Grandfather of Kumanjayi Little Urges Community for Peace and Unity

This article may be distressing to some readers.

In the wake of disturbing events at an Alice Springs hospital, where a man connected to the disappearance and death of five-year-old Kumanjayi Little Baby was receiving treatment, the child’s family has called for peace throughout Central Australia.

Speaking to NITV News on Saturday, Walpiri Elder Robin Granites, who considers himself the child’s grandfather, emphasized the importance of engaging in Sorry Business. “It is a time for honoring our family, for mourning and reflecting on the loss we have suffered,” he expressed.

“There is a palpable sense of emotional upheaval—feelings of anger and sorrow are overwhelming,” Granites noted, acknowledging the community’s intense emotions in response to the tragic events.

However, now was not the time “to be a hero on social media or to make trouble”, he said, adding that people from communities around Alice Springs should travel to the town for Sorry Business but “not for anything else”.

He said he hoped that people would respect the family’s wishes for Sorry Business — a period of collective mourning in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities — to remain small and carried out in cooperation with the family.

He said a public vigil would be held on Thursday next week at Alice Spring’s Anzac Oval and members of the public would be welcome to attend that event.

On Thursday night, several hundred people gathered outside Alice Springs hospital as news emerged that Jefferson Lewis, the 47-year-old man suspected of abducting and murdering Kumanjayi Little Baby, was being treated there.

Four ambulances were taken off the road and crews went into lockdown for about five hours as a riot escalated outside the hospital. Bins and vegetation were also set on fire and some nearby businesses were damaged.

One woman was arrested for allegedly attempting to set alight a police car and had been charged with attempted arson and riot charges, Northern Territory Police said in a statement on Saturday afternoon.

Lewis was subsequently airlifted to Darwin and is expected to be charged with murdering the child.

‘We need your support’

Granites also thanked the wider community for the flow of tributes to the family from across Australia.

“Whoever is watching: please, we need your support and your prayers and your wishes.”

The body of a girl, which police believe to be Kumanjayi Little Baby, was discovered at around midday on Thursday by police approximately 5km from Alice Springs’ Old Timers town camp, the place she was last seen on Sunday.

“What has happened this week is not our way. Our children are precious, of course,” Granites said.

He said Kumanjayi Little Baby’s young mother had been “hiding away” and the experience had been “so terrible for her”.

Sir Christian Turner Affirms the Unique Privilege of the US-UK Alliance

0

There’s an enduring, somewhat cynical notion that describes an ambassador as “an honest gentleman sent to lie abroad for the good of his country.” This notion suggests that the role of an ambassador often involves diplomatic deception to benefit their homeland. However, if this notion holds any truth, then the British ambassador to the United States seems to have missed the mark entirely on his diplomatic duties.

Sir Christian Turner, the current British ambassador, recently found himself in the spotlight for his candid remarks that exposed the frayed state of the relationship between Great Britain and the United States. His comments surfaced at a particularly sensitive time, coinciding with the visit of King Charles and Queen Camilla to Washington. Their visit aimed to smooth over tensions with President Trump, who had publicly criticized Prime Minister Keir Starmer for not supporting the US military actions in Iran.

The controversy began when the Financial Times released excerpts of a recording from a February meeting where Turner addressed a group of visiting British students. In his remarks, he expressed his discomfort with the term “special relationship” often used to describe the bond between the two nations. This candid admission, though perhaps diplomatically imprudent, highlighted the current challenges facing the historic alliance.

His words became public just as King Charles and Queen Camilla arrived in Washington to try to mend relations with President Trump, who has publicly bashed Prime Minister Keir Starmer for refusing to support the US war effort in Iran.

According to parts of a recording published by the Financial Times, Turner waded into trouble when he told visiting British students in February that he didn’t like the term “special relationship” to describe the link between the two countries.

The phrase, said to have been coined by Winston Churchill after the Allied victory in World War II, was meant to describe the bond between the US and the UK that had endured over the centuries and through two world wars.

Since then, it has also survived the Cold War and two Gulf Wars.

But Turner, who had just taken his post in Washington, was recorded as saying he wasn’t fond of the phrase because it was “quite nostalgic” and “backwards-looking,” while also suggesting it no longer applied.

He did tell the students, who were 16 and 17 years old, that UK-US ties were “strong” and that, “Particularly on defense and security, we are intertwined.”

Yet his government rebuked him when it said in a statement to CBS News that his remarks about the special relationship “are certainly not any reflection of the UK Government’s position.”

Perhaps, but there has been little that could be called “special” about the current state of bilateral relations.

Starmer has foolishly made common cause with anti-Trump leaders in France, Spain and Germany, almost as if he and they are as willing as Trump to break up the troubled NATO marriage.

Nonetheless, it was something else that Turner said to the students in February that carries far greater significance for today and the near future.

As such, it commands our attention.

Almost casually, Turner said it seemed to him that the only country that has a “special relationship” with the United States these days is “probably Israel.”

Whoa, Nellie.

From a historic perspective, that is a remarkable statement about the state of the West and the world as a whole.

And yet, I see no evidence that Turner’s observation is wrong.

Instead, his view accurately reflects the reality of the relationship between America and Israel, especially during the overlapping tenures of Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Europe’s failures

Their shared views about the need to confront Islamist governments and terrorists became apparent in Trump’s first term, when the two men worked to thwart Iran’s regional reach through its terror proxies.

Former President Barack Obama’s failure to enforce his red line in Syria, and his craven courting of Iran’s mullahs and their nuclear fever dreams, along with Palestinian hardliners, all served to incentivize the worst of the worst.

Trump took office in 2017 determined to change that failed course, and did so in dramatic ways.

He withdrew from Obama’s weak-tea nuclear pact, and his droning execution of Iran’s terror chief, Qasem Soleimani, was coupled with clear pro-Israeli changes.

He fulfilled America’s long-standing promise to move the US embassy to Jerusalem and recognized Israel’s annexation of the Golan Heights, making him the most popular American president ever in Israel.

He finished the term by birthing the Abraham Accords, which expanded the Jewish state’s security and trade relationships with Muslim and Arab neighbors.

The opening of a Kosher restaurant in Dubai marked a historic moment.

Trump’s first term was also marked by his rock-solid belief that our European partners in NATO had not been paying anywhere near a fair share of the costs of the defense pact.

As angry as he was at them, he also correctly faulted his presidential predecessors who had let the Europeans get away with failing to contribute enough of the costs of a system designed to keep the Soviet Union, and now Russia, at bay.

Although Trump has succeeded in getting most members to pay much more of the costs, there is also another key factor.

It involves how Germany, France and the UK, among other European allies, have hobbled themselves militarily and economically to build expansive and massively expensive welfare states.

To complicate matters even more, they opened their doors to as many as 25 million Muslim immigrants. Not surprisingly, the surge of antisemitism and violence against Jews continues across the continent.

One outgrowth is that European governments have become increasingly estranged from Israel, as if they fear the loudest domestic voices.

The public celebrations after the Hamas savagery on Oct. 7, 2023, along with the condemnations for Israel daring to defend itself in Gaza, made it sickeningly clear where much of Europe stood.

Powerful partnership

Although Joe Biden made a show of supporting Israel against Hamas, much of the Democratic Party was more sympathetic to the Palestinians, as if Israel had no right to defend itself and eliminate the attackers.

The overwrought charges of genocide, amplified by leftist media, fanned the coals of Jew-hatred and also cast doubt on America’s commitment to Israel’s survival.

Thankfully, Trump’s 2024 election stopped that trend, and although recent polls show declining support for Israel across the political spectrum, Republicans and conservatives remain the most resilient supporters.

For Israel, the very notion that it alone has a “special relationship” with America marks a breakout moment in its young history.

Its birth in 1948 and survival are testaments to a remarkable people who endured an effort to exterminate them and war after war when they reclaimed their ancient homeland.

And now, as Ambassador Turner noted, Israel has a unique connection to the most powerful nation in human history and an American president who largely shares its worldview.

The future is not guaranteed, of course, especially with both nations having important elections this year.

More immediately, the tag-team partnership against Iran has done enormous damage to the mullahs’ fantasies of destroying the “little Satan” and the “great Satan” but has not yet succeeded in its three main objectives: ending Iran’s nuclear ambitions and ballistic missile programs, while also stopping its support for terror proxies.

The one certainty so far is that Israel has proved itself worthy of being the lone nation to have a “special relationship” with America.

Its resourcefulness, courage and commitment have made the two-country alliance extraordinarily powerful — and uniquely righteous.

Long may it endure and prevail.

Open Heaven 3 May 2026 TOPIC – What Do You Want From God Today?

MEMORISE: I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: – Deuteronomy 30:19 (KJV)

READ: Joshua 5:1-14 (KJV)

1 And it came to pass, when all the kings of the Amorites, which were on the side of Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, which were by the sea, heard that the Lord had dried up the waters of Jordan from before the children of Israel, until we were passed over, that their heart melted, neither was there spirit in them any more, because of the children of Israel.

2 At that time the Lord said unto Joshua, Make thee sharp knives, and circumcise again the children of Israel the second time.

3 And Joshua made him sharp knives, and circumcised the children of Israel at the hill of the foreskins.

4 And this is the cause why Joshua did circumcise: All the people that came out of Egypt, that were males, even all the men of war, died in the wilderness by the way, after they came out of Egypt.

5 Now all the people that came out were circumcised: but all the people that were born in the wilderness by the way as they came forth out of Egypt, them they had not circumcised.

6 For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people that were men of war, which came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they obeyed not the voice of the Lord: unto whom the Lord sware that he would not shew them the land, which the Lord sware unto their fathers that he would give us, a land that floweth with milk and honey.

7 And their children, whom he raised up in their stead, them Joshua circumcised: for they were uncircumcised, because they had not circumcised them by the way.

8 And it came to pass, when they had done circumcising all the people, that they abode in their places in the camp, till they were whole.

9 And the Lord said unto Joshua, This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you. Wherefore the name of the place is called Gilgal unto this day.

10 And the children of Israel encamped in Gilgal, and kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the month at even in the plains of Jericho.

11 And they did eat of the old corn of the land on the morrow after the passover, unleavened cakes, and parched corn in the selfsame day.

12 And the manna ceased on the morrow after they had eaten of the old corn of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.

13 And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?

14 And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the Lord am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my Lord unto his servant?

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Chronicles 13-16

Open Heaven 3 May 2026 MESSAGE

Some people are so comfortable with their problems that they reject every form of help that comes their way. For example, one would have thought that Jesus would have immediately commanded the man who had been sick for 38 years in today’s Bible reading to rise from his sickbed. However, the first thing Jesus asked him was, “Do you want to be made whole?” Jesus didn’t assume that the man wanted to be healed; He first asked him if he wanted to be healed before healing him.

And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him, Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight. – Luke 18:40-41

In the Scripture above, Jesus heard a blind man crying out to Him for help. When He asked that the man be brought before Him, He didn’t assume that he needed healing, even though he was obviously blind. He proceeded to ask him, “What do you want me to do for you?”

There was once a woman who was sick, and we prayed earnestly for her to get well. When she didn’t get any better, we were surprised because we know that our God is the Great Physician. Therefore, we turned to Him and asked, “Father, what’s wrong? Is there anything we should be doing that we are not?” Then, He replied, “You are praying for healing for this woman, but have you asked her if she wants to be healed?” I thought to myself, “Of course, every sick fellow wants to be well,” but the Lord insisted that I ask her if she truly wanted to be healed. I did, and she responded, “No!” Surprised, I asked her why, and she replied, “When I was well, my husband always returned late from work. He would go from his workplace to a club. Since I became sick, he comes straight home to me as soon as he leaves his workplace. So, I don’t want to be well!”

Beloved, God has set before you life and death, blessing and curses, prosperity and poverty, freedom and bondage; however, He will not force His gift of healing, life, or salvation on anyone. If you are dealing with sickness, poverty, or any other negative situation in your life, cry out to God today if you indeed want a miracle from Him. He will heed your cry and meet you at the point of your needs.

Fire Forces Student Evacuation at Florida University Building

0

A devastating blaze engulfed a prominent science facility at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg on Saturday, casting huge plumes of smoke skyward and raising serious concerns over the potential loss of decades worth of research.

Firefighters from St. Petersburg Fire Rescue swiftly responded to the alarming scene at 140 7th Avenue South, where flames were seen erupting through the rooftop of the two-story structure, known as the university’s historic Marine Science Laboratory, which has stood for over 80 years.

The situation quickly intensified into a second-alarm emergency, as numerous firefighting units converged on the area. In response to the escalating danger, streets were closed off and collapse zones were set up amid fears that the building might not withstand the inferno.

Both students and staff were left in shock, watching helplessly as the fire ravaged a facility many consider the epicenter of the campus’s scientific endeavors.

Expressing the mounting concern over the incident, one student took to social media to share their worries: “All of our research and chemicals are stored there, including what’s required in the chemistry classes,” emphasizing the potential threat posed by hazardous materials within the facility.

Another warned the damage could be irreversible. ‘The building on fire doesn’t just store paper. It stores entire careers of samples… hurricane research, red tide research, fish and ecology research,’ the student said, describing collections gathered over years of fieldwork that ‘cannot be replaced.’

The scale of the destruction was visible for miles around as thick, dark smoke billowed high above the campus and surrounding neighborhoods.

Witnesses on the ground described a scene of shock and devastation. Faculty member Frank Biafora told the Tampa Bay Times: ‘We have faculty members who have research labs there. This looks like total devastation… We’ve all been checking in on each other.’

He added that shifting winds may have prevented an even more dangerous situation.

‘We are actually quite lucky that the wind is taking this to the east of us because we have residence halls and a whole lot of students on this campus. If it was coming west, it could be really dangerous right now.’

USF sailing coach Alison Jolly also watched anxiously as flames crept toward nearby boats, fearing the worst. ‘This looks like a total, total loss… it’s one thing to have  equipment ruined, but to have years of research go up in flames is so sad,’ she to the Tampa Bay Times. ‘We’ve all been checking in on each other.’

Authorities confirmed the building was evacuated and no injuries have been reported.

However, officials described the incident as a potential hazmat situation due to the dozens of chemicals that stored inside the science labs.

Officials confirmed the fire escalated to a second alarm, signaling the seriousness of the situation, with streets around the building sealed off as a precaution in case of a collapse.

Authorities say the structure, described as a non-residential commercial property, was evacuated quickly.

Kim Jong Un Unveils Radical Battlefield Strategy in North Korea: A Game-Changing Doctrine

This article contains discussions of suicide. If you or someone you know is experiencing suicidal thoughts, please reach out to the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by dialing 988 or 1-800-273-TALK (8255).

Kim Jong Un, the leader of North Korea, has recently lauded soldiers who chose to end their own lives rather than be taken as prisoners by Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region. This acknowledgment offers a stark confirmation of a battlefield strategy that officials and intelligence services have long scrutinized as one of Pyongyang’s most extreme approaches.

According to a report by Reuters, which cited North Korean state media outlet KCNA, Kim expressed admiration on Monday for those troops who opted for “self-destruction and suicide” over surrender. His remarks were made during a memorial ceremony attended by Russian officials and grieving families, commemorating North Korean soldiers who lost their lives in combat.

Kim stated, “It is not only the heroes who unhesitatingly chose the path of self-destruction and suicide to defend great honor, but also those who fell while charging at the forefront of assault battles.”

This is the first occasion where Kim has openly recognized the extreme measures taken by North Korean forces fighting alongside Russia to avoid capture by Ukrainian troops.

North Korea deployed an estimated 14,000 troops to Russia’s western Kursk region to support Moscow’s war effort, according to South Korean, Ukrainian and Western officials cited by Reuters. Those same officials say the forces suffered staggering losses, with more than 6,000 North Korean soldiers believed killed in some of the war’s most intense fighting.

For months, intelligence reports, battlefield evidence and defector testimony have pointed to a grim directive: North Korean troops were expected to detonate grenades or otherwise take their own lives rather than risk capture.

That policy appears to have extended even to the few who survived. According to The Guardian, two North Korean soldiers captured by Ukrainian forces and now held as prisoners of war in Kyiv both reportedly attempted to blow themselves up but were unable to do so because of severe injuries. One of the captured soldiers has reportedly expressed guilt over failing to carry out those orders.

Kim’s latest speech appears to transform those reports from battlefield allegations into publicly praised state doctrine.

“Those who writhed in frustration at failing to fulfill their duty as soldiers rather than suffering the agony of their bodies being torn apart by bullets and shells — these too can be called the party’s loyal warriors and patriots,” Kim added.

The statement underscores the ideological intensity imposed on North Korean forces, whose loyalty to the regime appears to extend beyond combat to self-destruction.

The revelation also highlights the deepening military relationship between Pyongyang and Moscow.

According to South Korean intelligence assessments, North Korea has provided not only troops but also munitions to Russia, while receiving economic aid and military technology in return.

Revitalize Your Memories: Discover How ‘Free the Tapes’ Transforms Home Videos in Washington County

SANDERSVILLE, Ga. () — This weekend, a community preservation initiative is set to transform cherished family memories into digital formats in Washington County.

The event is part of the “Free the Tapes” project spearheaded by the University of Georgia Libraries’ Brown Media Archives and Peabody Awards Collection.

Scheduled for Saturday, May 2, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., the gathering will be held at the Washington County Chamber of Commerce in Sandersville.

Individuals who provided their old home movies earlier this year will have the opportunity to view and collect their newly digitized versions during the event.

This program offers residents the chance to convert obsolete formats, such as VHS tapes, into digital files, ensuring that these family treasures are preserved for future generations.

Organizers say the project has already digitized more than 500 family films through previous events in Athens, Georgia.

The initiative is part of a partnership with the University of Georgia’s Archway Partnership program.

Organizers say the goal is to preserve personal history while making it accessible on modern devices.

Liberty Set for Final Preseason Opportunity to Refine Strategies

0

The Liberty’s final preseason game, set for Sunday against the Connecticut Sun, isn’t focused on the outcome but serves a greater purpose.

This matchup acts as a vital checkpoint for the Liberty, offering coach Chris DeMarco the opportunity to test various lineup combinations and gauge the team’s grasp of the new offensive strategies. He aims to observe the chemistry, rhythm, and overall progress since their first preseason encounter.

With New York’s roster packed with talent, winning on skill alone is possible. However, DeMarco has stressed since the start of training camp two weeks ago that the team must adhere to a structured process without skipping any steps.

The integration of a new offensive flow and the refinement of defensive strategies is envisioned as a gradual development rather than a rapid overhaul.

DeMarco is intentionally introducing new concepts in stages, focusing on establishing a solid framework over spontaneous play.

He wants the Liberty to focus on establishing good habits right now rather than creating flashy highlights.

“It’s important that we build this thing the right way,” DeMarco said Friday, “and everything we do is for October.”

The Liberty’s first preseason game on April 25 was riddled with flaws.

It was clear timing and positioning remained a work in progress. The team committed 22 turnovers.

Upon reviewing the film, Sabrina Ionescu said the team executed the correct actions less than 30 percent of the time.

The coaches weren’t mad or disappointed by the low execution. It’s to be expected considering the drastic changes the team has made from last season.

“It’s just building from the last one we had,” Ionescu said. “The first one, it was four days into learning the new offense and was a little clunky and everybody was out of position… This is normal. Until everyone starts to learn where they have to go, it’s all a part of the learning process, and so I think this next game for us is first, getting that number above what it was last game, but continuing to build and chip away and little by little everything will feel really easy and not have to think about it.”

Adding complexity to the situation is the fact that the Liberty are not yet at full strength.

Marine Johannès and Pauline Astier joined the team in recent days, but the Liberty are still without Leonie Fiebich and Raquel Carrera, who are expected to remain with their Spanish club Valencia until the season ends later this month.

Others, including Rebecca Allen, Satou Sabally and Betnijah Laney-Hamilton, have been limited participants in practice, at times, as they ramp up for the season.

Sunday’s game doesn’t need to be perfect, but the Liberty need to show that they’re making progress as Friday’s season opener draws near.

Are they making the correct reads? Is the spacing more consistent? Are defensive switches happening instinctively rather than being delayed? Are they communicating well? Are they stringing together good possessions rather than executing in isolated instances?

“It’s really about just getting our spacing down for when we drive, what are our relocations going to look like, are we going to reshape,” DeMarco said. “There’s so much for this team to learn just with the new staff for us to kind of figure out what works together so that we can grow together.”

DeMarco plans to add more complexity to the team’s offense as the season progresses. But right now, the goal is to make the simple things second nature so when the time comes for the playbook to expand, players aren’t thinking so much and just executing.

Ionescu said the coaching staff has done a good job at breaking things down to the granular level. They’re explaining the reasoning behind every action and movement, which Ionescu believes is helpful.

“There’s times where your job is to do something that involves nothing with the ball, and as a player, if you understand, like, ‘I’m doing this because it’s creating a shot for my teammate,’ you better be doing it to the fullest of your ability because you have to for the team,” she said. “And so there’s a why to everything no matter what it is we’re doing… I feel like when as a player, when you know all of that, it’s almost like you kind of understand the importance of doing it and with the speed that you have to do it at.”

Deputies Report Shooting Incident Following Dispute in Mount Dora Residence

In Mount Dora, Florida, law enforcement, including Lake County deputies and Mount Dora police, swiftly responded to a report of a verbal altercation at a residence on Cheval Street around 8:48 a.m. this past Saturday, according to official reports.

Authorities revealed that a male resident of the home discharged a firearm at another man who had entered the premises through an unlocked sliding glass door.

The investigation uncovered that the intruder had initially knocked and pounded on the doors and windows of the house before gaining entry via the unlocked sliding door. He then proceeded to forcefully enter the resident’s bedroom, prompting the homeowner to shoot him twice in response.

Further details from deputies identified the shooter as the homeowner. Meanwhile, the individual who was shot was discovered to be the estranged husband of the homeowner’s girlfriend. The woman involved disclosed that she and the injured man are currently undergoing divorce proceedings.

The injured man was reported to be conscious and breathing, and he was promptly transported to a nearby hospital for medical care.

No arrests have been made, and names will not be released because the investigation is active, deputies said. The investigation remains ongoing.

Police Search for Suspect After Man Shot in Chest on Jacksonville’s Eastside
