A Bristol resident is facing serious charges after an incident involving the shooting of a dog. According to the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), the man has now surrendered to authorities.
The SCSO confirmed on Friday that 64-year-old Russell Metcalf is currently in their custody. This follows the events that transpired over the previous weekend.
The announcement came at 5:22 p.m., with the SCSO stating that Metcalf had voluntarily turned himself in “a short while ago.”
ATLANTA () — The Atlanta Braves have announced the passing of their revered former manager, Bobby Cox, who died at the age of 84 on Saturday.
Cox embarked on his managerial journey with the Braves in 1977, after his own playing career was cut short by injury. Initially brought on board by Ted Turner, Cox’s first managerial tenure with the team spanned from 1978 to 1981. He made a comeback as the Braves’ general manager in 1986, marking the beginning of a transformative era for the franchise.
In the interim, Cox also took the helm of the Toronto Blue Jays, leading them to a divisional title in 1985. However, his return to Atlanta as GM set the stage for an extraordinary run of success.
Under Cox’s leadership, the Braves clinched 14 consecutive divisional titles from 1991 to 2005 and captured the World Series crown in 1995 by defeating the Cleveland Indians.
The Braves expressed their profound sorrow with a heartfelt statement: “We are deeply saddened by the loss of Bobby Cox, our cherished leader. Bobby was the most outstanding manager to don a Braves uniform. He was beloved across the baseball community, especially by those who had the privilege to play for him. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has decided to step back from a pivotal mayoral debate, a move that comes shortly after a televised forum where many viewers felt Spencer Pratt emerged victorious.
Bass pulled out of a Los Angeles mayoral candidate forum scheduled for May 13 that was set to air on FOX 11, according to a statement released Saturday by the organizers.
Bass’s decision to withdraw was announced soon after Pratt received commendations for his impressive performance against both Bass and Nithya Raman, a local lawmaker affiliated with the Democratic Socialists of America, during a debate that aired on Wednesday.
Spencer Pratt, a former reality TV star now vying for the mayoral seat, expressed a preference for competing against Raman alone in the upcoming election, without Bass’s participation.
“All the unions back Mayor Bass,” Pratt remarked. “Do you think it’s simpler to contest against the incumbent mayor with union support, or against a random city council member who hasn’t achieved much in six years?”
Pratt has been an outspoken critic of Bass, particularly regarding her management of the LA wildfires that ravaged numerous homes, including his own $3.8 million residence, across Southern California last January.
About 90 percent of viewers declared Pratt the winner of the debate, according to an NBC LA poll.
It was not immediately clear why Bass dropped out of the May 13 forum and she is yet to speak about the issue.

The League of Women Voters of Greater Los Angeles and the Pat Brown Institute for Public Affairs, who organized the event, called Bass’ withdrawal ‘disappointing.’
A statement from the organizers noted that the forum was intended to give voters the ‘opportunity to hear directly from candidates seeking to lead the city through a period of extraordinary challenges.’
In total, five candidates were invited to participate in the May 13 forum, with Bass, Raman, businessman Adam Miller and community advocate Rae Huang agreeing to attend.
The organizers also posted a copy of a confirmation form signed by Bass on April 22 in which she had confirmed her debate appearance.
‘These forums provide voters with the opportunity to hear candidates share their perspectives, respond to questions, and engage with one another on issues facing Los Angeles,’ their statement read.
Pratt had declined the invitation earlier because of a scheduling conflict, according to the debate’s organizers.
It was not immediately clear what that referred to. The forum is the last debate prior to the June 2 mayoral primary.
Bass’ withdrawal comes as Pratt’s mayoral campaign continues to pick up momentum, as he also highlights the high levels of drug use and homelessness in LA.

Bass is scheduled to travel to California’s capital, Sacramento, on May 13 instead of attending the debate.
‘Mayor Bass will be in Sacramento that day fighting for funding for housing, homelessness, and Palisades Fire recovery, and will also discuss the city and state partnership on the Olympics and World Cup,’ a Bass campaign spokesperson told LA Magazine.
The Bass campaign added that ‘people of LA saw twice last week that Nithya Raman and Spencer Pratt are not up to the job as Mayor.’
‘So it’s time to move past debates,’ the statement continued.
Mike Bonin, a former LA city councilmember who is now with the Pat Brown Institute for Public Affairs, told the Daily Mail that it was Bass’ team who initially said she would be available for a forum on that May 13 date.
That caused the organizers to begin reaching out to her leading challengers, with formal invitations sent out on April 20.
Bonin told the Daily Mail that Bass had actually withdrawn on Thursday, before the statement was posted, ‘with her campaign consultant indicating they had debated their two main opponents, who made clear they were not up for the job, and they were done with debates.’
‘We are disappointed that voters will be denied the opportunity to see the Mayor side-by-side with her main opponents in a televised forum just as voters are beginning to really pay attention to the race,’ Bonin said.

Recent polls show a toss-up in the mayoral election before voters head to the polls on June 2.
The election will be decided in a run-off on November 3 if no candidate wins over 50 percent of the vote.
A poll conducted by the UCLA Luskin School of Public Affairs last month suggested that Bass remained in the lead but with her support coming under pressure.
Bass received 25 percent support in the survey, with Pratt placing second at 11 percent and Raman at nine percent.
A separate poll conducted by the UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies found Pratt at 14 percent support with Bass at 25 percent and Raman at 17 percent.

The remarks were purportedly aimed at a team comprising young Jewish players.

Captured by the Copernicus Sentinel between Wednesday and Friday, the imagery shows the slick spanning approximately 45 square kilometers to the west of the island, as reported by analysts referenced by Reuters.
This incident suggests a significant impact from the Trump administration’s maritime pressure strategy, which aims to cripple Iran’s oil export capabilities, potentially hindering Tehran’s ability to manage and transport crude efficiently, thereby disrupting its production cycle.
The suspected spill has heightened fears over Iran’s capacity to handle and export oil under U.S. restrictions, possibly leading to environmentally hazardous methods in the Persian Gulf as Tehran grapples with storage and export challenges.

“At this stage, I see two plausible explanations, and they’re not mutually exclusive,” Miad Maleki, an Iran sanctions and energy expert at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, told Fox News Digital.
“One is operational: They simply didn’t ramp down extraction fast enough relative to their true onshore capacity and over counted on empty tankers slipping through the blockade,” he said.
“Now they’ve effectively over-delivered crude into the export system, with more oil at or near the terminals than they can actually load, and the ‘solution’ is to push some of that excess into the water.”
Maleki said another possible explanation is mechanical failure tied to Iran’s use of aging tankers as floating storage or sanctions-busting carriers.

“They’ve dragged older, marginal tonnage into service as floating storage or sanctions-busting carriers, and some of those retired or poorly maintained hulls are now leaking,” he said.
“Either way, the common denominator is the same — storage and evacuation capacity are out of sync with upstream output, and the Gulf is paying the price for that mismatch.”
The incident comes as the Trump administration continues pressing its Economic Fury campaign against Iran, combining sanctions enforcement with a growing U.S. naval presence around the Strait of Hormuz aimed at restricting Iran’s oil exports.
Before the conflict, Iran exported roughly 1.5 million barrels of oil per day, much of it to China. Analysts say the blockade and the threat of sanctions on shipping companies and financial institutions have made it increasingly difficult for Tehran to move crude out of Kharg Island.
Reuters reported the slick appeared as a “grey and white” plume west of the 8-kilometer-long island.
Leon Moreland, a researcher at the Conflict and Environment Observatory, told Reuters the slick was “visually consistent with oil,” while Louis Goddard, co-founder of Data Desk, said it could be the largest spill since the start of the U.S.-Israel war against Iran roughly 70 days ago.
Kharg Island handles roughly 90% of Iran’s oil exports and has become a critical choke point in the Trump administration’s effort to cut off the regime’s main source of revenue during the ongoing war.
Energy analysts say Iran is now facing a dangerous dilemma. If Iran cannot export oil or find additional storage capacity, it may be forced either to shut down wells, risking long-term damage to oil fields, or dispose of excess crude in ways that could trigger environmental fallout across the Gulf.

“They’ve already reduced extraction. In a true blockade scenario, the constraint isn’t production at the wellhead, it’s the inability to load tankers at export terminals,” Maleki said.
“Once onshore storage nears capacity, output has to be cut to match remaining headroom or wells get shut in,” he added. “In Iran’s case, that’s roughly 13 days.”
The environmental implications are also raising alarm across the Gulf.
Windward, a maritime risk intelligence firm, estimated the slick was moving southeast at roughly 2 kilometers per hour and warned it could reach Qatar’s exclusive economic zone within days and potentially drift toward the United Arab Emirates within two weeks.
The Gulf’s desalination infrastructure, relied upon by millions across the region, remains especially vulnerable to major oil contamination events.
The spill also is unfolding amid heightened military tensions in the Gulf. The war has trapped hundreds of vessels in the region and caused one of the largest disruptions to global crude and liquefied natural gas supplies in recent years.

Flight 4345, an Airbus A321, was departing from Denver en route to Los Angeles and carried 224 passengers and seven crew members, Frontier Airlines said in a statement. It was scheduled to depart at 10:39 p.m. local time.
As the plane was departing, “the aircraft reportedly struck a pedestrian on the runway during takeoff,” the airline said.
No one else was killed, although some of those with minor injuries needed a trip to the hospital:
Emergency crews responded to the scene, and passengers were taken to the terminal. Twelve people reported minor injuries, and five of them were transported to local hospitals, according to the airport.
Incredible as this might sound, it gets even weirder. The airport statement continued:
“Smoke was reported in the cabin and the pilots aborted takeoff. Passengers were then safely evacuated via slides as a matter of precaution.”

Air traffic control audio captured the moment after a Frontier Airlines flight struck and killed a pedestrian on the runway while departing Denver International Airport on Friday.
The person, who has not been identified, jumped the perimeter fence and was hit two minutes later while crossing the runway, the airport said.
Frontier Airlines is investigating the incident, and the National Transportation Safety Board was also notified.

Cervantes’ mother was one of the passengers injured, he told KCNC. “My mom actually ended up going straight down the slide and, like, locking her knee when she hit the floor,” Cervantes said. “She doesn’t have any fractures, but we still gotta take her to the ER.”

The FAA is investigating, spokesperson Jon Henning told CNN, according to the outlet’s reporting linked above. The agency also has partnered with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), along with DIA management and local police, to piece together the puzzling incident, according to a statement from the NTSB on Saturday.

You would think that something like “Don’t climb a fence onto the active tarmac of an airport” should be common sense and does not need to be said aloud. Unfortunately, that was not the case on Saturday in the Centennial state.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Authorities apprehended 25-year-old Anthony Quinn Lockhart Jr. yesterday on suspicion of trying to unlawfully enter an occupied residence.
Around 3:01 p.m. on May 7, a man was captured by a doorbell camera at an apartment in The Oaks complex (6519 W. Newberry Road). He was seen quietly and deliberately attempting to turn the doorknob while a woman was inside alone. After discovering the door was locked, he left the scene.
The individual appeared unaware of the doorbell camera’s presence as he made his silent approach and tried the doorknob without knocking or ringing. Upon departing, he briefly stared into the camera.
The residents, upon receiving an alert from the doorbell system and not recognizing the man, contacted the police. The woman inside expressed fear, being alone during the incident, and both occupants reported feeling disturbed and struggling to sleep following the encounter.
The responding Gainesville Police Department officer reported that the suspect was wearing a teal-colored sweater with a distinct leopard print.
Facial recognition software matched the video from the doorbell with Lockhart’s face; he does not have a listed address and is considered to be homeless, but on May 8, Lockhart was spotted driving out of an apartment complex in the 4100 block of SW 20th Avenue, although he does not have a valid driver’s license. An officer reported that a teal sweater with a leopard print was found on the seat of the car.
Post Miranda, Lockhart reportedly admitted to pulling the door handle and asked if he could apologize to the victim. He also reportedly said he went to The Oaks to meet up with somebody to buy weed, and that person was supposed to leave the door open for him. However, the officer noted that his actions do not align with his story because he tried very slowly to turn the door handle, which is not normal for someone who expects the door to be open; he turned the door handle so quietly that the victim did not hear it, although she was nearby; he never knocked when he found that the door was locked; he walked away immediately instead of waiting for the person he was supposed to meet; and the doors are clearly marked with apartment numbers, so it seems unlikely that he accidentally went to the wrong apartment.
Lockhart reportedly had no response to these points and asked again if he could apologize to the victims.
The detective reported that GPD is following up with other residents of The Oaks who have doorbell cameras, to see if Lockhart went to other apartments. Also, an officer showed the doorbell video to a landscaper who was working in the area, and he reportedly said he “definitely” saw Lockhart walking around the apartment complex around 2 p.m., an hour before the reported incident.
When Lockhart was asked if he would be shown on other doorbell cameras, he reportedly “became very concerned” and thought about his answer before saying he had been in the complex for about an hour, but he only tested one door handle. He was also unable to provide any information about the person he claimed to be visiting at The Oaks.
Lockhart has been charged with attempted burglary of an occupied dwelling and driving with a suspended license. He has six felony convictions (four for burglary), two misdemeanor convictions (non-violent), and one criminal traffic conviction; he has served two state prison sentences, with his most recent release in 2022. Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $52,000.

“In all seriousness… and while I can’t help but be a little flattered, it is not nice, nor is it ok, to post something categorically untrue and defamatory on social media (regardless of whatever rumors or apparent ‘evidence’ led you to that conclusion),” she wrote.
“That is the definition of libel,” she continued. “If it were true I would have no recourse. Because it’s a lie, this can get more complicated.”
She concluded by writing, “Having said that, I hope that we can rectify this. It’s enough now.”
Ciara, for her part, seems to remain unbothered, as she took to Instagram Story to share another cartwheel emoji.
She also returned to Threads to post “lol” alongside a screenshot of Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Lisa Barlow saying she was “physically shaking.”
While Jennifer may have defended West, he recently spoke out on his Show Me Something With Sophie and West podcast, and he admitted to causing a rift in his group of friends.
“These are my friends… and I’ve caused a lot of damage, which f*cking sucks,” he shared, claiming it’s “gonna take some time for sure” to get things back in the right direction.
West shared that having to participate in the reunion was something he “got through” and “one step” in this process.
“And, so, we’re on the other side of it,” he noted. “And reunions aren’t fun, but it’s like the darkest form of therapy. Like, you don’t normally get that much feedback on how your actions impact other people.”
West added he’s “not trying to be cliche,” but thinks he can only “learn and try to be better” after going through this situation.
“The only way you can make experiences like this worth it – as dark as it gets – is to be better from it later,” he elaborated. “Obviously, I have a lot to learn from and be better for, but it’s absolutely the only way you can make any of this — turn it positive.”
