McCartney’s recent H&M collaboration along with a patchwork denim jacket, wide-leg jeans and heeled sandals from the designer’s primary collection.

A black Dior Cigale bag finished her game-day outfit.

Kelce opted for a short-sleeved Louis Vuitton denim shirt and pants, Nike LeBron 7 MVP sneakers in Cavaliers colors and a Just Don x Mitchell & Ness hat emblazoned with the Cleveland team’s name and logo.

While the tight end couldn’t make it to tonight’s game on account of his pre-season training schedule, he’ll be back at Madison Square Garden soon enough: As Page Six revealed last week, Swift and Kelce are set to marry at MSG over Fourth of July weekend.

Wealthy Progressives’ Attempt to Influence Power Falls Short

1. The Limits of Wealth in Politics: Lessons from California’s Primary

by Riley Nork

The recent California primary elections have once again demonstrated that financial might does not always translate into political victory. Due to the state’s complex electoral processes, it took several days to finalize the results, highlighting inefficiencies often likened to those found in less developed nations. However, what stood out most was the underperformance of two affluent, self-funded candidates who failed to secure success despite significant personal investments.

Saikat Chakrabarti, who gained prominence as a tech entrepreneur and later as chief of staff for Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, poured an astonishing $10 million into his campaign for a House seat. His efforts, however, did not yield the desired outcome.

Similarly, Tom Steyer, a billionaire who has often labeled himself a “class traitor” due to his progressive stances, invested over $200 million in his gubernatorial bid. Despite such a hefty expenditure, Steyer also finished in third place.

While fun to complain about, rich dudes “BuYiNg ElEcTiOnS” is… not so easy in practice! Keep this in mind the next time Saikat’s thicc former boss says Elon’s political donations are ‘literally the end of democracy’ or whatever.

2. Put the conspiracies to bed (if you can find one)

by Mike Solana

As media pundits continue to assure us that Nithya Raman’s weeklong leapfrog over Spencer Pratt in the LA mayoral race was totally fraud-free and definitely not more suspicious than a homeless man in Venice leaving the Walgreens with a whiskey-bottle-sized bulge in his jacket, it’s important we blindly trust these pundits and not point out inconvenient facts: like the thousands of voters registered to LA homeless shelters that — whoops! — don’t even have beds.

Per The California Post, several thousand voters had their registrations tied to such shelters, even though many currently offer zero accommodations whatsoever.

And would you look at that! One such accommodation-free “shelter” even got a $600,000 grant delivered by COUNCILWOMAN NITHYA RAMAN HERSELF while she chaired a homelessness committee. To be fair, it’s entirely possible this wasn’t a de facto bribe… perhaps the homeless tweakers just loved her policy platform (she lets them camp outside schools, after all).

3. “Oh my mama, they got drones.”

by Max Weiner

In a viral clip that resurfaced this week, San Francisco felon turned rapper Dreamlife Rizzy tells rap tastemaker and pornstar connoisseur Adam22 that “crime in San Francisco is over with,” because Flock Safety’s license plate readers and drones have made his fav pastime, drive-bys in stolen cars, impossible.

Responding Monday, Flock CSO Rahul Sidhu said, “when the risk of getting caught is too high, crime plummets.”

He’s right: In Oakland and Berkeley, auto thefts have dropped 57% since implementing Flock in 2023.

Naturally, activists are furious. Leading the opposition is Will Freeman, a software engineer who founded DeFlock, a website mapping cameras and arming activists with city council talking points.

Will, from the lawless wasteland known as Boulder, Colorado, with a violent crime rate 28 times lower than Oakland, says this technology is dangerous, and doesn’t work, but even if it did, we need more time to study it. Thank you, Will. Now give me your car.

Controversy Strikes: Championship Hopes Dashed for Undefeated Lacrosse Team After Fake Cigar Scandal

0

An undefeated high school lacrosse team in Massachusetts saw its championship dreams dashed this week after school officials declared nine players ineligible, leading Ipswich High School to forfeit its state semifinal game.

The decision has ignited controversy, as the players maintain they did not breach the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association’s tobacco policy, asserting that the cigars they smoked during a graduation celebration were tobacco-free.

On Tuesday, Ipswich was forced to forfeit its MIAA Division 4 semifinal against Cohasset High School due to an insufficient number of eligible players.

As reported by Boston.com, senior Christian Gianakakis, along with several teammates, engaged in a graduation tradition on Sunday by smoking homemade cigars. Gianakakis claimed these cigars, crafted by his father, contained no tobacco after online-ordered fake cigars failed to arrive in time for the celebration.

This incident unfolded at Ipswich High School in Ipswich, Massachusetts, where the boys’ lacrosse team had to forfeit a crucial state semifinal following the ineligibility ruling post-graduation festivities.

The controversy escalated after a photo of the students was reported to school officials, who believed the cigars were real, according to the report.

Gianakakis told Boston.com that he and several teammates later recovered one of the cigars and presented it to school administrators as evidence that it did not contain tobacco. He also told the outlet that Principal Jonathan Mitchell initially informed him and his father that the players would be allowed to participate in Tuesday’s semifinal before the decision was reversed roughly four hours before game time.

“It felt like a punch in the face. It was like we were being called liars,” Gianakakis told Boston.com.

Ipswich High School said in a statement that the team and coaching staff decided to forfeit because of a shortage of available players.

“Ipswich High School was very excited to have its boys lacrosse team advance to the Division 4 State Semifinals that was scheduled for Tuesday evening at 6 p.m.,” the school said in a statement on its website. “The team and coaching staff decided that due to the shortage of available players that it was in the best interest of the team to forfeit the game. We congratulate all of our players and coaches on a great season and for advancing to the Final Four.”

MIAA Executive Director Bob Baldwin told WEEI that the organization was aware of the situation but did not participate in determining whether the students could play.

“We did not rule in that. We were just made aware of it,” Baldwin said. “It’s a local decision; we did not get involved at all in that decision.”

Baldwin pointed to MIAA rules governing alcohol, tobacco and controlled substances, noting that such investigations are typically handled at the local level.

The MIAA handbook states that when a principal determines a student-athlete has violated rules governing alcohol, tobacco or controlled substances, the student loses eligibility for the next consecutive contests totaling 25% of that sport’s season.

The circumstances surrounding the eligibility decision remain unclear. According to Boston.com’s reporting, Gianakakis believes the final determination was made by Superintendent Brian Blake.

News Media reached out to Superintendent Brian Blake, Principal Jonathan Mitchell and Athletic Director Tom Gallagher for comment.

Tinley Park Teen Set to Shine on Broadway Stage at Prestigious Jimmy Awards

0

A Tinley Park student is among two teenagers chosen to represent Illinois at the prestigious Jimmy Awards, scheduled to take place in just under two weeks.

This opportunity is part of a program sponsored by Broadway in Chicago, dedicated to nurturing young talent in musical theater.

ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watch

“I’m eager to soak up knowledge from all these incredibly talented individuals,” shared Logan Arroyo. “Opportunities like this are rare, and I want to seize it and make the most of every moment.”

Arroyo has been striving to reach this milestone for the past four years.

“The first year, I didn’t make it, the second and third years, I was nominated, and now, I’ve finally won,” Arroyo explained.

He said he discovered his passion for theater in a third-grade play.

“I had never touched musicals, plays, anything like that. I got into it, and my teacher is like, ‘Hey, you’re really good at this.’ And I was like, ‘Am I?’ I don’t know. And my parents came and saw it. And they were just like, ‘Wow, we didn’t know that you could do that.’ I wouldn’t be where I am now without my parents. I say it’s cliche, but they are my rock,” Arroyo said.

The music director at Lincoln-Way East said Arroyo has a knack for storytelling.

“He did pretty early on indicate he wanted to do this; so I said, ‘let’s go, we’re gonna work hard,” Ann McMann-Kotze said. “Four years ago, my son, Joe, won. He won the best actor at the Illinois High School Musical Theater Awards. And he got to go to the Jimmys. So it’s so fun getting to see Logan go. Also, he’s kind of like another son to me.”

Arroyo said he does sometimes get intimidated.

“It’s a scary place, especially putting yourself out there on a stage or alone. You’re on the edge of this precipice, and you’re pushing yourself. And you’re staying out there, and you’re being you because that’s enough,” Arroyo said.

Arroyo and Jane Nuich of Park Ridge are heading to New York later this week for their Broadway debuts.

Jason Derulo Criticized for Installing Shark Tank in Home Flooring

0

Jason Derulo has faced intense criticism, being labeled as ‘evil’ and compared to an ‘off-brand Bond villain’ for housing a shark and a manta ray in a floor aquarium at his residence in Tarzana, California.

The 36-year-old singer found himself at the center of controversy after users on the popular subreddit Fauxmoi criticized a video where he showcased the aquarium setup to Kick streamer N3on.

Many commenters expressed outrage, accusing Derulo of subjecting the marine animals to a miserable life in an inadequately small space purely for show.

One disgruntled user remarked, “There is absolutely no justification for this,” and criticized celebrities who treat animals as mere decorative items. They added, “He needs to be reported.”

Another critic argued that maintaining fish in such conditions “should absolutely be illegal” and slammed the “Whatcha Say” singer for boldly displaying the setup.

The Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for Derulo for further comment on the story.

Numerous users said that Derulo’s accommodation for the fish were lacking, as one noted the animals had ‘nowhere to hide from people or bright lights or loud noises.’

Another user added, ‘There’s not even anything enriching in there,’ commenting, ‘My childhood goldfish had a better setup.’

Said one user, ‘Shark(S). Multiple. In a kiddie size swimming pool. I counted at least 3. Also stingrays. Terrible look.’

A user called the Savage Love singer’s home aquarium the ‘ultimate dick move,’ adding, ‘That’s a living creature, not a decoration.

‘And an empty f***ing tank at that. Not a shred of anything that could mimic a natural habitat.’

Another user said that there was ‘no way that’s enough room for one shark, let alone the other things he has in there.

‘I think people get dismissive over aquatic animals because “They’re just fish” but this is cruel.’

One commenter pointed out, ‘He could have a little robot fish in there or just a visual effect, for the exact same look. The cruelty is the only addition.’

Derulo faced the wrath of Reddit users for what they said was a set-up unaccommodating to the animals

Derulo faced the wrath of Reddit users for what they said was a set-up unaccommodating to the animals

Derulo chat last year with Graham Bensinger about his Los Angeles area estate, saying that he’s ‘always wanted to have a shark tank in my house.’

He said in the segment, ‘I came up with the idea of creating, like, a really large one on the floor.’

The vocalist described to Bensinger the fish set-up he had in the home aquarium, and how it came to be.

‘There’s a forest shark in here, and then a stingray,’ Derulo said, adding that there ‘used to be a lot of fish in there’ initially.

Derulo said the shark didn’t ‘want to coexist’ with the fish.

‘The shark, they don’t want to coexist,’ he said. ‘They want to eat them, so … they ate all the fish, yeah.’
