30-Year-Old Suspect Allegedly Ignited Palisades Fire Over Trivial Dispute

0

The individual charged with igniting the catastrophic Palisades Fire in Los Angeles last year reportedly held disdain for wealthy individuals and was disheartened by his lack of New Year’s Eve plans, according to court documents.

Jonathan Rinderknecht, 30, is portrayed as a disgruntled and embittered man who harbored resentment towards society, believing himself to be “enslaved” by the affluent, as detailed in a recent prosecutorial memorandum submitted prior to his trial.

The tragic inferno claimed the lives of 12 people, scorched over 23,400 acres, and obliterated more than 6,800 structures when it tore through the California community in January 2025.

Rinderknecht, facing three federal charges in connection with the fire, also allegedly fixated on Luigi Mangione, an Ivy League alumnus accused of vigilante murder in the killing of a prominent healthcare executive in New York City.

According to a trial memorandum obtained by the Daily Mail, prosecutors highlighted statements from many of Rinderknecht’s Uber passengers on December 31, 2024, and January 1, 2025. They depicted him as angry and intense, driving recklessly while venting frustrations about “being pissed off at the world,” Luigi Mangione, capitalism, and vigilantism. He was reportedly also upset about not receiving invitations for New Year’s Eve festivities.

After his arrest, the alleged arsonist was asked by investigators why someone might start a fire in the Pacific Palisades.

He allegedly gave the answer: ‘Out of resentment of the rich enjoying their money as ‘we’re basically being enslaved by them’ and compared such an act of ‘desperation’ to the murder for which Mangione was charged,’ the memo stated.

Rinderknecht was ‘fixated’ on suspected murderer Mangione, the court documents stated. Mangione, 28, is in jail awaiting trial for the murder of Brian Thompson, the UnitedHealthcare CEO who was gunned down on the street in Midtown Manhattan.

In the month before the horrific fire erupted, Rinderknecht searched online for the terms ‘free Luigi Mangione,’ ‘lets take down all the billionaires,’ and ‘reddit lets kill all the billionaires,’ according to the memo.

The new filing also alluded to Rinderknecht’s alleged historic obsession with fires.

Rinderknecht was in an argument with his sister in April 2025, when he ‘blew up’ at her and threatened to burn her house down, the filing said. Her family, whom Rinderknecht was staying with at the time, called 911 on him multiple times.

In August 2024, Rinderknecht allegedly burned a Bible and described the act as ‘necessary’ and ‘amazing,’ the filing claimed.

Authorities have traced the Palisades Fire back to the smaller Lachman Fire, which Rinderknecht is accused of igniting just after midnight on January 1.

The Lachman Fire appeared to be contained by firefighters at the time, but it continued to ‘smolder and burn underground.’

This led to January 7 – when heavy winds picked up and flames began spreading in what became known as the Palisades Fire that decimated the neighborhood.

On the fateful night that the fire was started, Rinderknecht allegedly dropped off an Uber passenger and tried to contact an ex-lover, who did not reply to him.

He scaled the Buddha Hill clearing, and listened to a rap song about ‘despair,’ whose music video included things being lit on fire, the memo stated.

Rinderknecht then lit a fire and by 12.12am on New Year’s Day, he was watching the blaze grow on Buddha Hill. He then called 911 many times, according to the memo.

Rinderknecht’s attorney said at a hearing in October that he shouldn’t be penalized for the Palisades Fire when he allegedly started the smaller one beforehand.

‘My client is being charged with a fire that started seven days after,’ attorney Steve Haney said.

Rinderknecht pleaded not guilty to the three charges relating to the Palisades fire – one count of destruction of property by means of fire, one of arson affecting property, and one of timber set afire. His trial is set to begin on June 8.

If convicted, the suspected arsonist faces up to 45 years in prison.

Shocking Bathroom Dispute: Parent Allegedly Assaults Child, Police Report Reveals

Authorities in Florida have charged a mother with assaulting a 10-year-old girl over a bathroom dispute at a daycare, believing the child was monopolizing the restroom needed for her own daughter. The incident unfolded in Panama City, involving Latoya Gaines, 48, according to law enforcement reports.

On April 24, Gaines arrived at a Bay County daycare center intending to collect her 5-year-old and another child. A disagreement erupted over access to a single-occupancy restroom, as detailed in the arrest affidavit. Gaines reportedly became confrontational with the young girl over using the facility.

The affidavit states that Gaines insisted the child vacate the restroom for her daughter’s use. When the child asked Gaines to wait her turn, the situation quickly intensified.

According to police, Gaines allegedly struck the 10-year-old in the face with a closed fist, resulting in noticeable bruising around the girl’s eye. After the assault, Gaines departed the scene on foot with her children.

Witnesses at the daycare substantiated the events described by the victim’s mother, who reported the incident. When officers attempted to contact Gaines at her home, she was not present, as noted in the affidavit.

Gaines was reached over the phone and she allegedly admitted to being involved in the “altercation inside the daycare,” per the affidavit. “[The victim’s mother] advised she wished to pursue charges,” the document says.

A Facebook account with the name Latoya Gaines, from Panama City, wrote on April 29 that Gaines was innocent and being falsely accused.

“Everyone in this lil city where everyone knows everyone buisness [sic]….Did anyone stop & think about what was said & thought this is not the Latoya Gaines I know,” the account wrote in all caps. “Because if you know me you would know without a doubt I did not do this…. I’m sure their [sic] are some people that are gonna say negative stuff cause that’s what sone [sic] people would think but like I’ve I said if you know me then you would say to yourself this is not true It’s a bold face Lie.”

Gaines is facing a felony charge of child abuse. She is out on bond and due to be arraigned in Bay County on June 11.

The daycare did not respond to Law&Crime’s requests for comment on Monday.

Shocking Revenge Attack: Man Accused of Stabbing Ex-Girlfriend’s Son During Sleep After Breakup

A former lover has been accused of a shocking attack, allegedly breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s residence and assaulting her son while he was asleep.

Robert Schreiber faces multiple charges, including second-degree attempted murder, burglary, assault, weapon possession, child endangerment, and harassment, as detailed in a press release issued on May 1 by the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office in New York.

“This was a brutal assault on a young man in his own home,” stated District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney. “Domestic violence often doesn’t stop with a relationship’s end; it can intensify. We are committed to prosecuting this case vigorously to secure justice for the victim and his family.”

The incident reportedly occurred a day after Schreiber’s girlfriend ended their relationship, barring him from their Patchogue home. According to the release, on April 18, Schreiber allegedly gained entry through an unlocked window.

Once inside, while the household was asleep, Schreiber allegedly proceeded to the 22-year-old son’s room, forced his way in, and stabbed him seven times in the head, neck, and shoulder. Family members intervened and contacted emergency services. The unidentified victim managed to flee downstairs and was later transported to NYU Langone Hospital, where he received multiple staples for his injuries.

When police arrested Schreiber, they found a knife in his possession, according to the press release.

The 42-year-old is being held in the Suffolk County Jail on a $1,000,000 bond, according to the press release.

An attorney for Schrieber did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Oxygen. His next court date is May 28.

If convicted of attempted murder, Schrieber faces up to 25 years in prison, according to prosecutors.

Veteran NY Detective Confronts Alabama Fraternity Member Over Alleged Assault on Daughter

A student from the University of Alabama and member of a fraternity found himself in legal trouble following accusations of assault against his former girlfriend, an event that quickly gained widespread attention online. This incident set off a sequence of events culminating in repercussions for the young woman’s father, a seasoned police officer from Long Island, who is now facing his own legal challenges after allegedly confronting the accused.

Ryan Jeffery DellaFranco, aged 20, became the focus of a police investigation after allegedly attacking his 19-year-old ex-girlfriend on a Sunday, described by the Tuscaloosa Police Department as a “domestic dispute.” Although no immediate arrests were made at the time of the incident, DellaFranco subsequently faced charges of third-degree domestic violence and assault.

In response to the charges, DellaFranco voluntarily surrendered to authorities and secured his release upon posting a $500 bond. The reported incidents of domestic violence are said to have occurred at two different locations within Tuscaloosa.

Police said the alleged domestic violence incidents took place at two residences in Tuscaloosa.

Before DellaFranco turned himself in, a Tuscaloosa police spokeswoman told Fox News Digital that the victim’s father showed up to his front porch and “made threats to harm him.” The father is a veteran detective with the Nassau County Police Department. His current status with the department was not immediately clear.

The man was charged with harassment and released on a $500 bond. Fox News Digital is not identifying the woman’s father to protect the victim’s identity.

Authorities did not provide additional details on what led to the alleged assault by DellaFranco and his ex-girlfriend.

Revolutionizing Wildfire Prevention: How AI is Transforming Early Detection in the Western US

0

On a March afternoon, an artificial intelligence system identified what appeared to be smoke through a camera feed monitoring Arizona’s Coconino National Forest. After human analysts confirmed it wasn’t a cloud or dust, they promptly notified the state’s forest service and the region’s largest electric utility.

This alert came from one of many AI cameras installed by Arizona Public Service, which successfully detected the initial signs of what would later be named the Diamond Fire. Firefighters swiftly responded and managed to contain the blaze before it expanded beyond 7 acres (roughly 2.8 hectares).

With concerns mounting over potential severe wildfires due to record-breaking heat and a poor snowpack, fire-prone states across the Western U.S. are increasingly incorporating AI into their wildfire detection strategies, hoping this technology will help protect lives and properties.

Arizona Public Service currently operates nearly 40 AI smoke-detection cameras and plans to increase this number to 71 by the end of summer. The state’s fire agency has also deployed seven additional cameras. Meanwhile, Xcel Energy, another utility company based in Colorado, has installed 126 cameras and intends to expand their presence to seven out of the eight states it services by the year’s end.

“Earlier detection means we can launch aircraft and personnel to it and keep those fires as small as we can,” explained John Truett, the fire management officer for the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management.

Where there are fewer eyes, AI looks for fires

ALERTCalifornia is a network of some 1,240 AI-enabled cameras across the Golden State that work similar to the system in Arizona.

Human intervention keeps the risk of false positives low and trains the technology to become more accurate, said Neal Driscoll, geology and geophysics professor at the University of California, San Diego, and founder of ALERTCalifornia.

“The AI that’s being run on the cameras is actually beating 911 calls,” he said.

In Arizona, California and beyond, the technology is mostly used in high-risk areas that are sparsely populated, rural or remote, where a blaze might not be quickly spotted by human eyes.

“It’s just the ones where we won’t get a 911 call for a long time, it is extremely helpful to have that AI always monitoring that camera,” said Brent Pascua, battalion chief for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, or Cal Fire. “In many cases, we’ve started a response before 911 was even called, and in a few cases, we’ve actually started a response, went there, put the fire out, and never received a 911 call.”

A technology driven by worsening blazes

Pano AI, whose technology combines high-definition camera feeds, satellite data and AI monitoring, has seen a growing interest in its cameras since launching in 2020. They’ve been deployed in Australia, Canada and 17 U.S. states, including Oregon, Washington and Texas. Its customers include forestry operations, government agencies and utilities, including Arizona Public Service.

Last year, its technology detected 725 wildfires in the U.S., the company said.

“In many of these situations, we hear from stakeholders that the visual intelligence, the time, really, really gives them a head start and some of these could have taken off into hundreds if not thousands of acres,” said Arvind Satyam, the company’s co-founder and chief commercial officer.

Cindy Kobold, an Arizona Public Service meteorologist, said the technology notifies them about 45 minutes faster on average than the first 911 call.

Satyam said development of the technology was driven by the lack of hardened solutions to combat worsening wildfires. Climate change — caused by burning oil, gas and coal — is warming the planet and fueling dry conditions that supercharge infernos, making them burn hotter, faster and more frequently. The technology helps firefighters to safely and effectively respond while protecting communities and infrastructure, he said.

Challenges and limitations

One of the biggest obstacles to implementation is the price tag; Pano AI, for instance, charges around $50,000 annually per camera. The cost also includes fire risk analysis and 24/7 intelligence center.

False alarms present a challenge, which can be costly in terms of time and attention, said Patrick Roberts, a senior researcher with the nonprofit research group RAND who recently finished a project on accelerating innovation in wildfire management.

And when the AI accurately detects a fire, it doesn’t tell stakeholders the best course of action.

“Do you send help right away? Do you monitor? Should you worry about it? Where do you send help? Do you think about evacuation? All this still requires people and decision support systems,” said Roberts.

In highly populated areas, people tend to spot and call in fires pretty quickly, and the tech is not so useful when extreme weather events, such as hurricane-force winds, intensify and rapidly shift the flames, as happened in Los Angeles last year.

Pascua says the technology complements Cal Fire’s work.

“As the fire moves and shifts around, that’s where the human factor comes in and decides which tactics are best in fighting the fire. AI can only do so much,” he said. “It just provides that real time information where we can make better decisions on the fire ground.”

AI firefighting assistance is not limited to detection

AI can also be employed to identify the best places to thin vegetation and burn cool fires, and even to monitor air quality for signs of smoke, just like your home’s carbon monoxide sensor, said Roberts, but “1,000 times more sensitive.”

At George Mason University in Virginia, professor Chaowei “Phil” Yang is working with researchers from California State University of Los Angeles, the city of LA and NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory to create a system that forecasts where a fire will burn and which communities will be hardest hit by smoke pollution.

The idea is to give agencies real-time maps so they can make quick, life-saving decisions about evacuations, school and road closures, and send out early air quality warnings. Yang said they hope the technology will be operational in three years.

“AI in wildfires, it’s no longer just speculative. It’s really being used,” said Roberts, and it’s use will only continue to grow.

“The future is AI everywhere,” he said, “and the lines will blur between AI wildfire detection and just wildfire detection as the lines will blur in other areas of our life.”

Former Erwin Police Chief and Others Deny Charges in Misconduct Trial

ERWIN, Tenn. (WJHL) — In a significant legal development, former Erwin Police Chief Regan Tilson, alongside two other former members of the Erwin Police Department, faced arraignment on Monday over charges of official misconduct. These charges emerge from an investigation conducted by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI).

During the court proceedings, Regan Tilson, Tiffany Tilson, and ex-police captain Gary Edwards each entered not guilty pleas in response to the allegations leveled against them.

Tiffany Tilson previously served as the department’s operations officer, while Gary Edwards held the position of police captain.

Lauren Sanchez and Anna Wintour Make a Pre-Met Gala Appearance Amid Speculation

Lauren Sanchez appeared notably reserved as she accompanied the iconic Anna Wintour in the lead-up to one of the fashion world’s most anticipated events.

The 56-year-old Sanchez was seen alongside the former Vogue editor, now 76, during a press conference on Monday morning dedicated to the 2026 Met Gala.

Wintour made a bold statement with her attire, donning an eye-catching emerald green jacket. She paired this with a vibrant marigold and lilac floral skirt, completing her look with stylish heeled boots.

Her ensemble was quintessentially springtime, topped off with her trademark sleek bob and ever-present sunglasses as she guided Sanchez to their seats.

Meanwhile, Sanchez exuded a more subdued aura, trailing Wintour. Her hair was elegantly styled in a sculpted updo, complemented by diamond earrings. She chose a classic look with a gray houndstooth dress by John Galliano and paired it with black pumps.

The dress, which showed off Sanchez’s svelte figure, is from the 1995 spring collection.

Last night, Jeff Bezos, 62, and his wife were spotted arriving at the pre-Met Gala party in New York City.

The Amazon founder and former journalist looked stylish as they stepped out of a black Cadillac SUV ahead of fashion’s biggest night.

It comes amid claims the couple shelled out $10 million to co-chair the annual gala alongside Wintour, who remains Chief Content Officer for Condé Nast and Global Editorial Director of Vogue, with Chloe Malle taking over day-to-day editorial and creative operations of Vogue.

From the moment their involvement in this year’s Met Gala was revealed, the couple was met with instant backlash.

The Amazon tycoon, who is worth an estimated $224.2 billion, and his wife are footing most of the bill for the May 4 event.

In response, posters created by anti-capitalist groups have been plastered on lampposts and billboards in the Manhattan streets near the Metropolitan Museum of Art. They sport scathing messages calling for a ‘boycott’ of ‘The Bezos Met Gala… brought to you by worker exploitation.’

Vogue grande dame Anna Wintour, who has overseen fashion’s biggest annual event for 30 years, had previously attempted to quiet the growing furor by gushing in an interview about the couple and insisting that Sanchez would be a ‘wonderful asset to the museum and the event.’

‘We are very grateful for her incredible generosity,’ Wintour told CNN of Sanchez in November. ‘So we are thrilled she’s part of the night.’

Sadly, those efforts appear to have done little to quell public outcry, with some stars boycotting the event.

Bella Hadid hit out at stars set to attend the Met Gala over the Amazon boss’ position as co-chair of the event.

The supermodel, 29, who has attended the gala five times, liked a video by internet personality Meredith Lynch on Instagram stating: ‘You cannot wear the ICE out pin to the Jeff Bezos-backed MET Gala. Jeff Bezos is part of the reason we’re in this mess.’

The comment was in reference to the controversy surrounding the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)’s expanded mass deportation initiative under the Trump administration earlier this year.

Hadid is joined in her sentiments by stars including Zendaya, who is snubbing the fashion world’s biggest event, and Meryl Streep, who pulled out as co-chair.

However, the couple is used to controversy.

Their lavish June 2025 Venice wedding was met with protests, while the Bezos-owned privatized space endeavor, Blue Origin, which saw Sanchez Bezos go to space with an all-female crew in April 2025, was derided as ‘gluttonous.’

The theme for this year’s Met Gala is Costume Art, while the dress code is Fashion Is Art.

The co-chairs additionally include Beyonce, Venus Williams, Nicole Kidman and also Wintour.

Shocking Arrest: Senate Candidate Accused of Threatening Trump and Congress Sparks Nationwide Outrage

0

In a startling development, a man from Pennsylvania faces federal charges after the FBI uncovered that he made explicit death threats directed at a member of Congress, the Congress member’s daughter, and former President Donald Trump. These threats allegedly occurred from April 2025 until January of this year.

The FBI’s criminal complaint, filed in the Western District of Pennsylvania, accuses Raymond Chandler III of making these threats as he prepared to launch a campaign for the U.S. Senate as a Democrat in the 2028 election cycle. The charges against Chandler include influencing, impeding, or retaliating against a federal official by threatening their family and making threats against a federal official.

The accusations are based on an affidavit that details Chandler’s initial threatening communication. It is alleged that he left his first voicemail for the unnamed Congress member on April 18, 2025.

trump assassination raymond chandler

In one of the voicemails, Chandler reportedly painted a vivid and ominous picture. “Sir, I have, uh, I’m calling this morning ’cause I want you to imagine a scenario,” the voicemail allegedly began. “I want you to imagine a scenario where all the 1,200 billionaires in this country, all their properties are surrounded simultaneously by a thousand people,” Chandler’s message continued.

Raymond Chandler, whose campaign aims to secure a Senate seat, is now at the center of this federal investigation. A photograph on his campaign website shows him sitting outside, dressed in a teal polo shirt and suspenders, though the date of the image remains unspecified.

“So imagine your house, your daughter’s house, everyone you know and love who is also rich. Imagine every single one of those homes being surrounded by a thousand people,” it continued. “Then imagine them all getting a text and then, then suddenly taking out their pocket knives, walking slowly towards your house with 10, you got your 10 guards or whatever against a thousand people, and then they come and they pull you out of your house and they slit your throat and they slit your daughter’s throat and they slit everyone’s throat. That you know, sir, that is the future. It’s not a future I want, it’s not a future I’m advocating for, but wealth concentration has gotten so bad in this country. The greed has gotten so bad. People are suffering so much, sir, that that is what is in our future. You will not escape their wrath. We must redistribute the wealth away from people like you.”

On Chandler’s campaign website, “Tax the Billionaires” is emblazoned atop a list of 16 priorities should he be elected. He is also focused on other far-left proposals like abolishing ICE and establishing universal basic income. He hopes to unseat Sen. John Fetterman, D-Penn. in 2028.

On April 29, 2025, according to the affidavit, Chandler called the same member of Congress, this time directing him to kill Trump.

“You’ve probably getting quite used to my voice. Sir, I’m calling this evening because what I want you to do is I want you to take a firearm. I want you to put it in your hand. I want you to walk into the Oval Office. I want you to put that firearm to the President’s head, and I want you to pull the trigger and I want you to kill him,” that voicemail said, according to the complaint. “I am petitioning you, Senator for redress of grievances. My redress of grievances is that this president is awful . . . He’s a liar among all liars. He’s a great deceiver. He’s the antichrist. I want you to walk into the Oval Office with a gun in your hand. I want you to put it to his temple, and I want you to pull the trigger.”

“That is what I want you to do as my agent. That’s what I want you to do as my elected official. That’s what I am petitioning you to do with my free speech,” the message continued. “I want you to kill the President. I want you to assassinate the President. That’s what I want you to do. Now, Senator, are you gonna come after me? Are you going to try me because of my voice and what I said?”

The affidavit cites other voicemails left for the member of Congress, including two on April 28, 2025.

In the first message, he allegedly “communicated his concern that some people would be sent to death camps and that he recently bought a seven-inch combat knife and a dagger because he is terrified that his government would kill him.”

In the second, he allegedly “communicated his support for armed resistance against ICE, along with his willingness to go to war and to ‘personally kill.’”

In another message from Jan. 12 of this year, Chandler is accused of again calling the member of Congress and saying that “violence has become necessary,” and communicating his intent to “organize armed resistance against ICE and identified those who deserve death, to include President Trump.”

Chandler’s May 1 arrest came less than a week after an armed gunman, Cole Allen, allegedly attempted to rush the ballroom of the Washington Hilton Hotel where the White House Correspondents’ Dinner was being held. Trump was present at the dinner, along with high-profile cabinet officials. Prosecutors say Allen wanted to kill Trump and members of his administration.

“On May 1, the U.S. Secret Service, in collaboration with the FBI, arrested an individual in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania who allegedly made threatening statements toward federal officials, including President Trump. Threats against our protectees will not be tolerated,” the Secret Service told Fox News Digital. “We will continue to work alongside our law enforcement partners to ensure that anyone that threatens to harm the President is held accountable for their actions.”

Fox News Digital reached out to the FBI and White House for comment. It was not immediately clear if Chandler has an attorney.

Champaign Crime Stoppers Seeks Public Assistance in Solving Urbana Shooting Case

The Urbana Police Department is actively seeking assistance from the public, via Crime Stoppers, to crack a case involving an armed robbery and shooting incident that transpired in December.

This unsettling event unfolded at the Circle K gas station located at 507 West University Avenue. On Christmas Eve, around 10:44 p.m., a male suspect entered the convenience store, brandishing a black and silver handgun. He demanded that the store employee open the cash register.

According to Crime Stoppers, the suspect assaulted and shot the employee multiple times during the ordeal. Before fleeing, he also stole personal belongings from the employee. The suspect made his getaway in a white pickup truck, which he had stolen earlier from the 1900 block of North Cunningham Avenue in Urbana. Although the vehicle was later found by officers, the suspect remains at large. Fortunately, the Circle K employee was treated for injuries and has since been discharged from the hospital.
