TUCSON, Ariz. — A retired FBI profiler has analyzed bloodstains on Nancy Guthrie’s porch, indicating she was alive when a lone kidnapper forced her from her home in Tucson’s Catalina Foothills. The expert is confident that the suspect, who was masked, left enough evidence to eventually be identified.

“We know she was still alive at that point,” remarked Jim Clemente, who served with the FBI for 22 years.

His conclusions are drawn from the presence of blood droplets concentrated near her front door, which then formed a diminishing trail leading towards her driveway.

“She likely aspirated and then expelled blood while her face was near the ground, which suggests she wasn’t being carried by two people at that moment,” Clemente explained to Fox News Digital.

Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie, is believed to have been kidnapped from her home around 2:30 a.m. on Feb. 1. For days, there were few clues about who was responsible, until the FBI and Google recovered imagery from her Nest doorbell camera that showed a masked man wearing gloves and a holstered pistol arrive on her front steps the night she vanished.

He is described as above average height and build. He was wearing a black Ozark Trail backpack, long sleeves, gloves and a ski mask. And he remains unidentified nearly 100 days later.

Still, the video is full of clues, Clemente told Fox News Digital.

Although the suspect is believed to have scouted the location in advance, he resorted to using foliage to block the Nest camera lens and had the potential to shed facial hair through his ski mask, Clemente said.

“In the process of doing that, I believe he revealed what looked like a tattoo on his wrist, which would not have been revealed had he adequately prepared for that camera being there,” he said.

“So it tells me that he is not a sophisticated offender. He was sort of bumbling his way through this, and he made other mistakes, and I believe those mistakes will directly lead to his capture.”

While investigators have kept details about the inside of the home close, some have leaked, and they paint a story, Clemente said.

“I believe that what it means is he threatened her with his gun when he was at her bedside,” he told Fox News Digital. “He got her to come down, and at the front door is where she realized he’s going to take me and this is very dangerous and I should fight. And she did.”

The doorbell video does not show Guthrie being taken from her home, although there was blood clearly visible on her stone walkway. The camera itself was missing when deputies arrived the next morning. However, the fact that the FBI was able to recover video anyway likely shocked the kidnapper, Clemente said, and someone in his orbit should have been able to pick up the signs.

“Because of all the mistakes this guy made, because of his ineptness and non-professional behavior in this, I believe that he exhibited a great degree of stress when the images were first released,” Clemente said. “Anybody around him should have noticed that change in behavior and potentially be able to identify him because of that.”

There was also an unidentified hair sample recovered from the home. The sheriff’s department initially sent it to a private lab in Florida. After 11 weeks, the lab there sent it to the FBI for more advanced analysis.

“If it is a hair from the offender, then it will lead to his identification,” Clemente said. “They will have his name.”

There is a combined reward of more than $1.2 million for information that cracks the case.

In Nashville, Tennessee, amidst the bustling competition of the Iroquois Steeplechase where jockeys and horse owners vie for top prizes, a beloved tradition continues to steal the spotlight: the parade of foxhounds.

On Saturday, over 20 foxhounds, a breed known for their prowess in running alongside horses and hunters, graced the turf course. As the excitement of race day began, spectators eagerly snapped photos and videos of the hounds in action.

The huntsman, accompanied by his team known as whippers-in, faced the challenging task of guiding the hounds through the course. This task becomes even more daunting with the presence of thousands of fans in the infield, not to mention the tempting aromas of tailgating delights.

According to Charles Montgomery, a master and huntsman with the Mells Foxhounds, one particular hound was so charmed by the adoration of fans that she strayed from the course. “She had the best time,” Montgomery recounted, noting her fondness for the beer tents.

Montgomery humorously added that this hound enjoyed the beer tent so much that she repeated her detour the following year. Consequently, she is no longer part of the race day lineup.

The Iroquois Steeplechase is one of the premier American steeplechase races, with a total of $730,000 awarded in purses, on a grass turf course with hurdles that opened in 1941 as a Works Progress Administration project. The Nashville race was founded by members of the Hillsboro Hounds, another fox hunting club in the Nashville area.

Steeplechase racing and fox hunting are wedded together, said Stephen Heard, one of the trustees of the Iroquois Steeplechase and a member of the Mells Foxhounds group. The tradition came from the British Isles, where horses were raced from church steeple to church steeple and trained to jump obstacles like fences while hunting with dogs.

“Many of the horses that we use fox hunting are ex-steeplechase horses, Heard said.

With 25,000 spectators who are eating and drinking in tents and in the stands, the dogs need some time to adjust to the noise and smells.

“I took one dog last year and he heard the speakers and he said, ‘This is not for me,’” Charles Montgomery said.

“It’s high pressure,” said Boo Montgomery, one of the whippers-in. When a child held out a fried chicken leg through the rails one time, it was a temptation no hound could resist. “You couldn’t fault Brightly for stopping and having a snack,” she said, of one of the foxhounds.

Charles Montgomery said he usually will bring the veteran hunting hounds who can guide the younger ones along the course. On the morning of the race, the hounds bounded off their trailer, eager to sniff grass and chew on sticks and roll in the clover.

The hounds wear GPS-equipped collars whenever they hunt and when they come to the racetrack. That came in handy last year when a dog got spooked and took off into the wooded park nearby.

While the racetrack is not their normal working environment, the hounds seem to enjoy the challenge that comes with kicking off the horse races, Boo Montgomery said.

“It’s a great exposure for hunting to get to see these hounds and the horses,” Boo Montgomery said. “It’s nice to be able to show off.”

Amid ongoing peace negotiations, Iran has issued a warning of possible strikes on US-controlled locations in the Middle East, as specialists highlight a potential oversight in Iran’s progress toward developing nuclear weapons.

On Saturday night, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced plans for “heavy attacks” on American bases and vessels in the area, while the US president is still anticipating a response regarding peace accords aimed at ending the conflict.

According to AFP, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards stated, “Any attack on Iranian tankers and commercial vessels will result in a heavy attack on one of the American centers in the region and enemy ships.”

This latest threat from Tehran follows just a day after the US targeted two Iranian tankers in the Gulf of Oman.

The two nations are engaged in ongoing discussions about reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a vital international channel for Iran’s oil exports.

American officials hoped the standoff would lead to the end of Iran’s nuclear program, but experts have flagged a pathway through Tehran’s massive plutonium supply.  

According to nuclear weapons experts, Tehran’s plutonium reserve holds enough material for more than 200 nuclear bombs.

United Against Nuclear Iran policy director Jason Brodsky told Fox Digital that the US must ‘cover the plutonium pathway’ in any negotiations.

‘I do believe any proposed deal with Iran needs to address the plutonium pathway to nuclear weapons. Israel struck the Arak heavy water reactor twice over the last year — in June 2025 and in March 2026,’ he said. 

‘Intelligence suggested Iran had repeatedly attempted to reconstruct the facility even after the bombing, so any deal with Iran should cover the plutonium pathway.’

Nonproliferation Policy Education Center Executive Director Henry Sokolski explained that the US should closely monitor imports, exports and reactors in the port city of Bushehr.  

‘Pentagon should watch to make sure Iran does not remove any of the spent fuel at Bushehr,’ he said. ‘It could do this with space surveillance assets or, as it did in 2012, with drones. 

‘Second, any “peace” deal President Trump cuts with Tehran should include a requirement that there be near-real-time monitoring of the Bushehr reactor and spent fuel pond.’

A spokesperson for the State Department told Fox that Iran’s ‘nuclear program’ is a ‘threat to the United States and the entire world.’ 

‘Iran today stands in breach of its Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty obligations by failing to provide full cooperation with the IAEA,’ they said. 

‘Iran’s leadership must engage in serious diplomatic negotiations with the United States to resolve the nuclear issue once and for all.’

In an effort to tamp down Iran’s ability to acquire weapons altogether, the US imposed sanctions on Friday against ten of the country’s top suppliers.

‘While the surviving [Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps] leaders are trapped like rats in a sinking ship, the Treasury Department is unrelenting in our Economic Fury campaign,’ said Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent in a press release. 

‘Under President Trump’s decisive leadership, we will continue to act to Keep America Safe and target foreign individuals and companies providing Iran’s military with weapons for use against US forces.’

Trump claimed Friday that the White House was nearing a deal with Iran, and expected an answer from them that evening.  

‘We’re getting a letter [from Iran] supposedly tonight, so we’ll see how that goes,’ he told reporters.

In response to speculation that the Middle Eastern country was intentionally dragging out the deal, the president said: ‘I don’t know. We’ll find out soon.’

The countries agreed to a ceasefire last month, but US launched a round of ‘self-defense’ strikes against Iranian oil tankers on Friday as they attempted to port in the Gulf of Oman.

US Central Command said on Thursday that its forces intercepted an ‘unprovoked’ Iranian attack on three of its vessels as they transited the Strait of Hormuz to the Gulf of Oman.

Iranian leaders have condemned the US’s retaliatory actions. 

‘Every time a diplomatic solution is on the table, the US opts for a reckless military adventure,’ Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi said in a statement, the Daily Mail previously reported.

If peace talks fail to move forward, the president threatened to return to ‘Project Freedom,’ reported the New York Post. 

The initiative, which was initially axed, would require US destroyers to guide commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz. 

‘We may go back to Project Freedom if things don’t happen, but it’d be Project Freedom-plus, meaning Project Freedom plus other things,’ he said.
