The arrest was confirmed on Saturday by Mayo’s father, Major Jerry Williams of the Indiana State Police, who is also a candidate for the position of Lake County Sheriff.

Records indicate that Mayo is currently being held at the Clark County Jail in Ohio.

In addition, authorities have conducted a search of Mayo’s residence in Merrillville, Indiana.

No further information was immediately available about Mayo’s arrest nor the investigation at his home.

ABC7 has reached out to New Chicago city officials for more information.

Williams released the following statement Saturday:
“My wife and I and our family are deeply concerned over recent information regarding our son, Earl Mayo, chief of the New Chicago Police Department. We raised all of our children with love, guidance and a strong foundation of values. We’ve always held our children to higher standards, as we have ourselves.

“We have very little information about this incident at this time. We are aware there are allegations that are troubling, and we struggle to reconcile them with the values we worked so hard to instill in all of our children and grandchildren.

“Under our criminal justice system, Earl is presumed innocent unless and until proven otherwise. We respect that fundamental principle, and it is important that the legal process be allowed to proceed fairly and impartially.

“If it is ultimately established that Earl engaged in the conduct alleged by the government, then he must and should accept responsibility for his actions and face the consequences.

“This is an extremely difficult and emotional time for our family. Given the seriousness of this matter and the ongoing legal proceedings, we cannot comment any further on the undisclosed details of this situation.”

28 Boy Scouts Successfully Rescued from Rapid Floodwaters During West Virginia River Expedition

0

A routine Boy Scout river trip in West Virginia took a dramatic turn on Saturday, evolving into an unexpected rescue operation when swift floodwaters trapped 28 scouts. The scouts, hailing from Fairfax, Virginia, were navigating the Cacapon River in Hampshire County when the water’s rapid rise forced them to seek refuge on the riverbank.

As the scouts attempted to reach safety, they found themselves stranded on the river’s opposite side, cut off by the surging waters. Micah Campbell, accompanying the group, shared with Fox News Digital that the troop’s simple outing was quickly disrupted by the storm’s aftermath, which escalated the river’s intensity beyond anticipation.

What began as a planned adventure soon turned into a precarious situation as the scouts were caught off guard by nature’s sudden fury. The incident highlights the unpredictable challenges that can arise in outdoor pursuits, emphasizing the importance of preparedness and quick thinking in unforeseen circumstances.

In a related note of cautionary tales, a Texas girl was recently rescued after a sand hole she was digging collapsed, burying her. These incidents remind us of the inherent risks in seemingly ordinary activities and the vigilance required to ensure safety.

“We were doing a river trip and the current and the strength of the river turned out to be a little stronger than we thought,” Campbell said.

Campbell said the scouts initially moved toward land for safety before realizing they were stranded.

“When some of the boys went into the river, we decided to call it off and go on shore,” he said. “And now we were on the wrong side of the river, so we needed some help getting across.”

Jeffrey West, whose father owns a cabin near where the scouts became stranded, said rescue crews were called to the scene.

Watercraft eventually arrived and transported the boys safely across the river.

Altogether, the scouts were stranded for roughly 45 minutes.

“It’s been a day,” West said with a laugh, adding that he had originally planned a “quiet weekend at the cabin.”

West said the boys later gathered at the cabin, where they were given pizza and hot cocoa while waiting for transportation home.

He added that arrangements were being made to shuttle the scouts out of the area.

Johnny Manziel Stuns Fans with Knockout Victory Over Social Media Influencer in Epic MMA Debut

0

On Saturday, Johnny Manziel stepped into the amateur MMA ring for the first time at Brand Risk 14, swiftly overcoming social media personality Bob Menery in a 205-pound match at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

During the initial moments of the fight, Menery approached with little defense and was quickly taken down. Manziel, known for his past as an NFL quarterback and as the 2012 Heisman Trophy recipient, seized the opportunity to mount his opponent, unleashing a barrage of elbows and punches that forced the fight to be halted at 2:15 of the first round.

Following his swift victory, Manziel expressed his respect for Menery, stating, “Respected you for getting in here. Much love, brother,” as he was presented with an honorary “W U” belt.

Both fighters confirmed they don’t plan to step into the ring again anytime soon. Menery humorously added, “Not after that display,” when questioned about a potential rematch.

This influencer-centric event, initially planned for Miami but relocated to Las Vegas after UFC CEO Dana White gave his approval, attracted an elite audience. Among them were music superstar Chris Brown, Las Vegas Raiders’ defensive end Maxx Crosby, and UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland.

White previously helped generate buzz by publicly doubting the fight would even happen, stating he placed a $10,000 bet that the notoriously unpredictable Menery would no-show.

Saturday’s 11-fight card — with an MMA main card after a boxing prelim card — was the first Brand Risk event held outside Miami or Nashville since its inception.

California Declares State of Emergency Due to Imminent Chemical Tank Explosion Threat

0

Governor Gavin Newsom of California has issued a state of emergency for Orange County due to the imminent threat posed by a large chemical tank that could potentially “spill or explode.”

Over 40,000 people were forced to evacuate on Saturday after attempts to stabilize the 34,000-gallon tank at a GKN Aerospace site in Garden Grove proved unsuccessful.

The tank holds methyl methacrylate (MMA), a highly flammable substance that authorities are concerned might leak or detonate, potentially setting off a hazardous chain reaction with other nearby chemical containers.

“Ensuring the safety of Orange County residents is our top priority,” Newsom emphasized in a public statement.

“We are deploying all available state resources to assist local emergency teams and ensure the community has everything necessary to remain safe,” he added.

If the problem cannot be secured, officials said an explosion could damage adjacent buildings, start a fire or dump 6,000 to 7,000 gallons of ‘very bad chemicals.’

‘California’s Office of Emergency Services continues to work alongside our local partners to support the ongoing hazardous materials response operation,’ said Director Caroline Thomas Jacobs in the joint statement.

‘Our role is to coordinate resources, share critical information, and ensure local responders have all the resources necessary to safely respond to this dynamic situation.

‘We are committed to a unified, whole-of-government response focused on keeping our communities safe.’

Firefighters first responded on Thursday after vapors began escaping from the massive storage tank at the company’s Garden Grove facility.

Officials said the tank’s temperature had increased, activating a relief valve designed to release pressure safely.

At first, crews believed they had stabilized the emergency after deploying cooling measures and using water systems to reduce the tank’s temperature.

Evacuation orders issued on Thursday evening were briefly lifted after vapor conditions improved, but the situation dramatically deteriorated again overnight.

Multiple evacuation locations were set up outside the Garden Grove area, including Anaheim and Huntington Beach, according to the city website.

Approximately 15 percent of people ordered to evacuate opted to stay home, reported the New York Post.

It is unclear when evacuated residents may be able to return to their homes.

By early Friday morning, officials realized a damaged valve on the compromised tank had made it impossible to safely remove or neutralize the chemicals inside.

‘We have determined that the tank that is in the biggest crisis is, in fact, unable to be secured and mitigated,’ Orange County Fire Authority Division Chief Craig Covey warned during a tense emergency briefing.

‘This thing is going to fail. We don’t know when,’ he added. ‘There is a lot of anxiety over this.’

The Orange County Fire Authority worked overnight Friday in an attempt to neutralize adjacent tanks in an effort to mitigate the threats of a major disaster.

Orange County Representative Derek Tran said at a press conference on Saturday that the adjacent tanks were under careful watch because they contained the same toxic chemicals.

‘The additional part to all of this that complicates things is the two other tanks that are located in there,’ he said. ‘While those tanks are not failing, they contain 30-something thousand additional gallons of the same toxic chemicals.’

But the emergency proclamation stated that despite efforts to quell the problem ‘significant risk remains of a catastrophic event that could lead to a hazardous release of dangerous chemicals.’

Tran said crews are working 24 hours a day to address the issue.

Failures with the internal temperature gauge of the primary tank caused it to climb to 90 degrees on Saturday morning, after reading 77 degrees the day before, according to Fox Digital.

‘Yesterday afternoon, I did report that we had some positive intel and that the tanks were stable, and we were keeping the temperature cool,’ Covey said. ‘And, actually, we thought we were reducing it a little bit.’

‘Unfortunately, I have to say those temperatures we are doing is via drone, doing readings external of the vessel.’

After the failure of overnight procedures, officials developed a third outcome that could circumvent disaster.

Crews planned to use a continuous heavy stream of water to slowly ‘cure’ and harden the dangerous chemicals in the affected tank from the outside.

‘We are not giving up,’ he said. ‘We are not accepting the fact that we just have to let this thing fail. We’re going to try to find a solution.’

Responders have also coordinated efforts to divert the dangerous chemicals from entering storm drains, rivers and the ocean.

Health officials have said there are ‘severe risks’ if the affected tank ruptures, including the release of a toxic vapor.

Dr Regina Chinsio-Kwong of the Orange County Health Care Agency told Fox that if inhaled, the chemicals could cause severe respiratory issues.

‘No matter what happens with the situation, whether the polymer just leaks out and then just hardens, or if it does explode and there is a vapor, you are all safe as long as you are out of the zone,’ she said.

The Daily Mail contacted the Governor’s Office, GKN Aerospace, Garden Grove and Orange County Fire Authority Division for comment.

Breaking Down the South Carolina Redistricting Bill: Key Changes, Impacts, and What’s Next

0

Trying to follow the developments in South Carolina’s legislative battle over congressional district changes can feel like a dizzying ride, especially if you’ve been keeping up with the whirlwind of updates on social media. The situation has been particularly intense over the Memorial Day weekend.

To bring everyone up to speed, Matt Vespa from our sister site, Townhall, provided a handy update last Friday. He highlighted the urgency of the situation, noting that early voting in South Carolina was set to begin on May 26, creating a pressing deadline for resolving the redistricting issue.

As the discussions unfolded on Saturday, many observers on platforms like X were left with lingering questions: Did the bill pass? Have Republicans managed to secure an additional district? And what about state Senate Majority Leader Massey, whose opposition seems to be throwing a wrench into the proceedings?

Justin Evans from the political consulting group Big Dog Strategies also commented on the situation via X on Saturday. He acknowledged the “noise” surrounding the redistricting efforts and offered a detailed explanation. While his insights are quite comprehensive, they are certainly worth the read for anyone seeking clarity on the matter.

…

Regardless, the State House approved it, the South Carolina State Senate Judiciary Committee authorized it, and now it’s up to the Senate to pass it. It failed a key motion vote today, where essentially their version of the 60-vote threshold, Rule 15b on cloture, was rejected by these traitors.

Vespa noted that early voting in SC begins on May 26, so there’s a ticking clock on getting this fixed.

Up In the air, then, on Saturday are questions for people looking in on X… like: Did they pass the bill? Did Republicans gain a district? What about that state Senate majority leader Massey, who seems hell-bent on gumming up the whole deal by opposing it?

Justin Evans of political consulting firm Big Dog Strategies wrote in an X post on Saturday that he also was hearing “a lot of noise” about the redistricting moves. His clarifying explanation is article-length, readers, but it’s straight-forward and worth the read, I think:

He wrote:

Because there’s a lot of noise about SC redistricting and what happened today, let me clarify.

Today’s vote was second reading, the consequential one, where the real fight happens. But it isn’t the finish line.

The bill still needs third reading. After the procedural time allotted for speeches, amendments, and debate (redistricting bills are treated differently under the rules), the Senate takes a final vote to give it third reading. As long as it stays unamended, it then goes straight to the Governor for signature. No trip back to the House.

Earliest the Governor could receive it is sometime Wednesday, assuming no procedural hiccups and assuming every senator who supports redistricting keeps showing up and voting, every single day.

That last part matters more than anything. Attendance is crucial. These votes are won and lost by who’s in the chamber. One empty seat, one amendment that forces it back across the building, and the timeline slips.

We are close. Keep it clean. Keep showing up.

Pass the bill.

Indeed, pass it! I read this post’s contents as good news for Republicans, Certainly, things are in a better place than they were just a day ago.

The coming days will tell the tale, and we’ll bring you updates as we learn of them. Hang tight, Palmetto State!

Gainesville Resident Faces Drug Trafficking Charges on Final Day of Probation

Staff Report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – In a turn of events coinciding with the scheduled end of his drug offender probation, 28-year-old Henry Maurice Hall Jr. found himself under arrest yesterday. He faces charges for possessing trafficking-level amounts of substitute cathinone.

The incident unfolded around 7:56 p.m. on May 22, when an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy pulled Hall over at the Maa & Paa Store located at 6410 SW 8th Avenue. The traffic stop was initiated due to illegal window tinting and Hall’s failure to wear a seatbelt.

According to the deputy, upon noticing the patrol car, Hall attempted to evade attention by swiftly maneuvering around other vehicles before parking and stepping out of his car, seemingly in an effort to distance himself from the approaching law enforcement.

The deputy further noted that Hall exhibited signs of considerable nervousness, and both he and his vehicle emitted a strong odor of marijuana.

Hall reportedly provided his medical marijuana card and said he had marijuana in a dispensary container; he gave deputies consent to inspect the container, and deputies reported that the label said it had expired in 2025. Hall reportedly said he had put new marijuana in the older container, which is not a legal way of packaging medical marijuana.

While another deputy was speaking with Hall, he reported that a bag containing a chunky white powdery substance dropped from Hall’s shorts onto the ground, and that deputy detained Hall in handcuffs.

The deputy also reported that Hall kicked at a receipt near his foot “in a clear effort to destroy and/or conceal the evidence” under a patrol car, and the deputy reportedly found another large chunk of the white substance inside the receipt.

The white substance tested positive for substitute cathinone (phenethylamine) and weighed a total of about 15 grams, above the trafficking threshold of 10 grams.

Post Miranda, Hall reportedly said he “froze,” and he said the substance was for personal use. He also admitted that he had not been wearing his seatbelt.

Hall has been charged with possession of trafficking quantities of phenethylamines, tampering with evidence, and possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana. He has 10 felony convictions (one violent) and six misdemeanor convictions; he has served one state prison sentence and was released in 2024. He is on drug offender probation that was scheduled to terminate on May 22, 2026. Judge Craig DeThomasis set bail at $18,500.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Revitalize Your Core: 5 Daily Exercises to Flatten Your Tummy Faster Than Gym Machines After 55

Feeling like your core is getting stiffer after 55? These five simple exercises can help you maintain strength without the need for gym machines.

As we age, particularly past the age of 55, belly fat and a softer lower abdomen become more challenging to manage. This is often due to hormonal changes, muscle deterioration, less frequent physical activity, and prolonged periods of sitting, all of which contribute to weakened core muscles and a broader waistline. Many people invest significant time using gym equipment in hopes of slimming their midsection. However, these machines typically isolate specific movement patterns and fail to effectively strengthen the entire core. Achieving a more toned waistline requires rebuilding muscle support, enhancing posture, and increasing whole-body tension during physical activities.

Incorporating daily bodyweight exercises can be more beneficial than relying on gym machines. These exercises encourage the core to stabilize naturally as your body moves through real-world motions. Unlike the stationary positions of gym equipment, standing and floor-based exercises engage the abdominals, glutes, hips, and lower back simultaneously. This full-body engagement boosts calorie burning while firming the muscles beneath the stomach. Consistency in these simple routines outweighs the complexity of machines, especially when considering the recovery and joint comfort needs that become important past the age of 55.

Research highlighted in the Journal of Physical Therapy Science shows that regular, core-focused training can significantly enhance abdominal muscle thickness, posture, and trunk stability in older adults. Strengthening these muscles also aids in improving balance and lessens lower back strain during daily activities. The following five exercises are designed to engage your entire midsection, building strength and endurance without the need for costly equipment. By integrating these exercises into your daily routine, you’ll notice your core becoming tighter, stronger, and more supportive in all your movements.

Research published in the Journal of Physical Therapy Science found that consistent core-focused training improved abdominal muscle thickness, posture, and trunk stability in older adults. Stronger core muscles also improve balance and reduce lower-back strain during everyday movement. The five exercises below challenge the entire midsection while building strength and muscular endurance without relying on expensive machines. Practice them daily, and your core will feel tighter, stronger, and more supportive during every movement.

Standing Knee Drives

Standing knee drives challenge the core while forcing the lower abdominals to stabilize during dynamic movement. Many adults over 55 lose lower-core strength because traditional ab exercises place too much stress on the neck or lower back. This movement keeps the body upright while training the abs to resist rotation and maintain posture during repeated leg lifts. The standing position also increases calorie demand because the glutes, hips, and supporting leg remain active throughout the exercise. Over time, knee drives improve coordination, walking mechanics, and core endurance while tightening the muscles that support the stomach area. Performed with controlled intensity, this exercise creates far more real-world abdominal activation than many seated gym machines.

How to Do It

  • Stand tall with feet hip-width apart
  • Tighten your core gently
  • Drive one knee upward toward your chest
  • Swing the opposite arm naturally
  • Lower slowly with control
  • Alternate sides continuously
  • Maintain tall posture throughout
  • Perform 20 total repetitions.

Dead Bugs

Dead bugs strengthen the deep core muscles responsible for stabilizing the spine and flattening the midsection. Unlike crunch machines that encourage neck strain and momentum, this movement trains the abs to maintain control while the arms and legs move independently. Many adults over 55 struggle with lower-back discomfort because the core loses its ability to brace effectively during movement. Dead bugs rebuild that stability while teaching proper abdominal engagement without excessive spinal pressure. The slow tempo forces the deep abdominal muscles to remain active continuously, which improves posture and trunk control. This exercise also creates stronger movement coordination that carries directly into daily activities.

How to Do It

  • Lie on your back with knees bent at 90 degrees
  • Raise your arms toward the ceiling
  • Tighten your core and flatten your lower back gently
  • Extend one leg outward slowly
  • Lower the opposite arm overhead
  • Return to the starting position
  • Alternate sides with control
  • Complete 10 repetitions per side.

Glute Bridge Marches

Many people overlook the connection between weak glutes and a sagging midsection. When the glutes fail to stabilize the pelvis properly, the lower abs lose tension and the stomach pushes outward more easily. Glute bridge marches strengthen the backside while forcing the core to stabilize continuously during alternating leg lifts. The movement improves pelvic control, posture, and abdominal engagement without stressing the lower back. Adults over 55 benefit tremendously from exercises that train the glutes and core together because those muscle groups work as a team during nearly every daily movement. Expect stronger lower-abdominal activation and improved trunk stability after consistent practice.

How to Do It

  • Lie on your back with knees bent
  • Press your feet into the floor
  • Lift your hips into a bridge position
  • Tighten your glutes and core
  • Lift one foot slightly off the floor
  • Lower it slowly
  • Alternate legs without dropping your hips
  • Perform 10 marches per side.

Standing Side Crunches

Standing side crunches target the obliques and waistline while improving spinal mobility and core control. Many gym machines lock the body into rigid movement patterns that fail to train real-world stability. This exercise forces the core to engage dynamically while the body remains upright and balanced. The repeated side contraction strengthens the muscles that help tighten the waist and support better posture. Adults over 55 often notice reduced stiffness and stronger trunk control after adding rotational core work consistently. The standing setup also reduces pressure on the neck and lower back compared to traditional floor crunches.

How to Do It

  • Stand tall with your hands behind your head
  • Keep your chest lifted
  • Raise one knee toward the side of your body
  • Crunch the same-side elbow downward
  • Squeeze through your obliques
  • Return to the starting position slowly
  • Alternate sides continuously
  • Perform 20 total repetitions.

Bear Plank Holds

Bear plank holds create full-core tension that few gym machines can replicate. This exercise forces the abs, shoulders, hips, and glutes to stabilize together while the body hovers slightly above the floor. Many adults over 55 lose core firmness because the deep stabilizing muscles stop activating consistently during movement. Bear planks rebuild that lost tension while strengthening the muscles responsible for posture and abdominal control. The hovering position increases total-body engagement without requiring high-impact movement or complicated coordination. Even short holds produce intense abdominal activation that helps tighten the entire midsection over time.

How to Do It

  • Start on all fours
  • Position your hands under your shoulders
  • Keep your knees under your hips
  • Lift your knees a few inches off the floor
  • Tighten your core and glutes
  • Keep your back flat
  • Breathe steadily throughout
  • Hold for 20 to 30 seconds.

Amanda Frances Reveals Drama with Sutton After Reunion: “Disappointed” in Rachel, Calls for Dorit’s Support

Amanda Frances recently shared insights into her “complicated” relationship with Erika Jayne, while also throwing some shade at Rachel Zoe, Dorit Kemsley, and Sutton Stracke during an interview earlier this week.

Amanda Frances Hints Sutton Stracke is Two-Faced and Shares What Happened Post Reunion, Plus Says She's "Disappointed" by Rachel & Dorit Needs "Help," as She Reacts to Rihanna Telling Her Not to Quit RHOBH

Credit: Bravo

In a candid conversation where she praised Kyle Richards, Kathy Hilton, and Bozoma “Boz” Saint John, the 41-year-old star of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills didn’t hold back. Frances, who has been responding to Rihanna’s request for her return in the show’s upcoming 16th season, was asked to sum up her fellow cast members in a single word.

When it came to Kyle Richards, Frances described her as “good,” elaborating to Extra TV that Kyle is “a good person at the end of the day, honestly.”

Frances was equally complimentary of Kathy Hilton, calling her “great” and referring to her as a “show mom” and a “wonderful human.” She also highlighted Boz’s strength, expressing admiration for her resilience.

Amanda then said “great” about Kathy, describing her as a “show mom” and “wonderful human,” and gushed over Boz’s strength.

“Strong. Strong f*cking woman,” she said of Boz.

Meanwhile, after revealing things with Erika were “complicated,” Amanda said she was “disappointed” by Rachel, and added that Dorit needs God to “help her.”

As for Sutton, Amanda didn’t have just one word.

“I have, you were nice to me at the reunion, and I got home and opened Instagram and saw you saying something not nice to me in an interview. Like, I don’t know,” she admitted.

As for her interaction with Rihanna, Amanda leaked a DM in which the singer had demanded she not quit.

“No, no, NOPE!!! No quitting!!! You’re gonna have your redemption I promise you!! We need more of you,” Rihanna had written.

Then, in response, Amanda added, “Wait… If Rihanna says I have to do a second season, then do I have to do a second season? Ummm… if The Queen says?!”

As RHOBH fans may have seen, Amanda confirmed to Extra TV earlier this week that she hadn’t been “formally asked back yet.”

“I think there’s a good chance they’re going to, but then I have to decide, ‘Do I want to do that again?’ You’ve gotta understand, it’s like three months of filming, but then it’s like six months of interviews, and then the show starts coming out and it’s media. I was cast this time last year — that means it did take one year of my life,” Amanda reasoned. “It did take a full year, and it was a lot of the year. And I was still obviously running my business, doing my thing, but during the filming chunk of the year, it actually takes up a lot of psychological space doing the show.”

“I wasn’t having, like, creative business ideas. I wasn’t thinking about the next launch. I wasn’t in the space to create and do what I think I’m here to do, you know? The show took a lot,” she added. “But then again, you have all these new people reading my book, checking out my courses, and that feels very meaningful.”
